This week, Qualcomm has officially presented the Snapdragon 855. This previous one is the chipset that will give life to -almost- the entire high range of Android smartphones of 2019. But they have also presented the Snapdragon 8cx, an 'extreme' processor that is for laptops with Windows 10 under ARM. And although the 'extreme' is a marketing thing, and is what justifies the 'x' of its name, we are before the most powerful Snapdragon in history.

Qualcomm embraces the 7 nanometers also with this chipset, which has a CPU in configuration of eight cores with architecture Kryo 495. According to the official figures of the manufacturer, and still pending to see performance tests of final products, SoC Snapdragon 8cx promises to duplicate the performance of other competing chips with 7 W of TDP. That is, with a negligible energy consumption accompanied by LPDDR4 memory in eight channels and support for UFS 3.0 or NVMe SSD memories. At the graphics level, it has the Adreno 680 GPU, which promises a double performance compared to the previous generation, and three times more power than the one included in the Snapdragon 835.

On the other hand, Qualcomm has also highlighted a 60% higher energy efficiency in the Adreno 680 GPU compared to the one offered by the Snapdragon 850. With the improvements in efficiency for the CPU and the GPU, the new Windows 10 laptops that include This chipset should offer several days of autonomy. And in addition, with other interesting features such as 4G LTE connectivity thanks to the X24 modem integrated in the chipset, or the fast loading provided by the Quick Charge 4+ technology, the latest iteration available.

With these technical characteristics, Qualcomm has been able to go a step further and now we can count on Windows 10 Enterprise. Not only is it the most powerful Snapdragon chipset in history but, at the moment, it is also the most powerful option that can be mounted on a Windows 10 laptop in ARM configuration. But the most important thing is not only the improvements in performance, but also in efficiency. And we will see the first laptops with this hardware from next year 2019.
