Thousands of women from Yangon to New Delhi marched on Monday in defiance of power-grabbing generals and patriarchal governments, as rallies across Asia kicked off a global day of action for International Women's Day. In Pakistan, rallies were held in all major cities where women and allies marched, danced and chanted slogans to demand equal rights for women and an end to gender-based violence. Crowds of women in brightly coloured saris thronged the outskirts of India's capital, where they joined forces with a months-long protest against agricultural reforms that has rocked the country. Many were not in masks and did not observe social distancing, despite India having one of Asia's highest coronavirus infection and death rates. Car dealer Brad Sowers is spending money to prepare for the coming wave of new electric models from General Motors Co. He is installing charging stations, upgrading service bays and retraining staff at his St. Louis-area dealership to handle the technology-packed vehicles. But when he considers how many plug-in Chevy Bolts he sold last year—nine, out of the nearly 4,000 Chevrolets sold at his Missouri dealerships—it gives him pause. “The consumer in the middle of America just isn’t there yet,” when it comes to switching to electric vehicles, he said, citing the long distances many of his customers drive daily and a lack of charging infrastructure outside major cities. As auto executives and investors buzz about the coming age of the electric car, many dealers say they are struggling to square that enthusiasm with the reality today on new-car sales lots, where last year battery-powered vehicles made up fewer than 2% of U.S. auto sales. Most consumers who come to showrooms aren’t shopping for electric cars, and with gasoline prices relatively low, even hybrid models can be a tough sell, dealers and industry analysts say. Auto makers are moving aggressively to expand their electric-vehicle offerings with dozens of new models set to arrive in coming years. Some like GM are setting firm targets for when they plan to phase out gas-powered cars entirely. Many dealers say that puts them in a delicate spot: They are trying to adjust, but unsure whether and how fast customers will actually make the switch. About 180 GM dealers, or roughly 20%, have decided to give up their Cadillac franchises rather than invest in costly upgrades that GM has required to sell electric cars. A GM spokesman said the company expected some Cadillac dealers to opt out and is pleased that the roughly 700 remaining share its all-electric goals. Past attempts by car companies to expand electric-car sales have largely flopped, saddling retailers with unsold inventory. Even now, some dealers say they are reluctant to stock electric models en masse. “The biggest challenge is that dealers have a bit of ‘boy who cried wolf’ syndrome,” said Massachusetts dealer Chris Lemley. Car companies have promised for years to make electric cars mainstream, but produced only low-volume, niche models, he said. He recalls Ford Motor Co. rolling out an all-electric Focus that sold poorly and stacked up on his lot. It was discontinued in 2018. “So when we are told, ‘This time, we really mean it,’ it’s easy to be skeptical,” Mr. Lemley added. Some shoppers also are unsure. Joe Daniel, an energy analyst at the Union of Concerned Scientists, said he was determined to buy an electric car, but eventually abandoned his effort after realizing there weren’t enough public charging stations near his apartment in Washington, D.C. Without a place to plug in, the purchase made little sense, he added. “For EVs to take off, they need to be as convenient as gas-powered cars—that’s the whole point of this big purchase,” Mr. Daniel To solve problems like this, President Biden has said he wants to spend billions of dollars to upgrade the country’s charging infrastructure as part of a push to incentivize battery-powered cars. Ford, GM and other major car companies say they are confident in their new electric-vehicle offerings and are training dealers to sell and service them. Still, some auto retailers say they worry about the long-term implications for their business. Tesla Inc.’s influence on the electric-car market has created a new standard for car shoppers, offering an online transaction and a simplified lineup with no price negotiation. Other electric-vehicle startups, like Rivian Automotive and Lucid Motors, say they’ll likewise sell directly to consumers and bypass traditional dealerships. Some car companies are now following their lead, initially stocking dealership lots with few if any electric models and allowing customers to order more directly from the manufacturer. Volvo Cars CEO Håkan Samuelsson recently said that all future battery-electric vehicles would be sold exclusively online and the price would be set centrally, eliminating the ability to haggle. Dealerships will help deliver vehicles to customers and perform other services, like maintenance, he said. “The marketplace is moving from the physical dealership to online. That’s what will happen in the next 10 years,” Mr. Samuelsson said. Howard Drake, a GM dealer in Los Angeles, said he is considering converting two of his showrooms. Rather than separate models by brand, he is considering two stores—one for electrics, the other for gas-powered vehicles. These are really different customers,” Mr. Drake said. “A Hummer EV buyer probably doesn’t want to be sitting next to some guy buying a gas-guzzling pickup truck.” Mr. Sowers said he sees encouraging signs. GM recently dropped the sticker price of the all-electric Bolt and helped boost sales for the model in February. But he said his electric-vehicle inventory will remain light because he is uncertain about longer-term demand. “It’s still very early days,” Mr. Sowers said. As soon as dealers figure out how to sell EVs, another business problem awaits in the service said. Electric vehicles typically have fewer mechanical parts and don’t require the same type of service that gas engine cars need, such as oil changes. That work right now is a big profit center for dealerships. “There’s going to be an impact, but it might take three or four years to see the full effect,” Mr. Lemley said. “That’s really my biggest question mark heading into all of this.”

Women should use particularly those intimate washes which enhance their skin health and serve as a helpful add-on therapy for those with vaginal infections, R P Prashar from Delhi-based Ayurveda Hospital said in a statement. Urging women not to ignore their intimate hygiene, health experts have warned against the use of chemical-ridden vaginal washes that increase the risk of infection. Speaking on the eve of International Women’s Day, the experts on Sunday advised usage of hygiene products that have natural ingredients enriched with bacterial and fungus prevention properties. Women should use particularly those intimate washes which enhance their skin health and serve as a helpful add-on therapy for those with vaginal infections, R P Prashar from Delhi-based Ayurveda Hospital said in a statement. Sanchit Sharma, executive director, AIMIL Pharma engaged in manufacturing ayurvedic drugs, said keeping in mind the health hygiene need of women, researchers have developed Ayouthveda Vagitone Intimate Hygiene Wash’ that is rich in green tea, haridra’, amla’ among others, known for their time-tested ayurvedic and anti-bacterial properties. Mostly, it has been found that chemical-based products have adverse health impact on women. Hence when it comes to internal organs of women, it is important to be careful, he said. He asserted that adding chemicals like silicon and artificial colours in such products should be strictly prohibited. Prashar said there is widespread ignorance among women when it comes to their intimate hygiene. In India, at least eight out of ten women are vulnerable to vaginal infection, while at least 80 per cent ignore the importance of internal hygiene due to which they face various bacterial and fungus infection issues, according to data. Similarly, women in the age group of 18 to 45 years do not share such problems either due to their busy schedule or shyness, as per several studies. The Union government has also been stressing on safe hygiene practices. The Ministry of Medium, Small and Micro Enterprise’s (MSME) Flavour and Fragnance Development Corporation (FFDC) has prepared the natural face serum and fragrance, and recently transferred the technology to AIMIL.

UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan has urged the international community to work together to prevent criminals from making and distributing false Covid-19 vaccines and other fake medical products. “In the context of Covid-19, there is a need for effective action against falsified and fake medical products — such as Covid-19 vaccines — and to strengthen international cooperation in this regard,” said Munir Akram, Pakistan’s ambassador to the United Nations. In his statement at a high-level segment of the 14th Crime Congress in New York on Saturday evening, the Pakistani envoy warned that the Covid-19 pandemic had exposed various vulnerabilities which could be exploited by the criminals. “Like all other aspects of our daily lives, the impact of Covid-19 on transnational organised crime has been significant,” he said. “There is a compelling case for enhanced international action to combat and dismantle networks and platforms that perpetrate these crimes and undermine progress towards Agenda 2030.” Agenda 2030 represents 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the UN General Assembly in July 2017 as a “blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all”. “There can be no sustainable development without justice, the rule of law and prevention and control of crime,” Ambassador Akram warned. He said that the agenda of the 14th Crime Congress — “Advancing crime prevention, criminal justice and the rule of law: towards the achievement of Agenda 2030” — was both timely and appropriate and central to the achievement of all SDGs. Identifying the key issues that the Congress needed to focus on, the Pakistani envoy said their first priority should be to stop “the bleeding of the resources of developing countries through illicit financial flows”. “It is nothing short of criminal to allow such flows to continue during this crisis when developing countries are already struggling to overcome the challenges posed by shrinking fiscal space to fight the pandemic and achieve the SDGs,” he added. Ambassador Akram urged the Congress to consider the important recommendations contained in the latest report of International Financial Accountability, Transparency and Integrity (FACTI) Panel for follow-up action. The panel’s estimates show that $7 trillion is held in secrecy jurisdictions and haven countries, which is almost 10 per cent of the global GDP. Illicit financial flows cost $500-$650 billion a year to developing countries. Criminal syndicates launder about $1.6 trillion every year. And about $1.5-$2tr every year passes hands as bribes. To overcome this massive corruption, the panel proposed structural reforms in the global financial system. Ambassador Akram also underlined the need to combat environmental crimes and ever-growing illegal trade in wildlife, “which could lead to other zoonotic diseases (like Covid-19)”, if not controlled. The Pakistani envoy demanded changes in labour and migration laws to discourage human trafficking. “Opening up additional avenues for legal migration is one way to reduce the demand for smuggling services and to meet migration-related SDGs,” he added.

While a balanced diet is advisable to provide the body all the essential nutrients, customized diets and lifestyle changes could be key to optimising mental health. While a balanced diet is advisable to provide the body all the essential nutrients, customized diets and lifestyle changes could be key to optimising mental health, according to new research including faculty at Binghamton University, State University of New York."There is increasing evidence that diet plays a major role in improving mental health, but everyone is talking about a healthy diet," said Begdache, an assistant professor of health and wellness studies at Binghamton University and co-author of a new paper in Nutrients. "We need to consider a spectrum of dietary and lifestyle changes based on different age groups and gender," she said. "There is not one healthy diet that will work for everyone. There is not one fix." Begdache, who is also a registered dietitian, believes that mental health therapies need to consider the differences in the degree of brain maturity between young (18-29 years old) and mature (30 years or older) adults, as well as the brain morphology among men and women.

ISLAMABAD: Japan blanked Pakistan 4-0 to win the Davis Cup World Group I tie in an emphatic style here at the Pakistan Sports Complex grasscourts Saturday. Following the opening day’s singles losses, Pakistan had set their eyes on the doubles. Japan fielded young pair of Shintaro Mochizuki and Sho Shimabukuro who ended Pakistan’s hopes with a three-set win against Aisamul Haq and Aqeel Khan 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 to give their team an unassailable 3-0 lead and a place in World Group qualifiers. It was then left to Yuta Shimizu who gave no clue to Muzammil Murtaza during his easy 6-1, 6-1 win to make it 4-0 for the tourists. Pakistan never have beaten Japan during their last three ties and that trend continued with yet another Japan win. There were high expectations from Aqeel and Aisam in the doubles and they started that way by winning the first set, courtesy to two breaks against one conceded by Aisam at the outset. Mochizuki and Shimabukuro bounced back well, making it all the more difficult for Aqeel and Aisam to play fluently. Both players struggled to match the Japanese pair who happened to be too strong at the net. They broke Aqeel’s serve once in the second set with some accurate passing shots backed by top of the net volleys that unsettled Pakistan duo. Following 1-1 set all in the doubles match, the Japanese pair played exceptional tennis in the third, breaking Aisam first service and then his second and held on to their own to win the tie for their team. Japan earlier had won both the singles through Yosuki Watanuki and Kaichi Uchida to give their team a strong base going into the second day. The 2019 junior Wimbledon champion Mochizuki was seen playing some of exiting grasscourts tennis in the doubles. His quick reflexes backed by his strong forehand down the line shots unsettled Aisam and Aqeel combination that never worked against young pair. “It was all too easy for me, I never have comprehended that playing against Aisam and Aqeel would be such easy. Possibly the two were not at their best. Aisam was famous for his doubles prowess and I thought it would be difficult for us to beat them. At the end we succeeded in winning the tie for Japan,” Mochizuki said while talking to ‘The News’. Ranked around 600 in the world the former Wimbledon junior champion said he was feeling at ease in playing at the grass. “Since I won junior Wimbledon and that too on the grass, I had no problems in making the best use of my abilities. I always played attacking tennis on any surface and I am happy that shots landed perfectly today,” he added. The jubilant Japan team members were seen jumping with joy as Mochizuki and Shimabukuro won the doubles following the first set hiccup. Japan team played their cards well and managed a firm grip throughout the two days of proceedings to unsettle Pakistan in all the departments. Japan’s non-playing captain Iwabuchi Satoshi attributed the overwhelming success to former Japan junior team coach Bob Brett. “His services are unforgettable. He was also my coach and I attribute this success to him.” Satoshi added that before coming here he never had thought of such an easy sailing. “We are missing some of the key players and I was not sure whether we would be in a position to match Pakistan on the grass. To my surprise, my young players played brilliant tennis.” Aqeel though played a brilliant game in the doubles but he was unable convert the first set win into doubles victory. “We have beaten the best of teams here in the past. This time I don’t think we have succeeded in playing with the same strength. I have seen some improvement in my game today but it was not enough to unsettle well-versed Japan duo, who played exceptional tennis.”

Utah could soon become the seventh state where it is illegal for dogs to ride in the beds of pickup trucks. A viral video of a four-legged Utahn riding unrestrained on an open-sided truck bed inspired the bill, which is supported by the Utah Humane Society. No word if the bill was also inspired by the long-ago antics of Utah Sen. Mitt Romney. Volvo unveiled the electric C40 Recharge fastback crossover, which it estimates will have 210 miles of range. The C40's electric powertrain will make 402 horsepower and should manage a 4.7-second zero-to-60-mph time. Also this week, Volvo announced its plan to stop selling cars with internal-combustion engines by 2030. Porsche showed the electric Taycan's wagon variant, the Taycan Cross Turismo. Intended to compete with Mercedes-Benz's E-class wagon and Audi's A6 wagon, the Taycan wagon will come in four strengths. The top-dog Turbo S will give you 750 horsepower and an estimated 2.7-second sprint to 60 mph, if you can afford it. Here's how we'd spec it. Not to be outdone, Mercedes-AMG confirmed this week that it will build an ultra-high-performance version of the four-door GT. The GT 73 will be a hybrid and could make more than 800 horsepower, but the powertrain will still be based on a twin-turbo V-8, so don't expect to save money on gas.

If your eating habits have changed during the pandemic or you’re dealing with new sources of stress, you may find you’re getting painful heartburn and acid reflux more often. But don’t just reach for medication. Proton-pump inhibitors like Prilosec, Prevacid, and Nexium can be expensive. And when these drugs are used over the long term, they’ve been linked to an increased risk of heart attacks, kidney disease, and dementia. But the good news is that a recent study found that some simple lifestyle changes can be effective at targeting symptoms to keep chronic heartburn and acid reflux at bay. Maintaining a healthy weight is one of the most important factors in reducing painful symptoms. Getting at least 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise daily can help. So can following a healthy diet that includes a higher intake of whole grains and a lower intake of red meat and added sugars. And if you smoke, here’s another reason to quit. The chemicals in cigarettes can interfere with normal digestion in ways that can trigger heartburn. Consider your beverage choices. A study found that people who drank no more than two cups of coffee, tea, or soda a day experienced fewer symptoms. For occasional, unexpected mild heartburn, you can try an antacid to neutralize it. But if you expect to get heartburn after a spicy meal, a low-dose histamine blocker like Tagamet or Pepcid AC can decrease stomach-acid production. If you experience heartburn more than twice a week or it recurs for weeks or months, consider seeing your doctor. But tweaking your lifestyle may keep you out of the drugstore in the first place. Consumer Reports health experts also say that if you’re bothered by symptoms at night or when you lie down, it will help if you avoid eating within 3 hours of bedtime.

Intel’s SSD 670p rocks an updated PCIe 3.0 x4 controller and the company’s new 144-Layer QLC flash, offering up efficient and performant storage in a slim-yet-spacious M.2 package. It also comes with AES 256-bit hardware encryption support, making it a secure pick for those with sensitive data. Intel’s SSD 6-series M.2 NVMe SSDs brought Intel’s QLC flash to the mainstream market. With bargain price points and plenty of capacity, both the SSD 660p and SSD 665p have been excellent options for value seekers willing to accept less-than-mainstream levels of performance. However, while responsive, these SSDs couldn’t quite keep pace with the best SSDs on the market and lacked the endurance ratings we have grown accustomed to with TLC flash-based SSDs. While those SSDs have historically been good budget picks, Intel’s SSD 670p aims to take the SSD 6 series to another level. Intel’s SSD 670p is more than a simple revision — the low-cost M.2 SSD comes with the latest leading-edge NAND technology, improved endurance, and plenty of optimizations for office productivity and gaming. The SSD 670p is available in capacities of up to 2TB with pricing that ranges from $0.15-$0.17 per gigabyte. Intel tweaked and tuned the drives for low queue depth requests, making them snappy in everyday desktop PC tasks, and also focused on tuning for mixed read/write workloads to assure strong performance in more demanding workloads. The SSD 670p can deliver up to 3.5/2.7 GBps of sequential read/write throughput and sustain up to 20,000/54,000 random read/write IOPS at a queue depth (QD) of 1, an important metric to quantify snappiness during non-demanding tasks. Peak performance reaches up to 310,000/340,000 random read/write IOPS at a queue depth of 256. Notably, these specifications are based on the SSD’s dynamic SLC cache. Because cache performance is so important, Intel optimized the design to improve performance when the drive is nearly full. Like the SSD 665p, the 2TB SSD 670p’s cache measures up to 280GB when the device is empty, but the dynamic cache remains available until the drive is 85% full, an improvement over the 75% threshold with the older drive. At that point and beyond, the drive will operate with only a static SLC cache that measures 6GB per 512GB of capacity. Intel’s SSD 670p features global wear-leveling and supports robust LDPC error correction capabilities, end-to-end data path protection, and DRAM ECC and SRAM ECC for data reliability. These, in conjunction with the new flash’s enhancements, enable Intel to back the Intel SSD 670p with a five-year warranty and improve its write endurance over its predecessor. The 670p’s write endurance rating is 185 TBW for every 512GB of capacity, but the drive is only overprovisioned by 7% from the factory (2% less than Samsung drives, on average). While Intel has improved the SSD 670p’s endurance rating over its predecessors (endurance jumps from 100-150TBW per 512GB to 185TBW), the drive still can’t entirely overcome the endurance penalties associated with QLC flash. For instance, the Adata XPG Gammix S50 Lite comes with TLC flash and features 370TBW per 512GB of capacity, while the TLC-powered Samsung 970 Evo Plus comes with 300TBW per 512GB of capacity. The SSD 670p trails these drives in endurance but most consumers will write roughly 60-160TB of data in five years, meaning the 670p should provide plenty of endurance for a typical user. Intel supports the SSD 670p with the Intel Memory and Storage Tool (Intel MAS). This software allows you to monitor drive health, run diagnostic tests, update the firmware, and manually clear the SLC cache. Additionally, Intel provides an NVMe driver for its consumer SSDs, but at the time of publication, the latest downloadable version (version 5.1.0.1003) will not install on the SSD 670p. Intel’s SSD 670p comes in an M.2 2280 single-sided form factor for compatibility with the latest thin and light devices. Aesthetically, the SSD 670p’s green PCB and the white sticker aren’t the most attractive, but that only matters if you’re going to place the drive inside a new desktop build with a see-through panel and leave it exposed without a heatsink. The SSD 670p uses a custom Silicon Motion’s SM2265 controller, one of the company’s latest NVMe SSDs controllers specifically optimized for use with Intel’s latest 144-Layer 3D QLC flash. The SM2265’s architecture is similar to the SM2267 that powers the Adata XPG Gammix S50 Lite, but it lacks the higher-bandwidth PCIe Gen4 interface, employing a Gen3 PHY instead. The SM2265 leverages two Arm Cortex R5 CPU cores for I/O processing and interfaces with a single 2Gb Nanya DDR3L-1866 DRAM chip to buffer FTL metadata. It’s produced on a 28nm process node for cost-effective production and cool thermals. The drive also supports power-saving features, including ASPM, APST, and L1.2 sleep (rated at just 3mW of consumption), along with hardware-accelerated AES 256-bit encryption with support for Pyrite 2.0 for the security-conscious.Our 2TB sample comes armed with sixteen dies of Intel’s latest 144-Layer QLC flash, with eight dies per package. These dies interface with the controller at frequencies up to 1,200 MTps over four flash channels, up from 667 MTps with Intel’s previous-gen flash. Part of that improvement stems from scaling to the highest bit densities (13.8 Gb/mm^2) and layer heights the company has ever achieved. To reach 144 layers, Intel has moved to a 3-deck stack (48+48+48 layers) design, an industry first for mass-produced flash. In this block-by-deck architecture, Intel separates each deck with a dummy layer, and each deck can operate as either SLC or QLC. For more efficient block erases, each deck can be erased without touching the data stored on the other decks. Intel says this approach helps tremendously with garbage collection and boosts quality of service (QoS) significantly. The flash architecture also incorporates CMOS under the array (CuA) tech to boost density and features quad-plane access to enhance parallelism. Intel uses a floating gate cell design to optimize die space and boost data retention. Intel also claims the design can handle more parallel data operations. Intel also implemented a new independent multi-plane read operation (IMPRO) technique to double the number of read operations by splitting the four planes into dual two-plane groups that can be read asynchronously, allowing the SSD to simultaneously read from the TLC and QLC portions of the flash. The asynchronous nature of IMPRO can create noise coupling. To mitigate that effect, Intel configures the charge-pumps, wordline/bitline regulators, and drop-out (LDO) regulators to drive separate loads in each plane group. Additionally, to address the sensitivity of QLC technology and reduce first-pass program penalties, the flash features a 4-16 multi-pass programming algorithm and a 1-2-6-6 Gray code. The cells are optimized via a quad-level dynamic start technique that first programs the cell to a 4-level state, and then after the data is read from the cells, the cells are programmed into the final 16-state level.

The Indian car industry is going to see an action-packed March as a number of carmakers have lined up to introduce several new products in the market this month. Here's a list of the top car launches slated for March'21. Ford EcoSport SE: While there is no official announcement yet, dealer sources and media reports suggest that Ford is all geared up to launch its new EcoSport SE variant in the Indian market. The subcompact SUV was also spotted during a TVC shoot recently. It will feature several visual tweaks such as a redesigned tailgate which now misses out on a tailgate mounted spare wheel. It will now also feature a number plate recess, placed below a thick chrome garnish. For the record, this variant resembles the export-spec model. Expect the new EcoSport SE to be launched by mid-March. (Also Read: Ford issues two recalls due to issue in windshield adhesion, wrong payload info) Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine: The new Mercedes A-Class Limousine is going to come as a replacement to the A-Class hatchback and the CLA in Mercedes-Benz India's product portfolio. It will go on sale on March 25th. It will rival the likes of BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe. BMW M340i: The BMW M340i is slated to be introduced in India on March 10. The new car is a spruced-up version of the standard 3 series featuring a larger 3.0-litre straight-six petrol engine which pushes out 387 bhp of maximum power and 500 Nm of peak torque. The transmission option will include an 8-speed automatic gearbox. When launched, expect it to be priced somewhere around ₹50 lakh (ex-showroom). New Jeep Wrangler (locally assembled): Jeep introduced the new-gen Wrangler in India last year and the car became an instant success. Now the company will be addressing the high demand for the Wrangler in India by locally-assembling the SUV in the country. The new product will be identical to the global-spec model but will be priced rather aggressively thanks to the lower taxes. It will draw power from the same 2.0-litre petrol delivering 268 bhp of power and 400 Nm of torque. Skoda Kushaq: Skoda Kushaq was first showcased as the Vision IN concept at the 2020 Auto Expo. It will come out as the first offering to be based on the MQB-A0-IN platform. It is going to be a direct rival to the throne of Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta SUVs in India. It will be globally revealed in India on March 18 and will go on sale sometime around mid-2021.

In addition to the Covid-19 pandemic, the world is also facing a pandemic of obesity, which has been taking more lives as compared to the coronavirus. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), over four million people are dying annually as result of being overweight or obese, top gastroenterologists said on Sunday. “Covid-19 and obesity are two pandemics being faced by the world simultaneously, and, unfortunately, obesity is killing more people in the world as compared to the viral infectious disease,” said Prof Wasim Jafri in his state-of-the-art lecture on “Covid-19 GI and Liver Manifestation” at the 3rd Annual Virtual Conference of Pak GI and Liver Disease Society (PGLDS). Top gastroenterologists from various medical varsities and health facilities in Pakistan as well as from India, Azerbaijan and other countries of the world made their presentations on various aspects of gastrointestinal (GI) diseases, their management, prevention and treatment, and called for enhancing the awareness among the masses to focus on preventive measures. During the conference, new office-bearers of the GI society were also announced, and, according to the PGLDS, Prof Dr Lubna Kamani, associated with the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) and Liaquat National Hospital (LNH) became the first woman president of the GI society, while Dr Nazish Butt from Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) was elected vice president of the society. Prof Dr Amanullah Abbasi was elected general secretary of the PGLDS, Dr Hafeezullah Shaikh, as publication secretary, while three chapters -- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Punjab chapters -- were also included in the society. Prof Wasim Jaffri said obesity was alarmingly on the rise in the world and now it was the second pandemic that had gripped the world along with Covid-19. He added that liver failure cases were globally on the rise due to the pandemic of obesity. He spoke on different aspects of Covid-19, especially its effects on liver, and said acute liver injury had been seen in at least nine per cent of the patients hospitalised with severe infection of the coronavirus. Prof Jaffri said those who fortunately survive also face significant damage to their livers. Calling for vaccination as a top priority, he said the Hepatitis B vaccine was introduced in 1969, but despite its availability for the last several decades, the viral disease was still posing a serious health challenge in the world. He called for spreading awareness about the importance of Covid-19 vaccination to contain the pandemic as early as possible. President PGLDS Dr Lubna Kamani thanked the members of the PGLDS for electing her the first female president of the GI society in Pakistan and vowed that under her leadership and guidance as well as with the support from other members, the society would train new gastroenterologists and provide better treatment opportunities to the people of Pakistan in their respective cities and towns. Hoping that Covid-19 vaccine would soon be available for every citizen in Pakistan and make the 2021 a lot better year as compared to the previous year, she spoke on “Hepatitis C treatment in special po[CENSORED]tion”, and hoped that this disease would be eliminated by 2030 with concerted efforts and enthusiasm by the gastroenterologists. Patron PGLDS Prof Dr Shahid Ahmed thanked the speakers from various countries of the world for taking out time and making their presentations, while outgoing PGLDS President Dr Sajjad Jamil, newly elected VP Dr Nazish Butt, Dr Amanullah Abbassi, Dr Muhammad Kamran, Dr Hasnain Ali Shah, Dr Jibran Umer from KP, Dr Daud Gilzai from Balochistan, Dr Nasir Luck, Dr Amna Subhan, Dr Nauman Zakir, and others also spoke. Two leading Indian doctors — Dr Ajay Kumar Duseja and Dr Anil Arora — also addressed the conference, while Dr Gulnara from Azerbaijan, Dr Nadeem Tehami from the UK and Dr Sharmila from Malaysia also spoke.

Astra joins the line up, mani[CENSORED]ting cosmic energy to win in the battlefield Riot Games has announced the addition of Astra into the Agents lineup for the free-to-play game Valorant. Also announced at the same time is the introduction of a battlepass for players looking for a bit more in their game.Astra hails from Ghana and she controls Astral cosmic energy. She harnesses the energies of the cosmos to reshape battlefields to her needs. As she has full control over the energy around her, her abilities revolves around mani[CENSORED]ting energy from Stars she can place all over the map: GRAVITY WELL Players can activate a Star to form a Gravity Well. Players in the area are pulled toward the centre before it explodes, making all players still trapped inside fragile. NOVA PULSE Players can activate a Star to detonate a Nova Pulse. The Nova Pulse charges briefly then strikes, concussing all players in its area. NEBULA Players can activate a Star to transform it into a Nebula (i.e. smokescreen). DISSIPATE Players can activate a Star to dissipate it, returning the star to be placed in a new location after a delay. Dissipate briefly forms a fake Nebula at the Star’s location before returning. ASTRAL FORM / COSMIC DIVIDE Players can activate to enter Astral Form where players can place Stars at strategic locations around the map. Stars can be reactivated later, transforming them into a Nova Pulse, Nebula, or Gravity Well. When Cosmic Divide is charged, an infinite Cosmic Divide connects the two points selected. Cosmic Divide blocks bullets and heavily dampens audio. At the same time, Riot Games also introducing the Battlepass for players looking to ‘zhuzh’ up their playing experience with new weapons, sprays and cards for players to kit out with. "Our high level goal was continuing to respond to player feedback for the battlepass. Players told us they loved the cute POLYfox skins we made last year, so we wanted to expand on that line with another polygonal animal. This time, we took inspiration from the frog on Split (Froggie Hat!), which the community fell in love with during Closed Beta. With Prism III, we wanted to give players who don’t usually buy skins a chance to get their hands on the clean crispness of the Prism set. Adding color variants to Prism was also a fun way to give players more color options. I bet the bubblegum pink one will be po[CENSORED]r, especially the Axe melee! As for the accessories, our goal was to continue to create a lot of really thoughtful buddies, sprays, and cards that feel like they’ve been pulled from the VALORANT world, game lore (and teases), and community memes. I don’t know if players know this, but one of our unofficial goals is to make stuff we’re also excited about too!" - Preeti Khanolkar, Producer Check out the new weapons skins (Prism III, Cavalier and PolyFrog), gunbuddies and sprays in the Battlepass:

While many people will be perfectly happy using Office 365 and Google Workspace products for all their word processing and spreadsheet needs, others will prefer something a little less...proprietary. There are a couple of significant benefits of opting for an open source alternative to Office; the products are almost always free and often benefit from continual improvement from a large network of committed developers. We caught up with Italo Vignoli of The Document Foundation, which oversees po[CENSORED]r open source productivity software suite LibreOffice, to hear more about the project and where it is headed in the future. Here's our list of the best document editing tools right now We've built a list of the best open source software available Check out our rundown of the best office software out there What is The Document Foundation? Does it only support the development of LibreOffice or does it have a wider mandate? The Document Foundation was announced at the same time of the LibreOffice fork, as the home of the LibreOffice community. All activities are focused on the LibreOffice community, but are not limited to the development of the FOSS office suite. There are other major projects, such as the participation in the ODF (Open Document Format) Technical Committee for the advancement of the only ISO standard file format for true interoperability, the development of import/export filters for legacy and current proprietary file formats at the Document Liberation Project, the participation in advocacy groups for FOSS in public administrations (in Asia, Europe and Central/South America) and the support of native language communities (LibreOffice is released in 119 different language version, more than any other software worldwide). Could you explain the reasons that led to suffixing release post v7.1 as "Community"? The sustainability of FOSS projects doesn't happen by magic, especially if software is widely deployed in enterprise environments such as LibreOffice. We launched the LibreOffice project back in 2010, based on the following sustainability concept: individuals would support back-office and development of features that are not targeted to enterprise deployments with donations; volunteers would contribute their time to develop their own features and to contribute to other activities such as localization, quality assurance, documentation, design and marketing. Enterprises, meanwhile, would support the development of mainstream features through the purchase of LTS versions or the direct engagement of developers from ecosystem partners, who are firmly committed in merging all features in a timely manner on the master branch at The Document Foundation (TDF), for the reciprocal benefit of all individual and enterprise users. As a result, we would have had a "vanilla" version released by TDF and supported solely by volunteers (who can provide assistance to individual users, according to their own schedule), and an enterprise version with LTS (Long Term Support) from professionals, backed by SLAs (Service Level Agreements). This has worked for a while, but over time the number of enterprises supporting the project has shrunk, and as a consequence the number of new features has also shrunk. At the moment, we estimate than less than 10% of LibreOffice enterprise users are supporting the project by "giving back" through ecosystem partners, as they deploy the vanilla version from TDF and ask for support to volunteers. As we do want to stay loyal to the FOSS nature of LibreOffice, and avoid a dual licensed open core software (where the enterprise LTS version has more features than the free version, but is released under a proprietary license), we have added the "community" label to encourage enterprises to seriously consider deploying the version optimized for their needs. Of course, a simple label is not enough, so we will develop and engage in communication activities focused on educating enterprises about supporting FOSS projects effectively and responsibly. FOSS has become pervasive, and enterprises should consider that focusing on the zero cost of the software can seriously harm projects they are now relying on as strategic assets of their infrastructure, because it is short-sighted, as you save a lot today by not paying a dime, but you have to spend a lot tomorrow if the project is not able to self sustain, and you have to switch back to a proprietary solution with a huge price tag attached. For people who aren’t aware, could you give us a 20,000 foot view of the LibreOffice ecosystem, including how you engage with the ecosystem partners? The LibreOffice ecosystem is large and diverse; there are volunteers, both individuals and native language communities (i.e. individuals organized in groups based on their language, plus their geographical locations if the language is spread over different continents). There are companies focused on LibreOffice development and other companies focused on building added value around LibreOffice, e.g. by providing services, consultancy and support. There are FOSS organizations such as FSF, FSFE, GNOME and KDE, and large corporations like Google, who are backing the LibreOffice project as they support our philosophy. Organizations are usually represented inside the TDF Advisory Board, which is meeting on a quarterly basis to discuss the progress of activities. Most of the engagement, though, happens spontaneously on the typical tools of FOSS projects such as mailing lists and various chatrooms on several messengers. This is something which happens only inside open source projects, where meritocracy wins over bureaucracy. One of the most interesting aspects of the project for many is LibreOffice Online. However, getting the office suite to run inside a web browser isn’t a priority for the project. Why is that, and will the stance change with the WebAssembly port finally approaching production quality? A cloud solution based on the LibreOffice Technology has been available for several years from Collabora, which are the main code contributors of the Online branch, and is called Collabora Online. The WebAssembly port by allotropia will provide a different approach to getting LibreOffice into the browser. Both are based on the same platform for personal productivity called LibreOffice Technology, which offers unparalleled advantages over the technical puzzle of other office suites, which use a different engine and a different file structure for desktop, mobile and cloud. The fact that a cloud solution based on LibreOffice is not released by TDF is a detail, and cannot be seen as a lack of interest from the project. Rather the contrary - deploying a cloud office suite is not a trivial task, as you have to associate a secure sign-on solution and a cloud environment for file storage and access rights, and as such needs the resources of a professional service provider. At the moment this product is available from our commercial ecosystem, and this is perfectly in line with the spirit of the project. What are some of the interesting ongoing developments that you’re particularly looking forward to landing in LibreOffice? LibreOffice has a large feature set, which is comparable to proprietary solutions and is larger than in many other office suites. In addition, LibreOffice has a stronger focus on interoperability than any other office suite, including Microsoft Office. So, in a time where sharing digital content is more important than specific features, the development focus will be on compatibility with proprietary file formats. More broadly speaking, what are the priorities for the project in the near future? In addition to improving the overall quality and interoperability of LibreOffice, the project has priorities which are typical of FOSS projects, such as increasing the number of language versions, and advocating the adoption of the Open Document Format (ODF) and LibreOffice by governments and large organizations.

You can never have enough buttons. Whether you're knee deep in the latest raid wing in World of Warcraft or Final Fantasy XIV or you need a host of buttons for productivity in Adobe Photoshop, more buttons is helpful. This is where the MMO mouse excels. Since 2009, Razer has offered the Naga line of MMO mice, each competing to be the best gaming mouse for MMO players. Each model has offered between 6 and 12 buttons, with updates over the years. Enter 2021, and we have the Razer Naga X with a 12-button thumbpad, RGB and the latest in Razer mouse technology. The Razer Naga X’s $80 price tag puts it in line with some of the competition, including the Corsair Scimitar Pro RGB. That price point is above some other MMO mice however, like Redragon M913 Impact Elite or the Logitech G600 MMO mouse, which has seen its MSRP drop to $40 since its 2012 release. When I'd said the overall design of the Naga hasn't changed, that wasn't hyperbole. Like its predecessors, the Naga X has a gentle hump that's more situated towards the rear of the mouse. On the right side, there's a small resting spot for your ring finger. Overall, the general shape fits well into my larger hand, more so than a smaller design like from the Razer DeathAdder lineup. The Naga X is 4.69 x 2.93 inches x 1.69 inches, making it identical to the Razer Naga Trinity in dimensions and slightly less long, as well as less wide and slightly shorter than the Redragon M913 Impact Elite (4.82 x 3.62 x 1.65 inches). The Naga X is notably lighter than both the Naga Trinity and Redragon though (3.88 ounces versus 4.55 ounces and 4.23 ounces, respectively). The Naga X’s left and right click buttons both use Razer’s 2nd generation optical mechanical mouse switches. They have a snappy click with requiring much actuation force. In between the mouse’s two primary buttons is a notched scroll wheel and a single button that lets you toggle through 5 CPI settings, which you can program in Razer’s software if desired. This is where some of the design changes are felt. Unlike the wireless Razer Naga Pro and Naga Trinity, this is a single button, rather than two buttons so you can move up and down your CPI settings. It's an odd omission, but not one that’s likely constantly felt. There's no side-to-side tilt in the mouse wheel either, which was also a feature on previous Nagas, including the Nagao Pro and Naga Trinity. There are two RGB lighting zones on the Naga X: on the scroll wheel and the 12-button thumbpad. Unlike many gaming mice, the logo by the palm does not have RGB. Finally, on the bottom of the Naga X are three rather wide PTFE feet for smooth sliding on your surface of choice. Razer Naga X Gaming Performance The Naga X uses Razer’s 5G optical sensor, which is specced for up to 18,000 CPI, 50g of acceleration and a max velocity of 450 inches per second (IPS). These specs match the capabilities of the Naga Trinity’s sensor but increases the CPI by 2,000. The 5G sensor is a bit less powerful than what you’ll find in the pricier wireless Razer Naga Pro (Razer Focus+ sensor) but still proved reliable for MMO gaming and general use. The 5G is still packing powerful specs. For comparison, the Logitech G600’s sensor is specced for a max of 8,200 CPI, 30g and 160 IPS. Given the MMO moniker of the mouse, it's best to go to the source. I loaded up World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy XIV to test the mouse out. By default, the 12 thumbpad buttons are all bound to corresponding number keys, with the 10 button being 0, and the 11 and 12 buttons being the minus and equal keys, respectively. This means the default setting has the standard MMO hotbar bound to the thumbpad. During testing, I found that hitting 1-3 and 10-12 were pretty easy, as they occupy the outside edges of the thumbpad. The issue was in the 4-9 buttons. They're simply too close together, and the differentiation in angle isn't big enough to consistently hit the right button. The buttons are different heights, but the differences are so slight that it doesn’t matter. It's very easy to press the wrong buttons in the middle rows. In contrast, the Logitech G600 has what Logitech calls a "dual-dish" design, helping differentiation with “two carefully positioned sets of six buttons.” The Corsair Scimitar Pro RGB offers far more space between the buttons and an alternating texture pattern for each row. Both options add more variation, and Razer should be more willing to imitate some good ideas. My fix was to leave the 7-9 buttons unbound. If I have problems telling the difference between the second and third rows, it's better to just remove the third row. This gave me nine buttons to work with, which worked out pretty well overall. I was able to hit my standard rotation in both WoW and FFXIV with little issue. Of course, when buying a mouse with a 12-button thumbpad, the goal is to have 12 easily usable side buttons. I also missed the up and down buttons for DPI switching. I work on two monitors, so I tend to find myself working with one DPI setting in documents, a higher setting for general use and then switching to an even-higher one to transition from monitor to monitor. The two DPI switch buttons made that transition easier; whereas, the single DPI cycling button adds an extra click or two to my workflow. Across its entire line of products, the Razer Synapse software is still a winner. Outside of some stiff competition from Logitech's G Hub, the Razer software suite is one of the best around. The main page for the Naga X within the Synapse software lets you change all of the button mappings for every button on the mouse, including scroll up, down and click. Even the main Left and Right clicks can be changed if you want. The Naga X also supports Razer HyperShift, allowing you to set a button that'll change all the bindings to a second profile, essentially doubling the buttons available. You can create unlimited button profiles in Razer Synapse, though only a single profile can be saved to the onboard memory on the Naga X. Once again, the Naga X falls short of the Naga Pro and Trinity; both mice could store five onboard profiles. The Naga X’s profiles can be linked to specific games and launch automatically with them. I tended to default to one profile for general work—with buttons 1 and 3 being set to forward and back— and another for MMO gaming. Synapse is where you set the CPI toggle’s 5 stored settings, which can range from 100 CPI to a large 18,000 CPI. There are also 3 polling rate options in Synapse:t 125, 500 and 1,000 Hz. Lighting brightness and standard RGB effects can be set in Synapse, but if you want to do more, you'll need to use Razer's Chroma Studio add-on software. The Razer Naga X is a solid offering at its $80 MSRP. This is a classic design that gets you a workhorse MMO mouse you can push higher with Razer's excellent software. But the problem is the price has so many caveats. The Razer Naga Trinity has an MSRP that’s only $20 more, and it often goes on sale for even cheaper than the Naga X’s $80 price tag. The Naga Trinity has features left out of the Naga X: more onboard profiles, the tilt click scroll wheel and dual CPI buttons. You'll also gain the interchangeable side plates for 2, 7 and 12-button configurations, which is far more flexible. The only thing you lose is the top-end max sensitivity: the Naga X tops out at 18,000, while the Trinity is 16,000. I'd make that sacrifice. The Logitech G600 is long in the tooth and its max DPI is much lower, but its MSRP is down to $40 at this point. And for $30 less than the Naga X, you can pick up the Redragon M913 Impact Elite, which doesn't have the same build quality but can get the job done. I also like the design of the Corsair Scimitar Pro RGB Elite a little more than that of the Naga X, and it has the same price tag; the biggest problem with that mouse is being able to find one at retail anymore. The Razer Naga X isn't a bad mouse by any stretch. It's just a matter of the competition around it excelling in various areas -- including competition from Razer itself. It's a competent, mostly comfortable mouse for MMO gaming, but there are better options out there.

A BYD electric car equipped with Huawei's HiCar system in Shanghai, China. Another Chinese tech company Xiaomi is also planning to build its own car. Image Credit: AFP Chinese tech giant Huawei is planning to make electric cars under its own brand, and some models may even be launched before the end of this year. According to GSMArena, Richard Yu, head of Huawei's consumer business group, who was in charge of the company's amazing rise in the smartphone world, is said to shift his focus to EVs, which will target the mass-market segment. Huawei is in talks with state-owned Changan Automobile and other automakers to use their car plants to make its electric vehicles (EVs), according to two of the people familiar with the matter. Huawei is also in discussions with Beijing-backed BAIC Group's BluePark New Energy Technology to manufacture its EVs. In addition, another Chinese tech company Xiaomi is also planning to build its own car and is considering it as a strategic decision, but specific details and the path it aims to take are yet to be determined. As far as project leadership is concerned, Xiaomi's current CEO, Lei Jun, will be directly heading it. Back in 2013, Lei Jun had visited the US twice to meet with Tesla CEO Elon Musk and now it seems that its interest on the field has grown.

We have often heard how eating local, seasonal, and fresh foods help benefit our health immensely. It not only boosts our immunity but also helps fight seasonal illnesses. One of such locally available winter-favourite vegetables is mooli or radish. The white-coloured vegetable has a lot of benefits for our health and skin. Emphasising the importance of including radish in one’s diet, nutritionist Munmum Ganeriwal shared an Instagram post. “Suffering from cold and cough? Instead of reaching for a decongestant that makes one feel sleepy, include some mooli in the winter diet. Doing this will also ensure glowing skin all winter long. Radishes have anti-hypertensive properties that will take care of high blood pressure issues. Full of vitamins like A, C, E, B6, potassium, and other minerals, means that radishes can give the whole body an immunity boost. Mooli is also high in antioxidants and anthocyanins, which makes it great for heart health,” she said. In case you were still wondering, radish has these benefits: The root vegetable has various potent antioxidants that help one manage lifestyle issues like blood pressure, and enhance liver function. It is said that since radishes are low in carbohydrates and low glycemic index, they are suitable for diabetics, too. Radish is full of nutrients like folic acid, vitamin C, calcium, flavonoids, potassium which help regulate blood pressure. ALSO READ |Why you shouldn’t avoid mogri or radish pods this winter Ganeriwal also shared a po[CENSORED]r Garhwali dish from Uttarakhand called Thechwani made with radish and potatoes. “This dish is so authentic that you won’t find it on any restaurant menu, even in the region it’s from. Thecha in the local language means crushing and Wani means curry. Hence, Thechwani basically means a curry made by crushing. The main ingredients, mooli and aloo are crushed and then cooked,” she said.

As pharmaceutical giants ramp-up production in the race to vaccinate the world, one firm has shot into the lead. The Serum Institute of India (SII) isn't a household name, but it's the world's largest vaccine maker. The firm churns out 1.5 billion doses every year from the company's vast manufacturing plant in Pune, Western India. It is currently making Covid vaccines under license for pharmaceutical firms such as AstraZeneca. "We took a huge calculated risk", by betting on several vaccines in 2020 before regulators had even approved of them, SII's chief executive Adar Poonawalla told the BBC. "It wasn't a blind risk, because we knew the Oxford scientists from our earlier collaboration with the malaria vaccine." India begins world's biggest Covid vaccine drive What we know about India's coronavirus vaccines SII is privately owned, which enabled fast decision-making between Mr Poonawalla and his scientists. But funding proved a challenge. The firm invested around $260m (£186.7m) and raised the rest from philanthropists, such as Bill Gates, and advances from other countries. SII managed to secure $800m by May 2020 to make multiple Covid vaccines. Stashing away doses How did SII actually scale up production? In April 2020, Mr Poonawalla calculated what they would need, from vials and filters. "I got 600 million doses worth of glass vials ahead of time and locked it in my warehouse by September," he explained. "The most important part that enabled us to have so many doses - 70-80 million in January - was because I started manufacturing at risk in August." "I wish other companies also had taken that risk, because the world would have had many more doses." Mr Poonawalla criticised the patchwork of global regulatory systems and lack of harmonisation for production delays. He said the major regulators, including the UK's Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), could have united and agreed a quality standard. He also criticised national governments, claiming that regulators in the countries that are making the vaccines, from India to Europe, could have united to agree a standard international benchmark. "Why can't we still harmonise it and save all this time, especially even for the new vaccines. I'd hate to have to go through all this again." New variants Mr Poonawalla played down concerns about new variants: "Anyone who has taken that [Oxford AstraZeneca] vaccine so far hasn't had to go to hospital or go on a ventilator and had their life at risk. "They've also passed that disease on to others. So yes, it's not an ideal situation, but it has protected your life." In India, SII is also involved the world's largest inoculation programme, to vaccinate 300 million by August. But, according to Bloomberg, only 56% of people eligible to get a shot have actually stepped forward. "A lot of vaccine hesitancy traditionally has come about when either celebrities or non-experts have said vaccines are not safe," said Mr Poonawalla. "I always just request celebrities and others who have this tremendous power on the social networks, to just be a bit responsible and read up on the facts before they say anything."
