The first Nasa mission since 1972 to put humans on the Moon's surface has been pushed back by one year to 2025. Few observers expected Nasa to make the previous 2024 date, because of a funding shortfall and a lawsuit over the landing vehicle. But the space agency's chief Bill Nelson confirmed the delay in a press conference on Tuesday. Under its Artemis programme, Nasa will send the first woman and the 13th man to the lunar surface. A US federal judge recently upheld a decision by the agency to award the contract to build a lunar landing vehicle for this mission to Elon Musk's company SpaceX. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos had contested the decision, in part because he said the contract was supposed to have been awarded to more than one bidder. Mr Bezos' firm Blue Origin had partnered with three other aerospace companies to vie for the prestigious lander contract. However, a funding shortfall from Congress meant this wasn't possible, according to a rationale published by Nasa at the time of the contract announcement. Mr Nelson partially blamed the landing mission's delay on the lawsuit. "Returning to the Moon as quickly and safely as possible is an agency priority. However, with the recent lawsuit and other factors, the first human landing under Artemis is likely no earlier than 2025," he said. However, commentators had been saying since last year that the lander cash problem made the 2024 date untenable. The judgment last week means that a version of SpaceX's Starship - currently undergoing testing at a site in south-east Texas - will be the vehicle used to carry people down to the lunar surface on that mission. The first mission under the Artemis programme is set to fly in February next year. Nasa will launch the Orion spacecraft on the powerful Space Launch System (SLS) rocket without people aboard. AMD CEO Lisa Su unveiled the first details about the company's EPYC Milan-X processors, which come with a 3D-stacked L3 cache called 3D V-Cache, during its Accelerated Data Center event today. AMD says that its new cache-stacking technology, which it will add to the existing Zen 3-powered EPYC Milan models to create the new Milan-X chips, will bring up to 768MB of total L3 cache per chip. That means there will soon be dual-socket servers with an eye-popping 1.5 GB of L3 cache in the system. AMD also shared a few examples of workloads that will benefit, and an impressive benchmark result that shows a 60% performance improvement. The chips will come to market in Q1 2022, but they are available as a preview instance in Azure now. Microsoft has released its own performance projections, too, but we'll cover those in the article below as well. As a quick refresher, AMD introduced its 3D V-Cache technology at CES 2021, showing a third-gen Ryzen prototype outfitted with an additional chunk of L3 cache. 3D V-Cache uses a novel new hybrid bonding technique that fuses an additional 64MB of 7nm SRAM cache stacked vertically atop the Ryzen compute chiplets to triple the amount of L3 cache per Ryzen chip. AMD claims that brings up to a 15% performance improvement in some games, meaning those chips will vie for the title of Best CPU for gaming when they come to market early next year. We've since learned many more details about those chips, including deep-dive info on the packaging tech at a Hot Chips presentation earlier this year. Now AMD is bringing this same tech to its long-rumored Milan-X data center processors, but it hasn't yet shared detailed specifications of the new chips. However, it has confirmed via its briefings and endnotes that the chips will come in at least 16-, 32- and 64-core variants, lining up with an earlier leaked list of the product stack. In fact, we've even seen them listed for sale at a B2B retailer. Here are the purported specs: Like with the consumer variants, AMD stacks a single 6x6mm layer of L3 cache directly over the L3 cache already present on each CCD (compute chiplet). Each CCD has 32MB of L3 cache before the modification. Adding the vertically-stacked L3 cache slice adds another 64 MB of cache, bringing the total to 96MB per CCD. The Milan-X chips will stretch up to 64-core models with eight CCDs, which brings the total to 768MB of L3 cache per chip. AMD has confirmed that its chips support higher stacks of L3, and HardwareLuxx has even found server BIOS settings that enable up to four cache stacks per chip with existing AMD EPYC Milan servers. The stacked L3 cache adds a roughly ~10% overhead to overall latency, which is comparable to the standard latency impact from simply adding capacity with standard on-die techniques. That's partly because the additional L3 cache slice is somewhat 'dumb' — all the control circuitry resides on the existing CCD, which helps reduce the latency overhead. In addition, because the larger cache reduces trips to main memory due to higher L3 cache hit rates, the additional capacity relieves bandwidth pressure on main memory, thus reducing latency and thereby improving application performance from multiple axes. AMD uses the same Zen 3 cores as normal; the control circuitry for 3D V-Cache was added as a forward-looking design choice during the initial design phases. AMD uses the existing EPYC Milan chips as the building block, so the chips will drop into the SP3 sockets in EPYC servers (a BIOS update is required). That reduces qualification time and speeds time to market. AMD reiterated many of the benefits of the solder-less hybrid bonding technique that enables 3D V-Cache, like a 200X interconnect density increase over 2D chiplets and a 15X density increase and 3X energy efficiency gain over micro-bump 3D packaging. AMD says hybrid bonding also improves thermals, transistor density, and interconnect pitch over other 3D approaches, making it the most flexible active-on-active silicon stacking tech. Additionally, AMD says no software modifications are required to leverage the increased cache capacity, though it is working with several partners to create certified software packages. Those packages might see further performance optimizations, too.

The all-new Mégane E-Tech Electric crossover is another serious ‘budge up’ from battery technology as it starts to shove combustion engines out of the mainstream. After all, the Mégane is a trusty old member of the family hatchback class, but this new car is purely electric – albeit to be sold alongside the plug-in hybrid Mégane for a couple of years. You won’t mistake this new model for the old one, though: its Range Rover Evoque-esque look, complete with a high waistline, a frowning brow and contrasting chevrons on its chin, is very distinct and rather sporting. This, in fact, is because this design was originally conceived as the styling for a performance version of the new car. As design boss Laurens van den Acker told us: “Everyone liked it so much that we made it the standard styling.” That will also explain the 20in wheels that will be standard fit on higher-spec versions, then. This is also an important car for Renault, since it’s the first model to sit on its new EV-specific modular platform, the CMF-EV. In this guise, that means front-wheel drive and a slimline mattress of lithium ion batteries with a usable capacity of either 40kWh or 60kWh, which translates to a WLTP range of 186 or 292 miles. DC rapid charging can be done at a rate of up to 130kW on the 60kWh model, which is good for a 10-80% charge in half an hour. Expect the 40kWh model to have slower charging (the CCS rapid-charging plug might even be optional), but every Mégane E-Tech Electric will be able to take 22kW from an AC charger. As for how it drives? Well, Renault bandied about the phrase “this is the GTI of the class” in its press conference, which Volkswagen might not be too pleased about (nor Renault Sport, we imagine). Calling it a hot hatch is overstating the truth, but on the evidence of our drive in a 60kWh pre-production car, it would be fair to say that this is the most fun you can have in an electric family car in the £30,000-£40,000 price range. Provided you can forgive the peculiarly squarish wheel, the steering response is quick yet light, even when weighted up in Sport mode, and works well with a front end that’s keen to dive into a corner. You’re also given a good sense of how much traction is available and precise enough throttle response that you can adjust your cornering line intuitively with your right foot. Which is good, because the biggest bugbear we have is the car’s tendency to spin its wheels up and squirm its way out of a corner if you unleash anything close to the 215bhp on tap. However, the roads were damp and we’re told that the engineers plan to sort this before the official launch, so we will reserve judgement for now. Ride comfort is good – potentially getting on for the best in the class, in fact. There’s none of the stodgy post-bump wallowing that some EVs suffer. It can feel brittle over expansion joints, but our test car rode on those 20in wheels, and even with that factored in, the damping and bump absorption are good, especially since the Mégane’s heft is neatly tied down in cornering. That’s largely thanks to a kerb weight of 1624kg, which is a result of new lighter battery and motor technology, weight savings in the aluminium door panels and a new heat pump and air-conditioning system that more efficiently reuses energy lost to help heat the cabin. For some context, that kerb weight is still a disappointing 300kg or so more than that of a petrol-powered Volkswagen Golf, but it’s also around 200kg lighter than a 58kWh Volkswagen ID 3, so the gains are clearly paying off. It certainly shows in terms of the handling vim, the well-judged ride and the impressive efficiency. That the 60kWh Mégane manages a WLTP range of 292 miles – much the same as the famously efficient Kia e-Niro 64kWh, despite a 4kWh- smaller usable battery capacity – says a lot. We found the Mégane efficient in the real world, too. On a fairly fast test route that included motorway and some Sport mode- worthy country roads in middling temperatures, it still delivered an indicated 3.5 miles per kWh, or around 210 miles to a charge. Poland has warned of a possible "armed" escalation on its border with Belarus, fearing its neighbour may try to provoke an incident with hundreds of migrants seeking to cross into the EU. Extra troops have been deployed after desperate crowds tried to cut a barbed-wire border fence. Poland, the European Union and Nato say Belarus is orchestrating the problem, a claim denied by its disputed leader. Poland says it is shutting a major border crossing at Kuznica. As many as 4,000 people are now caught up in the migrant crisis on Poland's eastern border, officials in Warsaw say. Overnight temperatures at the border have slumped below zero and several people have already died in recent weeks. EU and Nato members Poland, Lithuania and Latvia have all seen a surge in the number of people trying to enter their countries illegally from Belarus in recent months. Many are young men but they include women and children, largely from the Middle East and Asia. Activists say they are being used as pawns in a political game between non-EU Belarus, run by authoritarian leader Alexander Lukashenko, and its neighbours. EU officials complain of a continuing hybrid attack by Belarus. UN refugee agency spokesperson Shabia Mantoo said that it was very worried by the latest scenes: "Using refugees, asylum seekers and migrants to achieve political ends is unacceptable and must stop." Polish government spokesman Piotr Muller told reporters that at some point they expected "an escalation... which will be of an armed nature". Polish TV said many of the migrants gathering near Kuznica were accompanied by armed individuals with dogs. The head of Poland's national security department, Stanislaw Zaryn, said the migrants were under the control of Belarusian armed units. "Belarus wants to cause a major incident, preferably with shots fired and casualties," deputy foreign minister Piotr Wawrzyk said earlier. The Belarus defence ministry rejected the Polish statements as unfounded and unsubstantiated, and accused Warsaw of violating agreements by moving thousands of troops to the border. Russia meanwhile praised its Belarusian ally's "responsible" handling of the border row and said it was watching the situation closely. The EU accuses the Belarus leader of provoking the influx in retaliation against the bloc's sanctions. READ MORE: How Belarus is helping ‘tourists’ break into the EU It imposed the measures after Mr Lukashenko's crackdown on mass protests following last year's widely discredited presidential election, and the arrest of a dissident journalist on board a Ryanair flight that was forced to land in Minsk. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the EU would look at extending sanctions to include "third-country airlines" involved in flying migrants to Belarus. Mr Lukashenko has accused border guards in neighbouring EU states of being violent towards migrants. Interior minister Ivan Kubrakov said the migrants had arrived legally in Belarus and "as a hospitable country, we are always ready to accept everyone". Germany on Tuesday urged the EU to "take action" to help Poland secure its borders. Lithuania has also moved troops to its border with Belarus to prepare for a possible influx of migrants. The BBC's Paul Adams spoke to Barwa Nusreddine Ahmed, the brother of one Iraqi migrant who was at the Polish border with his wife and three children. They arrived in Minsk, the capital of Belarus, last month. With little to eat or drink, the people stuck at the border were suffering, Mr Ahmed said. He said Monday's move to the border post was planned on social media by the migrants themselves, but suggested Belarus was pushing them. "People know they're being used [by Mr Lukashenko], but they have no future," Mr Ahmed said. Tensions intensified on Monday when videos posted on social media showed a large column of people, including women and children, walking towards the Polish border in Belarus. Other videos showed large numbers of migrants being escorted by armed men dressed in khaki. Link : https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-59215769

Hot on the heels of the launch of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, new findings around Google's rumored folding phone (the Pixel Fold) have surfaced, hinting that the upcoming device won't get one of the standout upgrades from the latest range. The Pixel Fold will be getting the same 12.2MP primary camera the tech giant has used since its Pixel 3 handset from 2018, according to information from the code of the Google Camera app dug up by 9to5Google. This means it'll miss out on the 50MP primary snapper of the Pixel 6 series – one of the standout upgrades in this year's lineup of Google flagships. But if these findings are to be believed, the Pixel Fold will still get the 12MP ultrawide camera (from the Pixel 6) alongside the older 12.2MP primary sensor, as well as a pair of 8MP selfie cameras – one for when the Pixel Fold is open, and the other when it's folded. Downgrade? While it may seem like a step backwards to launch a newer phone that lacks the latest componentry of its predecessor, this certainly isn't unprecedented when it comes to foldable phones. Both Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 3 and the significantly more premium Galaxy Z Fold 3 don't share the same powerful camera specs with the Galaxy S21 Ultra. Similarly, Motorola's Edge 20 Pro with its 108MP primary camera is leagues ahead of the Motorola Razr (2020)'s 48MP unit, and costs a good deal less. The reasoning for this can vary, but when you look at the size of the new camera 'visor' in the Pixel 6 phones, you can imagine that at least part of the reason may be to keep the foldable phones slim. What's more, Google has been well renowned in the smartphone industry for its photo chops thanks to its impressive machine learning and software that goes into it, with the hardware specs of most Pixel phones not mattering nearly as much as the behind-the-scenes action. If Google is able to keep its folding phone svelte and still offer the excellent algorithmic photo and video capabilities it's been known for, all the while reducing costs by foregoing more recent and expensive tech, we're not too worried about the camera hardware being downgraded. 2022 release Previous information had pointed at a late 2021 release for the rumored Pixel Fold, but as that time period is coming to a close, it's looking more likely to be next year at the earliest. Furthermore, 9to5Google's analysis of the code has found a reference to "isPixel2022Foldable" – a term that's structured much the same way as previous releases such as the Pixel 4's "isPixel2019". This is fairly strong evidence to suggest that Google expects to launch its Pixel Fold next year, which would line up perfectly with the company's Q2 2022 launch of the recently announced Android 12L, a restructuring of the Android 12 mobile OS that's been designed to work with larger screens in foldable devices and tablets. Despite the strength of all these latest findings, they still aren't close to being official announcements from Google itself, so as always, take them with a grain of salt. Harry is an Australian Journalist for TechRadar with an ear to the ground for future tech, and the other in front of a vintage amplifier. He likes stories told in charming ways, and content consumed through massive screens. He also likes to get his hands dirty with the ethics of the tech.

Ali Colquhoun looks nervous. The affable Scot’s normal day job is teaching HGV drivers and their transport managers to extract the best from heavily tech-laden machinery at Mercedes-Benz Trucks’ Customer Experience Centre near Barnsley. But today, he’s got me, and – all credit to him – I detect only the merest flinch when I admit that reversing a horse trailer into a paddock is the nearest I’ve come to driving an articulated vehicle. But you can imagine that scenario being played out many times (at least, the government would hope so) over the coming months, as the barriers to obtaining an HGV 1 licence (code C+E), which allows you to drive a full-sized, 44-tonne articulated lorry, are relaxed. In short, before the end of this year, budding truckers will no longer have to first pass the HGV 2 (code C) test, which currently permits them to drive only a rigidbodied truck, since it will be merged with the HGV 1 test Unless you’ve been locked in a news-free bunker over the past few weeks, you’ll appreciate why. There’s a shortage of truckers and the race is now on to attract as many new drivers as possible into the profession to keep the wheels of industry turning because, put simply, pretty much everything we consume as a nation is at some point transported by these huge, multi-axled behemoths. Speeding up the process still further will be the relaxing of car and towing restrictions for those drivers who passed their test after 1997, freeing up vital training resource, which will be redeployed to increase the number of drivers being put through their truck tests. This explains why I’m here today, looking at the bluff and towering cab of an 18-tonne Mercedes Actros rigid-bodied truck and wondering what I’ve let myself in for. The plan is for me to sample a small but important part of what a learner trucker would have to go through towards passing their HGV 1 test, and to see if I can avoid making a complete Horlicks of it. Ironically, the HGV 2-class vehicle we’re about to climb into will no longer be part of the process and that, says Colquhoun, is concerning, because the skills needed to drive it are different, and not necessarily less demanding. But first, a real-world demo. Colquhoun drives me on public roads around the test centre so I can get a feel for the tech in a moderntruck. And frankly, it makes most modern cars look primitive. Its 300-horsepower 7.7-litre inline six sits between driver and passenger, mainly beneath the floor. Air pressure controls not only the brakes, as you’d expect, but also adjustment of the seats and steering column, so when you’re on the move, you gently bounce in frequency with the air-mounted cab. Mercedes now equips the Actros (a generic name covering all of its heavy on-road trucks from 18 to 44 tonnes) with MirrorCams, which replace the traditional door mirror with a high-mounted camera on either side of the cab, its information displayed through two tablet-style screens on the inside of the A-pillars. Fuel consumption is reduced by 1.5-3%, thanks to improved aero, but a vastly better perspective for the driver than with a physical mirror (our demo truck has both for comparison) reduces blindspot terrors while also remaining dirt- and rain-free at all times. We’re hauling a measly five-tonne dummy weight today, but thanks to what Mercedes calls Predicted Powertrain Control, Colquhoun can preset various ‘rules’ in the truck’s systems, such as upper-speed tolerance, cornering momentum and even how soon the truck backs off power as it approaches a junction. I say ‘the truck’, because all of this is linked to highly sophisticated cruise control tech that uses a camera with a twomile range to see prevailing road topography and react accordingly, improving safety but also optimising economy, engine life and therefore up-time while it’s on a fleet. Labour's Sir Keir Starmer has accused the PM of "corrupt and contemptible" behaviour in trying to "protect" Tory MP Owen Paterson, after he was found to have broken lobbying rules. Sir Keir told the BBC the government was "trashing" the UK's reputation for upholding democratic standards. Mr Paterson has now quit as an MP. Ministers backed plans to change the standards system that found Mr Paterson guilty but changed their minds the next day, following a political outcry. The reforms - supported in a vote by MPs on Wednesday - could have had the effect of putting back a 30-day House of Commons suspension Mr Paterson was facing for breaching the rules by lobbying on behalf of two private companies. But environment Secretary George Eustice defended the government's position, saying it had been trying to give politicians under investigation the right to appeal against any findings against them - rather than protect Mr Paterson. He told BBC One's Andrew Marr Show: "We've been consistent on this throughout." Paterson row: How did PM score spectacular own goal? What did Owen Paterson do? What does 'sleaze' mean when politicians use it? But Sir Keir told the same programme: "Instead of upholding standards, [the prime minister] ordered his MPs to protect his mate and rip up the whole system. "That's corrupt and it's contemptible and it's not a one-off." Sir Keir also said: "When there was sleaze in the mid-1990s [the then Prime Minister] John Major rolled up his sleeves and he put in place the Nolan Committee on Standards in Public Life - so he was the prime minister who said, 'I will clear this up.' "Boris Johnson is the prime minister who is leading his troops through the sewer - he's up to his neck in this. "I don't think you or anybody else could with a straight face say this prime minister is the man to clean up politics and to have the highest standards in public life because he is in the sewer with his troops." On Wednesday, Conservative MPs blocked the Standards Committee's recommendation that Mr Paterson should be suspended by calling for an overhaul of the MPs' standards watchdog instead. They initially had the backing of No 10, but Downing Street changed its mind after a furious backlash by opposition MPs and some Conservatives. Speaking on Sky News, Mr Eustice acknowledged the government had "made a mistake" in trying to get Mr Paterson's breach of lobbying rules re-examined by a new, Conservative-majority committee which would also consider the entire Commons standards regime. He added: "What we have seen is a Westminster storm in a teacup." "But the overall principle, that you should have due process and a right of appeal in these types of situations, I don't think anybody doubts," Mr Eustice said. Meanwhile, the chairman of Parliament's Standards Committee has called on Parliament to approve his committee's report on Owen Paterson's conduct - even though Mr Paterson has resigned as an MP. Writing in the Observer, Labour's Chris Bryant said this would be the bare minimum needed to declare beyond doubt that Mr Paterson's conduct was "corrupt". The government had planned to set up a new committee to judge MPs' conduct - but later reversed its decision. Mr Paterson denies breaking the rules. When he resigned, he issued a statement saying he now wanted a life "outside the cruel world of politics", adding: "I maintain that I am totally innocent of what I have been accused of and I acted at all times in the interests of public health and safety." His resignation will trigger a by-election in his North Shropshire seat. Link : https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-59196404

According to @hongxing2020 on Twitter, a refresh of the GeForce RTX 2060, RTX 3070 Ti and RTX 3080 could be on the horizon. These compete with the best graphics cards, and outfitting them with higher memory capacities will make them more attractive. The most significant upgrades go to the RTX 2060 and RTX 3070 Ti. Hongxing believes the 2060 refresh will pack 12GB of memory, and the RTX 3070 Ti will feature 16GB, doubling the amount of memory for both cards. The RTX 3080, on the other hand, will only feature a small bump in VRAM capacity, up to 12GB. This will upgrade the RTX 3080 to the same memory capacity as its bigger brother, the RTX 3080 Ti. The leaker believes the RTX 2060 refresh will launch on December 7th, with the RTX 3070 Ti and RTX 3080 following suit a bit later on January 11th. Please keep in mind these are rumors, so take these results with a grain of salt as always! Perhaps the most interesting card of the bunch is the RTX 2060. This card, in particular, has been rumored to feature a 12GB memory upgrade for nearly a year now (according to Videocardz). It seems strange that Nvidia would upgrade a card from 2019, but given the current graphics card shortage we're experiencing, upgrading an RTX 2060 to 12GB of VRAM might not be such a bad idea. RTX features like ray tracing and DLSS, along with ultra-high-quality textures, are starting to push 8GB memory configurations, never mind the 6GB RTX 2060. We suspect Nvidia is upgrading the memory to compensate for the more graphically demanding games we're seeing in 2021, like Far Cry 6. This could also be why Nvidia is targeting the RTX 3070 Ti and RTX 3080 for a memory upgrade, with their somewhat small 8GB and 10GB frame buffers. However, a more compelling reason to refresh these cards might be competition against AMD's high capacity Radeon RX 6000 GPUs, which feature significantly more memory than their Nvidia counterparts. Most of Nvidia's Ampere products have been a step behind AMD's RDNA2 cards in memory capacity, making Nvidia's cards appear worse on the spec sheet. The refresh would alleviate this "problem." The RTX 3080 does seem like an odd choice, though. The RTX 3080 Ti already ships with 12GB of GDDR6X on a 384-bit memory interface, while the stock RTX 3080 has 10GB GDDR6X on a 320-bit interface. It wouldn't make a lot of sense to have both models using the same memory speed, but shifting the RTX 3080 to 12GB of 16Gbps GDDR6 would yield nearly the same bandwidth (768 GBps vs. 760 GBps) while increasing capacity, and GDDR6 might be in better supply. Or these could all be fake rumors. If Nvidia can replace all three SKUs with these new refreshed models and offer them at the same prices as the current models (not counting scalpers), these cards might be a nice little upgrade for the relatively few customers who will acquire these graphics cards in the face of the ongoing graphics card shortage. Unfortunately, there's no reason the newcomers would end up priced any better than the existing models, and adding more VRAM would likely just increase the prices.

The Audi A8 has received a subtle facelift for 2022, with new styling features, advanced lighting technology and a top trim level reserved for the Chinese market. The luxury saloon’s front end has been redesigned with a wider grille, while the air intakes at the edges of the bumper have been angled slightly to make them appear more upright. A new S Line package will be available for the first time on an A8, adding bespoke styling features including S8-inspired blades in the side intakes. Optional Chrome and Black exterior packages have been carried over from the pre-facelift model, while the colour range has been updated with four new metallic and five new matt shades. The new A8 L Horch trim level has been created exclusively for the Chinese market, and is designed to rival other super-luxurious saloons such as the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. At 5.45m long, the Horch is 13cm longer than the existing A8 L. It features new wheels and chrome exterior styling, with optional two-tone paint - a first for the A8. The interior receives diamond quilting, deep-pile rear floor mats and foot-massaging relaxation seats as standard. The Horch is powered by the same 3.0-litre V6 found in the standard A8. All new A8 models are available with Audi’s Digital Matrix LED headlights, which use around 1.3 million micromirrors to split the light into individual pixels, similar to a digital projector. This allows the car to emit a “carpet of light” into the driver’s lane only. Digital OLED brake lights are now included as standard, with proximity sensors that activate them if another car comes within two metres of a stationary A8. Inside, two 10.1in infotainment screens have been added to the rear seats and are controlled by a touchscreen remote in the centre armrest. Optional extras include a cooler with a bar compartment, a fold-out centre console table and a perfume function. The updated A8 splits 40 driver assistance systems over several different packages - for example, the Park package features Audi’s remote park assist, allowing the car to automatically manoeuvre in and out of parallel or bay parking spaces without the driver needing to be in the car. The City package includes Audi’s pre-sense 360deg safety system to lift the suspension up in a side impact to protect the occupants, while the Tour package features adaptive cruise assist to automatically adjust its speed. The engine line-up remains unchanged, with the six-cylinder 3.0 TDI and 3.0 TFSI producing 282bhp and 335bhp respectively. The TFSIe hybrid option delivers 455bhp - slightly more than the range-topping 4.0 TFSI, a detuned version of the V8 found in the S8. All engines are connected to an eight-speed Tiptronic gearbox and Audi’s Quattro four-wheel drive system. The 563bhp V8-powered S8 performance variant gets predictive active suspension, a sport differential and dynamic all-wheel steering included as standard. It promises 0-62mph in 3.8sec. Rescuers are searching for survivors in the wreckage of a 22-storey block that collapsed under construction in Nigeria's largest city, Lagos. At least 10 people have died and dozens are missing. Rescue workers at the site say they have heard more voices from under the rubble. Nine people have been pulled out alive so far. The partially built block of luxury apartments came down on Monday but what caused the collapse remains unclear. Overnight, despite the heavy rain, people used floodlights to continue the search digging through debris and twisted metal. Many relatives are now anxiously waiting near the site to hear whether their loved ones have survived. "Our sister is inside," Fawas Sanni told the Agence France-Presse news agency. His sister, Zainab, was working at the construction site as part of the National Youth Service Corps. "I was the last one who to spoke to her before she went to work yesterday morning," Mr Sanni is quoted as saying. Moses Oladipo, 65, was also waiting for news about his son. "He just came here to visit his friend, before his flight back to the US where he lives," Mr Oladipo said. He said when a man was rescued on Monday night, "I thought it was him, but no. I still have hope". In the meantime, local authorities have ordered an investigation into the collapse and pledged to make the final report public. Femi Adesina, a special adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari, said the president "commiserates with families who have lost loved ones". The building came down at around 14:45 local time (13:45 GMT) in the upmarket district of Ikoyi. It was part of a complex named 360 Degrees Towers, which was intended to house luxury apartments, town houses and penthouses, according to the development's website, which has since been taken offline. The housing scheme is being developed by Fourscore Homes Limited, which has a portfolio of projects in the UK, US, South Africa, and other areas of Nigeria. Construction worker Ade John told BBC Igbo that he was on the ground floor when the building started caving in. "There were 40 bricklayers who came to work, including some engineers on the first floor," he said, fearing that they had not escaped. A witness who was working in an office building opposite told the BBC's Outside Source that he heard a sound, looked out of his window and "saw the building literally going down floor by floor". According to the AP news agency, visiting Lagos' deputy governor Femi Hamzat was met by crowds of angry people on Monday who accused authorities of not starting rescue efforts soon enough. Western Digital this week said that it would start volume shipments of its 20TB hard drives featuring OptiNAND technology next month. Western Digital's OptiNAND technology uses an iNAND UFS embedded flash drive (EFD) with an HDD to improve performance, reliability, and capacity. But the question is, will those 20TB drives be available to consumers? "Next month, we will commence volume shipments of our 20TB CMR hard drives based on OptiNAND technology," said David Goeckler, chief executive of Western Digital, on a call with analysts and investors. Western Digital's 20TB HDDs with OptiNAND rely on the company's familiar nine-platter 7200RPM helium-filled platform that uses energy-assisted perpendicular magnetic recording technology (ePMR). OptiNAND adds several advantages to the platform as it stores various kinds of metadata data on the EFD instead of rotating media. The tech frees up onboard and makes metadata related to repeatable runout (RRO) and adjacent track interference (ATI) available to the controller faster, optimizing performance. The amount of metadata stored on modern HDDs is quite significant, so offloading it to NAND makes perfect sense both from a usable capacity and performance point of view. Furthermore, OptiNAND also boosts the reliability of HDDs. Officially, Western Digital's OptiNAND-equipped HDDs are meant for cloud data centers and enterprises. However, OptiNAND is poised to solve performance and effective area density challenges of all hard drives, so nothing can stop a user from installing such a drive into a desktop or NAS and taking advantage of all the features that OptiNAND has to offer At this point, we have no idea whether Western Digital plans to offer OptiNAND-equipped 20TB HDDs to the channel. However, unlike its SMR-based HDDs, these drives actually make a lot of sense for this market. Unless, of course, they are priced at levels not accessible to average enthusiasts.
