The world po[CENSORED]tion is 7.6 billion, and is expected to grow to nearly 10 billion by the middle of this century before reaching about 11.2 billion by the end of the year. 2.City po[CENSORED]tions are more rural than urban, and about 55 per cent of the world's po[CENSORED]tion live in urban areas in 2018, compared to 30 per cent in 1950. By 2050, this is expected to be around 70 per cent. 3. The countries with urban po[CENSORED]tions are North America (82 per cent of the po[CENSORED]tion lives in urban areas), Latin America and the Caribbean (81 per cent), Europe (74 per cent) and Oceania (68 per cent). 4. Urbanization in Asia is about 50 per cent, while Africa is still predominantly rural (43 per cent). 5. Africa and Asia have nearly 90 per cent of the world's rural po[CENSORED]tion, with India having the largest number of people living in rural areas (893 million), followed by China (578 million). 6. Tokyo is the world's most populous city with a po[CENSORED]tion of 37 million, followed by Delhi with a po[CENSORED]tion of 29 million and Shanghai with 26 million. 7. The world is fast aging. People aged 60 years and over make up 12.3 per cent of the world po[CENSORED]tion, and by 2050 the proportion will rise to about 22 per cent.
