A bridge collapsed in Italy 15 months after the Genoa tragedy

A man prevented a worse development of the incident

Due to heavy rainfall in Italy, a 30-meter section of the A6 motorway bridge near the flooded coastal Italian town of Savona collapsed.

The cause is a landslide, which was activated by the torrential rains. The incident went without casualties. A man who travels on the highway and manages to stop on time responds very quickly and alerts the flow of cars to him.

The bad weather in Europe took some toll - four in France and two in Greece. On Friday, Italian authorities declared a state of emergency because of the climate. The airport in Nice was closed briefly and a planned marathon was canceled in Turin.


The collapsed bridge case is reminiscent of the deadly incident of August 2018, when a G10 motorway bridge collapsed. Then 43 people were killed.

The infrastructure in this part of Italy was built in the 1950s. Following the tragedy in Genoa, a debate has begun on how to improve it. Experts have warned periodically that the country's roads, many of which were built in the early 1960s, are outdated and unable to withstand today's traffic and traffic levels.
