The remains of Republican Senator John McCain, who died of brain cancer at 81 years ago ten days ago, receive the respects of thousands of Americans in the dome of the Washington Capitol this Saturday, an honor that only about thirty people have enjoyed. -among them twelve other legislators- in the history of the country. This Sunday they will be buried in a private ceremony that will take place at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, where he began his military career.

But before, Congressmen Democrats and Republicans, members of the political class, family and friends have paid tribute to the prestigious war hero at the funeral to be held in the national cathedral of the US capital, where they have delivered speeches the former presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush. The current president, Donald Trump, will be the great absentee to be vetoed by McCain himself in his last wishes. His family yesterday did the same with the ultraconservative Republican Tea Party Sarah Palin.

The current Administration has been represented in the tribute acts that have taken place this week by the vice president, Mike Pence, who intervened yesterday during the ceremony that took place at the Capitol. For his part, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis welcomed McCain's family, who was accompanying the senator's coffin on his arrival in Washington on Thursday night.

Tortured in Vietnam
The procession to the temple will make a stop at the Memorial to the Fallen in the Vietnam War, in which McCain was an aviation pilot, was shot down and suffered cruel tortures during the five and a half years in which he was a prisoner until his release in 1973. Trump, who got rid of Vietnam through postponements by enrolling in college and objecting to a defect in the heel, ridiculed the deceased senator for letting himself be captured.

The acts by the ex-captain of the Navy have had a 'presidential' tone, something exceptional for a politician who did not arrive at the White House, and they have been broadcast live on television and internet.
