Blexfraptor Posted December 9, 2018 Posted December 9, 2018 Mediatek today announced the new Helio P70 just one day after Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 675, its new commitment to the mid-range with many features that were only present in the high range. This new chip is aimed at the upper middle range, with the cost as the main asset to fight against Qualcomm. Helio P70: the new processor for the cheap premium mid-range The Helio P70 is a processor manufactured by TSMC under a somewhat antiquated 12 nm FinFET lithography, with four Cortex-A73 cores and four Cortex-A53 cores. In addition to lithography, the same ARM Mali-G72 GPU is also maintained, increasing the frequency to 900 MHz to improve its performance. In games, the P70 consumes 35% less energy. The processor now runs at 2.1 GHz for the A73 cores, and at 2.0 GHz for the A53. In total, the performance improvement is 13% compared to the previous model. The APU to process AI tasks offers an efficiency between 10 and 30% higher compared to the P60 in that type of tasks. The mobiles that equip this chip will be able to incorporate a single camera of 32 MP, or two cameras of up to 24 and 16 MP. Also included is a motor that improves the detection of depth of the image that improves the detection of faces until reaching an accuracy of 90%. It also includes electronic stabilization that saves 23 mA per second thanks to not assigning that task to the GPU. The chip will be able to process photos in RAW and HDR, besides being able to process the photos in JPG 20% faster. The mobiles that equip it will only have Full HD + resolution at most In terms of memory, the P70 supports up to 8 GB of LPDDR4X memory or 4 GB of LPDDR3 memory. It also allows the use of eMMC 5.1 memory and UFS 2.1 storage. The Bluetooth remains at 4.2, so we will have to wait for future generations for the 5.0 that already use high-end phones this year, although it is compatible with WiFi AC (WiFi 5). The LTE is Cat.7. As for video, it can record up to 1080p at 30 FPS, and can decode HEVC. The maximum resolution of the screen can be 2400 x 1080 pixels. The chip is also compatible with Beidou, Galileo, Glonass and GPS. The chip is now available for manufacturers to begin to incorporate into their phones, and the first models that take it will start to be available next month. The mobiles that will equip it will be those that are oriented around a price of 300 or 400 dollars, especially in the Chinese market, so there will be quite a few mobiles at a good price that will take it. This processor is slightly more premium, but will not replace the P60 for a few months. It's a slight improvement like the one that Qualcomm launched with the Snapdragon 821 versus the 820.
