Meta's new Threads app is finally available on iOS and Android, and the platform has received plenty of traction at launch. It has not even been 12 hours since the release, and the app has successfully crossed the 10 million download mark. Threads is Meta's answer to Twitter and the changes it is placing forth lately. It behaves a lot like Twitter as well when it comes to replies, sharing media, and much more. If you already have an Instagram account, the entire process of jumping to Threads will be a lot simpler. Meta launches Threads app to take on Twitter, and it has gained a lot of attention in a matter of hours As mentioned earlier, Meta's Threads is a microblogging platform similar to Twitter, and it will take time for users to get accustomed to the new ways. However, it is not yet known how the market will respond to it, but initial views have been positive so far. The platform is not only available on iOS and Android, but you can use it on your desktop as well. In terms of specifics, the Threads app supports text-based posts that can go up to 500 characters. You also have the availability to share photos, gifs, as well as short 5-minute videos. The media aspect of the app is different than Instagram but very similar to Twitter. You can not access additional video content in the form of Reels, so you will have to stick to Instagram for that. It features a minimalistic interface with a main feed page that contains recommendations as well as threads from people you have followed. Currently, the Threads app does not give you the option to choose between the two, but it could be added later on. The clean interface allows you to focus on the text and the content with little to no distractions. The app also brings various privacy and security controls from the Instagram app such as blocking words and limiting people to reply to your thread. You can make your account private or public as well. If you are on Instagram, you can easily sign up for Threads and follow the same people. As mentioned earlier, Threads is Meta's answer to Twitter and the number of issues it is running into these days. The app has crossed more than 10 million downloads in just 7 hours of launch. This shows people are looking for a dedicated platform to replace Twitter in its own game. However, the market feedback remains to be seen. We are gradually seeing celebrities and brands joining the platform, and the outcome could be a thread threat to Twitter. If you are up for it, Meta's Threads app can be downloaded from the App Store and Play Store. You can also use the app on your desktop so you always stay in touch with the latest news. We will share more details on Threads and how to use it in the future, so be sure to stick around. link: https://wccftech.com/twitter-rival-threads-is-available-on-ios-and-android-crosses-a-whopping-10-million-downloads-in-just-7-hours/

Immortals of Aveum's newest trailer gives players a brilliant explanation of the intricate colored magic system. This in-game mechanics trailer follows on from the campaign trailer that was released earlier this year after it was announced that EA was delaying the FPS title for a short while. Immortals of Aveum follows the character Jak as he joins an elite order of battlemages set on saving the world before it's engulfed in war. Players must uncover the mysteries of Aveum's troubled past and master three forces of magic to unleash spells that "defies FPS conventions". Sponsored Links The Secret to Mastering Any Language Babbel In the newest trailer, we can see the colored magic system in the world of Aveum, where "magic powers everything. From Industry and everyday life to the military might of its five kingdoms". In this trailer, we find out that the playable character Jak is a Triarch, a very rare type of spellcaster who is able to wield all three types of magic. With the help of your weapon, the sigil, you'll be able to focus your magic and fire it with accuracy making "it more effective and deadly in combat". Red sigils are meant for close-quarters combat. These fury spells are more powerful and "heavy" as they drastically drain your mana bar; these should be saved for big crowds or boss fights. You'll also need to find and crush mana crystals to replenish your mana before the next skirmish. Blue sigils focus your magic into powerful bolts for "long-range engagements". You can also use this for augment spells, magic that lets you move objects or access hidden locations. These will come in handy when you're faced with the many puzzles that are scattered around the world of Aveum. Finally, Green sigils "cast rapid-fire homing projectiles", meaning that players can fire at enemies while on the go. While all colors of spells work against enemies, attacks are more effective when you line up the color of the enemy to the color of the magic you're using. You'll also have the benefit of control spells that act like stuns on the battlefield. "Jak can pull enemies towards him, slow enemies down, or stun enemies". However, the most powerful attack in Immortals of Aveum is called Immolate. This ultimate is powered up over time and is released in a "destructive beam of red, blue, and green magic to disintegrate anything in your way". Immortals of Aveum doesn't just stop at the spellcasting. There's also boundless loot to collect, skill trees to upgrade, weapons to customize, and armor to pick. You'll be able to play Immortals of Aveum on August 22, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. link: https://www.techradar.com/gaming/consoles-pc/immortals-of-aveums-newest-trailer-shows-off-coloured-magic-system

One measure could be continuing the purchase tax break for EVs and plug-in hybrids that cost less than $42,400 for an additional four years. China%20electric%20cars%20BB.jpg China is poised to extend incentives for EV purchases as part of broader efforts to shake off a sluggish post-pandemic period. The foundation for China’s economic recovery is not yet solid, the nation’s state radio reported late Friday, citing a State Council meeting chaired by Premier Li Qiang. China will therefore extend and optimize new-energy vehicle purchase tax exemptions, the report said, without giving more detail. People familiar with the matter said earlier on Friday an extension was being considered for some low- or zero-emission cars for another four years. One of those measures may be extending the purchase tax break for EVs and plug-in hybrids that cost less than 300,000 yuan ($42,400), one of the people said, asking not to be identified because the details are private. Vehicle that cost more than that amount are broadly classed as luxury vehicles in China, so a move that makes it easier for people to buy more affordable EVs would boost the nation’s EV adoption rate and further its goal of reaching net zero emissions by 2060. China has been promoting its EV industry for more than a decade with generous incentives to consumers and subsidies to automakers. Buyers received discounts of as much as 60,000 yuan at one point for purchasing EVs, but those ended in 2022. While new cars generally are subject to a 10 percent purchase levy, this hasn’t applied to new-energy vehicles since 2014 and was recently extended through the end of 2023. https://europe.autonews.com/automakers/china-could-extend-ev-tax-break-4-more-years

Kazuyoshi Miura, the world's oldest professional footballer at 56, has extended his stay with Portuguese second-tier side Oliveirense. The ex-Japan striker joined Oliveirense on loan in January from Yokohama and will continue with them on that basis for an undisclosed duration. Miura has played just 28 minutes of football this year, spread over three substitute appearances. Yokohama and Oliveirense have the same Japanese owners. Miura was named man of the match on the final day of the Portuguese season after a 26-minute cameo in a 4-3 win over Leixoes. The opposition manager said the decision was "offensive" and turned it into a "circus". Miura, who started his career with Brazilian side Santos in 1986, has been at Yokohama FC since 2005 - although he had a loan spell in 2022 at fourth-tier Suzuka Point Getters, who are managed by his older brother Yasutoshi, where he scored twice in 18 games. He has also played club football in Italy, Croatia and Australia. The Japanese football legend scored 55 goals in 89 games in an international career which ended 23 years ago. He has previously talked of playing until he is 60. link: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/66171076

Oh, I don’t have a microwave,” that person who doesn’t have a microwave will tell you, judgment dusting their words like icing sugar atop a microwave mug cake. Inevitably, this will be followed by a light humblebrag like: “Call me old-fashioned, but I’ve just never seen the need.” They bake their cakes in the oven, reheat their leftovers on the hob, and they never have ready meals, which is all they really believe a microwave is good for. No matter that last week’s cooking trends report from Waitrose (no less) has revealed that microwave sales are up 13% at John Lewis compared to last year, and that it is this year’s most po[CENSORED]r kitchen gadget among those surveyed; for that person, not owning a microwave is as fundamental to their personal brand as drinking natural wine and riding a fixie. As hot takes on household appliances go, this one intrigues me most. After all, no one gets het up over kettles. I don’t own a toaster for the same reason one might not own a microwave – my kitchen’s too small – but I don’t make a point of it, I just burn my bread under the grill. Sure, spiralisers and juicers were a bit divisive back in their day, but those furores were like the fads themselves, lighthearted and fleeting – as, I bet, will be the current must-have gadget, the air fryer. Nearly six decades since microwaves appeared on the market, however, conversations about them still assume a moral dimension – particularly among foodies who find beeps, buttons and a setting called “chaos defrost” anathema to what “good” food should be. On the one hand, I can see how they got there, as for many years microwaves did mean “bad” cooking. Po[CENSORED]rised in the late 1970s, the gadget spawned a slew of microwave cookbooks, which advocated zapping everything from french toast to roast beef. My dad microwaved scrambled eggs throughout his single parenting years, and though my brother and I liked them at the time, I can still recall their … solid texture. Then came the 80s, and its brightly packaged, highly processed ready meals, and the microwave was tarnished by association when those foods started – rightly – falling from grace. But to associate microwaves only with ready meals reveals a mindset that is stuck in the past – and real foodies know that using them makes eating healthier and more convenient, not lazier. Take lasagne, for example. Call me fussy, but I refuse to condone the belief that melted-then-solidified mozzarella and bechamel sauce is “better” fridge-cold. A microwave is the best (because quickest, tastiest and most energy-efficient) way to reheat it so it’s oozing and bubbling again. Reheating food – particularly curries, stews and pies – brings out flavours that have had time to develop overnight, an effect the Waitrose cooking report informs me is known as “kokumi” or “rich taste”. Reheating cooked pasta lowers its GI, transforming it into a slower-releasing carbohydrate. And a microwave’s ability to cook greens while preserving the nutrients they contain makes it a gadget for life, not just for leftovers. As with every story, this one’s more complicated than it seems, not least by time and trends in food and society. When it comes to ultra-processed food, it is clear the microwave is not the organ grinder but the monkey – and the issues go far beyond “microwave meals”. As for my dad’s eggs – well, while they’re no threat to Delia Smith’s, they do point to the microwave’s power to help people muddle through when they’re struggling. I think of a microwave and I think of my late grandpa, who at 100 years old was still able to live alone thanks to that and Wiltshire Farm Foods ready meals delivery service. I think of my grandma, who batch cooked for my mum so she could maintain her career and still feed us kids well in the evenings. I think of everyone tight on money and time, trying to minimise waste and maximise energy efficiency. On a lighter note, I think of myself and my preference for leftover hot food to be hot when I eat it the next day. So I’m delighted with Waitrose’s report, which as well as giving me a new word, is helping to rehabilitate my much-loved, much-maligned gadget. I’m Clare, I drink just wine, ride a bike with five gears – and I’m that person who has a microwave. link: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/jul/11/food-microwaves-britain-cookery-gadget-cakes-eggs

This grape distillate has been produced in Peru since the time of the viceroyalty, it has a national day and is the basis for one of the most recognized cocktails worldwide, the pisco sour. If there is a spirit drink that is in the heart of every Peruvian, this is undoubtedly the pisco. Admired and awarded around the world for its exquisite flavor and aroma, pisco contains a lot of history and tradition; the aroma of the pisco is the perfume of Peru and its flavor, the Peruvian pride in each sip. Considered the flagship drink of Peru, it is usually present at every celebration, social gathering or accompanying a dish on the table. Such is its ties to local society that it even has its own annual celebration: every fourth Sunday in July the country celebrates National Pisco Day. Even on this day thousands of liters of the drink flow from the fountain in the Plaza de Armas in Lima for the enjoyment of all those present. 1. Recognized as Cultural Patrimony of the Nation The origin of this emblematic drink is found in the province with which it shares its name —Pisco, city of Ica, in southern Peru— where the eight types of pisco grapes are harvested (Quebranta, Negra Criolla, Mollar, Italia, Muscatel, Albilla, Torontel and Uvina), distinguished by their unmistakable fragrances. The very term pisco dates back to pre-Inca times, when a caste of potters called piskos existed in the territory of the current Ica region, which was dedicated to the manufacture of conical-shaped vessels used to store and transport liquids. During the viceroyalty, these utensils were used to preserve the grape distillate. In 1988, pisco was recognized as Cultural Heritage of the Nation after carrying out a study on the Peruvian roots of this distillate that date back to the 16th century. 2. It is only produced in Peru In the process of elaboration of the pisco, no other ingredient is involved in addition to the fresh juice, which allows the purity of the drink to be preserved at its highest degree. Although its consumption dates back to when the Spanish brought the vine, in recent years its Peruvian origin has been claimed, with the designation of origin, in order to standardize its production. A group of engineers, agronomists and geologists carried out an investigation in which they demonstrated that pisco can only be produced in Peru; since it has rocks, sediments, relief and perfect soil for the birth of this distillate. Currently, the pisco industry has more than 800 producers; who, for the most part, maintain until today the ancestral methods for the elaboration process in various geographical areas of the country, such as Ica, Arequipa, Lima, Moquegua and Tacna. 3. There are three types of pisco Pisco grapes are classified into two large groups, the non-aromatic ones —quebranta, mollar, negra criolla and uvina—, and the aromatic ones —italia, muscatel, torontel and albilla—. With them you can produce three types of pisco: Pure pisco, obtained exclusively from a single variety of pisco grape. Mosto verde pisco is a distillation of musts whose fermentation has been interrupted; the tradition is carried out 3 or 4 days after the start of fermentation and at a temperature between 5° and 6° baumé. Pisco acholado, obtained from the mixture of two or more varieties of pisco grapes and can be made by pressing the grapes together, joining fermented musts before distillation, or doing controlled tests of pure piscos until reaching the ideal "cut". The unique flavor of Pisco Sour Its mixture of intense flavors, its showy appearance and its strong aroma have made this delicious cocktail a tourist symbol of Peru and a product that can be exported to the world. This highly fresh cocktail was created in Lima in the 1920s by Víctor Morris, owner of the 'Morris' bar, who first prepared this drink in the absence of a bourbon to make a whiskey sour.
