  2. DS 4 premium hatchback unveiled to challenge Audi A3 The all-new DS 4 has been revealed, along with a bold plan for the French car to straddle two sectors to take on rivals both in the premium hatchback class as well as crossover SUVs. Trading on France’s heritage of haute couture as well as the latest technology, DS hopes the 4 will compete with cars as wide ranging as the BMW 1 Series and the Mercedes GLA. The styling is key to this strategy. Bold double daylight running lights and matrix, LED headlights (standard on all trims) dominate the front end, while the side view features striking creases and up to 20-inch wheels (optional in the UK on the 225 engines) pushed to the extremities of the wheelbase. DS is keen to emphasise the coupe-style lines at the rear of the car, where the boot lid plunges to meet narrow tail lights. In a sign of DS wanting to boost the 4’s premium feel, metallic paint is standard. Three models will be available - a DS 4, DS 4 Cross and DS 4 Premium Line. The Cross features roof bars and black plastic cladding, designed to make it look more like an SUV, while the Premium Line is the top spec and has different wheels, the exterior brightwork is replaced with matt black trim and it also gains Alcantara inside. The sporty one, then. Technological highlights include level 2 semi-autonomous driving, Active Scan Suspension (borrowed from the DS 7 Crossback), and a detailed head-up display showing everything from full navigation instructions to what song is playing. The Active Scan Suspension scans the road ahead, between a distance of 5m and 25m, and alters the suspension making it firmer or softer depending on what’s needed. Night vision is also offered. Available with both plug-in hybrid and conventional ICE engines, a total of five power units will be sold in the UK, all with eight-speed autos: three petrols, a diesel and a PHEV. DS is expecting the latter to make up a high proportion of sales (in the DS 7 Crossback, it’s over 35%), and it’s also the joint-most powerful on offer with 222bhp. Further performance data isn’t available yet. This PHEV version comes with a 12.4kWh battery, located under the boot floor, that’s good for an electric-only range of roughly 30 miles. Because of where the battery is located, the PHEV does lose out slightly on boot space - 390 litres vs 430 litres. The DS 4 rides on a modified EMP2 platform: according to DS, 70% of this has been altered to accommodate the specific requirements of the 4. Particular attention has been paid to both noise isolation and reinforcement around the crash structure. There’s also new electric power steering on this car, while the platform has had to be altered to accommodate the DS’s 20-inch wheels. It is capable of carrying a pure electric model, but at this stage there are no confirmed plans for this. There are two screens on the central dash - the lower DS Smart Touch controls the upper touchscreen, the latter of which runs a system called DS Iris that’s designed to mimic the functions on a mobile phone. Although fan speed and temperature are still done via the touchscreen, the DS 4 does have some physical controls for the heating and ventilation: a series of buttons underneath the upper touchscreen control the defrost, defog, recycling, on/off and quick launch. The latter is a one-touch button to either heat or cool the car automatically, depending on the outside temperature. Prices aren’t available yet, but DS has confirmed that it will be competitive in the sector. As such, expect a starting cost of roughly £25,000.
  3. Covid: Conspiracy theorist barred from hospitals after filming A woman has been barred from several hospitals after filming inside them and posting footage online. Hampshire Constabulary and Sussex Police have issued the 30-year-old from Fareham with a Community Protection Notice (CPN). It means she cannot turn up at the hospitals in those counties without an appointment or medical emergency. The woman had posted videos on social media of empty corridors in hospitals, claiming there was no pandemic. Dorset Police said it was also carrying out an investigation after an incident at Royal Bournemouth Hospital on Sunday evening. It said a woman was "acting suspiciously" and filming inside. 'Unacceptable behaviour' CPNs are used by police as punishment for antisocial behaviour. Breaching them is a criminal offence. The woman was previously issued with a £200 fixed penalty notice by Hampshire Constabulary following posts referring to the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth. It said the posts on Facebook had caused "angst in the community". A spokesman from Hampshire police said: "The CPN is designed to prevent unreasonable behaviour that is having a negative impact on the local community's quality of life." He said it related to a "suspicious incident where an individual attempted to video staff and patients" at the same hospital on Sunday. Other videos relate to St Richard's Hospital in Chichester, West Sussex. Ch Insp Jon Carter of Sussex Police said: "There are a variety of tactics of dealing with this kind of unacceptable behaviour. "We are working together with Hampshire Constabulary to ensure the best avenues to deter this behaviour from continuing are taken." University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust said false information was causing "upset and distress" to staff, after a similar post was uploaded about Southampton General Hospital.

  5. Beat the Bots: Get an HP Omen Desktop With an RTX 3080 for $1,799 It's still almost impossible to buy an RTX 3080 GPU on its own. But that doesn't mean you can't get your hands on them, or even that you need to pay more than MSRP price for one. If you're willing to buy a pre-built PC, you can snag up the best graphics card on the market right now. And thanks to a new deal on the HP Omen 30L Desktop, you can do so in a slick case and with a $200 discount. HP Omen 30L: was $1,999 now $1,799 @ HP with code 10HOLIDAYGAMER2020 The HP Omen 30L is one of the better Ampere pre-builts we've seen thus far, with trustworthy name brand parts and a slick design. It's also got plenty of customizability at checkout, with the discount applying across all optionsVIEW DEAL The HP Omen 30L is HP's new high-end desktop, featuring a new look that we praised for its "improved, attractive design" and more powerful, name brand components than you sometimes see in Ampere pre-built deals. The default build comes with an Intel Core i7-10700K processor, 16GB of HyperX RAM and a 512GB WD Black SSD for $1,999. But there's plenty of upgradeability available at checkout too, including an i9 CPU and high storage and memory capacities. Regardless of your config, you'll still get the $200 discount at checkout. Just apply the code 10HOLIDAYGAMER2020 and you'll be good to go. The only downside here is that shipping is estimated to start on March 3rd, so you might have to wait a month to get your order. But considering RTX 3080 availability, a month is still sooner than you'll see elsewhere.
  6. Why maintaining software is like updating War & Peace Imagine your boss calls you next Monday morning. "Listen, about that War and Peace novel. It isn’t doing so good. We’ve had some customer feedback, and the problem seems to be that Pierre Bezuhkov character. The readers think he’s so full of empathy that he’s totally unbelievable. So Jones, I want you to take the character and make him a bit less empathetic." This sounds like an easy and reasonable request. After all, the royalties help pay your salary. But you soon realise that you need to look at every paragraph where Pierre appears, making some changes to what he says and what he does in each. After you finish that trawl through the book, you realise that his altered behavior will affect every character he interacts with differently. Consequently, you will have to identify each character he talks to or interacts with, and alter those characters’ behaviors, in line with the effects of Pierre’s new persona. In fact, the cumulative impact of all these changes might alter the nature of the book. You may have to make more revisions to preserve the book’s "perseverance-of-good-through-extreme-conditions" message, rather than one where bickering squabbles lead to the absolute dissolution of society. From RTÉ Radio 1's Morning Ireland, Cian McCormack reports that lots of the HSE's technology systems are out of date These are the sort of issues that software maintainers face every day. Users notice a problem in their software systems, and request a change. Think, for example, of the HSE's Covid-19 app where user reviews suggested that the app should be updated to notify users to submit their health status daily. As a result of that request the development team manager would then probably approach the software maintainer with a small, seemingly innocuous change. But software is not structured function-by-function and the code to be changed may be delocalised throughout the system. Because the code that makes up a software system is typically so interdependent on itself, there will probably be lots of unanticipated and subtle side-effects, which the software developer will have to identify and address. Additionally, source code has several other characteristics that make life even more challenging and miserable: - War and Peace consists of 587,287 words, depending on the language/translation you prefer. But software systems are typically many times larger – often tens of millions of sentences long in fact. Finding the appropriate bits to change can be even more challenging than the search that our poor book editor had to endure.

  9. Count on these 5 simple tips to control high blood pressure Blood pressure is the force at which the heart uses to pump blood to the various body parts. Normal adult blood pressure is defined as a systolic blood pressure of 120 mm Hg, and diastolic blood pressure of 80 mm Hg. The systolic pressure value indicates the pressure in the arteries when the heart beats. The diastolic pressure value, on the other hand, denotes the pressure in the arteries between the heart beats. Hence, it is extremely important to take adequate preventive steps to avoid any fluctuations in blood pressure which can lead to various health conditions. To help you with the same, we have nutritionist Munmun Garewal’s guide to tackling high blood pressure. In an Instagram post, she shared five tips to control blood pressure and stay healthy. Eat the right kind of salt Use unrefined salt (Himalayan pink salt)/black salt/rock salt for the excellent balance of sodium and potassium that it provides. White, iodised salt gives only sodium, and no potassium. Avoid packaged, processed, and industrialised foods They reduce our body’s ability to absorb and assimilate nutrients. These foods affect the sodium:potassium ratio and the water balance, which in turn has a negative effect on blood pressure. Have homemade pickles and papads Traditional homemade pickles have just the right strain of live bacteria that can play an important role in lowering blood pressure. Similarly, papad has its own benefits. They are made with various lentils/dals (usually protein-rich) and a range of spices such as black pepper and cumin. The spices add a therapeutic quality to the papads.
  10. Mini to ditch leather from its future interiors Last year, 54% of new Minis ordered in the UK featured real leather. According to Heilmer, the lack of leather is a key consideration in making Minis as sustainable as possible. “We don’t need leather any more in the future, because we don’t believe it’s sustainable," he said. "We're totally convinced that we will have modern and high-value products without leather.” An absence of hide isn’t the only area that Mini has been working on. Heilmer told Autocar: “The fabric in the production seats is now 100% recycled. The lining underneath is 70% recycled. We're looking to create a timeless design. A one-season design, like fashion, isn't our aim with the design of future Minis. “It’s inventive simplicity. Materials will be recycled, but they're luxurious at the same time. And inventive in terms of function. For instance, we used cork in the Urbanaut [concept]. The aesthetics will be coming more from a home perspective, rather than an automotive one.” Despite this forward-looking agenda, Heilmer will continue to study Mini in relation to its heritage. The proportions are one of the most important aspects for him - “creating the smallest footprint for each of our products is a driver” - as well as the little design elements that make a Mini the Mini. He explained: “We ask questions like 'is there still a toggle switch in the future?' because you love to use it. We need to do the basics right but then add the magical Mini touch over that.” Heilmer is convinced that a Mini “should be fun as well". He said: "It’s not pure driving performance that we’re talking about, but it’s the ease of use, the ease of driving, that I believe will last.” Hot John Cooper Works versions of Mini models will remain part of the line-up and, as a self-confessed petrolhead, Heilmer is keen that these retain their focused handling characteristics. He said: “I personally believe that there will still be an emotional connection that we have to keep for our hardcore fans in order to have those John Cooper Works pinnacle products that are purely for driving pleasure.”
  11. Myanmar coup: Calls for Aung San Suu Kyi release Calls are growing for the release of Myanmar's Aung San Suu Kyi a day after the army seized power in the south-east Asian nation. Ms Suu Kyi, who led the country's elected government, has not been seen since she was detained by the military. MPs who were confined in their accommodation in the capital, Nay Pyi Taw, have now been told they can leave. But there are signs of defiance, including a medical staff strike and pot-banging in the main city Yangon. The military took power in the early hours of Monday and declared a year-long state of emergency after accusing Ms Suu Kyi's party of fraud over its recent election win. All you need to know about the coup Her National League for Democracy (NLD) demanded her immediate release on Tuesday. It has also called upon the military to accept the results of the November election, which saw the NLD win more than 80% of the votes. Myanmar, also known as Burma, was ruled by the armed forces until 2011, when a nominally civilian government was sworn in. Map of Myanmar Presentational white space What is happening now in Myanmar? The morning after the coup, the country remained calm. Streets were quiet, with troops patrolling all major cities and a night-time curfew in force. The communications systems which had been disrupted on Monday had returned by Tuesday morning, with phone and internet connections running again. Growing up under Myanmar's military rule Military coup likely to damage Myanmar's economy Myanmar's coup: Why now - and what's next? But as night fell on Tuesday, car horns and the banging of cooking pots could be heard in the streets of Yangon in a sign of protest. A campaign of civil disobedience appeared to be gathering steam with doctors working in government hospitals saying they would stop work from Wednesday to push for Ms Suu Kyi's release. Some medics are resorting to wearing symbols in silent protest.
  12. Genshin Impact's 1.3 Update Drops This Week: Patch Notes Genshin Impact's next big update is almost here, with a new event set to bring heaps of new content to the game. Most anticipated among the game's fanbase is the arrival of Xiao as a playable character, an anemo polearm-wielding character first introduced in Liyue's archon quests. The update will take place on February 2 at 5 PM ET, with the servers anticipated to go down for around 5 hours for the update. Most of the new content, including Xiao's banner, the new weapon banner, Xiao's story quest, and the Lantern Rite festival will be live as soon as the maintenance is over. The 4-star rate-up characters included on Xiao's banner have also been announced, including cryo archer Diona, electro claymore-wielder Beidou, and pyro claymore character Xinyan. The banner will be shorter than most of Genshin Impact's event banners have been so far, running only two weeks until February 17. After that, a new banner with 5-star electro sword character Keqing will be released, marking the first time a standard 5-star character will have been featured on a rate-up event banner. The 4-star rate up characters on Keqing's banner will be geo catalyst user Ningguang, hydro catalyst healer Barbara, and pyro sword user Bennett--one of the game's most po[CENSORED]r 4-star characters. With Xiao acting as one of the pivotal characters in the Lantern Rite event, players will have to complete his story quest before participating in any of the event's many quests and challenges. Accordingly, the "Alatus Chapter" story quest will be accessible to players over AR 23 for the duration of the event, and will not require a story key to unlock. After the event the quest will require a key, and the minimum level will be raised to AR 40. You can check out more details about the Lantern Rite event here. The new update comes with a heap of new rewards spread out over the next month and a bit, including generous amounts of wishes and primogems for players looking to snag a new 5-star character or two, as well as a new source of fragile resin in the battle pass. The update notice also make note of more content to come, including "more character event wishes to follow during Version 1.3." With the currently announced character banners only accounting for four weeks of the game's usual six-week update cycle, it's likely Mihoyo will release another banner for the final two weeks that may feature as-yet unannounced characters.
  13. Raspberry Pi Pico Powered Open Source E-Book Reader The Open Book Project from Joey Castillo is an amazing piece of work, a DIY open source e-book designed so that anyone can solder up their own reader. The project has been with us for some time, and the past version has been based upon a SAMD51 processor commonly found in newer Arduino boards and Adafruit Feather boards. But in a recent tweet, Castillo has unveiled an early render of a version based around the $4 Raspberry Pi Pico. The Open Book Project The first thing to hit you is just how detailed the PCB is for the Open Book Abridged Edition. The silkscreen printing of the PCB tells us about each component, the GPIO pins used on the Raspberry Pi Pico, and more about the project itself. Featuring a 4.2-inch e-paper display, micro SD card storage, and a built-in battery charging solution, the Open Book Abridged Edition has space at the top of the board for the Raspberry Pi Pico. This space is designed for use with the Pico's castellated edges, enabling it to be soldered directly to the PCB with no need for header pins. Is this just an e-book reader? Chiefly yes, but the Open Book can be used with external components that use the I2C and STEMMA connector, so it can also be used as a display for sensor-based projects. i've designed so many versions of the open book now, one could call it an obsession. I'm chasing something — a buildable, grokkable, accessible, useful gadget — yet the more I learn, the more I can see where each attempt has fallen short. so. let's see how this one falls short There are no details on price or availability for the Raspberry Pi Pico version, but previous versions of the board retail for $15 on Tindie, of course, we then need to source our own components
  14. Worldwide Video Interviewing Software Industry to 2027 - Increasing COVID-19 Restrictions is Driving Growth To help organizations make better business choices, high-quality analytics systems have been applied to consumer data. Big data care is increasingly generated by applicant details, so recruiters can find the best candidates for the job quickly and easily. Industrialization is increasing in APAC, and it is expected to continue in the coming years. Thus, considering the growth of large enterprises and SMEs in APAC, the video interviewing software market is anticipated to witness significant demand for video interviewing software during the forecast period. The video interviewing software market is segmented on the basis of type, enterprise size, and geography. Geographically, North America held the largest share of the market in 2019, followed by Europe and Asia Pacific. Further, Asia Pacific is projected to register the highest growth rate during the forecast period. Based on type, the market is bifurcated into web-based and mobile apps. The web-based segment is expected to represent a larger share of the overall market during the forecast period. Based on enterprise size, the market is bifurcated into SMEs and large enterprises. In 2019, the large enterprises segment accounted for a substantial share in the global video interviewing software market. Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic on Video Interviewing Software Market The COVID-19 outbreak was first reported in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. As per the WHO figures on August 9, 2020, ~19.46 million COVID-19 cases have been diagnosed and ~722,285 deaths have been reported across the world. The outbreak is adversely affecting economies and industries in various countries due to lockdowns, travel bans, and business shutdowns. The global information and communication technology (ICT) industry is one of the major industries suffering serious disruptions such as supply chain breaks, technology events cancellations, and office shutdowns. For instance, China is the global manufacturing hub and the largest raw material supplier for various industries, and it is also one of the worst-affected countries. The lockdown of various plants and factories in China is restricting the global supply chains and hindering manufacturing activities, delivery schedules, and various electronic goods sales. The Mobile World Congress scheduled to take place in Barcelona during February, 24-27 was canceled due to the pandemic. Companies such as Apple and Microsoft have already announced possible delays in product deliveries and slump in future sales of their products. In addition, global travel bans imposed by countries in Europe, Asia, and North America are restricting business collaboration and partnership opportunities. 17. Xbox Games With Gold For February 2021: First Batch Available Now Instead of its usual four free games per month, Microsoft is giving away five freebies in February for Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members. The first few free games can be claimed now, a day earlier than they were scheduled to be made free. Those with an active subscription will be able to claim the excellent Gears 5 along with Resident Evil, Dandara: Trials of Fear Edition, Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb, and Lost Planet 2. As always, all of these games can be played on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. A few should also work on Xbox 360. Now Playing: Gears 5 Video Review Initially, the news was bittersweet, as Microsoft announced a price increase for Xbox Live Gold. However, this was reversed just hours later, with free-to-play games on the consoles now no longer requiring an Xbox Live Gold subscription to access multiplayer, either. It ended up working out pretty well! Set after the events of Gears 4 and featuring Kait Diaz in the lead role, Gears 5 is a horror-inspired entry in the series that digs deeper into the mysterious origins of the Locusts as well as the role humanity played in the conflict. Its excellent campaign is complemented by a beefy competitive multiplayer mode and several cooperative offerings, including Horde mode. It experiments in its storytelling more than its predecessor, as The Coalition is clearly getting more comfortable leading the franchise. If Gears 4 felt like more of the same to you, this is very different. Resident Evil is a great choice for February, seeing as it's only a few months before we get Resident Evil Village, and the version included with Games With Gold is the remaster from a few years back. It's a tense and smaller-scale game than some of its successors, but it emphasizes classic horror over action for a less mindless experience. It also introduces us to some of the series' best characters like Jill and Chris. Dandara: Trials of Fear Edition may not be a household name, but the pixel art action game is an acclaimed and mysterious adventure that has elements of Metroidvania games. If you like Celeste, the chances are pretty high that you're going to like Dandara, as well, and there's even more focus on the narrative in this version. GameSpot Report & Deals Newsletters Get the latest gaming news, reviews, and deals sent to your inbox, FREE! Email Address Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb was released way back on the original Xbox, taking place in China during the '30s in a classic action-adventure that also includes a trip to Istanbul. You'll have access to Indiana's classic equipment, including his whip, and there's also a hand-to-hand combat system so you can lay down the smack. Lost Planet 2 is the last freebie of the month. Capcom's sequel takes you out of the frozen hellscape of the original and into something a little warmer. However, it retains the first game's excellent blend of exploration and third-person combat, and it's generally considered to be superior to the third game, which released three years later.
  18. Discussion: Has Samsung actually gotten good at software updates? you’ve been keeping watch these past few months, you’d have noticed that Samsung has been slaying it with its software updates. Besides working relentlessly to roll out the latest Android 11-based One UI 3.0 update to a wide range of flagships and flagship-killers, Samsung has also rewarded several mid-range devices with a similar treatment. Along with this commendable promptness, the brand also deserves our appreciation for updating mid-rangers that other brands often forget. So, in this edition of our weekly Discussion series, we ask you if you think Samsung is leading the way among Android manufacturers when it comes to software updates? Here’s when your Samsung Galaxy phone may get the One UI 3.0 (Android 11) update While Samsung appears to be at the top of its game, the condition was certainly much different a few years ago. Ironic to the brand’s global reputation, Samsung also earned the blame for delaying software updates, limiting key updates — such as Android version incremental updates — to its flagship devices, and offering a cluttered user experience with its TouchWiz user interface that was later refreshed as Samsung Experience. Samsung addressed complaints about the poor UX by majorly overhauling it with the first One UI update back in 2018. Not just that, the frequency and the availability of the latest updates have also improved majorly in the last few years. Samsung started floating the first One UI 3.0 beta in October 2020 and subsequently started rolling out stable updates in December 2020, starting with the Galaxy S20 series on Verizon. Since then, a slew of devices has received the stable One UI 3.0 updates. The list includes: Galaxy S10 series Galaxy S20 series Galaxy Note 20 series Galaxy Note 10 series Galaxy Fold and Z Fold 2 Galaxy Z Flip 4G and Galaxy Z Flip 5G Galaxy S10 Lite Galaxy S20 FE Galaxy M31 Galaxy Note 10 Lite, Galaxy M21, and Galaxy F41 Aside from these devices, Samsung’s latest Galaxy S21 series comes pre-loaded with One UI 3.1, which brings a few extra features such as the improved Google Home Device controls. The Galaxy Tab S7 has also been updated with One UI 3.1 with a set of features to enhance collaboration and productivity. Despite this promptness, however, Samsung still lags in one area and that is support for Seamless Updates on Android. The feature was introduced with Android Nougat, and it allows new updates to install in the background while the phone is still being used. While updates may normally take only a few minutes to install, we cannot deny that saving that time is also a bonus, especially in an age where we are constantly dependent on our phones. Until Google does not make Seamless Updates mandatory for manufacturers, we can expect Samsung to its own sweet time.
