  5. Hello Ladies and Gentlemen, Welcome to CsBlackDevil.Com Daily News! Read Up Next: A giant salamander that once lived in the London Zoo and was later on display at the Natural History Museum represents a new species that may be the world's largest amphibian. This finding is part of a larger discovery about the diversity of Chinese giant salamanders, separating what was once thought of as a single species into three distinct species. A study detailing the new species was published Monday in the journal Ecology and Evolution. Giant salamanders once lived across central, southern and eastern China. The species Andrias davidianus, known as the Chinese giant salamander, reach a length of 3.7 feet and 110 pounds. Now, the wild po[CENSORED]tions are critically depleted. Learning more about them could help to save the salamanders, the researchers said. Researchers studied 17 specimens from museums and tissue samples from wild salamanders. That's when they met Andria sligoi, the South China giant salamander, for the first time -- even though the specimen had resided in a museum for 74 years. During the 1920s and '30s, when the salamander was still alive, it lived at the Zoological Society of London's Zoo for 20 years. At the time, it was deemed an unusual salamander, but the idea was dropped. The new study confirms it's different from other salamanders and represents the world's biggest amphibian that can grow to nearly six feet in length. That makes it larger than around 8,000 amphibians on the planet today. A wild Chinese giant salamander. Their research also divides the single species of giant salamanders into three: davidianus, sligoi and a third species that hasn't been named yet. The third species is known only from tissue samples. Each species was found to be unique to a different river system or mountain range in China and they were very different from each other genetically. "Our analysis reveals that Chinese giant salamander species diverged between 3.1 and 2.4 million years ago," said Samuel Turvey, lead study author at the Zoological Society of London's Institute of Zoology. "These dates correspond to a period of mountain formation in China as the Tibetan Plateau rose rapidly, which could have isolated giant salamander po[CENSORED]tions and led to the evolution of distinct species in different landscapes." "The decline in wild Chinese giant salamander numbers has been catastrophic, mainly due to recent overexploitation for food," Turvey said. "We hope that this new understanding of their species diversity has arrived in time to support their successful conservation, but urgent measures are required to protect any viable giant salamander po[CENSORED]tions that might remain." The Chinese giant salamander has been listed as Critically Endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Farming and overexploitation have resulted in the salamanders being found at only four of 97 sites across China. The salamanders are often moved to stock farms as well as for conservation reasons. "Conservation plans must now be updated to recognize the existence of multiple giant salamander species, and movement of these animals should be prohibited to reduce the risk of disease transfer, competition and genetic hybridization," Turvey said. The London Zoo is home to four giant salamanders that were seized after someone tried to import them illegally in 2016. "These findings come at a time where urgent interventions are required to save Chinese giant salamanders in the wild," said Melissa Marr, study author and PhD researcher at the Natural History Museum in London. "Our results indicate that tailored conservation measures should be put in place that preserve the genetic integrity of each distinct species." 9. Hello Ladies And Gentlemen and welcome in CsBlackDevil.com Daily News! Read Up Next The Most Famous Ric Ocasek, lead singer of the new wave rock band The Cars, died Sunday in New York City, police said. He was 75. The New York Police Department received a call around 4 p.m. "for an unconscious male" at a townhouse on East 19th Street, the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Public Information told CNN. Ocasek, whose identity was confirmed by police, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Cars became hugely po[CENSORED]r in the late 1970s and early 80s with hits including "My Best Friend's Girl" and "Drive." The Cars were a mainstay of MTV in its early days. Their video for "Double Life" was the 21st video ever played on the new cable channel, according to VH1. Ocasek married supermodel Paulina Porizkova after the two met while shooting the video for 1984's "Drive." The couple last year announced their separation. They had two children together. He was known for his mop of black hair and black sunglasses, which featured in many of the band's videos, including "You Might Think" in 1984. Ocasek and The Cars were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2018. "(T)he Cars were the ultimate New Wave dream machine: a hook-savvy super-charged quintet that fused 60s pop, 70s glam and avant-rock minimalism into a decade of dashboard-radio nirvana," the band's biography reads on the Hall of Fame website. The band had 13 Top 40 singles and four Top 10 LPs, according to the biography. Ocasek founded the group in 1976, the biography said. " A demo tape of one of the band's first songs, "Just What I Needed," was so po[CENSORED]r on two Boston radio stations that the band caught the attention of record companies, according to a Contemporary Musicians biography." Ocasek was the band's main song writer and also played rhythm guitar. The band broke up in 1988, but Ocasek went on to make solo albums, the biography said. "In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine ahead of the band's induction into the Hall of Fame, Ocasek described playing there as "a good cap on the bottle" after so many years." "It's kind of weird because it's like a lifetime," Ocasek told the magazine, looking back at the history of The Cars. "It is a lifetime. I had three families during that time. They are like lives that go by and millions of people and things and artists and writers and business people and fans. ... It's a lot of stuff. It's been a pretty eventful life, I can say." As news of Ocasek's death spread, several musicians and other celebrities posted tributes to the fallen rocker. Musician Billy Idol said in a tweet he was sorry to hear the news. Bellow we will read the reactions of Ocasek's Death from Musicians Twitter's posts!!! Rest in peace. — Peter Frampton (@peterframpton) September 16, 2019 Gun N' Roses guitarist Slash posted a photo of Ocasek during a performance. Rainn Wilson, star of "The Office," also tweeted his condolences, saying he was "stunned and saddened." 14. Hello Ladies and Gentlemen and welcome in CsBlackDevil.Com Today's News Read Up Next: Sweden Island: The four-story villas are being positioned as ultra-high end second homes, with the first villa completed in August 2018. Sweden Island will also feature a floating restaurant. Four kilometers off the Dubai coastline lies Europe. Or a version of it, at least. Comprising six man-made islands styled after a mix of European countries and cities, when completed this $5 billion megaproject will be able to accommodate 16,000 tourists in the height of travel luxury. In this Europe the sun nearly always shines, the ocean's warm and white sands are never far away. There's Venice and St Petersburg, Sweden, Germany, Switzerland and more. And, if you have the money, it could be yours for a vacation or a lifetime. Called The Heart of Europe and currently under construction, it's the latest chapter in one of Dubai's grandest -- and most eyebrow-raising -- enterprises: The World. The six-island resort The Heart of Europe, pictured in construction last year. Construction of The World began in 2003. A huge archipelago of 300 artificial islands in the shape of a world map, it was pitched as a playground for the rich and famous. To make the islands, 34 billion tonnes of large rocks and 320 million cubic meters of sand were deposited in the sea over millions of square feet. So vast was the project, astronauts were able to track its progress from space. The archipelago was completed on the eve of the global financial crash in 2008 and as a result The World -- with very few exceptions -- remained undeveloped for many years. The project has been labeled a "spectacular white elephant()." But against all odds, one corner -- The Heart of Europe -- is readying itself for guests. A $5 billion mega-project Construction cranes line the Dubai skyline as the city rapidly builds ahead of World Expo 2020. While residential real estate prices have declined since 2014, demand is expected to pick up at the start of the expo, according to John Lyons, head of sales and leasing at Dubai real estate agency ESPACE. Kleindienst, the developers behind The Heart of Europe, seek to capitalize on this: " A "palace" on Sweden Island, seen from the air. " The Heart of Europe covers 13 hotels and resorts and more than 4,000 holiday homes. Featuring climate-controlled streets and underwater bedrooms, the complex spans six million square feet and will be able to accommodate up to 16,000 people at any one time when completed, say Kleindienst. The first phase of construction includes 10 waterfront "palaces" on Sweden Island, 32 villas on Germany Island and 78 floating homes dubbed "Floating Seahorses" surrounding St Petersburg Island. " The heart-shaped St Petersburg Island. " On land, one Swedish "palace" is already finished, with Scandi-influenced design throughout and a roof shaped like an upturned Viking ship. The other nine are 70% completed, say Kleindienst. The heart-shaped, honeymoon-themed St Petersburg is fully formed and Germany's Bauhaus-inspired villas are also taking shape. The first Floating Seahorse - Signature Edition (a larger model) has been recently completed and another 20 standard models are in construction. " A Floating Seahorse, a under-over water villa first unveiled in 2015. " Handover of properties begins this year and will be completed in 2020, say Kleindienst. The developer is targeting second-home buyers and says it has already sold 85% of its units, with 70% of buyers from the UAE and wider Gulf Cooperation Council nations. Chairman Josef Kleindienst said The Heart of Europe aims to be a "staycation" destination. "We want to be such a place where people from Dubai and from the UAE are attracted to spend their own vacation here in their own country," he told CNN. Although he added "we want to attract tourists from all over the place." All 10 properties on Sweden have already been sold, the Austrian businessman told local news last year -- eight to billionaires from the Middle East and another two to billionaires from Europe -- as well as every villa on Germany Island. " A rendering of what St Petersburg Island will look like when finished. " A new plot on the tourist map Kleindienst says phase two consists of two holiday resorts on "Main Europe" -- a mixed themed island -- inspired by Portofino, Italy and the Cote d'Azur in France, scheduled for completion in 2019 and 2020 respectively. Among the attractions will be artificial coral reefs for diving and snorkeling, created by Kleindienst's Marine Life Sciences Center, based on the archipelago. "The main goal is to create a vibrant, diverse and sustainable marine habitat," Adrian Evans, a marine biologist at the center, told CNN. The developers say the center is growing an additional 100,000 corals a year. For those who prefer to stay dry, the Floating Seahorses allow visitors to watch marine life from their underwater bedrooms and bathrooms. " How Kleindienst imagine The Floating Venice will appear. " If Kleindienst's project proceeds as planned, there will also be a slew of underwater rooms throughout The Floating Venice, another of the themed complexes planned for The Heart of Europe. That is considered part of phase three of the development, along with chalets on Switzerland Island and nine other hotels on Main Europe. " An underwater cabin planned for The Floating Venice. " Richard Thompson, editor for Middle East Economic Digest, told CNN he's witnessing a shift in tourism demands. "People are looking for experiences, they're no longer looking to have a bit of luxury on a beach," he said. "They want to have an adventure, they want to have something for their social media pages, they want something unique that helps them as individuals develop their own life story." The wider World So what of the rest of The World? Almost all its islands remain undeveloped, but there are rumblings that holiday destinations could soon pop up elsewhere. Close to The Heart of Europe, Lebanon Island has been operating as a small private beach club, but is currently for sale. Allsopp & Allsopp, the real estate agency in charge of the sale, told CNN that a hotel group is currently interested in buying the property with a mind to building an eco-friendly resort. Meanwhile Seven Tides, owners of a swathe of South America, said via its communications representatives that it plans to build resorts on two islands in the south of the archipelago, with more details to be released in March. 19. Hello Ladies and Gentlemen! Welcome To CsBlackDevil's Todays News Read Up Next Driving through the beautiful, winding country lanes of Georgia's remote, western Imereti region is an immensely pleasurable travel experience -- but not one you'd immediately associate with religious experiences. Until, that is, you pass a hidden lane signposted with a picture of a church. This is the way to the Katskhi pillar -- a natural limestone monolith that towers more than 130 feet, or 40 meters, into the air and on top of which stands what is probably the world's most isolated, and most sacred, churches. Situated approximately 200 kilometers (about 125 miles) west of Georgia's capital city Tbilisi, this remarkable landmark is notoriously difficult to reach. There are no trains in this part of the region, so the only way to get there is by car or bus, but it's worth the trek. The final approach is done on foot, a 20-minute hike during which the monolith appears suddenly on the horizon of the vivid Georgian landscape. It's a magical experience that only intensifies as you draw closer to the pillar itself. A steep climb up some half-finished steps is a sign that visitors are almost there. At the base of the pillar, a monastery and a small chapel come into view on the right-hand side. To the left stands the 130-foot tall limestone column in all its mesmerizing glory. Wine cellar The Katskhi complex is unique. Atop the column is a church built in the 6th to 8th centuries dedicated to Maximus the Confessor, a 7th century monk. There's also a burial chamber, a wine cellar, a curtain wall and three hermit cells. Each day, monks living below make the nerve-jangling 20-minute ascent via a thin metal ladder bolted to the side of the rock. The daily pilgrimage to say prayers at the top is said to bring them closer to God. Until 2015, they'd also encounter Father Maxime Qavtaradze, who spent most of his time there for 20 years and was the last monk to live on top. Qavtarade built a new church on the rock in 1995. Beneath the column or rock stands the newly constructed church of Simeon Stylites, the monastery and the ruins of an old wall and belfry. Today, the pillar is still celebrated for being one of the most sacred landmarks on Earth. Local monks are now the only people on the planet who are allowed to take the 20-minute climb up the steel ladder on the side of the column to the very top. Climbing from the monastery positioned below to the church above is a daily pilgrimage they believe is the best way to offer themselves to God. Strict rules Only men from a religious order are now allowed to climb the stairway to the heavens. Women have not been allowed to scale the column at any point in history. The head of the monastery, Leader Ilarion, tells CNN Travel that since 2018, the public have been banned from scaling the pillar to visit the church on top by an edict from Patriarch Ilia II, the spiritual leader of the Georgian Orthodox Church. "The Patriarch passed an order stating that only the monks can enter the church at the top of the pillar. Until he overturns that order, we are not allowed to let any visitors up," Ilarion says. Though they're now among those banned from the top, residents are proud of their local landmark, venerated the world over as a "pillar of life" and "a symbol of the true cross." Local George Tsertsvadze says the restrictions will help preserve Katskhi's sanctity. "Only religious people can go up and we respect that decision," he tells CNN Travel. "It's partly to protect the buildings, but also to ensure that the site remains holy." The pillar itself remained unclimbed by anyone from outside Katskhi until 1944, when an expedition led by Georgian mountaineer Alexander Japaridze and writer Levan Gotua headed to the top for a more comprehensive study. At that time the buildings on top of the pillar were thought to have been constructed in the 5th to 6th centuries, but that estimate was later revised to the 9th and 10th centuries by the Georgian National Museum. Forbidden journey "There are many wrong histories circulating about the pillar, so it's important that people hear the correct story," Ilarion says. "The first monks began living in the church in the 10th and 11th centuries, and they lived up on top of the pillar. There are no monks living up there today, we only go up to pray then return to the monastery below," he adds. Although climbing to the top of the pillar is now forbidden, there's still plenty to see within the Katskhi complex. The monastery building and the surrounding complex was restored by a state-funded program in 2009 and works continue today to allow visitors an experience close to what existed more than 1,000 years ago. A new visitor center is also in the works, along with a small souvenir shop. It's still possible to climb up to the pillar's first level, which holds a prayer area and a 6th century cross marked into the limestone -- one of the earliest examples of Christian symbolism in existence today. There's also space to light a candle and pray into an enclosure carved into the rocks. "The site was first recognized as Christian in the 6th century when the base of the pillar was marked with a cross," Ilarion says. "The church was added later and, despite its age, the complex is fully operational today." The church of Simeon Stylites, a small quaint chapel adorned with decorative art and religious artifacts, stands at ground level. The quiet and peaceful building is open for visitors to pray. Inside is a collection of stunning fresco paintings, with a tiny altar and prayer space with room to light a candle. On leaving the chapel, visitors get an awe-inspiring vista of the gorgeous Georgian countryside with the pillar positioned to the right. Also visible in the distance, through a gate to the right of the chapel, is the monastery itself. The building being off-limits to the public, but Ilarion and the other monks happily walk around the complex talking to visitors and imparting their wisdom to all who listen. Getting there There are two main travel routes to take to reach the Katskhi pillar. From Tbilisi Catching a bus from Tbilisi's Didube bus station to Chiatura takes between three and three-and-a-half hours. Although there are no official websites for the national buses and/or marshrutkas in Georgia, buses tend to run every hour between 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. each day. Once in Chiatura, a local taxis drive directly to the Katskhi pillar. From Batumi Buses run hourly from Batumi to Kutaisi from 7 a.m., and the journey takes just over two hours. Once in Kutaisi, passengers can take another bus for a one-hour ride to Chiatura. Drivers will stop directly outside the entrance to the pillar complex en route.
