The cause is a landslide, which was activated by the torrential rains. The incident went without casualties. On Friday, Italian authorities declared a state of emergency because of the climate. The airport in Nice was closed briefly and a planned marathon was canceled in Turin. The infrastructure in this part of Italy was built in the 1950s. Following the tragedy in Genoa, a debate has begun on how to improve it.
