Suarez™ Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 Porsche just opened a new factory to produce its 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine, but Porsche models won't be the only ones that will benefit from it, Automotive News Europe reports. The first model to receive the new powerplant will be the Panamera Turbo, on sale this November, with the new V8 churning out an eye-watering 542 hp. In the Panamera Turbo, it'll be good enough for sprints from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.8 seconds, but the new V8 will also feature cylinder-deactivation technology to save a few cups of gas here and there when it's not making those sprints, plus a layout that will allow for the addition of hybrid tech down the road. The new engine will also be 30 percent more fuel efficient than the V8 in the departing first-gen Panamera Turbo. "Porsche’s new engine plant will also contribute towards synergies within the Volkswagen Group," Porsche CEO Oliver Blume said during the opening of the new factory. Starting next year, you'll also find this engine under the hood of the Bentley Mulsanne, which currently uses a 6.75-liter OHV V8. Whether the Porsche unit makes it into other upcoming Bentley models -- including the EXP 10 Speed 6, which may be greenlit in the near future -- remains to be seen. The Bentley Bentayga, offered with a 6.0-liter W12 at launch, will gain a V8 from the Continental GT, though the new Porsche unit may appear later, coupled with a hybrid powertrain that has been tapped for the new SUV. Audi's new flagship will also trade the current twin-turbo V8 for the new Porsche unit and will also offer cutting-edge autonomous driving tech: Level 3 eyes-off-the-road capability. The all-new A8 is expected to debut as early as at the Geneva motor show in March 2017, though Audi has not confirmed the timing just yet.
