  1. It's uncertain whether it's pure speculation or insider information, but Newegg seems to have all the juicy details on AMD's Radeon RX 6000-series graphics cards. In the latest installment of Newegg Insider (via VideoCardz), the U.S. retailer reportedly exposes the specifications for the Radeon RX 6900 XT, RX 6800 XT and RX 6700 XT. Newegg Insider is a platform that offers consumers buying guides, videos and product overviews. Some of the specifications in the article appear to fall in line with a previous discovery. Since we can't be certain if the author had access to confidential information or not, we recommend you take the specifications with a bit of salt. A couple of things make us question the accuracy of Newegg Insider's alleged specifications. The publication seems to think that all three RDNA 2 graphics cards will come with a 1,500 MHz base clock, which seems doubtful. This is probably conjecture since we probably won't know the exact clock speeds until AMD announces the Radeon RX 6000 series on October 28. Secondly, the Radeon RX 6700 XT presumably features 6GB of GDDR6 memory. If the Stream Processor (SP) count is legit, the Radeon RX 6700 XT should replace the Radeon RX 5700 XT, which has 8GB of GDDR6 memory. We wouldn't say it's impossible, but it's unlikely that the successor would arrive with less memory than the model it replaces. The confined memory interfaces show up as red flags on the map, too. However, rumors have neem brewing that AMD might have revamped the cache design on RDNA 2 to alleviate the lower memory bandwidth. AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT, RX 6800 XT, RX 6700 XT Specifications* *Specifications are unconfirmed. According to the Newegg Insider, the Radeon RX 6900 XT, RX 6800 XT and RX 6700 XT are equipped with the same 1,500 MHz base clock and 16 Gbps GDDR6 memory chips. The Radeon RX 6900 XT supposedly checks in with 5,120 SPs and 16GB of GDDR6 memory across a 256-bit memory bus. The end result is a memory bandwidth of 512 GBps. Apparently, the Radeon RX 6800 XT lands with 3,840 SPs and leverage 12GB of GDDR6 memory. It's plausible that the Radeon RX 6800 XT could have a 192-bit memory interface, putting the maximum theoretical bandwidth at 384 GBps. As for the Radeon RX 6700 XT, the graphics card ostensibly has 2,560 SPs and 6GB of GDDR6 memory. The publication claims that the Radeon RX 6800 XT and the Radeon RX 6700 XT offer the same level of memory bandwidth, albeit the latter having 6GB instead of 12GB. The final bit of information from the article shows that the Radeon RX 6900 XT, RX 6800 XT and RX 6700 XT might sport TDP (thermal design power) ratings of 300W, 200W, and 150W, respectively. Admittedly, there are still a lot of questions surrounding the Radeon RX 6000 series. Lucky for us, AMD will have all the answers for us in a month.

  3. EVGA has seemingly confirmed that issues with a certain type of capacitor are the source of an increasing number of reports of crashes associated with factory-overclocked Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 graphics cards. These capacitors were cited in a recent article by Igor's Lab as the probable source of the issues that have spawned complaints in enthusiast forums and Reddit about unexplained RTX 3080 crashes and black screens. EVGA's statement, which comes in the form of a forum post, cites its own issues with the capacitors in its designs, and all but confirms that capacitors could play a role in the recent reports: "Hi all, Recently there has been some discussion about the EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 series. During our mass production QC testing we discovered a full 6 POSCAPs solution cannot pass the real world applications testing. It took almost a week of R&D effort to find the cause and reduce the POSCAPs to 4 and add 20 MLCC caps prior to shipping production boards, this is why the EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 series was delayed at launch. There were no 6 POSCAP production EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 boards shipped. But, due to the time crunch, some of the reviewers were sent a pre-production version with 6 POSCAP’s, we are working with those reviewers directly to replace their boards with production versions. EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 XC3 series with 5 POSCAPs + 10 MLCC solution is matched with the XC3 spec without issues. Also note that we have updated the product pictures at EVGA.com to reflect the production components that shipped to gamers and enthusiasts since day 1 of product launch. Once you receive the card you can compare for yourself, EVGA stands behind its products! Thanks EVGA" [Emphasis Added] Reports began circulating earlier this week that some of Nvidia's new RTX 3080 cards were crashing during gaming sessions, and the stability issues have largely been observed during times that certain third-party graphics cards reached or exceeded 2.0 GHz. Notably, that's the factory-overclocked range of most third-party RTX 3080's. Manually downclocking the impacted cards by ~100MHz has seemed to remedy the RTX 3080 black screen, but this is based on anecdotal evidence. Nvidia's own RTX 3080 FE models, which only reach 1.71 GHz, aren't impacted by the crashes. Igor's Lab notes that Nvidia's RTX 3080 FE cards don't use as many POSCAP capacitors, instead bundling them with higher-quality MLCC capacitors - and those cards don't suffer from the crashes and black-screening issues. In contrast, custom cards that use all-POSCAP implementations seem to suffer from the issue more widely. MCCC - Multilayer Ceramic Chip Capacitor POSCAP - Conductive Polymer Tantalum Solid Capacitors EVGA's statement above acknowledges that its own cards weren't stable with the all-POSCAP solution, all but confirming that the capacitors could play a role in crashes. In fact, EVGA says the all-POSCAP designs couldn't pass its own internal testing, so the company went with a mixed POSCAP and MLCC design, which solved the issues, albeit at the cost of a delayed launch. We do need to exercise caution, though. There is still the outside chance that this issue isn't entirely related to capacitors - Nvidia's Ampere cards have ratcheted up power supply requirements, and drivers are still in the early stages of widespread use. As such, capacitor-induced crashes might not be responsible for all crashing issues. Also, there is no guarantee that all cards with POSCAP-only designs are defective, instead, this could imply they simply have a greater chance of an issue (i.e., a slightly higher failure rate). Nvidia provides manufacturing recommendations to its AIB partners, and it is unlikely that it would have passed design rules to partners that would result in widespread failures. For reference, there are lists of third-party (AIB) graphics cards (compiled by reddit /user/Roseking/) and their capacitor arrangements available online. Be sure to check the reddit post for further updates to the list. In the meantime, be sure to head to Igor's article over at Igor's Lab for the deep-dive details about the capacitor issues. We reached out to Nvidia on the matter earlier this week, and the company has yet to acknowledge the crashing issues or provide a statement.
  4. Your Apple iPhone contains sensitive user information - such as your emails, photos, and payment details - and protecting your phone with a passcode can stop unauthorized users from accessing the data on it. By default, the passcode is a six-digit code, but you can instead use a custom alphanumeric password if you prefer. You can even disable your passcode completely, but this isn’t recommended for security reasons. In this article, we’ll show you how to change your Apple iPhone passcode and how to unlock your iPhone if you’ve forgotten your code. How to change your Apple iPhone password In the Settings app, choose Touch ID & Passcode and enter your current passcode (Image credit: Apple) Select Change Passcode to begin changing your iPhone password (Image credit: Apple) To begin changing your iPhone password, open the Settings app. Scroll down until you find Touch ID & Passcode. Choose this option and enter your current passcode when prompted. Next, scroll down again to find the Change Passcode option. After pressing this option, you’ll again be asked for your old passcode. After entering it correctly, you’ll be asked to input your new passcode. Note that there are additional advanced options that let you set up an alphanumeric passcode or a four-digit passcode if you press Passcode Options. Once you’ve entered your new passcode, you’ll be asked to verify it. Input your new passcode again, and you’ve now updated your Apple iPhone password. Don’t forget it! How to reset your Apple iPhone password If you’ve forgotten your Apple iPhone passcode, there’s no simple solution (Image credit: Apple) If you've forgotten your Apple iPhone password, there’s no straightforward way to get a reminder sent to you or to reset the passcode. You must wipe your iPhone, which unlocks it but deletes all the data on your device. However, if you’ve made a recent backup, you can restore your data from iTunes or iCloud. To perform the reset, you need a computer with iTunes installed. If you don’t have access to this, you can take your iPhone to an Apple Store or authorized partner, who can reset your phone for you. The process to erase an iPhone differs slightly by the version number. Start by disconnecting your iPhone from the computer. For iPhone 6s and earlier, as well as first-generation iPhone SEs, hold down the Top or Side button until a slider appears on the screen for powering off your device. Drag the slider to power off your phone. While holding down the Home button, connect your phone to the computer. This will load the recovery screen and you can erase your iPhone’s data. For iPhone 7 models, hold down the Side button until a slider appears on the screen for powering off your device. Drag the slider to power off your iPhone. While holding down the Volume down button, connect your iPhone 7 to the computer. Follow the instructions on the recovery screen to erase all iPhone data. For the latest models (iPhone X or later, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone SE second generation), hold one of the volume buttons and the Side button at the same time until a slider appears on the screen. Drag the slider to power off your iPhone. Now, while holding down the Side button, connect your phone to your computer. After a few moments, the recovery screen will appear on your iPhone and you’ll be able to erase all data.

  12. It will bridge the gap between the regular GTI and the all-paw R. The Volkswagen Golf lineup has blossomed this year to include the spicy GTI, GTE, and GTD trio along with the practical Variant and Alltrack duo. There’s more to come on the performance side as 2020 will also see the unveiling of the GTI TCR and the mighty R. The former has been spied this week conducting final testing at the Nürburgring where VW brought several prototypes. A more track-focused take on the GTI recipe, the TCR will be a follow-up to the namesake special edition introduced towards the end of the Golf Mk7’s lifecycle. This time around, it’s expected to be a permanent fixture rather than a limited affair, and there’s a pretty good chance it will pack more punch. While its predecessor pushed out a respectable 286 horsepower, the new version has been all but confirmed to deliver a meaty 296 hp. Gallery: 2021 VW Golf GTI TCR new spy photos Even with the extra 10 Wolfsburg-bred horses, the MK8-based GTI TCR still won’t be the most powerful front-wheel-drive Golf ever. Remember the Clubsport S? The former fastest FWD production car at the ‘Ring had an additional 10 hp over the upcoming TCR for a grand total of 306 hp. We wouldn’t get our hopes up too high regarding the availability of a manual gearbox as the previous model came only with a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission. Beyond the extra power over the regular GTI, the hardcore TCR is expected to feature a stiffer suspension setup for sharper handling, along with uprated brakes and different aero. VW could install some body-hugging seats and tweak the chassis furthermore to squeeze out more performance from the Honda Civic Type R rival. Speaking of competitors, the 2021 Golf GTI TCR will also have to do battle with a new contender, the BMW 128ti, previewed this week as a 262-hp FWD hot hatch with a limited-slip differential and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Golf GTI TCR should debut in the coming weeks or months, with the flagship R and its nearly 330-hp output not far behind. We'll remind long-roof fans the R Variant is returning for the Mk8 Golf, based on a recent set of spy shots.
  13. The days blurred into weeks, then months. Now, almost six months later, the pandemic still rages, and the work from home arrangement that started as a temporary fix is set to continue in many companies, to the delight of some and dismay of others. The old normal has given way to the new and WFH, an acronym that was born in the lockdown and quickly became part of everyday lexicon, is here to stay, at least for the foreseeable future. As millions of professionals strive for the optimum work-life balance in extraordinary times when they have been confined to their homes, industry giants as well as start-ups have told their employees to continue to be there. It works for some and not for others, longing to get back to life as it was. Finance analyst Rishabh Maheshwari is saving on four hours of commute from his home in Gurgaon to his office in Noida. He has been using the extra hours to work out, and also prepare for a certification exam later in the year. “I am getting more things done in a day, thanks to work from home. It has allowed me to be flexible with my time. My productivity at work too has increased. I would like if the choice to work from home is flexible even after the pandemic,” Maheshwari said. For Anshika Mehta, however, the charm has worn off. She is tired of working in isolation with no demarcation between weekdays and weekends and no workplace interaction. Add to this the stress of the uncertain COVID-19 situation and no clear end in sight, and she seems quite done. “The initial lockdown phase allowed me to explore my culinary skills and keep in touch with my creative side. But it has been six months. All days are the same. I am really looking forward to joining back and being able to say, ‘Thank God it’s Friday’ at the end of a work week,” the 32-year-old Gurgaon-based corporate communications professional said. That the precautionary measure — India’s lockdown started on March 25 — would continue for six months and counting was unfathomable. For companies and their employees. As India’s COVID-19 tally surges — it crossed 52 lakh with 96,424 people testing positive in a day, according to the Union Health Ministry on Friday — companies big and small are also calculating the pros and cons and tweaking their work rules. The trigger for the WFH introduction might have been the risk of contracting the infection, but one major reason for its prolonged continuation is companies saving on real estate costs. ALSO READ | Survey reveals what work-from-home employees want from offices. Food aggregator Zomato, which has reportedly shut 125 of over 150 offices worldwide during the lockdown, said real estate has been one of its “highest recurring expenses”. After testing the sustainability of work for home for nearly two months, the company said it has decided to make “partial or full work from home a permanent feature for certain roles/teams”. “We felt the biggest advantages were flexibility of work hours and saving the workforces’ travelling time, while the biggest challenge was ensuring every ‘zoman’ working remotely continued to feel connected and well supported,” Daminee Sawhney, VP-HR, Zomato, told PTI. Also looking at WFH as a permanent solution is Cars24, a platform for buying and selling used cars that currently has 60 per cent of its staff working from home. The company said it felt confident about the decision, particularly after “the tremendous hike in the Happiness Index” as well as the productivity matrix of its employees during the lockdown. “Our employees have been happier working from home because they get to spend more time with families. There has been ‘a growth in discipline’ among the employees. For instance, meetings start on time. We also believe that WFH brings in a factor of convenience since location is no more a boundary while we look at talent,” said Sonam Lama, general manager HR, CARS24. In the last couple of months, several other companies have joined the ‘continued WFH’ bandwagon. While search engine giant Google has said its employees will continue to work from home till June 30, 2021, social media behemoths Twitter and Facebook declared that remote working could continue ‘forever’. “If our employees are in a role and situation that enables them to work from home and they want to continue to do so forever, we will make that happen,” a May 12 blogpost by Twitter read. For those who cannot sustain work from home, offices will ‘be their warm and welcoming selves, with some additional precautions”, the company said. Home grown multinational IT company Tata Consultancy Services is also looking at an office model in which only one-fourth of its employee force will be required to come to office by 2025, according to the TCS Annual Report 2019-20. For many, the ‘semi permanent’ shift to work from home means the limbo continues and also that they need to make sure infrastructure at home is as efficient as that in the office. The upgrade is not always easy. Anish Choudhary, a public relations professional who got stuck in his hometown in Talcher, Odisha, after the lockdown was announced said he has been working 12-14 hours a day. “The working hours have increased significantly. I am now spending somewhere around 12-14 hours in front of the screen managing team meeting calls, sudden client changes and abrupt timelines,” he said. “Since I am in a very small town in Odisha, the lack of infrastructure is creating a lot of issues. Non-availability of high-speed internet and 24X7 electricity is a big hindrance,” Choudhary, whose PR firm is based out of Delhi, added. For companies, the challenge is keeping employees connected with each other despite the distance. Working remotely has conspicuously reduced informal interactions between colleagues, almost eliminating the workplace social culture. We believe that working together in a commonplace helps in learning, nurturing individuals and teams, creating a value-based culture. So, we look forward to things settling down soon,” said Anand Ayyadurai, CEO, VOGO (a scooter/bike rental platform). “People joining in don’t get enough of the team bonding exercise that used to happen involuntarily earlier,” Lama added. Poornima Singh, an HR professional at a Noida-based multinational, said a lot of her colleagues have been availing the ‘work from office’ option too. “We have extended work from home till April next year, but have given an option to our employees to work from office on some specific and predefined days in a week, and a lot of people are increasingly opting to work from office. “Many employees feel there are less distractions and therefore they work better in the office. They feel their productivity will increase as they move away from their regular boredom and usual schedule at their homes,” she said.
  14. The number of confirmed coronavirus cases across the globe has surpassed 30 million, according to figures by America's Johns Hopkins University. More than 940,000 have died with Covid-19 since the outbreak began in China late last year. The US, India and Brazil have the most confirmed cases, but there is a renewed spike in infections across Europe. Many northern hemisphere countries are now bracing for a second wave of the pandemic as winter approaches. WHO warns Europe over 'very serious' Covid surge Coronavirus: Where are the global hotspots? What are the rules in France and other parts of Europe? In the UK, the government is considering taking further England-wide measures including a short period of restrictions to try to slow a second surge of infections. Outside Europe, Israel brings in a second nationwide lockdown later on Friday - the first nation to do so. Africa has recorded more than a million confirmed cases, although the true extent of the pandemic in the continent is not known. Testing rates are reported to be low, which could distort official figures. What is happening in key countries? A team of infectious disease experts at Johns Hopkins University, in the US city of Baltimore, have been documenting the global spread of Covid-19 on its tracking website. According to their data, the US remains by far the worst-hit country in terms of sheer numbers, with more than 6.6 million confirmed infections, and over 197,000 deaths. The number of new daily infections has been dropping, though, after a spike in July. Earlier this week, President Donald Trump denied downplaying the seriousness of Covid-19, despite admitting in a recorded interview to having done that. In India, the number of known infections climbed above five million this week - the second-highest caseload in the world. When comparing figures from different countries it is important to bear in mind factors such as po[CENSORED]tion size and density. For instance, India has a po[CENSORED]tion of 1.3bn people. However, the virus appears to be spreading much faster in India than any other country, with daily cases topping 90,000 in recent days. More than 80,000 people have died, amid reports of shortages of intensive care beds and oxygen supplies. India's Covid crisis sees rise in child marriage and trafficking India faces oxygen scarcity as cases surge Brazil has had more than 4.4 million confirmed cases, with more than 134,000 fatalities - the second-highest death toll after the US. President Jair Bolsonaro has come under criticism for downplaying coronavirus, particularly after attending an anti-lockdown rally. The right-wing leader - who had been calling the virus a "little flu" - himself tested positive in July. Argentina and Mexico have also been hit hard by the outbreak in Latin America. Argentina on Thursday reported nearly 13,000 more cases over a 24-hour period, pushing the country's overall total above 600,000. Meanwhile, Mexico confirmed more than 3,000 daily infections, bringing the caseload to more than 680,000. At the same time, deaths per 100,000 people vary significantly from country to country, with San Marino, Peru and Belgium having the highest rates, and India one of the lowest. In the table below, countries can be reordered by deaths, death rate and total cases. In the coloured bars on the right-hand side, countries in which cases have risen to more than 5,000 per day are those with black bars on the relevant date.
  15. Local governments and municipal leaders rely heavily on data to ensure the safety of residents, especially where driving is concerned. However, it’s not always easy to obtain the kind of data that could be used to, for example, identify hotspots of unsafe conditions or monitor trends in motor vehicle safety. City Insights is a new tool that aggregates anonymized data from the 15,000 commercial fleets that make up Samsara’s customer base, and is intended to help fill this gap. The data collected by City Insights can be used to identify what Samsara calls “harsh events,” like sudden braking, crashes, and speeding. The hope is that by providing cities with both raw data and a visual representation of this information, it will be possible to gain actionable insights at multiple levels, from adding street signs to highlighting opportunities for educational outreach programs. Here are the best data loss prevention services available today Make sense of big data with these cloud analytics solutions Gain greater insights with powerful data visualization tools Initiative Vision Zero Many cities in the United States and abroad are actively taking steps to improve driver safety, in an initiative known as Vision Zero. Formed in Sweden in 1997, the project seeks to eliminate serious and fatal crashes from highway systems and roadways. The initiative has seen increasing support in the United States in recent years, with no fewer than 20 cities having joined since 2015, including San Francisco, New York, and Washington, D.C. Tackling the problem of motor vehicle safety, both for those behind the wheel and for pedestrians, is a complex problem. The 1.6 trillion sensor data points garnered from Samsara’s network of GPS trackers each year promises to be a useful resource for municipal leaders, as they attempt to fulfill the goals of Vision Zero.
  16. Since the Nvidia Ampere Keynote, we've known the RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 are going to be absolute power suckers, Nvidia itself recommends a bare minimum of a 750W power supply for the RTX 3080 and RTX 3090, but you'll need larger power supplies for some systems. Our testing backs that up, too; we observed up to a 335W average power draw from just the 3080. This means many of us will need new power supplies, unfortunately right during a global PSU shortage that has sent pricing skyward (more on that shortly). However, current platform-level power supply recommendations for Ampere systems are somewhat vague, with CPUs these days varying in power consumption significantly. Asus is attempting to rectify the issue with a chart explaining what PSU wattage requirements you really need for your specific Ampere GPU + CPU platform. (it also included a PSU table for Turing.) Power Supply Requirements for Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 For the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 PSU requirements, you'll want a 750W power supply for mainstream Core i5/i7 processors and Ryzen 5/7 CPUs. That requirement jumps to 850W for Intel Core i9 and Ryzen i9 chips, with a peak of 1000W for Intel HEDT and AMD Threadripper platforms. Power Supply Requirements for Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Mainstream Core i5/i7 and Ryzen i5/i7 PSU requirements stay the same for the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 as they are for the RTX 3090. However, you only need an 850W power supply for HEDT/Threadripper and Core i9/Ryzen 9 platforms. Power Supply Requirements for Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Finally for the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 PSU requirements, you'll "only" need 650W for Core i5/i7 & Ryzen 5/7 systems, 750W for Core i9/Ryzen 9, and 850W for HEDT/Threadripper platforms. Power Supply Shortage 2020 - Causes and Impact Ampere's increased power consumption requirements is going to be a shock for system builders – up until now, Nvidia has tended to keep power the same but push the performance envelope as high as possible (cards like the GTX 750 Ti and GTX 1070 are good examples). But Nvidia's unorthodox strategy with Ampere puts performance over power consumption, which will push a lot of PC builders toward upgrading their PSU. If only it were that easy. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, power supply volume has been at an all-time low, causing stock outages and prices to skyrocket. We touched upon the topic a month ago, and the cause of the PSU shortage is a multi-pronged issue: The desktop PC market grew faster than expected due to everyone working from home The pandemic paralyzed China's production for a few months Shipping products via plane became three times more expensive due to the pandemic Looking at 750W power supply listings on Newegg.com, it appears that stock for PSUs is okay today, but prices are still over-inflated on most units. So if you're one of those unlucky people that don't have a qualifying unit to compliment your RTX 3080, be prepared to pay even more for your RTX 3080 upgrade than you see on the sticker. Supply chain issues can take months to resolve, and we may not be in the worst of the shortage yet. Given the current state of the market and the expected rush of new PSU orders as enthusiasts build out new Ampere systems, it's possible we could see the supply situation worsen, or pricing increase further. We'll update as necessary.
  17. Spoiler alert, a Porsche wins. The Porsche 911 is an iconic sports car that’s spawned some of the most fantastic motoring machines ever. The company’s latest Turbo S models, both available in coupe and convertible flavors, come loaded with horsepower and torque. It’d be a nail-biting race with just those two, but the folks at Carwow added a third contender, a 991.2 GT3. Both the Turbo S Cabrio and Coupe pack a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter flat-six engine that produces 650 horsepower (484 kilowatts) and 590 pound-feet (800 Newton-meters) of torque. Both feature all-wheel drive while routing power through an eight-speed gearbox. The GT3 uses a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six mill that produces 500 hp (372 kW) and 339 lb-ft (460 Nm) of torque. While the GT3 is down on power, it’s lighter than the other two, weighing in at 3,152 pounds (1,430 kilograms). The Turbo S Coupe weighs 3,637 lbs (1,650 kg) while the Cabrio is 3,769 lbs (1,710 kg). The first event was a drag race. Both of the Turbo models complete the quarter-mile in 10.4 seconds; however, the Cabrio earned the win by first crossing the finish line. The coupe had a slower start, giving the Cabrio a small lead that it could keep. The GT3, however, completed it in 11.6 seconds. A rolling race shows the Cabrio’s disadvantages compared to the Coupe – drag. The Coupe was able to pull away from both the Cabrio and slower GT3. The first event was a drag race. This is the only event where the GT3 shined, stopping in a shorter distance than the other two models. That’s likely due to its lighter curb weight. What was surprising about the challenges was how close the coupe and convertible versions where regarding performance, which was impressive in the rain.. The Coupe was able to pull away from both the Cabrio and slower GT3.
