Google has announced that it will take steps to prevent false technical support ads from being propagated through its platform. This type of fraudulent advertising has increased in recent months, and Mountain View wants to put a stop to prevent the attackers from reaching the victims through their advertising ecosystem.

Last Friday, the US newspaper The Wall Street Journal published a report stating that fraudsters routinely use Google's search ads to pass themselves off as authorized service companies of companies like Apple or Microsoft.

In this way, when users use the search engine to see where they can solve problems with their Apple or Microsoft products, they find advertisements published by scammers and confuse them with legitimate suppliers.

In a blog post, Google responded to The Wall Street Journal's research by explaining that one of its top priorities is to keep its advertising platform healthy, as well as to protect users from deceptive, inappropriate or harmful ads. "Only last year, we eliminated more than 3.2 billion ads that violated our advertising policies, that is, more than 100 malicious ads pro second," says the company.

In addition, the corporation also explains that it takes additional measures when it detects an increase in malicious behavior. For this reason, given that it has seen an increase in false advertisements aimed at perpetrating technical support scams, Google has decided to start restricting advertisements in this category worldwide, and in the coming months will implement a verification program to ensure that only legitimate technical support providers can use the advertising platform.

Although the Big G recognizes that this measure, by itself, will not stop all malicious users who try to abuse Google ads, at least it will make it much more difficult and will slow down its progress.
