Pretoria - Following weeks of teaser images Land Rover has finally revealed details and images of its next-gen Discovery 5.

The Disco 5 continues with its predecessor’s three-row, seven-seat layout, with off-road capability and versatility.

Limited run

The fifth-generation model benefits from Land Rover’s strong, safe and light full-size SUV architecture, for "better comfort and adaptability than previous models", says Land Rover.

The automaker's new 4x4 will go on sale in South Africa from mid-2017.

A limited-run of 2400 ‘First Edition’ models will be available globally, with only 34 units sold in South Africa, making it instantly exclusive for those who buy one.

Family matters

The new Discovery accommodates seven adults in an SUV body measuring less than 5m. Both third-row seats incorporate ISOFIX mounting points (five in total).

All three rows are fitted with heated seats, while massage seats are available for the driver and front passenger.

The new SUV is fitted with iOS and Android connectivity combined with a 14-speaker Meridian digital surround system, with an additional subwoofer, and 3G WiFi provide the audio experience.

The Discovery is equipped with the company’s six cylinder petrol and diesel engines, all paired with a ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox.

They include:

  • 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine (190kW/600Nm)
  • 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine (250kW/450Nm)
