The change of image can occur for many reasons, but the new icons of Microsoft only want to imply one thing: the company is looking to the future. "These changes are given to support the change of labor forces in the world. Office is also becoming a collaborative platform that can be used from almost any device and we wanted to show that, "wrote John Friedman, the company's design director on the Medium portal.

The icons and tools of Microsoft did not have a redesign since 2013, but in 2018 its interface changed to be more intuitive thanks to artificial intelligence. We have seen how Office 365 works better in the cloud and has interactive aspects. For example, connect with LinkedIn to help create a resume more quickly and easily.

An icon different from what we were used to, but that we recognize

All the icons of Microsoft changed from Word to Skype, they are much simpler and at the same time colorful. However, you can still know what each of them is for without having to open the program. The icon with the fewest changes, in my view, was Skype. "Simplicity and harmony were key when redesigning them", highlights Friedman.

Basically, the change occurs in the construction of two panels. On the one hand, we have the letter of the application (W for Word, X for Excel) and, on the other, a symbolic panel. This allows having two possible icons that can be adapted to different platforms without necessarily changing them: an application for iPhone where they can use only the letter or the program on a PC where they use it completely.

The new icons will begin to appear on people's screens in the coming months, starting with the mobile and web versions of the programs, Friedman concludes.
