f I were to design my perfect recreational sports car, it would be an open two-seater, with a big, naturally-aspirated engine at one end and the driven wheels at the other. It would be low and narrow enough to thread through the lanes with confidence. It would have a great deal of power, certainly more than 300bhp but, even more importantly, as little weight as possible so it tipped the scales at well under a tonne. And if it were British and beautiful, so much the better. Inadvertently, I appear to have designed a Lister-Jaguar, and only just a smidgeon over 60 years late. For it was cars just like that you see here which became the fastest, most feared sports cars on the British domestic racing...

“Behind every great man an’ all that,” tweeted Beverley Turner last weekend after James Cracknell, her soon-to-be-ex-husband, became the oldest winner of the Boat Race. At 46, the double-Olympic gold medallist and six-time world champion had just rowed to victory as part of the Cambridge crew against Oxford. It was, everyone agreed, a remarkable feat. It’s a fair bet that fewer people last Sunday were considering Turner’s own remarkable feat, in remaining in her marriage for almost 17 years. The following day she made sure this changed: writing in a national newspaper, she vented what one imagines was many years of frustration by reminding an adulatory public of just what goes into the achievements...

he London headquarters of major oil firm Shell has been targeted by climate change protesters after its doors were destroyed and graffii was daubed on the building. Police were called to the Shell Centre near Waterloon station today during the Extinction Rebellion (XR) demonstrations across the capital. Photographs shared on social media show the building's revolving doors have been shattered, while messages such as "Shell kills" were sprayed on the property. The Telegraph has contacted Scotland Yard for comment. A Shell spokesperson said: "We respect the right of everyone to express their point of view, we only ask that they do so with their safety and the safety of others in mind." It comes as radical environmental protesters block major London roads in an attempt to bring the capital to a standstill. The XR group are targeting Marble Arch, Oxford Circus, Waterloo Bridge, and Parliament Square with plans to block the routes “for as long as it takes", making it inevitable that they will be arrested for obstruction. Waterloo Bridge was blocked in both directions this morning as dozens of activists gathered on the river crossing. A tweet on the campaign group's Twitter page read: "We have taken Waterloo bridge!" Organisers say thousands of people will also converge on Marble Arch, Oxford Circus, Piccadilly Circus and Parliament Square in non-violent action which could last for weeks. In Oxford Street, a huge pink boat was unveiled in the middle of the road, which was also shut as part of the protests. XR, whose prime goal is to reduce carbon emissions to zero by 2025, claims between 3,000 and 6,000 supporters could take part in the protests. Last November, they blocked bridges across London to bring chaos to the capital. Sophie Cowen, an Oxford French graduate who joined the group in November and now acts as media co-ordinator, pledged non-violent civil disobedience: “It’s 100 per cent about obstructing traffic and making sure we bring it to a standstill. People are willing to be arrested.” The group warned the protests could take place in the middle of roads for weeks, meaning protesters may face arrest for obstruction CREDIT: HENRY NICHOLLS/REUTERS The Metropolitan Police said officers would be used from across the service to provide a “proportionate” response to the protests, which balanced the right to a peaceful protest while ensuring disruption to communities was kept to a minimum. A spokesman urged travellers to allow extra journey time as road closures and disruptions to the travel network were expected. A Transport for London spokesman said: "The safety of our customers and staff is our number one priority and we're working closely with the police to manage the impact on London's transport network. Speaking at a meditation on the eve of the protests Dr Williams said humans had declared war on nature. He said: "We are here tonight to declare that we do not wish to be at war. We wish to make peace with ourselves by making peace with our neighbour Earth and with our God." Thompson has previously said of the demonstrations: "It is time to stand up and save our home." Organisers said: "The International Rebellion begins and Extinction Rebellion will be bringing London to a standstill for up to two weeks. "They will be blocking five of the city's busiest and most iconic locations in a non-violent, peaceful act of rebellion where they invite people to join them for several days of creative, artist-led resistance." Extinction Rebellion said protests in London could last a couple of weeks CREDIT: HENRY NICHOLLS/REUTERS Demonstrators arrived at London's Hyde Park on Sunday, some having journeyed to the city on foot in recent weeks from various parts of the UK for what is described as an "International Rebellion". Today will see people in at least 80 cities in more than 33 countries hold similar demonstrations on the same environmental issues, campaigners said. While organisers encouraged people to set up camp in Hyde Park overnight into Monday, they were warned they could be breaking the law by doing so under Royal Parks legislation. A spokeswoman for The Royal Parks said Extinction Rebellion had not asked for permission to begin the protest in the park and that camping is not allowed. But police said no arrests were made overnight after earlier explaining their operational response to camping "would be dependent on what if any other issues might be ongoing at the time".

here's nothing quite as quintessentially British as roast beef. As early as 1748, William Hogarth was using it to taunt the French in his paintings, with 'O the Roast Beef of Old England' portraying Britain's wealth and power via a huge chunk of beef; a scrawny Frenchman nearby tucks into a meal of onion soup. During the Industrial Revolution beef became a symbol of wealth and national identity among the emerging middle classes, to the extent that the French coined the apparently insulting sobriquet 'les rosbifs'. But perhaps it's time the nickname changed to 'les ros-chicks'?

ome remember it as a glorious moment of history being made, as a newborn future king was brought outside by his loving parents for the besotted public to see. Other recall it as the days when Britain collectively lost its head staring at a closed hospital door. Either way, the scenes of jubilation outside the Lindo Wing will not be recreated for the next royal birth, as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex swap the celebratory public moment for total privacy as a new family of three. The Duke and Duchess, whose first child will be an Earl or Lady rather than Prince or Princess, said they would be "celebrating privately as a new family" after the birth as a first priority. In a short statement issued yesterday, they said they would not be sharing plans for the arrival of their baby, and will not undertake a public appearance after it is born. Instead, they will arrange for photographs of the baby to be taken in the days following the birth, after mother and baby have enough time to recover and bond. The low-key plans in part reflect the status of Baby Sussex, who will be seventh in line to the throne. He or she will not have an automatic HRH title, being known as the Earl of Dumbarton if a boy, and Lady [firstname] Mountbatten-Windsor if a girl. George, Charlotte and Louis, the baby's cousins, were all confirmed as being a Prince or Princess before birth thanks to a Letters Patent issued by the Queen in December 2012, seven months before the arrival the first Cambridge child. No such declaration has yet been made with respect to the Sussex’s baby. The choice of a private birth plan also sees the Sussexes choose a different path to that of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who confirmed each of their three children would be born at the Lindo Wing and invited members of the public and media to wait in a carefully-controlled area outside to see them. The Princess Royal and Diana, Princess of Wales, both also stepped out of the Lindo Wing cradling their babies, while Sarah, Duchess of York, posed outside the Portland. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will instead follow in the footsteps of the Queen with hopes for a home birth, and will settle into their new home in Windsor before the public is offered a glimpse of their newborn. In a statement issued by Buckingham Palace, a spokesman said: "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very grateful for the goodwill they have received from people throughout the United Kingdom and around the world as they prepare to welcome their baby. "Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private. "The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family." The palace are expected to issue a short written announcement confirming the Duchess is in labour, with a second to follow upon the safe arrival of the baby, giving details of its sex, weight and time of birth. Pictures of the baby will be issued later, when the infant is a few days old. The couple are also likely to utilise their SussexRoyal Instagram page to share news and images of their choice. The palace will not yet confirm whether news of his or her arrival will be posted on an easel outside Buckingham Palace, or whether it would be celebrated with a gun salute. As the child is not directly in line to the throne, there is no convention that insists upon it. The Royal Collection Trust would not say whether a range of china will be produced. Joe Little, managing editor of Majesty magazine, pointed out the announcement had already led to accusations from critics that the Sussexes had courted publicity when it suited them only to shun it again, but said the majority of people would be understanding. “I think the expectation [from the public] was that the photocall had become a bit of a royal tradition,” he said of the Lindo Wing. As we now know that’s not proved to be the case, and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have chosen to do things in their own way for their own reasons. “I think there may be an element of disappointment on the part of the most zealous of royal watchers. “But like all matters royal, these things evolve and this is how the Sussexes have chosen to do it.” Simon McCoy, the BBC newsreader who became famous for his dry observations about the lack of Lindo Wing action during Prince George’s birth, responded to the announcement with a cheerful “good news!!!”

ECHO is an action adventure and infiltration game in the third person. After having spent a century in stasis, En joined its destination: a legendary palace, a work of a civilization of old times, which still awaits its first human occupants. Relying on forgotten technologies, En hopes to bring someone back to life. But nothing had prepared her for what she will face in the dark corridors hidden beneath the surface. The experience begins with a character-centric exploration to turn into a more complex adventure. The Palace studies all your deeds and actions in order to use them against you. The game is a mix of stealth, action and mani[CENSORED]tion, while you face your ultimate enemy: yourself. YOUR WAY OF PLAYING SHOWS THE GAME All in one consequence in ECHO: as you mani[CENSORED]te the technologies of the Palace, you will discover that it has its own will ... It creates "Echoes", exact replicas of yourself in every detail, which behave and act exactly like you. So, the way you play shapes your enemy. If you run, soon the Echoes will go faster. If you act stealthily, they will be more discreet. And if you shoot, they will shoot in turn. The game responds to your choices and your decisions. INTELLIGENT MECHANICS The Palace "resets" from time to time, during black-outs. These blackout cycles correspond to the rate at which the Echoes are updated according to your last reactions, learning and learning according to your actions. During a blackout, the Palace is blind, which leaves you free to act without consequence. It is then time to go for it, shoot and do everything you do not want the Echoes to learn. The experience puts you in front of your choices since the last black-out cycle, allowing you to shape the game from one cycle to another. Whether you prefer discretion or action, one thing is certain: you will have to think continuously to survive in the Palace. A FUTURE ATMOSPHERE AND SCENARIO The scenario is the cornerstone of ECHO. The game begins in the form of a narrative experience, focused on En and his journey through the Palace and through his past. Who is she and what are her links with the Palace? Who is this man whom she must resurrect and under what circumstances did he die? Slowly, all the answers will unfold as you wander through the dark corridors of the Palace.

This dreamlike crossing is imagined by the young developers of the Okomotive studio in Zurich, Switzerland. Founded in 2017 by Don Schmocker and Goran Saric, FAR: Lone Sails is the first studio game published by Mixtvision on the 17th but 2018 on multiplatform privileging PC and MAC output. The rest of the machines will be entitled to their own version later. Man and machine against nothingness It is under a sky lined with clouds at the foot of a stele in tribute to a friend that the player begins his journey in a machine that will require care and attention to reach an unknown destination. The oceans have dried up, become real cemeteries for submarines, super tankers and other marine vehicles. With the scenery on the vehicle, the island colonies once full of life collapsed on their own weight of their former glory. One thing is certain: you are alone; probably the last person still standing in this broken world devoid of a reassuring company, comfort and a reason to exist. The past is far behind under the ruins of modern civilization, the hope for better days may lie on the other side of the horizon. What could have caused the catastrophe and is there still life? FAR: Lone Sails takes you into a stylized post-apocalyptic universe However, it is already too late to find an answer to these questions: the most important goal of the trip remains to be elucidated by the player without any clues about the purpose of his epic. At the controls of a little red guy who will have mourned, we hasten to board a kind of hybrid between the ship and the locomotive on wheels that serves as a mobile fortress that will transport the silent character at the end of his trip. During his journey, despite the blatant lack of life in the area, the world is teeming with stories to discover and places to explore. The hope of the better days begins with the presence of this person dressed in a red cape to convey the memories of a lost civilization; alone, he unknowingly conveys the ultimate hope of his civilization to avoid sinking into oblivion. Into the wild? The crossing of the desert looming on the horizon has its share of obstacles in the form of puzzle-game and small puzzles to solve and a weather that can quickly become threatening for the iron giant who, as a reminder, is the only way to reach the mysterious destination. FAR: Lone Sails is above all a journey to the unknown, to an uncertain future, to a hope to give meaning to its existence. Although the character is a tiny speck of dust that travels with the winds in this vast world in decay aboard an impressive machine, crossing sumptuous sets each telling their story by their appearance without saying a word makes the trip both fascinating and mysterious. "Life is a journey and not a destination." Ralph Waldo Emerson While the journey leads us to insert itself more and more in the darkness, the imposing machine as for it, is nothing but a cold carcass without soul which can be animated only by a series of push buttons located in the key places of the vehicle. The pilgrimage is punctuated by a succession of relaxing moments that allow you to contemplate the landscapes in the distance and more committed episodes that require a lot of attention from the player: manage the fuel supply, monitor the condition of the vehicle and repair it if necessary, react at the right moment to approach obstacles on the road and untie the situation to get the vehicle. Playable on the keyboard, the use of a controller is highly recommended The odyssey will lead to finding additional parts to integrate into the vehicle to enhance its functions and these additional functions are a decisive factor to hope to reach the end of the journey. The gameplay of Lone Sails wants to be simple and effective: within the reach of all those who trust their intuition. Managing an archaic inventory or complex key combinations is not necessary to reach the horizon. It is not about being the best equipped or the most efficient to progress, the game requires to show initiative and to approach the expedition as one hears and to experiment the possibilities at hand. It is a way of being alone with oneself and becoming aware of one's own abilities in the face of this desolate surrounding beauty. The artistic angle worked FAR: Lone Sails draws its inspiration from various backgrounds, citing Stephan Biesty "Incredible Cross-Sections" as a major inspiration for conceptualizing the title as well as the work done by Theo Jansen for his "Strandbeest" invention. Films like "Mad Max II" or "Das Boot" and games like "Limbo" or "Journey" have also had their influence in shaping the artistic direction of the young studio's game. The color palette is deliberately limited by a balance of colors on the tones of red, blue and variations of gray. These few cleverly measured colors bring all the solitude that the world of the game needs to the point of disturbing the mood by a few lights delicately posed at the key moments of the progression. Despite a small color palette, the world of the game wants to bring its touch of realism through special effects and changes in shades of colors that remind that nature can be both warm and cruel. The world of FAR: Lone Sails is a world close to ours, devoid of fantastic creatures and that makes it at the same time more sinister; He allows himself to provoke reflection on our own future and existence on this planet by pursuing the path of industrialization without thinking about the range of consequences. The post-apocalyptic atmosphere rests entirely in its setting by a total absence of a major source of life: water. Alone, the feeling of loneliness is an integral part of the gaming experience in a vast, empty and barren world that makes one realize that the little character we represent is nothing against the world. The remains of the huge metal wrecks and the once-inhabited structures collapse, the glorious past of an advanced civilization slowly rotten to become dust again. "Wonderfully strange ... a game of a moving experience. "Holly Nielsen, The Guardian In a world that is bent on itself, we are still dependent on our vehicle that carries in him the state of loneliness. He does not exist without us and we do not subsist without him. This interdependence is very strong because any hope would be lost without this vehicle that can be sometimes capricious, it is important to take care of it so that it continues to live and take us to the horizon. The technology is part of our lifestyle, illustrated by a simple tracking shot framing the two elements on the screen when we move too far from the iron juggernaut (to recover raw materials for example) to respect their scales respective to the world in which they still exist. The atmosphere becomes heavy, see depressing because the trip seems to lead nowhere and yet hope is looming with the miles accumulated on the meter of the machine. The message is full of hope: rather than pitying one's fate but taking control of one's destiny for a risky journey to unknown lands for better days makes an impact and the urge to overcome obstacles is most beautiful . Rewards on the horizon? Without revealing all the pleasure of the trip, to prepare for the adventure, two DLC (7 €) are available separately or with the digital collector version since the release at 14.99 €: A digital artbook of about forty pages with concepts arts, sketches, visual developments and image rendering characters, buildings or environments. The evolution of character designs since the first arts concepts is in order and will give fans the opportunity to immerse themselves more strongly in the world of FAR: Lone Sails. The soundtrack of the game (digital format) which takes a very important place in the experience creating a unique atmosphere, telling through the notes the sad destiny of a glorious extinct civilization. Written by Joel Schoch in 18 compositions for a total of 45 minutes of happiness for the acoustics of our ears. FAR: Lone Sails is a real little nugget to discover, developed at the base in 2015 as a thesis subject at the University of the Arts in Zurich by Don Schmocker. The positive reception for such a work motivated its creator to lead the boat until the end of May 17, 2018. The prototype will have matured to address a theme more relevant than it seems allowing room for reflection for the more sensitive about the near future. While works of fiction prefer to see a flourishing technological future or even the colonization of new planet; few dwell on the limited resources of the planet and the "after-glory" of our civilization. Success is well deserved for a cleverly crafted title. The change of scenery is guaranteed if a trip by boat train tempts you!

f any two words can strike fear into the hearts of busy parents, they are “school holidays”. With two whole weeks of the Easter break stretching ahead of us, keeping young minds occupied and young bodies off the sofa and away from a phone screen requires military-level planning: how far can you keep children strapped in the car for? What supplies will you need for that hour-long walk at the other end? And how do you keep them engaged and amused throughout? Things are made more challenging when you have different aged kids to cater for, from rambunctious toddlers to hard-to-impress teens.

he head of an Oxford college has pleaded with donors not to withdraw their money amid a row over the university’s links to the British Empire. Professor Maggie Snowling, president of St John's College, has been accused by angry benefactors of backing an attempt to strip the institution of its colonial past, it is understood. A number of donors have said that they will withhold their grants this year in protest, while others have threatened to do so. In a lengthy letter seen by the Sunday Telegraph, Professor Snowling appeals to one furious benefactor to reconsider withdrawing their “kind donation”.
