One insider has revealed that GTA 6 is currently in development, however, fans might have to wait longer than they anticipated. The news front on Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently very scarce, with very little known about the project or whether it will be coming anytime soon. GTA 5 continues to be an extremely profitable game for Rockstar. GTA Online being amongst the most po[CENSORED]r multiplayer experiences to date. Although there was a potential GTA 6 teaser discovered in a recent trailer Rockstar is being very tight-lipped on how rumored progress on the next installment is going. According to one prominent insider, GTA 6 is currently being developed, however, it is nowhere near ready. GTA 6 Development Details GTA 6 has been rumored to be in development for some time. One insider named Yan2295 has been able to confidently state that this is the case. The game, rumored to be in development for PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC has not made any appearances yet despite much excitement and anticipation from fans. According to Yan2295, GTA 6 is currently under development. The game, however, is a very long way off, Yan notes on Twitter regarding GTA 6: As is often the case, any details regarding games currently in development are scarce and vague. The Rockstar Games insider confirmed that GTA 6 is under development, however, Yan also implies that any news is likely a very long way off. After all, right now Rockstar is currently focusing on the 'expanded and enhanced' version of Grand Theft Auto V for Playstation 5 It seems unlikely that we are going to see GTA 6 in 2021, considering GTA 5's remaster will be coming in the second half of this year. It wouldn't make financial sense to release a trailer for GTA 6 amidst GTA V's re-release. Grand Theft Auto 6 Future Release We wouldn't hold out hope for a release date anytime soon. GTA 6 is likely going to take some time, and by that, we mean a very long time. That doesn't mean that you can't get excited about the game. There are still many frequent updates for GTA: Online. The latest update is the New Years Update, which adds more freebies to the ever-growing multiplayer experience. The Cayo Perico heist is also available, which finally caters to solo players. If you haven't checked out the latest content update, give it a go. The update tasks the player with taking out an infamous drug leader "El Rubio". It's important to recognize that potential leaks and insider information should always be taken with a pinch of salt. Although GTA 6 is currently in development, we still don't really have that much information about the game. Unfortunately, this insider leak is limited in what it can tell us about GTA 6. We can gleam that GTA 6 is a long way off being ready for release, but we can be sure when it is ready it will be a groundbreaking game in the Grand Theft Auto series.

Late last year, there was a right old rumpus over how much more energy is needed to make an EV than an ICE car and how much more CO2 is thus pumped into the atmosphere. A study, backed by a variety of car makers and suppliers, estimated the manufacturing differential required an EV to be driven 48,000 miles before it offset the greater energy used in making it. Prominent EV analyst Auke Hoekstra went back through the figures, calculating everything from manufacturing efficiency to the mix of green energy available, and estimated it to be closer to 16,000 miles. The car makers – Aston Martin in particular, due to some uncomfortably close links to the source of the report – copped it from every direction, tarred as legacy companies trying to talk down electrification. The Guardian – never a fan of engines – even featured the story on its front page. It wasn’t a great look for anyone involved, but the brouhaha it created risked masking the one point of agreement that is worthy of consideration: making an EV does produce more CO2 (which, remember, is just one measure of pollution) than making an ICE car. The only way to offset this is to drive them, and in turn how quickly the offset can be achieved is dependent on how the electricity being put into them is produced. The initial deficit sits almost entirely with the energy requirements of making a battery. Figures from Volkswagen suggest that around 40% of the CO2 output from EV production is created here – more than twice the amount that comes from the next most intensive processes, making steel (18%), aluminium (6%) and the electric motor (5%), with the rest coming from the creation of everything from plastics to glass. Car makers are, of course, working to bring this down, pressured by international net-zero goals. So it is that they want green energy to be used at every step, their factories to be more efficient and more. There’s no choice, but there’s also no doubt that this holistic approach will need time and massive investment to implement. For what it’s worth, by my estimation, 16,000 miles looks like the best-case scenario and 48,000 the worst-case scenario. But the debate rumbles on, and the truth is the figure will keep changing according to extraction techniques, manufacturing methods, energy sources and more. Maybe, then, the fairest conclusion is this: the average life of a car is eight years and 150,000 miles. Maybe that will reduce if we drive less, but so too will the energy requirements of making and fuelling EVs. From a CO2 point of view, then, EVs win out.

The fast pace of our lives has been disrupted by the unprecedented pandemic that broke out early into the year. The heartening thing, however, has been the global cooperation and resilience that has helped in a good bit of recovery and a lot of progress on developing a vaccine for the pandemic. Having said that, it is undeniable that the chaotic scenarios, disruptions to lifestyle, personal and family health concerns, and the global economic downturn caused by it have been a severe mental health challenge for most people directly or indirectly. This is in a scenario where mental health issues are already a pressing concern in India. So much so that there is little awareness and acknowledgement of the same. Similar to most physical ailments, mental health problems are also treatable, but it generally takes longer for a person to recover from them. This is more so in case the problem is not identified timely and the right steps are not taken to cure/prevent it. The key is to identify the core areas which can help in improving mental health and alertness. It is important to work on them in a sustainable manner by taking small and effective steps focusing on the following aspects. Sleep quality A predominantly digital lifestyle can also pose challenges to quality sleep. Then there is the modern phenomenon of 24×7 services which make people work in evening and night shifts as well. What must be understood here is that sleep is not an indulgence, but a process through which an individual regains alertness, physical and mental fitness, and a positive mood. Hence, one should try to sleep for eight hours a day which is essential for good health. Further, usage of electronic devices and gadgets such as computers, mobile phones or tablets or even the habit of watching TV before going to sleep should be avoided. Similarly, consumption of caffeine or alcohol before sleeping also affects mental health adversely and should be avoided. Social activities In the wake of COVID-19, everyone is facing restrictions on movement, social interactions, etc. Even celebrating special occasions and festivals has become difficult in this period of social distancing. Thus, it is natural for people to feel mentally bogged down, depressed. However, this is where virtual interactions and social networking become important. Even if you are working from home, make it a point to prepare for the day in the same way that you normally did. Maintain good personal hygiene, dressing style, and groom yourself as if you have to go out and meet people every day. Make video calls and join online groups on subjects that interest you such as creative writing, books, or travel. Health and wellness Generally physical and mental health are considered to be separate areas. However, when it comes to overall health then mental wellness becomes integral as well. Good physical health increases our efficiency, alertness, self-confidence and offers a lot of psychological benefits. This can be ensured by regular exercise and healthy eating habits. When we exercise, our brain receives a boost of the happy chemicals called endorphins which make us feel better and happier. Similarly, eating a healthy diet containing an ideal balance of vitamins and nutrients can keep our body fit, energetic and disease-free. Stress eating, indulging in overeating and regular consumption of junk food are some of the habits that should be avoided. ALSO READ |‘What is the point of a six-pack if you can’t sleep at night?’ Fitness trainer Vrinda Mehta on need for mental well-being Self-care Self-care is essential to improving mental health. People tend to overlook their mental health needs as they remain preoccupied with the wellness of their family members. However, just like we take care of our gadgets to get the best output from them, we also need to practise self-care to live a long, healthy and happy life. Spend some time on your own. Focus on things that make you relax such as taking a hot bath, reading books, writing, listening to or playing music. The idea is to keep yourself in a cheerful mood and eliminate fatigue. Depending on your schedule and needs, you can create a daily, bi-weekly or weekly self-time window to unwind. Pursuing things that make you happy is also a very potent way of self-care. Some people like cooking, others love playing with children or pet and there are those who love to do gardening and travelling. Whatever works for you, find it and follow it regularly. It is true that we want to constantly improve and do better. But we must also acknowledge and appreciate our efforts and things we achieve on the way. Reward yourself and give a mental pat on the back for surviving and thriving in these tough times. Remember, nobody gets desired results always, and if sometimes you under-achieve or fail, it is perfectly okay. In conclusion Mental health challenges in this pandemic age are a reality and almost unavoidable. However, what we all need to focus upon is that these issues are curable with the right approach and professional support. By focusing on self-care, taking good care of our physical health, lifestyle habits such as sleep quality and duration, physical exercise, mental relaxation and rejuvenation activities, we can keep ourselves in a good mental shape. Such good mental fitness is crucial for the society’s and the individual’s growth in the years to come, so let’s just all make a New Year’s resolution to work towards keeping our mental health strong, and earn a pat on the back by keeping the resolution going throughout the year!

Nancy Pelosi has made headlines once more after securing a fourth term as Speaker of the House of Representatives. It marks a new chapter in her nearly 50-year political career with the Democrats - and perhaps her greatest challenge yet. With Kamala Harris about to be the country's first female vice-president, Pelosi can no longer claim the mantle of most powerful woman in US politics. But as Speaker of the House the 80-year-old will play a critical role in advancing the agenda of the new president. That means there's no time to dwell on her personal disappointment over November's election - she takes charge of a shrinking majority in the lower chamber, and was only narrowly re-elected as Speaker, following defections from a handful of Democrat colleagues. Instead, her coming term must demonstrate all the Pelosi qualities that both rally her supporters and alienate her many detractors: her legislative acumen; her ability to keep a restless party united when it matters; and her instinct for political theatre (more on that sarcastic clap later). Raised in a political family Republicans have typically painted Ms Pelosi as a "San Francisco liberal" enamoured with big government and far to the left on social issues. But her roots are from a more practical style of politics on the other side of the continent. She grew up in a political family, youngest of seven children in the gritty East Coast city of Baltimore, Maryland, where her father was mayor. she went to college in nearby Washington where she met and eventually married financier Paul Pelosi. They first moved to Manhattan, and then San Francisco, where Ms Pelosi started as a housewife. She had five children - four daughters and a son - in the space of six years. The start of something big In 1976 she became involved in politics, using her old family connections to help California Governor Jerry Brown win the Maryland primary as he ran for president. She then rose through the state's Democratic Party ranks, eventually becoming its chair and then winning a seat in Congress in 1988. In the House she worked her way up again. Because she represented a portion of the city with a large gay community, she made In 2001, she ran for House minority whip, which is vote-counter and second in command of the party in the House, and won a narrow victory. The next year she moved up to minority leader, which means leading the party in the House but in opposition. Reaching the top She was one of the highest-profile, most outspoken opponents of the US invasion of Iraq in 2003. This stand was vindicated and paid dividends in 2006 when the Democrats took control of the House for the first time in 12 years. She was elected by her party to be Speaker of the House, becoming the first woman in that role in US history. Four years later, Democrats lost control of the lower chamber of Congress. Despite the setback Ms Pelosi defeated several challenges within her own ranks, to take the gavel once more at the helm of a resurgent party in 2018. What does a Speaker do? Speaker of the House is the one congressional job detailed in the US Constitution. It is second in line for the presidency, behind only the vice-president. Its massive office, in the Capitol rotunda, reflects the prestige of the job, with its own balcony looking out toward the Washington Monument. The majority party in the House has virtually unfettered control over the The speaker and her deputies and committee chairs determine what bills are considered and voted on. They set the agenda and decide the rules governing debate. If a speaker can keep her majority in line, the legislative process in the House can purr like a well-tuned machine. From 2009 to 2011, Pelosi's chamber enacted an $840bn stimulus package in the aftermath of the 2008 economic collapse. She also pushed hard to get the Affordable Care Act, which became the defining battle of the Barack Obama presidency, through the House and on to the president's desk. Pelosi's biggest moment She faced very different circumstances when she returned to the speaker's chair in 2018. By then she was a lightning rod for Republican anger - in their eyes, representing the coastal elites pushing a big-spending, radical platform. During the 2018 midterms campaign, Republican incumbent David Brat mentioned Nancy Pelosi and her "liberal agenda" 21 times in one debate. The move backfired for him - and his party - as Democrats swept to a historic win in the House. But this time she had President Donald Trump as well as the wily Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell as obstacles. So any bills her party got through the House didn't go any further. In viral terms, her big moment was her sarcastic #PelosiClap during Trump's State of the Union speech a month after she took office. It still lives on as a po[CENSORED]r gif. Most controversially that same night, she also ripped up Trump's speech in front of the TV cameras. Accused of disrespect, she later defended the move, calling his words a "manifesto of mistruths". Taking on Trump Pelosi was initially reluctant to lead only the third impeachment of a US president. But as more emerged in 2019 of Trump's dealings with Ukraine she eventually said it was an abuse of power that could not be ignored. He was accused of pressing Ukraine to dig up damaging information on Joe Biden, and using military aid as leverage but was acquitted in the Republican-controlled Senate. Four numbers that explain Trump's acquittal Some of those in her own party who were openly calling for her removal in 2018 have since been impressed by the way she has taken on President Trump. As well as some testy exchanges in the Oval Office, she has scored some big legislative wins against him over the border wall funding and a government shutdown. A hollow victory Expectations were high for Democrats to increase their House majority in 2020. But they ended up losing members of Congress instead - more than a dozen net losses. Given the presence of Donald Trump on the ticket to rally Republicans, it was always optimistic for them to expect to improve on their 2018 landslide. But the setback will make things harder for Pelosi as she fights a continuous battle to keep the left-wing of her party happy. The BBC's Anthony Zurcher says this coming term could present her with her biggest political challenge yet. "She must find a way to cajole her razor-thin majority into continued action, with the hopes that Democrats either take back the Senate on Tuesday or convince a handful of Republican moderates to form a deal-making coalition in Congress. "Pelosi has been seldom outmanoeuvred in parliamentary procedure and is unrivalled in her ability to keep her party from breaking ranks - either from the left or the middle. She'll have to keep it up, with little margin for error, if she wants to help Joe Biden get his new administration off to a successful start."

If you haven't heard of NRG HusKerrs, you soon will do. This Warzone streamer just broke the Solo Duos world record in Activision's battle royale. Since Warzone launched in March 2020, players have been trying to one-up each other in a race to the top. Now, we have yet another ground-breaking win on the records. Solo vs Duos is a category reserved for players who like a challenge. Not only are the users going for the most kills possible, but they're also doing it alone against teams of 2. The previous champion Charlie 'MuTeX' Saouma held three consecutive world records in Solo vs Duos. But now, even his top score of 50 Warzone kills has been beaten. NRG HusKerrs is the New Warzone Solo Duo World Record Holder With an incredible 54 kills in the Solo Duo category, HusKerrs is the new world record holder for Warzone Solo Duos. This insane run took place on December 30, as a great way to end off 2020. Making excellent use of the new most overpowered Warzone guns, Jordan 'HusKerrs' Thomas was able to dominate the competition. Just watching his run back though, it's clear that Cold War's broken weaponry isn't what carried HusKerrs to victory. Baiting enemies into rushing his position, the streamer then immediately destroys them with a few DMR 14 shots. From here, the professional Warzone player races around the map in a vehicle, eliminating enemies that he is able to track down. Warzone Has a New Champion Although HusKerrs initially predicts that his slow start was on track for around 40 kills, the user is able to accomplish much more than anticipated. The user does make one crucial mistake though, by picking up the Specialist upgrade. With this in-hand, all of Cold War's weapon reloads become broken in Warzone. But that's still not enough to stop HusKerrs from crushing the Solo Duos world record by 4 kills. The streamer didn't even know the current record when the game ended, asking his chat whether he'd just set a new world best. Of course, there were plenty of death comms complaining about how good the DMR is in Warzone. And it's fair to say, the weapon needs a serious nerf. The same can be said for the Mac-10, which HusKerrs also makes excellent use of. But since the server is all on an even playing field with available weaponry, we'd say this is a completely fair world record.

[Auto] New digs: Driving three of JCB's finest earth movers
EVIL BABY. posted a topic in Auto / Moto
Most presents fit under the tree, but three I’ve been lucky enough to receive this year require a 500-acre quarry called Kevin. Located in the Staffordshire countryside, this industrial playground has, despite its name, a serious purpose as the home of JCB Research, the digger manufacturer’s development centre, where tomorrow’s machines are put through their paces. It’s also the home of JCB Demonstration, where the company shows off its new vehicles to customers as well as to scribes like me who have seen diggers pushing earth around and reckon driving one is as easy as falling off a log. Well, after a day spent doing just that, I’m here to tell you that it ain’t. Never again will I walk past a Backhoe Loader, the digger that JCB has been making for almost 70 years, slightly less than the company has been in existence (it was founded by Joseph Cyril Bamford in 1945), with nothing but respect for its operator. If you think patting your head and rubbing your belly is hard, you want to try operating a Backhoe’s joystick controls. There are two, and on the Backhoe, they operate the boom and dipper (the two jointed arms) and bucket or shovel and, depending on the model, have buttons and switches controlling features such as gear selection, diff lock and power boost. Each works in left and right as well as fore and aft planes. If it’s one of JCB’s tracked diggers, there will also be a couple of hand- and foot-operated levers for steering the vehicle. To the right of the driver are panels of switches that control functions such as engine revs, bucket lock and unlock, travel speed and heating and ventilation. Depending on the model, two switches ahead of the driver deploy the vehicle stabilisers for uneven ground. in short, a modern JCB is a technical tour de force that, despite its uncannily smooth operation and excellent ergonomics, requires a good deal of practice to master to the point that it feels like an extension of the driver. A driver such as Matt Lucas (no, not that Matt Lucas), JCB Demonstration’s team leader. In his hands, a goliath such as the 220X LC, the firm’s newest tracked excavator, can be as gentle and precise as a surgeon. “I could comb your hair with it,” he tells me as he deftly skims the ground with its 600kg bucket. Thank God I’m going bald. Matt wants to show me three JCBs: the 220X, a Backhoe Loader 3CX and a revolutionary new electric mini excavator called – this is the no-nonsense world of construction, remember – the 19C-1E. Once I’ve got a basic grip of its controls, I discover the 19C-1E is as capable of scooping up rubble and scurrying around on its tracks as I imagine its fossil-fuelled equivalent, the 19C-1, to be. Just like an electric car, torque is instant, resulting in effortless shovelling. Its four lithium ion batteries pack enough power to last a full working shift and can be rapid-charged in 2.5 hours. Still, impressive though it is, I can’t see the 1E competing on level terms with diesel diggers. “Don’t underestimate it,” says Matt. “Not only can the 1E work outdoors but it can do so at night without disturbing anyone. Its biggest advantage, though, is that it can work in emissions-sensitive environments and inside buildings without requiring expensive air extraction systems.” It’s a proper little mole. And flicking a switch brings its two tracks closer together, enabling me to drive it down a narrow ramp. Try doing that in a Tesla. Backhoe loader JCB invented the backhoe loader, a versatile, wheeled digger with a front shovel and a rear excavator arm. It was the making of the company and the 750,000th model rolled off the production line earlier this year. Matt wants to show me the latest version, the 3CX, with features including automatic stabilisers, JCB’s Smooth Ride System and Torquelock, which reduces on-road fuel consumption. The cab is packed with controls great and small, as well as touchscreens. Joysticks and levers aside, it all looks and feels car-like: tough but intelligently laid out. Practical, too: the steering wheel adjusts for reach and rake and there’s a column shift for the four-speed gearbox. -
Hospitals across the UK are being told to prepare to face the same Covid pressures as the NHS in London and south-east England. Senior doctor Prof Andrew Goddard said the virus's highly infectious new variant was spreading nationwide. Case numbers were "mild" compared with where he expected them to be next week, he said, with doctors "really worried". It comes as a further 57,725 people have tested positive for Covid - a new daily high. This is the fifth day in a row new daily cases have been over 50,000 and brings the total number of cases to 2,599,789. Another 445 deaths, of people who had tested positive within the previous 28 days, were reported on Saturday - bringing the total number of deaths to 74,570, according to government figures. The UK-wide total for people in hospital with Covid has already passed the spring peak. Half of the major hospital trusts in England are said to be dealing with more Covid-19 patients than at the worst point of the first wave in April, with the NHS facing its "busiest winter ever". Prof Goddard, of the Royal College of Physicians, told BBC Breakfast: "There's no doubt that Christmas is going to have a big impact, the new variant is also going to have a big impact, we know that is more infectious, more transmissible, so I think the large numbers that we're seeing in the South East, in London, in south Wales, is now going to be reflected over the next month, two months even, over the rest of the country." He said: "It seems very likely that we are going to see more and more cases, wherever people work in the UK, and we need to be prepared for that." Pressure has been so great on hospitals in London and south-east England that some patients have been moved out of the area. London's weekly rate of coronavirus cases is 858 per 100,000 people, double the UK figure. Dominic Harrison, director of public health for Blackburn and Darwen, said a decision on a new lockdown had to be decided "in the next week" - instead of waiting for the North to get to the same rates as the capital "and 'call it late' which has been our pattern of response too often". The most recent UK-wide statistics, from 28 December, showed there were 23,823 people in hospital with Covid. That was already significantly higher than the spring peak, which saw 21,683 in hospital on 12 April. Only English hospitals have released figures for the final three days of December - and these show that a further 2,302 Covid patients were occupying hospital beds on 31 December. London's Nightingale emergency hospital is ready to admit patients, the NHS has said, while other sites currently not in use are being readied.

The Mini-ITX form-factor enables one to build rather compact desktops and if a PC maker wants something smaller, it goes with a proprietary form-factor. ECS has revealed a motherboard that has a width of 170 mm and a depth of 85 mm, which is about "half" of a Mini-ITX motherboard. The platform can fit into standard Mini-ITX chassis, but to take full advantage of its dimensions, one will have to use a built-to-order case. The ECS GLKD-HTI is based on Intel's Gemini Lake SoC with two or four Goldmont Plus cores as well as Intel UHD Graphics 600/605 (Gen 9.5). The processor can be accompanied by up to 8GB of DDR4-2133 memory using one SO-DIMM module, a single-sided M.2-2280 SSD with a SATA interface and a 2.5/3.5-inch drive featuring a SATA interface. The ECS GLKD-HTI is a rather feature rich platform and has everything one might need for basic productivity or entertainment tasks. The motherboard is equipped with a GbE port (controlled by the Realtek 8111H) and has an M.2 slot for a Wi-Fi/Bluetooth module. It also has four USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI display output as well as two audio jacks (enabled by the Realtek ALC662) to attach speakers and a microphone (or a headset). Aside from its "Half Mini-ITX" form-factor, the main selling point of the ECS GLKD-HTI is its promise of ultimate reliability, something ECS calls the Durathon Technology. The manufacturer equipped the platform with solid-state capacitors, ESD protection as well as LAN surge protection. Meanwhile, the system is not exactly positioned as an 'embedded product', so it may not be exactly designed for commercial or industrial applications.

Now that Warzone and Black Ops Cold War have merged, fans of the battle royale need to find a way to earn weapon XP fast. Finally, we have our definitive fastest way to level up the new guns. If you're a battle royale fan who wants to take advantage of the new overpowered Cold War weapons in Warzone but you don't want to buy Cold War, you're in luck. After the best meta guns in Warzone all became Cold War exclusives, Modern Warfare fans became rather unhappy. After all, Modern Warfare fans were already angry at Cold War's forced inclusion. Now it seems to many that Activision is intentionally making weapons overpowered to encourage sales of its latest product. But if you don't want to buy Cold War, don't worry. (Source: Activision) After all, one YouTuber calculates that you don't need Black Ops Cold War to earn weapon XP the fastest. How to Earn Weapon XP and Level Up Cold War Weapons Fast for Warzone In his latest video, Call of Duty YouTuber TheXclusiveAce confirms exactly what method will get players the fastest weapon XP in Warzone and Cold War. With some rigorous testing, the user found that one method provides more XP than others.First TheXclusiveAce set out to use Warzone's weapon XP numbers to calculate the fastest way of leveling up. And this leads to an interesting discovery. From playing Team Deathmatch and earning 25 kills, TheXclusiveAce reports gains of 4608 weapon XP. These quick Cold War Multiplayer matches take around 10 minutes to complete. READ MORE: Call of Duty: Warzone Is Broken and It’s Boring Players Although Black Ops Cold War Zombies is the best way to earn weapon camos, the same can't be said for XP. Playing Zombies for 20 minutes leads to 5238 weapon XP. However, playing Plunder in Warzone is also an excellent way of leveling up your weapons. By dropping hot and just going for kills, TheXclusiveAce achieves 7900 weapon XP in a 20-minute game. However, Plunder has another method of easy weapon leveling in Warzone. By dropping into the game and simply completing as many Supply Run contracts as possible, the YouTuber earned 8950 weapon XP, with 8 contracts complete. That said, there's one thing that TheXclusiveAce missed. The Fastest Way to Level Up Cold War Guns in Warzone In a comment by fellow YouTuber JGOD, the user points out that TheXclusiveAce wasn't being as efficient as possible. Instead of going it solo, players should drop into Plunder with a full squad. With a full team, players can easily accomplish 20 or more Supply Run contracts in one match. And since all the weapon XP earned is shared, this is the definitive best way to level up Cold War guns for Warzone. If you're going it alone though, you'd likely be better off with Cold War's standard Multiplayer action.

What is it? In short, it’s what you’ll see plenty of. The Tiguan is a hugely po[CENSORED]r SUV - Volkswagen’s most po[CENSORED]r car worldwide, no less - and the Life is, according to VW, going to be the most numerous trim in the UK. And just to add to the all-round po[CENSORED]rity stakes, the engine we’re testing in this Ford Kuga rival - the 1.5 TSI 150 - is predicted to be the one that most people will plump for as well. We’re testing it because the whole range has been facelifted, with tweaks to the drive, assist and infotainment systems, along with some worked-over looks. On the last of those, new LED headlights and front bumper, as well as newly designed alloys, are the highlights of the changes. It’s a subtle makeover (aren’t they all?) and has been tailored to bring the car more in line with the larger Touareg, but neither of these observations is a criticism. It’s a sharper-looking car now and has only improved on what was already a decent-looking family SUV. One thing to help the badge spotters out there: if you see a Tiguan with the model name centrally placed under the boot’s VW roundel, you’re looking at the latest car. There are also new trims as part of the facelift. Gone are the S, Match, SEL and R-Line Tech levels, to be replaced by the base Tiguan (no trim level designation on that one), moving up into Life, Elegance and R-Line. Inside, the big change is on the lower tier of the centre dashboard. The new climate control system is now a largely touchscreen set-up, including sliders to change the temperature, and more closely mirrors the 8.0in infotainment set-up above it. Three of the latest USB-C ports - two up front and one in the rear - complete the changes. All these are standard on the Life model. Everything looks very smart (at least until you smear finger marks all over it) and it largely works well, with handy Apple CarPlay or Android Auto app buttons lined up nearest to the driver. But it’s still a touchscreen set-up and it remains a concern about having to take your eyes off the road for too long to adjust it. This is especially relevant to the new sliders controlling the temperature, as they’re a fiddle to change and also a bit low down. The net effect is that you spend too long glancing down. When the rest of the cabin is so well thought out, these aspects go against the grain of the generally superb German logic. Other equipment includes three-zone climate control, phone connectivity, folding and sliding rear seats, and a smart-looking ‘Shooting Star’ cloth upholstery. It all adds up to a cabin that delivers what a buyer needs. It feels as well screwed together as any rival and delivers the blend of smart looks and practicality that Volkswagen has been excelling at for decades. Where you’d be scrabbling around for somewhere to put your water bottle in some rivals, in the Tiguan it just drops into the vast door pocket.

The Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine has been approved for use in the UK, with the first doses due to be given on Monday. There will be 530,000 doses available from next week, and vaccination centres will now start inviting patients to come and get the jab. Priority groups for immunisation have already been identified, starting with care home residents, the over-80s, and health and care workers. It comes as millions more in England are placed in tier four restrictions. The UK has ordered 100 million doses of the new vaccine - enough to vaccinate 50 million people. Eventually all over 50s and younger adults with health conditions will be offered a jab in the first phase of the rollout - more than 25 million people in total. It is hoped that about two million patients a week could soon be vaccinated with two vaccines now approved. On Tuesday, 53,135 new Covid cases were recorded in the UK - the highest single day rise since mass te The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has authorised two full doses of the Oxford vaccine, with the second dose to be given four to 12 weeks after the first. The immunisation campaign will now shift to giving as many people as possible their first dose of vaccine with a second dose following within that period. When the Pfizer-BioNTech jab rollout began, the aim was to give the second dose after three weeks. But based on advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation, the aim now is to give as many vulnerable people some protection from Covid-19, irrespective of the jab they are given. The Oxford vaccine is easier to store and distribute, as it can be kept at normal fridge temperature unlike the Pfizer-BioNTech jab that has to be kept at -70C. There is also more confidence about supply as it is UK-made, whereas the Pfizer-BioNTech jab has to be shipped in from Belgium. Pregnant and breastfeeding women can now take either of the two approved coronavirus vaccines "when the potential benefits outweigh the risks", experts said at an MHRA news conference. The Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine can also now be administered to people with a wide range of food and medicine allergies, but people allergic to ingredients in the vaccine should not take it. Dr June Raine, chief executive of the MHRA, told the briefing that "no corners have been cut" in assessing the safety and effectiveness of the Oxford-AstraZeneca jab. 'Triumph' Prime Minister Boris Johnson has hailed the latest vaccine development as "a triumph" for British science, adding: "We will now move to vaccinate as many people as quickly as possible." And England's chief medical officer Chris Whitty praised the "considerable collective effort that has brought us to this point". Mr Hancock told the Commons the vaccine's approval was "a huge British success story ", and "the single biggest stride that we've been able to take since this pandemic began." Speaking on the BBC earlier he said the UK now had enough coronavirus jabs ordered, including the Pfizer vaccine, to vaccinate "the whole po[CENSORED]tion". "We've got 100 million doses on order - add that to the 30 million doses of Pfizer and that's enough for two doses for the entire po[CENSORED]tion," he said. Earlier, Prof Andrew Pollard, director of the Oxford Vaccine Group, told BBC Radio 4's Today programme the vaccine approval was an "astonishing achievement" in science and clinical research. But he said there was still "more work to do", warning: "It's not over yet." "Our colleagues in hospital are facing some real horrors caused by this virus. The next steps are critical," he said. Trials showed two full doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech jab were 95% effective at preventing infection, while the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine showed 62% effectiveness - although even in cases where people were infected, there were no cases of serious illness needing hospital treatment. Trials of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine also showed that when people were given a half dose then a full dose, effectiveness hit 90%. But there was not enough clear data to approve the half-dose, full-dose idea. However, unpublished data suggests that leaving a longer gap between the first and second doses increases the overall effectiveness of the jab - in the sub-group given the vaccine this way it was found to be 70% effective after the first dose. All the vaccines are expected to be equally effective against the new variants of the virus that have emerged. More than 600,000 people in the UK have been vaccinated with the Pfizer-BioNTech jab since Margaret Keenan became the first person in the world to be given a Covid vaccine outside a clinical trial.

One of a number of free next-gen upgrade titles being offered on Sony’s newest hardware, developer Tripwire has returned to its undersea all you can eat buffet, and brought a few new bells and whistles with it. Maneater now runs at 60 frames-per-second and with a native 4K resolution, though honestly these changes are rather minor. Though the marquee addition of ray-tracing isn't actually yet implemented, the lighting and shadowing in the game look vastly improved. Spending time in the water in this title is downright stunning. The light filtering through wavering water looks breath-taking, and is by far the most impressive graphical feature of the title. Pair this with newly implemented HDR, and the vibrant colors of the sea have never looked so inviting. Just watch out for sharks. It is, however, rather disappointing, that the game doesn’t take advantage of this new technological leap to smooth out performance. Anytime the screen gets too busy – especially when you’re being hunted by the game’s Grand Theft Auto-style wanted level system – the framerate nosedives. It’s especially problematic as you increase your shark’s speed. You eventually start moving faster than the load-in times for areas of the map. This creates a cascading effect where the frame rate gets progressively worse and worse, unless you stop and let the title catch up. The most disappointing thing, however, is that Tripwire hasn’t used the PS5 upgrade as an excuse to overhaul the camera. It’s still a little finicky, and it’s especially frustrating to use during combat. A lock-on system would have been most welcome. Ultimately, though, the volume of changes are rather small. Apart from some performance enhancements, the game remains almost identical to its last-gen counterpart. Making this a free upgrade was absolutely the right call. There’s not really enough to move the needle in any meaningful direction regarding changes. The same combat, level progression, tone, and soundtrack all offer up the same thrilling experience that was available last-gen. The new features are welcome, and the game definitely looks nicer, but apart from that, it’s the same experience. If you had your fill of the title on the PS4, there’s not a whole lot to come back for. However, if you’re just diving into the game now, this is the version you want.

In a document released a couple of days before the New Year, Intel confirmed that its upcoming Xeon Scalable processors based on the Sapphire Rapids microarchitecture would support on-package HBM memory. A memory subsystem featuring HBM will significantly increase the bandwidth available to the CPU compared to a subsystem that uses conventional types of memory, like DDR4 or DDR5, meaning that future CPUs could resemble today's GPUs with a healthy amount of HBM memory riding on the same package. HBM Support Confirmed Rumors have emerged in recent months that suggested that Intel might enhance its Sapphire Rapids with HBM memory support. In the 42nd edition of its Instruction Set Extensions and Future Features Programming Reference (which was discovered by @InstLatX64/Twitter), Intel confirmed that Sapphire Rapids would support HBM memory. Chapter 15 of the document defines the machine error codes for future CPUs powered by the Sapphire Rapids microarchitecture, and Section 15.1 specifically mentions error codes associated with integrated memory controllers for these future processors. Among other details, the chapter mentions error codes for HBM command/address parity errors and HBM data parity errors, which essentially means that Sapphire Rapids will be able to work with HBM types of memory. So far, Intel has officially confirmed that its Sapphire Rapids processor will feature an eight-channel DDR5 memory controller enhanced with its Data Streaming Accelerator (DSA) technology, which should already provide a significant bandwidth boost over today's DDR4-based memory subsystems. Additionally, the chip will support Intel's next-generation Optane Memory modules. Details Remain Unknown Various CPU architects have long envisioned onboard HBM support for microprocessors, so adding it to Sapphire Rapids is not necessarily a breakthrough concept. What remains to be seen is how Intel plans to implement onboard HBM and how it plans to use it. Fujitsu's 48-core A64FX processor that powers Fugaku, the world's fastest supercomputer, carries 32GB of HBM2 memory onboard, and it doesn't look like it actually supports DDR4 memory. The A64FX chip connects to its HBM2 using an interposer in the same manner we see with high-performance GPUs. In contrast, AMD's X3D and Intel's Foveros 3D stacking technologies enable these companies to stack chiplets and other types of dies (e.g., memory devices) on top of each other to make the chips smaller. Unfortunately, Intel has never talked publicly about whether or not it plans to use Foveros for Sapphire Rapids. What is more important is how Intel plans to use HBM on Sapphire Rapids. The company could use HBM instead of DDR5 on some products. These CPU models would not support as much memory as their DDR5-enabled counterparts but would offer massive bandwidth instead. They would also consume a lot of power, so the manufacturer might only target them for select applications. Intel could also build a hybrid memory subsystem comprising both HBM and DDR5 (or even Optane Memory in certain cases) in a bid to get the best of both worlds. In this case, HBM would act like a massive cache sitting between the CPU and DDR5. Historically, both AMD and Intel have used off-chip caches, so that's not an entirely new concept. Meanwhile, power could be a constraint here, restricting the number of SKUs that might carry HBM. Loads of Innovations Intel's Sapphire Rapids processor promises to be a rather massive leap in terms of performance and features over the upcoming Ice Lake-SP chip. In addition to the all-new Golden Gove microarchitecture that will bring support for Intel’s Advanced Matrix Extensions (AMX) as well as AVX512_BF16 and AVX512_VP2INTERSECT instructions designed for datacenter and supercomputer workloads, the CPU will also support PCIe Gen 5, the CXL 1.1 protocol, and the DSA accelerator. To boost core count, clocks, and yields, Sapphire Rapids is also expected to adopt a chiplet design, though this hasn't been confirmed by Intel.

Being on Autocar’s long-term test fleet is the ultimate test for any new car. It’s a chance for us to find out what a new machine is really like to live with over an extended period. Although the sudden – and still ongoing, for the Autocar team – advent of remote working means our office car park has been empty since March, we’ve maintained a fleet of long-termers at our various home offices. But while the need for social distancing and suitable sanitising safety measures has reduced our ability to swap cars quite so frequently, we’ve still been privileged to run some incredible cars this year. And, as is tradition, it’s time to hand out some awards. The Best Innovation (Until a Vaccine) Award - for the most innovative feature Winner: Jeep Wrangler removable roof and doors; Highly Commended: Mazda Skyactiv-X Engine, Honda E twin touchscreens Modern cars are kitted out with ever-growing amounts of cutting-edge and sophisticated technology. But sometimes the best form of addition is subtraction – which is shown by our Jeep Wrangler’s removable doors and roof. Effectively, this allows drivers to turn it from largely civilised SUV into a stripped-back off-roader with relatively limited effort. “This is a car that can tow my Defender home when the clutch goes on a rainy October evening but can also be a fun-loving roofless convertible when the sun shines,” said custodian Matthew Prior. Still, the Autocar team did also highlight some more advanced tech in this category. The compression-ignition Skyactiv-X engine in our Mazda 3 long-termer drew praise: the improvements in economy may be only relatively modest, but Mazda’s efforts to show the combustion engine still has a future are very welcome. The Honda E scored for its truly brilliant twin-touchscreen set-up, which both looks good and offers innovative, useful features. Plus, as deputy digital editor Tom Morgan noted: “Any car that rolls off the forecourt and lets me hook up a PlayStation gets the thumbs-up.” The Socially Distanced Disappointment Award - for the car you most wanted to drive but couldn’t due to Covid Winner: Toyota GR Supra; Highly commended: Jeep Wrangler, Lamborghini Huracan There are many positives to home-working and also many drawbacks. And, for Team Autocar, the latter category included the difficulty in switching cars around as much as we would like to. Some of the team fared better than others, and most fortunate of all was clearly road tester Richard Lane, who found himself stuck with a Lamborghini Huracán during lockdown and then took custody of a Toyota GR Supra later in the year. The rest of the team were well jell, as I believe the kids call it. “I’ve always liked the Supra’s sporty GT flavour, but I still haven’t done a really long drive in one,” lamented road test editor Matt Saunders. Meanwhile, staff writer Felix Page really wanted a go in the Huracán. He did note that the restrictions preventing him weren’t just about social distancing and home working but also a healthy fear of driving the Huracán around his speedbump-blighted neighbourhood. With a Skoda Superb Estate having featured on our fleet, there was never really any doubt over the winner of this award. Fact: rule 37b of the car journalists’ rule book makes it a requirement to wax lyrical about the load capacity of a Skoda estate whenever running one. “Its massive boot is bigger than my entire flat,” said road tester Simon Davis, and editorial director Jim Holder added: “It’s probably big enough to empty the contents of my home into. It’s better appointed, too. I should probably live in the car and leave my rubbish in the house.” That the gargantuan Volkswagen Touareg garnered some votes wasn’t a surprise, with editor Mark Tisshaw noting that you really had to drive one to appreciate how big it.

Almost 5% of the people in the Chinese city of Wuhan may have been infected with Covid-19, a study by researchers at the Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has shown. Wuhan's po[CENSORED]tion is estimated at 11 million, which suggests that almost 500,000 people may have had the virus. If true, that is almost 10 times higher than Wuhan's officially recorded number of 50,354 cases. Asymptomatic cases are not counted in China's official case tally. The study, carried out early this year, took samples from 34,000 people in Wuhan, as well the broader Hubei province, Beijing, Shanghai and four other provinces, said China's CDC in a statement on WeChat. Researchers found an antibody prevalence rate of 4.43% in Wuhan, and a prevalence rate of 0.44% in the broader Hubei province. The study comes ahead of a visit by a team of international scientists to Wuhan to investigate the origins of the virus. They will visit next month, following months of negotiations with Beijing, who had been reluctant to agree to an independent inquiry. China had earlier this year been accused of a lack of transparency over its virus figures, with critics casting doubt on the extent to which their numbers could be trusted. The CDC statement added that only two people tested positive for the antibody among the 12,000 people tested outside Hubei. The study was conducted one month after China "contained the first wave" of the pandemic It concluded that the number of people infected outside Wuhan was low, saying that this suggested measures taken in Wuhan had prevented the virus from spreading on a larger scale. How Wuhan went from quiet streets to packed pools Earlier this year, the virus was traced to a so-called "wet market" in Wuhan, and it was suggested that this was where it made the leap from animals to humans. But experts now believe it may simply have been amplified there.
