Battlefield 1 Electronic Arts and DICE's first-person shooter game, Battlefield 1 is the tenth instalment in the Battlefield series. The game was launched for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in 2016. Battlefield 1 received praise for its visuals and sound design. The game also features a multiplayer mode with support for up to 64 players. https://www.gadgets360.com/games/guide/ea-play-best-games-pc-ps4-ps5-series-x-s-one-star-wars-mass-effect-battlefield-3073292

Introduction and specs With the 4G version of the most affordable Redmi Note 12 this year out of the way, it's time to take time to know the 5G alteration as well. The thing is, the Redmi Note 12 4G and Note 12 5G employ different hardware so the user experience might vary quite a bit. It's not just the 5G part. The most obvious difference is in the chipsets. The 4G has a Snapdragon 685 on board, while the 5G option has a Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 SoC. And contrary to our expectations, the latter seems to be more powerful in every aspect. And it better be, because the original, 5G-capable Redmi Note 12 asks almost €100 more. Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 specs at a glance: Body: 165.9x76.2x8.0mm, 188g; Gorilla Glass 3 front, plastic back and frame; IP53, dust and splash resistant. Otherwise, it shares with the 4G model the same 120Hz OLED panel, the fast 33W charging, the 5,000 mAh battery and doesn't skip on triple combo - FM radio, dedicated microSD card slot and 3.5mm audio jack - sought-after features in the midrange. We go further down the rabbit hole in the next pages, so we suggest you continue reading to find out how the supposedly more efficient Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 chipset fares against the Snapdragon 685 performance- and endurance-wise. Unboxing the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 The device comes in a standard retail box containing all the usual user manuals, a USB-A to USB-C cable for charging and data transfer, as well as the appropriate 33W charging brick. There's also a bonus transparent, silicone case in the box to get you started. https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_note_12_5g-review-2557.php

MLB The Show 23 patch #3 is scheduled to arrive tomorrow morning around 7:00 AM ET for all platforms. The update isn’t as robust as the last patch but it does offer up some more fixes in various modes. UPDATE: (4-14) The patch is available. The team also updated some player emotion animations to show correctly, tweaked some of the UI and more, including pitch accuracy tuning and lowered player requirements for Live Series Captains. As always, check out the patch notes below, discuss in the comments and let us know what you’re seeing when the patch arrives in the morning. The featured screenshot above comes from jcar0725 via our Photographic Side of MLB The Show 23 thread. GENERAL The Jackie Robinson Day uniform update is now available within Road to the Show and Franchise. Fixed an issue where catchers could not pick off while player-locked. DIAMOND DYNASTY Fixed an issue where users would see a “loss” screen prior to starting a game in the playoffs of Mini Seasons. Fixed an issue where an NLB player’s card would remain on screen during an at-bat. ONLINE HEAD-TO-HEAD Fixed several crashes that could occur in Online Play. CO-OP Fixed a freeze that could occur while making defensive adjustments. Fixed an additional issue where bullpen displays could remain on screen. ROAD TO THE SHOW Fixed an issue in Custom Practice where pitches would not go to the selected location. MARCH TO OCTOBER AND FRANCHISE Fixed an issue that would display incorrect amateur players when scrolling on the Scouting Big Board. Fixed an issue where user was taken to the Created Stadiums section when selecting a stadium to play for the Futures game in Franchise. Fixed a visual bug that could display the wrong hot/cold momentum in March to October. MISCELLANEOUS Various player emotion animations will now display correctly. Various UI adjustments. Various commentary updates and adjustments. Added player numbers to helmets for New York Yankees uniforms. Resized the jumbotron at Citi Field. DEVELOPER NOTES Gameplay Balance Change – Pitch Accuracy Tuning We’ve heard the frustrations regarding pitching and perfect inputs not feeling as rewarding as we’d like, so we’ve made the following adjustments: Reduced frequency of pitches landing directly on the edge of the Perfect Accuracy Region (PAR). This benefits all pitching interfaces. Cleaned up some of the known instances where pitches could land outside of the Perfect Accuracy Region (PAR). Artwork tuning where the Perfect Accuracy Region (PAR) was not displaying at the true size on occasion. Removed the Perfect Accuracy Region (PAR) display post-pitch while slidestepping, as there is an accuracy penalty that is not accounted for within the initial PAR. It’s important to note that the core benefit of using Pinpoint Pitching above other interfaces is that it generates the smallest PAR, not necessarily that it is the most accurate within that PAR. However, these changes will help improve pitching accuracy across the board for all pitching interfaces, and we anticipate these changes will be most prevalent within Pinpoint Pitching. We want pitching to feel more rewarding, and these changes will lead to an improved experience with all pitching interfaces. Thank you for the clips, examples, and communication. We will continue monitoring the status through streams, telemetry, and playtesting as this Game Update goes live. Live Content Balance Change – Lowered Player Requirements for Live Series Captains Live Series Captains serve an important role in the Diamond Dynasty landscape, providing incentive for completing collections, enabling easily accessible theme teams, and adding utility to Live Series cards. We’ve found these captains aren’t being used as frequently as we’d like, even in theme teams, so we’ve lowered the squad building requirements for each tier of every Live Series Captain by one. For example, previous Captains would need 5 players for their Tier 1 Boost; now they only need 4. We hope this will increase the utility of these Captains and make Live Series cards more viable in Ranked play. https://www.operationsports.com/mlb-the-show-23-patch-3-available-tomorrow-patch-notes/

Nurses in the Royal College of Nursing union have rejected the government's pay offer in England and will now go on strike over the first May bank holiday. The 48-hour walkout from 20:00 BST on 30 April to 20:00 on 2 May will involve NHS nurses in emergency departments, intensive care, cancer and other wards. This will be "hugely concerning" for patients, the government says. Members of the Unison union - which includes some nurses and ambulance crews - have accepted the pay offer. The award on the table is a 5% pay rise for 2023-24. And there is an extra one-off lump sum of at least £1,655 to top up the past year's salary. Meanwhile, NHS junior doctors in England staged a four-day walkout over pay, which ended at 07:00 on Saturday. For the first time, the RCN says this new strike will mean some critical care services, such as intensive care, will not be staffed on strike days - something which did not happen in previous walkouts. The government has said this amounts to an escalation in strike action, "based on a vote from the minority of the nursing workforce". Chancellor Jeremy Hunt told the BBC the government had come a long way with its current offer, and urged NHS unions that are still voting to accept the deal because it would be "best for patients and best for staff". Healthcare bosses say further strikes will have an impact on reducing already lengthy waiting lists for treatment, which Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has promised to reduce. The result of the RCN vote on pay was close - 54% voted to reject the offer, while 46% voted to accept it. The Unison vote, however, was overwhelmingly in favour of the deal. 'Forced' to walk out Pat Cullen, RCN general secretary and chief executive, said the government "needs to increase what has already been offered and we will be highly critical of any move to reduce it". She said that until there was a significantly improved offer, RCN nurses would be forced to go back to the picket line. Sara Gorton from Unison, whose members voted for the pay offer, said: "Clearly health workers would have wanted more, but this was the best that could be achieved through negotiation. "Over the past few weeks, health workers have weighed up what's on offer. They've opted for the certainty of getting the extra cash in their pockets soon." A government spokesperson said the Unison decision "demonstrates that it is a fair and reasonable proposal that can bring this dispute to an end". But it said it was "hugely disappointing" that the RCN had rejected the pay deal recommended by their leadership. Krupesh Hirani, Labour's health spokesperson at the London Assembly, said the RCN result showed "the strength of feeling among the nursing profession that working conditions in the NHS have deteriorated to unacceptable levels". Hundreds of thousands of NHS staff from other unions are still voting on the same pay deal over the next two weeks. A Downing Street source indicated the government wanted to wait to see the outcome of the other ballots and that it was important to have a full picture before putting forward further steps. Meanwhile, the RCN told the BBC its members were not looking to strike on the same days as junior doctors. A source from the British Medical Association, the union representing the junior doctors, also said there were no plans for joint action. 'Not enough to help' Harry Eccles, a clinical nurse specialist on the south coast of England, voted against the government's offer and said he was glad that other nurses did too. "They're using their voice to fight for our patients and patient safety and fight for the NHS," he said. But Harry said the one-off sum offered by the government for 2022-23 was "going to pay off a few bills, and then we're going to be in the same predicament". And he was not impressed by the 5% pay increase for this year either, which he points out is still way below inflation. Strike action is a last resort, he added. "The government is refusing to listen, to give us the respect and the time, and to even recognise that without staff there is no NHS." What is happening across the UK? Nurses began strikes in December in England, Wales and Northern Ireland in the largest action of its kind in NHS history. Health unions in Wales and Northern Ireland are still in negotiations with their governments over pay, as healthcare and its budgets are devolved to all four nations of the UK. There has been no industrial action by nurses in Scotland after they accepted a pay offer from the Scottish government that will mean a 6.5% increase from this month, on top of a 7.5% rise for 2022-23. The government announced a pay offer for nurses in England on 16 March. Other strikes involving school teachers, railway workers and passport office workers have also taken place across the UK in recent months. The RCN says it will now reballot its members in England to see if they want to continue taking industrial action after the strike in early May. Unite and the GMB will announce the result of their ballots on the same pay deal in two weeks' time. https://www.bbc.com/news/health-65275362

From the creepiest Cambrian critters to massive marine reptiles, wonderfully weird sea creatures have inhabited our oceans for over half a billion years. We've put together a list of 25 of the strangest ancient sea monsters ever to have lived, all of which went extinct long before humans came along. The only reason we know that these evolutionary marvels existed is because some left behind fossilized remains in rocks. Modern researchers are still interpreting these fossils and making fresh discoveries all the time, so be sure to keep up with the latest Live Science fossil news. Plesiosaurs were a group of marine reptiles with boat-like bodies and four flippers. There were long-necked plesiosaurs (think ancient Loch Ness monster) and short-necked plesiosaurs (imagine a Loch Ness monster with a short neck and a massive head). Plesiosaurs lived from the Triassic period (251.9 million to 201.4 million years ago) until they went extinct alongside the non-avian dinosaurs at the end of the Cretaceous period (145 million to 66 million years ago). They lived across the world's oceans. "Not only were these animals odd compared to things that we have alive today, but they were also globally distributed and very, very diverse," Michael Caldwell(opens in new tab), a vertebrate paleontologist at the University of Alberta in Canada, told Live Science. https://www.livescience.com/strangest-ancient-sea-monsters

Lancia has revealed a bold new electric sports coupé that previews the design, technology and positioning of its future production cars. The Pura HPE is derived from the floating ‘Pu+Ra Zero’ sculpture the firm unveiled last year as a preview of its future design intent. The ‘HPE’ element of its name is taken from the High-Performance Estate variant of the successful Beta that redefined Lancia’s image in the 1970s, but in the Pura’s case it stands for ‘High-Performance Electric. The stylistic influence of Lancia’s iconic past models is clear: the rear end is a futuristic reinterpretation of the Stratos, the ‘calice’ LED front light bar is derived from the chrome motif on the front of cars such as the original Delta and Aurelia, and there is more than a passing resemblance to the legendary 037 in the HPE’s low-slung, squat proportions. These nods to Lancia’s “glorious and rich” heritage will be a defining theme of the brand’s future line-up, CEO Luca Napolitano has said, confirming recently that the first of these cars, the new Ypsilon, is “basically ready” ahead of its planned launch next year. The four-seat coupé concept – measuring 4450mm long, 1950mm wide and 1350mm tall – will not evolve directly into a production car, Lancia has suggested, but it gives strong hints to the design cues and technology that will feature on the firm’s upcoming models. These include the Ypsilon, which is being launched with hybrid and EV options (both most likely based on the Fiat 500), a new ‘flagship’ EV saloon coming in 2026 and the reborn Delta that’s due in 2028. Lancia will only launch electric cars from 2026 and will stop selling the hybridised Ypsilon from 2028, bringing to an end almost 120 years of combustion-engined Lancias. Also previewed by the HPE are Lancia’s plans for a radical interior rethink for its new cars. This is intended to help position the brand more concretely as a technology-focused premium alternative to the likes of Audi and BMW. The Pura HPE’s cabin has been designed to provide a “warm and welcoming” contrast to the clear-cut, more aggressive exterior. The deep, velvet front seats are said to provide armchair levels of comfort, for example, there are small round tables in the front and back, and the unique circular glass roof swivels open to provide an innovative new take on the classic targa top. The materials used throughout are 70% recycled, and Lancia is targeting a figure of at least 50% recycled materials for its production cars. Tellingly, Lancia’s new-generation infotainment system – previewed here for the first time – is called ‘Sala’, which translates to ‘room’ but also stands for ‘sound, air, light and augmentation’. This new platform is controlled either by voice commands or using an expansive (and purely conceptual) circular touchscreen that folds out of the dashboard and will provide a raft of new functions and interfaces aimed at enhancing the driving experience and providing new entertainment functions while waiting at charge points. A smaller screen for essential driving data is housed in the centre of the steering wheel. Lancia says the fully functioning HPE concept is a “joy to drive”, but the firm is keeping technical details close to its chest for now. Electric Lancias will be based on parent company Stellantis’s STLA EV platforms and closely related to equivalent models from sibling brands including Peugeot, Alfa Romeo, Maserati and Vauxhall. The brand has not yet confirmed whether UK sales are on the cards, having bowed out of the market in 2015, but it will begin selling cars outside of Italy for the first time since 2017 as it gears up to launch in France, Spain, Portugal, Belgium and the Netherlands. https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/lancia-pura-hpe-concept-stratos-inspired-vision-future

A power struggle between Sudan's army and a notorious paramilitary force has rocked the capital, Khartoum, with at least 25 reportedly dead and hundreds injured. Residents dodged gunfire as rival forces battled over the presidential palace, state TV and army headquarters. The clashes erupted after tensions over a proposed transition to civilian rule. Both the army and its opponents, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), say they control key sites such as the airport. Fighting continued into the night. Violence was also reported elsewhere in the country, including cities in the Darfur region. The army says jets are hitting RSF bases, and the country's air force has told people to remain in their homes while it conducts a full aerial survey of paramilitary activity. The fighting is between army units loyal to the de facto leader, Gen Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the RSF, commanded by Sudan's deputy leader, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo. Gen Dagalo said his troops would keep on fighting until all army bases were captured. In response, Sudan's armed forces ruled out any possibility of negotiations or dialogue "until the dissolution of the paramilitary RSF", and Gen Burhan ordered the group's disbandment. At least 25 people have been killed and 183 others injured in the violence, the Sudanese Doctors' Union told the Reuters news agency on Saturday evening. It said it did not know how many of the casualties were civilians. Earlier, the union said three civilians had been confirmed dead. A journalist from the Washington Post newspaper reported 30 people dead and nearly 400 injured, citing the United Nations. A simple guide to what's going on in Sudan People were filmed running away and taking cover as black smoke rose over Khartoum and the unrest continued. A Reuters journalist said there were armoured vehicles in the streets, while video showed a civilian plane ablaze at Khartoum airport. Saudi airline Saudia said one of its Airbuses came under fire. Saudia and EgyptAir have suspended flights to Khartoum and neighbouring Chad has closed its border with Sudan. "We don't have any electricity," a British-Sudanese doctor, who is visiting relatives in Khartoum, told the BBC. "It is hot. We can't afford to open the windows, the noise is deafening." Another eyewitness speaking to the BBC via her Kenya-based sister said: "Shooting is still ongoing and people are staying indoors - there is so much panic and fear." Residents had not been expecting the clashes, she said, and many had been caught in transit. with bridges and roads closed and many schools in lockdown. Duaa Tariq was speaking to the BBC when a military plane flew over her building. "They're shooting live ammunition at the roof of the house next door and we're just now taking shelter," she said. The UK, the US and the EU have all called for an immediate end to the fighting. The UN's secretary general has spoken to Gen Burhan and Gen Dagalo, urging them to end the violence. US Ambassador John Godfrey said he "woke up to the deeply disturbing sounds of gunfire and fighting. I am currently sheltering in place with the Embassy team, as Sudanese throughout Khartoum and elsewhere are doing". Russia's embassy was also concerned by the "escalation of violence" and urged a ceasefire, Reuters reports. The RSF claims control of at least three airports, the army chief's residence and the presidential palace, but Gen Burhan denied this in an interview with al-Jazeera. There are also reports of clashes at the state TV station, which eyewitnesses say is now controlled by the RSF. Gen Dagalo, also known as Hemedti, told al-Jazeera that Gen Burhan was a "criminal" and would either be killed or "face justice". Earlier, the RSF had said that one of its camps in the south of Khartoum had been attacked. For its part, the army has said that RSF fighters have been trying to seize the military headquarters. "Fighters from the Rapid Support Forces attacked several army camps in Khartoum and elsewhere around Sudan," the AFP news agency quotes army spokesman Brig Gen Nabil Abdallah as saying. "Clashes are ongoing and the army is carrying out its duty to safeguard the country." The Reuters news agency is also citing witnesses as saying that there was gunfire in the northern city of Merowe. The RSF released a video that it said showed Egyptian troops who had "surrendered" to them in Merowe. The Egyptian military said its soldiers were in Sudan to conduct exercises with their Sudanese counterparts and that it was co-ordinating with Sudanese authorities to guarantee the safety of its personnel. Generals have been running the country, through what is called the Sovereign Council, since a coup in October 2021. Gen Burhan is president of the council, while Hemedti is its vice-president. But a proposed move to a civilian-led government has foundered on the timetable to integrate the RSF into the national army. The RSF wanted to delay it for 10 years, but the army said it should happen in two years. Hemedti was a key figure in the conflict in Darfur that began in 2003 and has left hundreds of thousands dead. Western powers and regional leaders had urged the two sides to de-escalate tensions and to go back to talks aimed at restoring civilian rule. There had been signs on Friday that the situation would be resolved. The 2021 coup ended a period of more than two years when military and civilian leaders were sharing power. That deal came after Sudan's long-term authoritarian President Omar al-Bashir was overthrown. There have been regular pro-democracy protests in Khartoum ever since the coup. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-65284945

What are the best video games of 2022? That question has endless answers — and it depends on who you ask. As we approach the end of this year, we posed it to the gamers at Gadgets 360, and we got some truly fascinating answers. Inevitably, we have games that have won multiple awards and sold millions of copies. In them, you traverse treacherous lands or jump across dimensions, taking on all sorts of gnarly beasts and creatures. But we also have games that you might not have heard about. In one, it's just you and a hose. In a couple, you're turned into animals — as a determined feline, or a young resurrected ovine. In another, you're faced with the horrors of rodents, while navigating the horrors faced by two siblings. And we also have a game that's been out for a couple of years, but still going strong. But what unites all of them is that they provide unforgettable immersive experiences — like watching a season of a heartwrenching TV series, except you're tasked with making many of the protagonist's decisions. There's nothing like a great video game, and these are some of the best we've played in 2022. With that, presenting Gadgets 360's favourite titles this year, available on PC, Android, iPhone, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. (Basically, if you've got a gaming device, we have a recommendation for it.) Cult of the Lamb Cult of the Lamb is what you'd get if you mixed Animal Crossing with an Ari Aster movie — and then decided to turn it into a roguelike. Do not be misled by your cowering little lamb's cutesy appearance, who within the opening 10 minutes, has exacted violent revenge on its would-be murderers and pledged allegiance to a heretical outer god, who helped accomplish the task. All you need to do now is repay the debt by forming your own cult and spreading the word of faith among anthropomorphic followers, as your small community thrives in the lush backwoods. I named mine “The Hårga,” after the villainous pagan cult in Aster's film Midsommar, and embarked on a handful of adventures in one of the mysterious dungeons, unbeknownst to the harsh beasts thriving within. I kept dying and restarting my runs with a lack of care — as you do in roguelikes — and then randomly found two of my followers' carcasses rotting away in the hub world. They starved to death when I was hacking away at enemies in randomly generated levels. Before this, my only in-depth experience with roguelikes was in Hades, where the death count had zero implications on the friendlies I interacted with. But in Cult of the Lamb, the stakes are raised, and it truly puts you in the shoes of a responsible cult leader. Even without intelligible dialogue, I was forced to maintain strong interpersonal relationships to further my cause, which in turn, helped with upgrades. To put it simply, think of it like running a daycare. Each time you go on your wild hunts, collect resources such as food supplies and construction materials to ensure your followers are well-fed and comfortable. In return, you assign them daily chores like growing crops, chopping down trees, and building decorations to spruce up the place. Sure, you can offer gifts and marry some of your followers, but don't get too attached. For when the time comes to offer their bodies to sacrifice or feed on their dead remains — yes, there's cannibalism — you can't have second thoughts. While Cult of the Lamb made it clear that the followers' devotion is the source of strength, I was shocked by the kind of tyrannical monster I had turned into. Blinded by an undying thirst for power, I began mindlessly killing my adorable cultists, installing loud propaganda speakers, performing brainwashing satanic rituals, and exiling the naysayers to re-education camps — all with the singular, selfish goal of toppling the main boss. And oh, I forgot to mention — all this happened within an uninterrupted 11-hour play session. Yep, that's how addictive it is. — Rahul Chettiyar https://www.gadgets360.com/games/guide/best-games-2022-top-genshin-impact-elden-ring-god-war-ragnarok-stray-pc-ps5-ps4-xbox-mobile-3631713

Introduction Asus is a bit early with the ROG Phone launch this year, but you won't hear us complaining. It's time to once again take a deep dive into the mobile gaming world with what has consistently been the cream of the crop of mobile gaming hardware. We get the ROG Phone 7 and the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate edition this year. The Taiwanese giant is going for a simplified lineup, at least thus far and is only coming out with two devices. Both are based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and are rocking essentially the same specs. Today we have the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate in the house. As its name suggests, it is the top-tier offering within the lineup. In this particular case, this means including the ROG Vision display on the back and the AeroActive cooling Portal - both features making a comeback from the ROG Phone 6 family. The Ultimate only comes in one white color option - Storm White. Asus ROG Phone 7 Ultimate specs at a glance: Body: 173.0x77.0x10.3mm, 239g; Glass front (Gorilla Glass Victus), glass back (Gorilla Glass 3), aluminum frame; Built-in motorized cooling air vent (AeroActive Portal), IP54 water resistant, 2" OLED display (on the back), Pressure sensitive zones (Gaming triggers). Display: 6.78" AMOLED, 1B colors, 165Hz, HDR10+, 1000 nits (HBM), 1500 nits (peak), 1080x2448px resolution, 20.4:9 aspect ratio, 395ppi. Chipset: Qualcomm SM8550-AB Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (4 nm): Octa-core (1x3.2 GHz Cortex-X3 & 2x2.8 GHz Cortex-A715 & 2x2.8 GHz Cortex-A710 & 3x2.0 GHz Cortex-A510); Adreno 740. Memory: 512GB 16GB RAM; UFS 4.0, NTFS support for external storage. OS/Software: Android 13. Rear camera: Wide (main): 50 MP, f/1.9, 1/1.56", 1.0µm, PDAF; Ultra wide angle: 13 MP, f/2.2, 120-degree; Macro: 8 MP, f/2.0. Front camera: 32 MP (wide), f/2.45, 1/3.2", 0.7µm. Video capture: Rear camera: 8K@24fps, 4K@30/60fps, 1080p@30/60/120/240fps, 720p@480fps; gyro-EIS, HDR10+; Front camera: 1080p@30fps. Battery: 6000mAh; 65W wired, PD3.0, QC5, 100% in 42 min (advertised), 10W reverse wired. Misc: Fingerprint reader (under display, optical); NFC; 3.5mm jack; stereo speakers (2 amplifiers). Special "Ultimate" features aside, the ROG Phone 7 family is more or less an iterative upgrade over its predecessor rather than a major departure from the familiar formula. After all, why change something that is clearly working? Asus just went out to refine the phone and make it better in any way possible. The ROG Phone 7 has better performance and cooling than its predecessor, better speaker performance, and a brighter AMOLED display, to name just a few highlights. Other key features are still present as well, like the sturdy aluminum body and dual-glass design with Gorilla Glass Victus on the front and an ingress protection rating. The massive 6,000 mAh split battery with 65W fast charging is also here, and so are the impressive controls and connectivity options, including the ROG AirTrigger inputs and the side port for accessories like the AeroActive cooler. Unfortunately, things that haven't changed with this generation of the ROG Phone 7 include the camera setup, which appears to be borrowed straight from the ROG Phone 6 and still lacks a telephoto cam. Wireless charging is also still a notable omission from the phone. Adding all of this together, we end up with a rather familiar ROG Phone 7 Ultimate - refined in many meaningful ways but still sticking to the same core formula. Let's find out if it still has what it takes to be a top dog in the mobile gaming niche. Unboxing Asus ROG Phone 7 Ultimate We just have to start with the unboxing experience of the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate. And experience really is the right word here. The box is as lavish as always. It is shaped in a bold geometrical manner, which has become a tradition already, but this time around, the box is entirely made of recycled and recyclable biomass, which is great to see. The two-piece box features a magnetic "strip" on the outside, which plays a role in this year's ROG AR setup experience. The cardboard piece has a cutout to place the phone inside and functional buttons that interact with the initial setup mini-game. These types of experiences have become an expected part of ROG Phone unboxing and are always a real treat to enjoy. Being the Ultimate edition of the phone, we would expect some goodies in the box, and Asus did not disappoint in that department. As has usually been the case, the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate comes bundled with the AeroActive Cooler 7. We will review the latest version of the optional cooling accessory in its dedicated section. For now, you should just be aware that it is included in the box alongside a nifty carrying pouch. Also in the box is a bumper case for the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate, compatible with the AeroActive Cooler. You also get an Asus 65W wall charger and a USB Type-C to Type-C cable to go with it. https://www.gsmarena.com/asus_rog_phone_7_ultimate-review-2555.php

Police have arrested a self-described tech entrepreneur over the fatal stabbing in San Francisco of Cash App founder Bob Lee. The suspect is 38-year-old Nima Momeni from Emeryville, California. Mr Lee and Mr Momeni knew each other, police said. According to a LinkedIn profile for Mr Momeni, he is a technology consultant and start-up owner. Police found Mr Lee, 43, unconscious with stab wounds on 4 April near San Francisco's city centre. He died in hospital from his injuries. In a news conference on Thursday, San Francisco Police Department chief William Scott announced Mr Momeni's arrest, and added that the suspect knew Mr Lee. Chief Scott said Mr Momeni had been charged with murder and was now in custody at the San Francisco County Jail. He did not elaborate on how Mr Lee and the suspect knew each other. Prosecutors are seeking to hold Mr Momeni without bail. An arraignment hearing has been scheduled for Friday. Chief Scott said the "case is not closed" despite the arrest and that an investigation is ongoing into Mr Lee's death. Mission Local, a regional news outlet, first reported on the arrest and identified the suspect as someone who works in the tech industry. Citing police sources, the report said Mr Lee and the suspect were in a vehicle together and had an altercation before Mr Lee was stabbed. Police officers first responded to reports of the stabbing at around 02:35 local time (09:35 GMT) on 4 April. The San Francisco Standard viewed CCTV footage that shows Mr Lee walking down a deserted alleyway, seemingly looking for help. He is seen stumbling towards a parked car and lifting up his shirt to reveal his wound, but the vehicle drives off before the tech entrepreneur falls to the ground. Police found Mr Lee unconscious in the Rincon Hill neighbourhood with two stab wounds to his chest, and started to administer aid before rushing him to hospital. He was the chief product officer of the cryptocurrency company MobileCoin. Mr Lee is also credited with founding Cash App, a smartphone-based platform that allows person-to-person money transfers. The app is po[CENSORED]r in the US and is worth $40bn (£32bn), according to Forbes. His death garnered many tributes from figures in the US tech industry. It also ignited criticism against authorities in San Francisco for their response to the city's violent crime rate. During Thursday's news conference, San Francisco's District Attorney Brooke Jenkins addressed the criticism by saying that her office and police had "worked tirelessly" to solve Mr Lee's case and others. She also accused those who linked Mr Lee's murder to overall safety in San Francisco of making "reckless and irresponsible" statements. Ms Jenkins specifically mentioned Elon Musk by name, who tweeted after Mr Lee's stabbing that "violent crime in San Francisco is horrific and even if attackers are caught, they are often released immediately." She said the tweet "assumed incorrect circumstances about Mr Lee's death served to mislead the world in their perceptions of San Francisco". Police statistics suggest San Francisco's murder rate is fairly consistent. There were 56 murders last year, and 56 the year before. The city seems on track for a similar homicide rate this year. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the city has unusually high rates of property crime, such as theft and burglary, though lower-than-average rates of violent crime compared with other US cities. Whole Foods temporarily closed its flagship San Francisco store on Monday citing concerns about worker safety. Other retail giants, such as Walgreens and Target, have in recent years shut locations in the city or reduced opening hours because of crime concerns. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-65257806

Woolly mammoths weren't always the shaggy beasts depicted in books and movies. And now, scientists have a better idea of when these behemoths evolved some of their most iconic traits. Researchers from Sweden compared the genomes of 23 Siberian woolly mammoths (Mammuthus primigenius) to the genomes of 28 modern-day Asian elephants (Elephas maximus) and African elephants (Loxodonta). They found that over the course of the megafauna's more than 700,000 years of existence, its "trademark features" — such as woolly fur, small ears and large fat deposits — evolved too, according to a study published April 7 in the journal Current Biology(opens in new tab). "We wanted to know what makes a mammoth a woolly mammoth," lead author David Díez del Molino(opens in new tab), a paleontologist at the Centre for Palaeogenetics in Stockholm, said in a statement. "Woolly mammoths have some very characteristic morphological features, like their thick fur and small ears, that you obviously expect based on what frozen specimens look like, but there are also many other adaptations, like fat metabolism and cold perception, that are not so evident because they're at the molecular level." https://www.livescience.com/woolly-mammoths-werent-always-shaggy-heres-when-they-evolved-some-of-their-trademark-features

Dacia is gearing up to reveal the reinvented, third-generation Duster, which will be one of the most affordable and capable SUVs on sale. Due in 2024, the new Dacia Duster will swap from the ageing B0 platform to the CMF-B architecture used by its crossover cousins, the Renault Captur and Nissan Juke. As well as promising substantial gains in rolling refinement and packaging, the new mechanicals will also accommodate the Duster’s first hybrid powertrain. The Duster will be reimagined with greater emphasis on its activity-focused potential, to strengthen its edge over electric newcomers like the chunky Jeep Avenger, Mini Aceman and Ford Explorer. The upcoming third-generation car will gain a far more significant design refresh than the second, taking heavy inspiration from the well-received Bigster concept and pioneering a raft of features that could become hallmarks of the new-gen Dacia line-up. Most obvious at this stage are the new-look slatted front grille and LED headlights. The Duster is also expected to wear a prominent cladding package, nodding to its outdoor character. Note also the chunky, functional roof bars and unwrapped wing mirrors (top right), which suggest a new matt bronze colour will be added to the options. Snapped by Autocar’s spy photographers, the budget SUV shows off a more box-shaped design, similar to its Renault Austral sibling, but with a flatter front end and longer overhangs. Dacia’s new sleeker facia, which was rolled out across the range as part of mini facelifts last year, also makes an appearance. The new Duster will follow its forebears in serving as one of the market’s most capable and affordable 4x4 SUVs. Certainly, the prototype’s short overhangs, raised ride height, thick-walled tyres and brawny silhouette suggest off-road ability will be a priority. There are currently no four-wheel-drive cars based on the CMF-B architecture, so it remains to be seen how Dacia will add a driven rear axle without adversely affecting cost and packaging. Product boss Julien Ferry previously told Autocar the new car will “keep the recipe” of its forebear but “update it”, suggesting the capacity for instantly switching between 2WD and 4WD modes will remain, as will a ‘crawler’ first gear and standard-fit hill descent control. Speaking at the Paris motor show last year, design boss David Durand told Autocar the Duster will get a spacious interior and a modular roof storage system that could feasibly accommodate a tent for overnight stays. He said: “This is a good car that allows you to do anything else. I love to say that we have Jogger owners with carbon fibre mountain bikes that are more expensive than their car. But they put all their money in that, then they have the perfect car to go everywhere with it, and this is the spirit we want to push for our cars.” He added: “We are developing accessories, everything that can help. Making Dacia the best brand to support those activities. Being a way to do things.” In keeping with Dacia’s ethos of providing “all the things you need, nothing you don’t”, the new Duster’s cabin will take its lead from the Jogger and Sandero in placing more emphasis on utility than style. https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/new-dacia-duster-arrive-2024-enhanced-road-appeal
