  2. Where Is Xur Today? (Aug. 20-24) - Destiny 2 Xur Location And Exotics Guide We're in the final weekend of Destiny 2's Season of the Splicer, and that makes this the final visit of Xur before Season 15 kicks off. With a whole bunch of weapon changes coming next week, this is a great chance to visit Xur for new Exotic weapons and armor. Xur shows up at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET on Fridays. We'll update this post as soon as Xur arrives with all the info you need about where to find him and what he's offering. Xur returns to the solar system every weekend in Destiny 2, starting with the daily reset at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET each Friday. The thing is, where he'll land isn't known until he actually arrives. Xur can hang out at one of several locations, including in the Tower Hangar area, on Nessus in Watcher's Grave, and in the Winding Cove area of the EDZ. Xur's inventory also changes each week, so it's worth revisiting him on the weekends for new weapons and rolls on Exotic armor. You can visit him any time between his arrival Friday and the weekly reset at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET the following Tuesday when Xur departs the solar system. Each week, Xur offers one Exotic weapon and three pieces of Exotic armor: one for each character class. The inventory is random, as are the stat rolls you can expect on each of his armor offerings, so if you're looking to fill out your collection or if you're hoping for better versions of Exotics you already have, it's worth visiting him. Xur also brings an Exotic Engram, which is guaranteed to drop something you don't already have, if there are Exotics missing from your collection on that particular character--but that doesn't include Exotics you have to earn through activities, including the new Exotic armors added each season, which can only be claimed from Legendary or Master Lost Sectors.
  3. Client SSDs: Samsung Retains No.1 Spot, SSDs Outsell HDDs by 2.6x Shipments of solid-state drives in the second quarter of 2021 remained almost flat, due in part to a slight sequential decline in PC shipments in Q1 and to ever looming shadow of component shortages. Unit wise, SSDs outsold hard drives by 47% as most client systems now use solid-state storage, but HDDs lead in terms of capacity by 411% as they are used to store the majority of data generated today. Samsung remained the world's largest supplier of SSDs followed by Western Digital, and Kioxia. 99.6 Million SSDs Shipped in Q2 The industry shipped 99.6 million SSDs in Q2 2021, up slightly from 99.438 million drives in Q1, according to Trendfocus (via StorageNewsletter). These drives can store 68.63EB (exabytes) of data, up 10.7% from 62EB in the first quarter. By contrast, three makers of HDDs shipped 67.6 million hard drives with a capacity of 350.7EB. Avid readers know that while SSDs lead in terms of unit shipments these days, HDDs lead in terms of capacity as they are used for bulk storage in hyperscale datacenters operated by companies like AWS, Google, Facebook, and Microsoft. M.2 modules are cheaper to make than drive form-factor (DFF) SSDs, which is why they are cheaper and therefore more po[CENSORED]r than 2.5-inch solutions. It is a bit surprising that DFF devices feature a higher average capacity than M.2 drives, but perhaps people are buying more high-capacity 2.5-inch SSDs to upgrade their old PCs and this causes such an effect. In any case, 500/512GB SSDs are now considered average, so while manufacturers still sell many 250/256GB drives, higher-capacity models are gaining traction. It is noteworthy that while client SSDs outshipped client hard drives by 2.6 times as far as units are concerned in Q2 2021, the average capacity of a client HDD is over 5 times higher compared to that of a client SSD. 12.74 Million Enterprise SSDs Enterprise-grade SSDs are sold in lower quantities than client drives, around 12.74 million units were sold in Q2 2021. But these SSDs feature considerably higher capacities and prices, so manufacturers prioritize their production over client SSDs. During the quarter both SATA and PCIe enterprise drives demonstrated rather impressive sequential shipments growth with 5.79 million and 5.84 million units sold, respectively.
  4. Adobe says it will acquire video-collaboration software company Frame.io for $1.275 billion Adobe said Thursday it plans to acquire Frame.io, a company with cloud-based software that enables multiple people to provide input on videos, for $1.275 billion. Adobe shares were unchanged on the news. The move could result in enhancements to the Creative Cloud software where Adobe derives a major part of its revenue. The company has previously bolstered Creative Cloud with acquisitions such as the stock-content marketplace Fotolia and social-media site Behance. Frame.io can boost Adobe’s Premiere Pro and After Effects applications for video editing with review and approval capabilities, Adobe said in a statement. The technology can also be incorporated into the Photoshop editing application, Adobe said. In the most recent quarter, 60% of Adobe’s revenue came from Creative Cloud. Creative Cloud revenue was up about 24% year over year. Adobe has raised the price of Creative Cloud, pointing to enhancements over the years. At the same time, Adobe aims to add Creative Cloud subscribers. Frame was founded in 2014 and is based in New York, with over 250 employees listed on LinkedIn. Investors include Accel, FirstMark Capital, Insight Partners, SignalFire and Shasta Ventures. Frame’s customers include Activision, Google, LinkedIn, Netflix, Turner and Vice, according to the start-up’s website. Adobe expects the deal to close in the fourth quarter of its current fiscal year, which will end around Nov. 30.

  8. Initial release date: July 20, 2021 Developer: Acid Nerve Publisher: Devolver Digital Platforms: Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S, Microsoft Windows Genres: Indie game, Role-playing Video Game, Action-adventure game, Shooter Video Game, Fighting game Beak on through to The Other Side The Old Testament defines to each of us this allotment of years: Three Score and Ten. Still, it doesn’t always work out that way, does it? And while some feel that the dice roll of fate is frequently unfair to us, there are others who are at peace with the unknown, choosing instead to simply take stock in the moment — the here and now — maximizing whatever time they have. After all, life is mostly half-chance, and nobody can truly predict when it’s their personal time to shuffle off the proverbial mortal coil. But what if you could bend the rules? What if bargaining, extension, or outright denial were on the table of finality? If death was an economy, a commodity even, what would it mean for the people, families, and services of the world? More forebodingly, how would society play out should those options be afforded to the ruthless, the greedy, the powerful, and the selfish? These and other dark musings lie among the topics featured in Death’s Door, the new release from British two-man studio Acid Nerve. A blend of morbidity, comedy, and otherworldy curiosity, Death’s Door is Acid Nerve’s attempt to present an engrossing gaming experience — awash with evocative imagery and gallows humor — while also pondering some of society’s most enduring and troubling questions — those of indebted servitude, the class struggle, and the abuse of power — as well as love, life, and, inevitably, death. In Death’s Door, the souls of the dearly departed are gathered and escorted to oblivion by a commission of crows — known as “Reapers.” For these reapers, death is simply a bureaucracy, a dull nine-to-five of long hours, ungrateful superiors, and endless paperwork. Still, old life must end for new life to begin, and as such the reapers are required to help those For Whom the Bell Tolls on their merry way to the afterlife… But somewhere in this centuries-long routine of birth, death, and rebirth, something has gone very wrong. While on a routine assignment to gather their latest soul, a reaper encounters an ancient crow, old beyond his years. This crow informs our protagonist that all is not well in the life of death, linking the drama to the discovery of both a mysterious door and several lands where people and creatures have aged far beyond their allotted lifetimes. What’s more, there are problems at the offices of the Reaping Commission itself. Multiple employees have not returned from their daily assignments, while upper management has been making some suspicious “need-to-know-basis” requests of its workforce. Death has seemingly passed its own expiry date, and now it’s up to our fledgling reaper to put in some overtime, venture into these lands of immortality, and uncover the answers to this mystery of the great beyond. Just be sure to fill out your timesheet, as you’re going to earn far more than a day-in-lieu once this shift is over. Death’s Door is a dungeon-crawling fantasy adventure with a focus on exploration, combat, and rudimentary puzzle-solving. The Legend of Zelda for goths. Players guide our feathered friend through a handful of unique worlds, battling mobs of enemies en route to a series of epic (and creative) boss battles. As they progress through each distinct land, our sword-swinging pal will earn new skills, weapons, and battle abilities — none of which will come as a surprise to anyone well versed in the genre. Additionally, players can trade in gathered souls for stat-boosts, helping our little reaper with their offensive and defensive capabilities, while applying new and powerful effects to their useful array of spells. As the reaper progresses through each world, a tale of greed, corruption, and blind denial begins to unfold. To speak more of it would be to spoil matters, but Death’s Door’s narratively driven adventure is absolutely bursting with personality, despite its meager cast and slight script. It tells a tale that is equally bleak and hopeful, moving and comedic, and welcomes the player into an endearingly dark fantasy universe, while also taking honed satirical shots at numerous real-world themes. Death’s Door is undoubtedly grim in nature — bear this in mind before hitting the start button — but uses dry, sardonic wit to keep its narrative just on the right side of appealing, a testament to its British writers’ wry views on a ghoulish topic. As you may have gathered from the review thus far, Death’s Door is hardly reinventing the wheel. You have your underdog hero with their sword, a selection of well-worn spells and abilities, some upgradeable stats, maze-like dungeons, and pattern-based boss fights. So why all the plaudits? Well, it’s simple. Death’s Door might be somewhat derivative of many adventures that have come before it, but it just does everything that it attempts So. [CENSORED]. Well. From gameplay mechanics such as character control, world traversal, combat, and puzzle-solving, to the aesthetic appeal of its lush, stylistic visuals, evocative and memorable score, and dark, conspiratorial narrative, Death’s Door hits every last mark. The key to its success lies in its own self-awareness: Death’s Door never over-extends its reach. Though an ambitious release, Acid Nerve is well aware of the project’s positives and its negatives, working hard to accentuate the former, while hiding the latter. Death’s Door‘s gallery of grunts is somewhat repetitive, so the title works hard to create mob battles that are varied, intense, and visually exciting. There is no voice acting, so the narrative makes sure that all spoken dialogue is concise, with humor that works better because it is written, rather than spoken. The world’s maps are relatively small, so the developer gives them life via fascinating visuals, dynamic effects, creative design, and atmospheric sounds. Perhaps most crucially of all, Death’s Door as an entire game is wonderfully succinct, lasting just long enough to tell an emotionally resonant and engaging tale, packed full of mystery, action, and personality, winding things up before any one element can outstay its welcome. There is no padding. The story knows exactly when to roll credits (while still offering a little extra questing for those not quite finished enjoying the surreal odyssey). Death’s Door is not wholly original by any means, but is, nevertheless, a masterpiece of video game design. It is a lesson in how to attain the very most out of the very least, and how to learn from your genre contemporaries whilst still stamping your work with a bespoke identity of its very own. Whether in the thick of battle with some grotesque guardian, picking your way through its labyrinthine dungeons, solving its satisfying puzzles, or simply conversing with its cast of tired, world-weary characters, Death’s Door excels — offering adventure, action, intrigue, laughs, and perhaps even a tear or two. That this feat was achieved with little more than the talent, passion, and scope of a two-man studio is the black cherry that sits atop of this particularly gloomy cake. Death’s Door is a dark diamond, destined to stick with me for the remainder of my days… and possibly beyond. An exercise in design excellence, Death’s Door recognizes and capitalizes on its strengths to deliver a smart, creative, and thoroughly engaging adventure, painted with wonderful visual strokes and peppered with witty, thoughtful commentary on life, death, and how we spend the hours in-between. Sporting polish beyond its budget and ambition beyond its scale, Death’s Door is one of the year’s best releases, and a must-play for adventure fans everywhere. Don’t fear the Reaper.
  9. Heaping used tech gadgets into landfills will not solve toxic issue The uptake of retailers offering trade-in options helps to drive the re-commerce market. This approach also supports a more circular supply chain model, rather than a linear one, thus producing less overall waste. Disposing your device is not only harmful to the environment, but it’s also a missed opportunity to make a bit of extra money. As the smartphone becomes a vital necessity for everyday life, users are seeking more reasonable purchasing options, such as buying secondhand devices. Consequently, a thriving device re-commerce market has emerged, with players and platforms that support consumers to sell their unused devices at a greater value than buy-back options from retailers. Keep them in use The market for secondhand devices is growing at both ends. In my experience, the right platform can significantly enhance user experience and financial rewards for both buyers and sellers in the re-commerce space. In the Middle East, the secondhand device marketplace runs on listing websites or social groups. NorthLadder, on the other hand, is an online marketplace that connects customers looking to sell pre-owned electronics and luxury assets to a global network of buyers, also with the option of buying back at a future date. This enables the customer to get the highest prices from an auction, while ensuring that it is a hassle-free process. Let’s not forget it’s not just individuals who possess unused devices. Corporations often collect a bank of pre-used devices, which are essentially depreciating assets. Connecting with an established platform is more beneficial for corporations as it ensures reliable data erasure in line with international standards and removes the hassle of dealing with vendors. In the Middle East, the growth of the electronic re-commerce market has a role to play in supporting national sustainability objectives. In the UAE, for example, a dedicated Circular Economy Council meets to ensure “circularity” to maximize use of resources, and ultimately, create a more resilient country. The re-commerce of electronics helps us to extend the lifespan of devices, and pass them onto users for a new lease on life, thus reducing the e-waste.
  10. Raspberry Pi Game Gear Drop-in Kit Features CM4 Module Gaming and Raspberry Pi projects go together like peanut butter and jelly (or maybe flux and solder). Today we’re excited to share a really cool drop-in kit developed by a maker known as Zarcadeuk called the Zega Mame Gear II. This custom PCB fits snugly inside of an original Game Gear shell and features support for the Raspberry Pi CM4 module. The system is designed to run RetroPie and even has an HDMI out option so users can output video to a larger screen. This is actually an update to a project we featured last year. The previous Game Gear drop-in kit featured a Raspberry Pi 3A+ but this new one is made just for the CM4. Some of the best Raspberry Pi projects repurpose old hardware and, with retro gaming, that’s almost always a big win. The custom PCB is designed to fit neatly inside of an original or reproduction Game Gear shell and requires very little modding. The only physical change necessary is the addition of two buttons and it requires drilling into the shell to make room for them.
  11. iPhone users, Apple wants your ‘help’ in making its software better It has now been about two months since Apple gave a glimpse into what we can expect from the new software updates for its devices. At WWDC 2021, Apple showcased iOS 15, iPadOS 15, watchOS 8, macOS Monterey. Since then the beta versions have been launched and now Apple is looking to expand the beta program. And for that it wants users to try out its software and give feedback in making it better. “The iOS 15, iPadOS 15, macOS Monterey, tvOS 15, and watchOS 8 public betas are now available. As a member of the Apple Beta Software Program, you can help shape Apple software by test-driving pre-release versions and letting us know what you think,” Apple said in an email to those in the beta software program. As a beta tester — you can become one for free — users have the chance to report bugs, experience new features and see what the final public version of the software could look like. As a member of the Apple Beta Software Program, you’ll be able to enroll your devices to access the public betas and try out the latest features. You can provide feedback directly to Apple using the Feedback Assistant app. Do note that beta versions of software may have a lot of bugs and the experience might not be as smooth as expected. “Please note that since the public beta software has not yet been commercially released by Apple, it may contain errors or inaccuracies and may not function as well as commercially released software,” Apple states on its website. Having said that, we have been beta testing iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 for a while now and it has been a rather glitch-free experience. You can read our detailed guide on how to become Apple public beta tester here.
