Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan. — Instagram/@imrankhan LAHORE: Shortly after a court in Islamabad found him guilty of corruption in the Toshakhana case Saturday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan was arrested. Additional district and sessions Judge (ADSJ) Humayun Dilawar ordered the police to arrest Khan — who wasn't present at the hearing as he was at his Zaman Park residence in Lahore. The Punjab Police entered the Lahore residence of Khan, who was removed as the prime minister via a no-confidence motion last year in April, through the back door. When they approached Khan, he was wearing a blue tracksuit and was eating lunch. Khan told the police that he needs to eat, but the law enforcers insisted that they had to arrest him on court orders and that he could eat later on. The police then took the PTI chairman into their custody and stopped his guards within the home's premises. His arrest triggered protests in several cities of the nation, with the party vowing to challenge the lower court's decision in the superior courts. The former prime minister was sent to jail for three years Saturday after a court in the capital found him guilty of graft in the Toshakhana case, a move likely to bar him from standing in elections due later this year. Anyone convicted of a criminal offence is disqualified from contesting elections in Pakistan, and parliament is likely to be dissolved in the next two weeks before it completes its term, with a national vote to be held by later this year or early next year. "His dishonesty has been established beyond doubt," Judge Dilawar wrote in the ruling seen for a case centred on gifts he received and did not properly declare while he was premier. The judge also fined him Rs100,000 (around $350). Link : https://www.thenews.com.pk/latest/1097740-toshakhana-case-what-was-pti-chief-doing-when-police-came-to-arrest-him

From spiders the size of dinner plates, to others with inch-long fangs, these mythically-large arachnids roam the earth. Throughout history, tales of giant spiders have gripped the human imagination — from Arachne, the half-woman, half-spider figure in Greek mythology to J'ba Fofi, the rumored monkey-size spider of the Congolese rainforest and Shelob, the monstrous arachnid who keeps Frodo the hobbit on his toes in "The Lord of the Rings." But are there real-life spiders that inspired these stories and myths? What, in fact, is the biggest spider in the world? While none are quite as enormous as those fictional beasts, the real world contains giant spiders galore. Just take giant huntsman spiders (Heteropoda maxima), which are the world's largest spiders by leg span. Measuring 11.8 inches (30 centimeters) across, these arachnids can reach the size of a dinner plate. Sponsored Links Fishermen Discover a Giant Shark: You Won't Believe What They Found Inside! Daily-Tricks.com But another spider species is so large it's closer to the size of a puppy. "If we're talking about the largest species of tarantula, that would be a species called Theraphosa blondi," said Ray Hale, a wildlife lecturer, arachnologist and vice chairman of the British Tarantula Society. "That is, the goliath bird-eating spider." Related: What is the deadliest spider in the world? How big is it? Most spiders can be split into two broad groups, Hale told Live Science: araneomorphs (also known as 'true spiders', a group that includes 90% of spiders on earth) and mygalomorphs. Tarantulas are mygalomorphs, a group that's considered more primitive than true spiders. This means that they have evolved less since ancient times, and have therefore maintained certain features that true spiders have since shed — such as downward-pointed fangs, and their large size. This is why tarantulas feature the biggest spiders on Earth, including the West African Hercules baboon spiders (Hysterocrates hercules) — hefty creatures whose legs stretch to about 8 inches (20 cm); and face-size tarantulas Poecilotheria rajaei, which can also reach 8 inches in diameter and are native to Sri Lanka. Even larger are Brazilian salmon pink bird-eaters (Lasiodora parahybana), whose legs can reach 11 inches (28 cm). But none of these beat goliath bird-eaters, which live in dense rainforest in northern South America. While these spiders have slightly shorter legs than their huntsman cousins, stretching to 11 inches — their weight gives them the edge. At 6.17 ounces (175 grams), and with bodies measuring 5.1 inches (13 cm), they are double the weight of their salmon pink relatives, making them the largest spiders in the world by mass. In 2014, an entomologist roaming the jungles of Guyana came across a goliath birdeater that was so big, it rustled the undergrowth and was equivalent in size to a young puppy — though a bit less cuddly, perhaps. What does it eat? The goliath bird-eater's name is a bit of a misnomer. "Yes, it is a big spider. Does it eat birds? Not really," said Hale. There are different theories on where the name came from. It was possibly inspired by a 19th-century engraving that showed these arachnids feasting on birds, while Hale said the name came from the accounts of 16th-century explorers to South America who put two-and-two together when they discovered some chicks that had fallen into the silk-lined burrows of this ground-nesting tarantula. But Hale noted that while the nocturnal hunters might opportunistically pounce on vulnerable birds — and the occasional mouse — the bulk of their diet is made up of crickets, lizards and frogs. The spiders are near-blind, so they use extremely delicate bristles on their legs and abdomen to sense slight vibrations that guide them to their food. Their prey meet the sharp end of the tarantulas' 1 inch-long (2.5 cm) fangs, which inject a lethal amount of neurotoxic venom, followed by digestive juices that liquefy prey's tissues so that the spiders can slurp it up. Goliath bird-eaters have their own predators, including snakes, wasps and humans — who report that the spiders have a delicious prawn-like flavor when roasted in banana leaves. link: https://www.livescience.com/animals/spiders/what-is-the-biggest-spider-in-the-world

Faisal Shafi during a race. — Instagram/faisalshafitness KARACHI: Having already participated in nine maratons, Pakistani ace marathoner Faisal Shafi is now determined to bag the coveted Abbott World Marathon Majors (WMM) six-star medal. The Karachi-born athlete first embarked on his running journey after a weight-loss spree in 2018 to train for obstacle racing. He is now at the forefront of the running community in Pakistan and is an inspiration for marathoners in his country. Shafi has set his sights on claiming his fourth Abbott star, after successfully completing Berlin, London and New York City, as he gears up for the world championships in Chicago this year. The 41-year-old will be Pakistan's sole representative in Chicago and will take part in the Masters 40-44 category. The Masters' category is treated with a lot of respect since it is not easy to take part in marathons after crossing the age of 40. "I was on a weight losing spree in 2017 which is why I joined the gym. After strength training, I was fascinated by obstacle course racing and enduring pain over a long distance," Shafi told geosuper.tv. "Looking at my interest in long-distance running, people advised me about participating in marathons. At first, I thought it would be difficult to run 42km but through proper training, I was able to achieve that," he added. Shafi's first marathon was in Dubai in 2019, where he clocked 3 hours and 45 minutes. He has participated in nine marathons over the course of his career so far. He trains early morning six days a week since it's difficult to run during the day due to the weather conditions in Karachi. 80% of the training includes easy runs but almost every weekend he also takes part in a long run of 30-32km. Lost dogs, cats, snakes, tortoises… Owners share their pet’s escape stories – and how they found them again Erwin Schrödinger never actually owned a cat, but he might have known a thing or two about how it feels to have one go missing: a lost cat is simultaneously dead and alive, stuck in limbo. Thousands of pet owners across the UK have experienced this thought experiment. According to research from Admiral Pet Insurance, more than 250,000 cats are currently unaccounted for and a moggy goes missing every three seconds. Add to that the packs of dogs, flocks of birds and colonies of rabbits that go missing each year and there are likely to be more than a million AWOL animals across Britain at any one time. Indiana braces for storms and tornadoes as severe weather advisory issued. Representational iamge from Pixabay A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for parts of Indiana as the region braces for a potential round of strong storms later today. The watch comes as experts closely monitor a weather pattern that could bring heavy rain, gusty winds, and even a possibility of tornadoes. Earlier this afternoon, the temperature in Indianapolis soared to 90°F, marking the 9th occurrence of such heat this year. The combination of this heat, slightly humid air, and southeast winds has created conditions conducive to storm formation. While no storms have developed yet, attention is focused on East Central Illinois, where storm initiation is expected before these weather systems move into western portions of Indiana. Meteorologists from the Storm Prediction Center have given a 40% chance for a severe thunderstorm watch to be issued, reflecting the potential for strong weather activity. The main concern stems from a weather phenomenon known as a Mesoscale Convective Vortex (MCV) centred over Illinois. This slow-moving system is forecasted to gradually progress eastward, possibly triggering storms in its path. Areas to the south and west of Indianapolis have experienced significant atmospheric destabilisation, which increases the likelihood of storm development. The timing for these storms is estimated to be until 6:00 p.m. Eastern time, with the severe weather threat lingering in Central Indiana until 10:00 p.m. Given the conditions, experts caution about the possibility of tornadoes if supercell storms form. This risk arises from a moderate level of upper-level wind shear and a moist atmosphere that could lead to rotation within these storms. Furthermore, heavy rainfall poses a concern, especially northwest of Indianapolis due to the system's sluggish movement. Although the storm system is expected to weaken as it shifts eastward, scattered activity could persist after midnight. Temperatures are predicted to fall into the mid-to-upper 60s overnight. Sunday is anticipated to bring yet another threat of severe weather following another muggy day. Residents and authorities are advised to stay updated with local forecasts and to take necessary precautions as the potential for storms remains a significant concern. Muslims are followers of Islam, which is a monotheistic Abrahamic religion founded in the 7th century CE by the Prophet Muhammad in what is now Saudi Arabia. Muslims believe in one God, known as Allah, and follow the teachings of the Quran, which they believe to be the word of God as revealed to Muhammad. Islam is one of the world's major religions, and its followers, Muslims, make up a significant portion of the global po[CENSORED]tion. Being a "perfect" Muslim is a subjective concept, as perfection is often seen as an ideal that may be difficult to attain. However, Muslims strive to follow the principles and guidance laid out in the Quran and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad to live a righteous and fulfilling life. Here are some key aspects that are considered important for Muslims in their pursuit of being devout and practicing believers: Faith and Belief (Iman): A perfect Muslim believes in the oneness of God (Tawhid) and the finality of the prophethood of Muhammad (Risalah). They have faith in all the pillars of Islam and believe in the six articles of faith, which include belief in God, angels, holy books, prophets, the Day of Judgment, and predestination. Observing the Five Pillars of Islam: a. Shahada: Professing the declaration of faith, bearing witness that there is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is His messenger. b. Salat: Performing the five daily prayers facing the Kaaba in Mecca. c. Zakat: Giving alms and charitable donations to those in need, often calculated as a percentage of a Muslim's wealth. d. Sawm: Observing fasting during the holy month of Ramadan from sunrise to sunset. e. Hajj: Making the pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca at least once in a lifetime if physically and financially able. Moral and Ethical Conduct: A perfect Muslim strives to exhibit good character and moral behavior in all aspects of life. They practice honesty, compassion, forgiveness, and avoid harmful actions. Seeking Knowledge: Muslims are encouraged to seek knowledge throughout their lives. Learning about their faith, understanding the Quran, and gaining knowledge in various fields is highly valued. Humility and Gratitude: Being humble before God and showing gratitude for blessings is an essential aspect of Islamic practice. Acts of Worship and Devotion: Muslims engage in voluntary acts of worship and devotion, such as additional prayers (Nafil), reading the Quran regularly, and engaging in Dhikr (remembrance of God). Social Responsibility: Muslims are encouraged to be actively involved in their communities and to help those in need, regardless of their faith. Sincerity (Ikhlas): Performing actions with sincerity and solely for the sake of pleasing God is an essential aspect of being a good Muslim. It's important to note that Islam recognizes the human condition, and Muslims understand that perfection is not always achievable. The idea of being a "perfect" Muslim is a continuous journey of self-improvement and seeking closeness to God through faith, worship, and good deeds. Different individuals may have different strengths and weaknesses, but the overarching goal is to lead a life that aligns with the principles of Islam and brings one closer to God.
