Mohamed Nasser
The Dakar Rally, perhaps the most dangerous rally in the world, does not deny this year either. Although the 2019 edition is the shortest in history, with only 10 stages in Peru, the race has already caused 87 abandonments during the first five days of the Peruvian desert, says EFE, taken over by Agerpres. The publication notes that in Saturday's break in Arequipa, the second largest city in Peru, there were only 388 participants from the 541 who took off in Lima on January 7th. The Dakar 2019 Rally will also end in the Peruvian capital on Thursday, January 17th. So, the quoted source mentions that during the race, they have abandoned 31 cars, 32 motorcycles, 9 trucks, 8 quads and 6 UTVs (all-terrain vehicles). The abandonment average is slightly above that of the previous editions, where the rally took place over 14 stages instead of 10.
