A "close person" to Cruz warned on January 5 that he could be preparing a shooting in an educational center

The FBI has admitted that the proper protocols were not followed after a warning received in early January that already warned of the potential risk of Nikolas Cruz, the young man arrested for murdering 17 people on Wednesday at a high school in Parkland (Florida).

On January 5, "a person close to Nikolas Cruz" contacted the federal security agency to express his "concerns" about the young man. Thus, he reported that he was in possession of weapons, maintained an "erratic behavior", had expressed his "desire to kill people" and had posted "worrying" messages on social networks.

The message even alluded to that Cruz could carry out a shooting in an educational center, as it finally happened on Wednesday, according to a statement released by the FBI.

The protocols state that this notice should have been analyzed "as a potential threat to life" and, therefore, the Public Access Line of the agency should have notified the offices in Miami. However, "at that time no further investigation was conducted" on the case.

The director of the FBI, Christopher Wray, has promised that he will arrive "to the bottom" to clarify what happened, what also happens to review the procedures that are followed when a citizen gives the alarm. "It is up to all Americans to be vigilant and, when citizens get in touch with us, we must act appropriately and quickly," he lamented.

The head of the organization has "deeply regretted" the "additional damage" that these revelations can cause to all those people affected by the "horrible tragedy" of Parkland. In this sense, it has defended the "tireless commitment" of workers to improve their work and ensure the safety of citizens
