India's smart home security camera market shipments grew 44 percent year-on-year in 2022, with Xiaomi leading the segment with 33 percent share. Chinese companies like Realme, TP-Link and Hikvision dominated India's home surveillance camera market in 2022 with 77 percent share, market research firm Counterpoint Research said on Thursday. According to Counterpoint's Smart Home IoT Service, only one Indian brand Qubo by Hero Electronix figured among the top six in India's smart home security camera market. It had a market share of 10 percent in 2022. "The market remains dominated by Chinese players, with the Indian brands accounting for 23 percent of total shipments in 2022. The domestic production during the year stood at 12 percent, still very low for an emerging market. "However, we expect domestic manufacturing to pick up in the coming period as more Indian brands look to foray into this market, such as Airtel," Counterpoint Research Analyst Varun Gupta said. India's smart home security camera market shipments grew 44 percent year-on-year in 2022, with Xiaomi leading the segment with 33 percent share. "The market grew significantly in 2022 as more consumers are becoming aware of smart cameras. In a price-sensitive market such as India, the entry-level price point of smart cameras (Rs. 1,500 ) also creates a big demand pull. Shipments in the Rs. 1,500-Rs. 2,500 price band remained the highest in 2022, capturing 64 percent share," Gupta said. Tapo by TP-Link continued to be at the second spot in 2022 with 88 percent annual growth and a 17 percent market share. link: https://www.gadgets360.com/smart-home/news/realm-xiaomi-other-chinese-companies-dominates-india-home-surveillance-camera-iot-counterpoint-3868168

If you use TikTok, Instagram, or any other social media app on your iPhone, you can now scroll without using your fingers. That's right, all you have to do is use your voice and your iPhone will scroll for you. It is a pretty neat trick to show it to your friends and even use it for yourself when your hands are preoccupied elsewhere. Furthermore, the process is quite simple and does not require the use of any third-party apps. Scroll down to read more details on how to scroll TikTok, Instagram, and other apps with voice controls on your iPhone. This is how to easily scroll on TikTok, Instagram, and your other favorite apps using nothing but voice control on your iPhone Social media apps are one of the most time-consuming activities on our smartphones. There is a new trick that lets you scroll on social media and other apps with voice controls on your iPhone. If you want to check it out for yourself, the process is fairly simple. For your ease, we have compiled the list of instructions below that will allow you to scroll on Instagram, TikTok, and other apps using voice controls on your iPhone. Step 1: The first thing that you have to do is launch the Settings app and then head over to Accessibility. Step 2: Scroll down and select Voice Control. Step 3: Tap on Set Up Voice Control. Step 4: Once you do this, tap on Continue and then Done. Step 5: After setting up voice control, head over to Customize Commands and then Create New Command. Step 6: In the field provided, type the phrase that you want to speak for the command to initiate. (In our case, we used the word Next). Step 7: After adding the word or phrase, select Action and then tap on Run Custom Gesture. Step 8: In this section, draw the line from bottom to top as if you are swiping on TikTok or Instagram and select Save. Step 9: Now, navigate back to the command and tap on Application. Select the application where you want the voice command to be applied. Step 10: We chose the Instagram app. After doing this, go back and tap on Save. This is all that you have to do to run a custom voice command for a hands-free scrolling gesture. We would recommend you add another custom gesture to scroll back up on social media. Simply repeat the process and instead of drawing the line from bottom to top, draw it from top to bottom. Furthermore, associate another phrase with it, such as Back. This will allow you to scroll down and up on social media. You might also want to check out how to disable fake photos on Galaxy S23 Ultra. This is all there is to it, folks. This is a pretty neat way to scroll social media with your voice and without actually touching your iPhone. You can learn more about voice control from here, We will share more guides like this in the future, so be sure to stick around. How did you like the trick? Let us know your thoughts in the comments. link: https://wccftech.com/how-to/how-to-scroll-on-tiktok-instagram-and-other-apps-using-your-voice-on-iphone/

AMD's AM5 platform has had its head start with a trio of Ryzen 7000 CPU families based on the Zen 4 core architecture but looking forward, we want to know what else the red team has in plans for its AM5 platform, especially the APU side of things. AMD's AM5 APU Strategy Might Include Two Ryzen Product Lineups: 6nm Rembrandt & 4nm Phoenix The last AMD Ryzen APUs for the desktop segment were launched all the way back in the summer of 2021. These were the Ryzen 5000G series products based on the Zen 3 core architecture along with the Vega graphics core. Since then, AMD has introduced its Ryzen 6000 and Ryzen 7000 APUs for laptops which feature up to Zen 4 core architecture and the brand new RDNA 3 graphics arch. RELATED STORY Hassan Mujtaba ASUS Preps 192 GB DDR5 Memory Support For Its AMD AM5 Motherboards So while the company has released many Ryzen CPU options for its AM4 and AM5 platforms during the 2021-2023 timeframe, the AMD desktop APU lineup seems to be put on hold. But we can make sense of what's going on and why this is the way it is right now. Back when AM4 was introduced, it was first released in the OEM segment and the first lineup to utilize it was the Bristol Ridge family. The AMD Bristol Ridge family didn't utilize the brand-new Zen cores but instead relied on the older Excavator cores (a revision of the Bulldozer cores). These APUs did support the newer DDR4 DRAM standard which was new at the time for the AMD AM4 platform & it was some time before we got to see the proper Zen-based Ryzen APU options in the market. Now based on information within the Gigabyte leak from a few years back (discovered by HXL), it looks like AMD may follow a similar strategy for its AM5 Desktop APU lineup. Within the feature compatibility table, three families of AMD's AM5 processors are listed. We know that the Family 19H (Model 60h-6Fh) is the Ryzen 7000 "Raphael" lineup which has received the X, Non-X & X3D treatment so far. Besides that, there are two additional families which we have yet to see & these are the Family 19h (Model 40h-4fh) and the Family 19h (Model 70h-7Fh). The A40F4H is possibly the AMD Rembrandt (Zen 3+ & RDNA 2) family whereas the A70F71 is the AMD Phoenix (Zen 4 + RDNA 3) family. We know that AMD fabricated its Rembrandt or Ryzen 6000 APU family using the 6nm process node while the Phoenix Ryzen 7000 APUs were fabricated on the 4nm process node. Based on the information available through the chart, the AMD APUs for AM5 have 20 PCIe lanes (likely only Gen 4) and support USB 4 plus several USB 3.2 connections. If AMD was to launch APUs for the AM5 platform, then I guess they would most likely start with the entry-level Rembrandt parts under the Ryzen 3 and Ryzen 5 7000G family while moving on to high-end Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 9 APUs with Phoenix. Or the company might just launch Rembrandt APUs this year followed by Phoenix next year since the desktop APUs are always either several quarters or years away from the laptop APU lineup. Considering that Rembrandt has been out for over a year, the latter makes sense. With DDR5 prices coming down and the AM5 platform prices also getting close to where it should've been in the start, now makes more sense to have some APU options available to the masses. The main obstacle on the part of APUs has been how AMD has marketed them. Almost all recent Desktop APU launches such as the Renoir Ryzen 4000G and the Cezanne Ryzen 5000G parts have been OEM first with a DIY launch either never taking place or happening months after the initial introduction. While the prices for these chips are decent and make for interesting budget builds, keeping them exclusive for the OEM segment has the same effect as what's been going on with the Ryzen Threadripper Pro family for two generations now. Assassin's Creed Mirage sees the series heading to Baghdad Assassin's Creed Mirage looks set to take the long-running series back to its roots when it launches later this year. Since it's reveal, we haven't actually heard all that much about Assassin's Creed Mirage. We're certainly due an update soon. Starring Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s Basim Ibn Ishaq, Assassin’s Creed Mirage is set in Baghdad, 20 years before the events of Valhalla, and will take the decades-spanning series back to its roots. So far, this seems to mean that the game will be smaller in scope, and less of an action-packed RPG. Perhaps this means that stealth and parkour could return in a big way? While we wait for more details from Ubisoft, here's everything we know about Assassin's Creed Mirage so far, from the latest trailers, to the latest news. Assassin's Creed Mirage: cut to the chase What is it? Assassin's Creed game set in Baghdad When can I play it? TBC 2023 What can I play it on? PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC ASSASSIN'S CREED MIRAGE: RELEASE DATE AND PLATFORMS Assassin's Creed Mirage is launching in 2023, though we don't have a specific release date just yet. Ubisoft confirmed the game's existence and release window in 2022, following a ton of leaks around the upcoming title. In terms of platforms, Ubisoft has confirmed that Mirage will be a cross-generation release. As such, expect to see it on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, PC, and cloud streaming service Amazon Luna. There's, unfortunately, no free upgrade between generations, but it's also cheaper than recent big releases, launching for $49.99 / £39.99 RRP. ASSASSIN'S CREED MIRAGE TRAILERS Latest trailer We got our latest official look at Assassin's Creed Mirage during the Ubisoft Forward digital showcase in September 2022. While there's no gameplay footage included, this provided a cinematic look at Mirage's story, which you can check out in full below: More trailers Unfortunately, we have only received one trailer for Assassin's Creed Mirage so far. As soon as we see more, you will find this page to be updated with more trailers. ASSASSIN'S CREED MIRAGE: STORY AND SETTING Assassin's Creed Mirage is taking the series back to basics: set in Baghdad 20 years before Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Basim Ibn Ishaq, who was introduced in Valhalla, takes center stage. According to reports, Mirage began as a Valhalla spin-off before escalating into its own fully fledged entry. Basim is part of the first Assassin Brotherhood, and Mirage takes us on one of his earlier adventures. Here, he's being taught by Roshan, a Persian assassin portrayed by Shohreh Aghdashloo. Rather than the open-world RPG gameplay of more recent years, Assassin's Creed Mirage focuses on stealth and parkour once again. As such, expect a smaller experience overall, likely around 15 to 20 hours. When asked about the game's length in an IGN(opens in new tab) interview, executive producer Marc-Alexis Côté said, "Not everything has to be a 150 hour RPG, right?”, confirming: “It is a smaller Assassin's Creed project. This was conceived [and] built to celebrate the 15th anniversary. So that's why we're using our modern Valhalla engine to build a smaller game that pays tribute to our original game by focusing more on stealth, on close-quarter combat, on parkour, and a denser city that goes back to our roots in the Middle East with Baghdad as the centerpiece.” link: https://www.techradar.com/news/assassins-creed-mirage-everything-we-know-so-far

This is a PC-only app but can work in tandem with Fortnite Creative creators on console. Custom creations were already a notable part of Fortnite, but Epic Games plans on launching them to new heights with Unreal Editor for Fortnite. The PC-only editor will offer Unreal Engine 5 toolsets to build games and experiences within the battle royale juggernaut. Unreal Editor for Fortnite is an add-on for Fortnite and will launch March 22. Unlike Fortnite Creative--the current option to develop experiences within the game--this PC app won't require users to control a character within the environment while developing. That said, Epic does mention it will "work side-by-side with Fortnite’s existing Creative toolset, and teams of creators can work together across PC and console to develop and test islands in real-time." Fortnite Creative has been around for years now, with one player even recreating the original Fortnite map called Athena Royale. Creative maps also have been an easy way to grind some XP in Fortnite too. Epic recently launched Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2, which is called Mega. One of the newest points of interest is Mega City, a neon-dripped metropolitian area with Japanese influence. There's also Attack on Titan crossover content with the new season. Gamespot took the time to rank all of the Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 Battle Pass skins. link: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/epic-announces-unreal-editor-for-fortnite-arriving-next-week/1100-6512398/

A new map, gun, and party modes arrived in Modern Warfare 2 today. There's a prevailing narrative among Call of Duty fans that the standard, 6v6 Call of Duty doesn't get as much attention(opens in new tab) from Activision as its free-to-play battle royale cousin, Warzone 2. While Warzone players enjoy map updates, franchise crossover modes, and frequent balancing changes, those playing Call of Duty the old fashioned way (and pay $70 to do so) settle for the occasional new map, gun, and playlist update. For once, it's traditional 6v6 Call of Duty getting more love on patch day. Modern Warfare 2's Season 2 Reloaded patch(opens in new tab), out today, is packing a new "core" multiplayer map, the next episode of MW2's co-op raid, a new DMR based on the M4, and the second drop of party modes to lighten the mood after a night of ranked. Here's the rundown: New map: Himmelmatt Expo New gun: Tempus Torrent Marksman Rifle (also usable in Warzone) Atomgrad co-op raid episode 2 Party modes: One in the Chamber, All or Nothing, Drop Zone Warzone anniversary camos Path of the Ronin event camo challenges Party queue feature Activision surprised Modern Warfare 2 players last month when, in a likely bid to soothe complaints about the premium side of CoD, announced that a 6v6 map would arrive in season 2 ahead of schedule. "The @InfinityWard MP team has decided to move the map up, as it’s already play testing well and tracking ahead of schedule," the Call of Duty Twitter account tweeted(opens in new tab) at the time. That map is today's Himmelmatt Expo, a modernist mountainside chalet drenched in blues, browns, and grays. You can tell it's a realistic expo hall built for business-trips-that-are-actually-vacations because among the meeting rooms and reception desks are a bar, restaurant, and pool. Guess they'll have to add bullet holes and RPG craters to the brochure. If a single new map doesn't do it for ya, maybe you'll have fun with the Tempus Torrent marksman rifle, a single-fire shooter joining the existing M4 gun tree. It's got a 20-round base magazine and a reportedly fast fire rate, a winning combo for a DMR hoping to compete with full-auto rifles, but Activision says you'll need to contend with a "noticeable kick up and to the left." Luckily, you'll probably be able to kit up the Tempus with full attachments immediately. As an M4 platform gun, most grips, sights, and stocks unlocked for those guns carry over to this one. Typically new CoD guns can only be unlocked on the battle pass at first, but since this one's arriving in the middle of a season, you'll need to score 25 double kills with marksman rifles (or buy a Tempus cosmetic bundle in the store to get it early). That's a pretty steep challenge! Marksman rifles aren't the snappiest guns in the first place, so multikills might be a struggle, but with a little luck and a good camping spot you can pull it off in an afternoon or two. Those party modes sound pretty fun, too. All or Nothing starts everyone with an empty pistol and throwing knives. Earn perks by scoring kills, "starting with the Scavenger Perk to allow for ammo pickups." Drop Zone sounds like Headquarters with care package drops, which is meh, but I'm most excited for the return of a Blacks Ops classic: One in the Chamber. Rules are simple: bullets are a one-hit kill, and everyone has one bullet. Kills grant a new bullet (including melee). Some Call of Duty traditions feel out of date and tired (like killstreaks), but party modes never go out of style. In the footnotes of today's patch is a new social feature that seems tremendously useful. With "party queue," you can join a friend's party while they're still in an ongoing match and then automatically join them in matchmaking once it's over. It's never fun to refresh the social tab until the "join party" button is finally available, so this is a win. Overwatch 2 has had this feature for a long time, except in that game you can spectate your friend's match while you wait, so get on that Activision. link: https://www.pcgamer.com/in-call-of-dutys-latest-update-modern-warfare-2-got-all-the-love/

The new chairman of north Wales' largest health board says he is not sure if its brand is repairable. Dyfed Edwards said Betsi Cadwaladr health board had to get to a "good place" before reorganising or rebranding. It is in special measures again after a damning audit report. Since then, ministers have been under pressure to sack executives after the report criticised how the organisation was run. Mr Edwards said executives need to "take stock" of their place in the organisation and decide if its best they consider "other options". He assured the public that the board is safe, but acknowledged that it has to improve "in a number of areas" and that safety should be at the top of its priorities "at all times". As well as reports on its leadership, Betsi Cadwaladr health board has been criticised over its health services, particular in vascular and emergency medicine. Health board in special measures for second time Wales' largest NHS board is dysfunctional - report Damning reports after catastrophic deaths Health Minister Eluned Morgan appointed former Gwynedd council leader Dyfed Edwards as the new chair of Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board after she forced the resignations of all of its independent board members. She placed the board into special measures after a report by the Auditor General for Wales, Adrian Crompton, heavily criticised the leadership of the body. It called the executive team dysfunctional, and said working relationships between board members and executives had broken down. The two groups have distinct roles - while executives were responsible for the day to day running of the organisation, board members set broad strategy and scrutinise their decisions. Independent board members protested at the decision for them to go, accusing the Welsh government of not grasping the situation and questioning the focus on them when they were challenging the executives. In the fallout of special measures being brought in, First Minister Mark Drakeford has said that some executives may not remain at Betsi Cadwaladr. But the Welsh government has avoided saying they will be sacked. Speaking to BBC Wales in his first interview, Mr Edwards said he had a discussion about the job a week before he took the role. "I think of it as strangely an opportunity because we are in a challenging position. But I think we can create success. "It's going to take time," he said. "But I have seen things around me that are encouraging." Mr Edwards, asked if the boards' brand was irreparable, said it was an "interesting question". "Sometimes, something sticks with a brand and then it does not matter what you do. It's broken and you need to reset. "I'm not sure about the answer to that at the moment. "I think the important thing when you reorganise, you do it from a position of strength, whatever it is, whether you change your name, or change your formation. "So let's get to a good place." He insisted that the next board meeting will see the same personnel that are at the board currently. But he added: "Whether we are executive members or independent members, we have to take stock and ask ourselves: are we able to contribute to the success of Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board going forward?" "Then I think its right that people say, 'yes we're going on a journey, I want to be part of that, or perhaps its best I consider other options at the moment'." He said the vacant post of chief executive will be filled quickly, and that the board has to improve "in a number of areas". "On top of the list at all times will be safety - that's something we're very keen to look at, to make sure the services we provide are safe." "The second thing is the bigger question of who is coming through the front door and how are people getting out through the back door." "We need to improve and there's an awareness of that." But he assured the public that the service is safe to use. "I can say and I know, as a user of health services myself on my family, I know of the quality service that it provides." link: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-wales-politics-64975977

A previously unknown frog species was discovered in Ecuador and named after fantasy author J. R. R. Tolkien. Scientists in Ecuador have discovered a newfound species of stream frog with pale pink eyes and gold-speckled toes that looks like it came straight out of Middle-earth. That's why the researchers who discovered it named it Hyloscirtus tolkieni after J. R. R. Tolkien, the author of "The Hobbit'' and "The Lord of the Rings" books. "The new species of frog has amazing colors, and it would seem that it lives in a universe of fantasies, like those created by Tolkien," Diego F. Cisneros-Heredia(opens in new tab), director of the Museum of Zoology of the Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ) and associate researcher of the National Institute of Biodiversity in Ecuador, said in a statement(opens in new tab). The researchers describe the "Lord of the Rings'' frog in a study published Jan. 19 in the journal ZooKeys(opens in new tab). H. tolkieni is 2.6 inches long (6.5 centimeters) and grayish green in color. Black spots dot its golden-yellow throat, belly, flanks and the undersides of its legs. The frog's fingers and toes too, are covered in black specks and broad skin stripes. The creature boasts an arresting pair of dusty pink eyes with black irises, which reminded the researchers of the otherworldly animals in their beloved author’s fantasy worlds. Related: Adorable 'chocolate frog' discovered in crocodile infested swamp Scientists discovered H. tolkieni in the Río Negro-Sopladora National Park, a largely unstudied area of pristine páramo (alpine tundra) and cloud forest protected since 2018 and covering more than 185,000 acres (75,000 hectares). Like other species of stream frog, this critter lives in the clear mountain rivers and streams of the high Andes. Tadpoles mature near rocks in the rapids, while adult stream frogs prefer the protection of lush vegetation on the river banks. "For weeks, we explored different areas of the Río Negro-Sopladora National Park, walking from páramo grasslands at 3,100 meters [10 thousand feet] elevation to forests at 1,000 m [3.3 thousand feet]. We found a single individual of this new species of frog, which we found impressive due to its coloration and large size," Juan Carlos Sánchez Nivicela(opens in new tab), also an associate researcher at the Museum of Zoology at USFQ and the National Institute of Biodiversity, said in the statement. Scientific expeditions in this region of Ecuador have led to the discovery of a large number of new species since 2020. "The tropical Andes are magical ecosystems where some of the most wonderful species of flora, funga, and fauna in the world are present," Cisneros-Heredia said. "Unfortunately, few areas are well protected from the negative impacts caused by humans. Deforestation, unsustainable agricultural expansion, mining, invasive species, and climate changes are seriously affecting Andean biodiversity." As a result, 57% of amphibian species in Ecuador are at risk of extinction, according to the statement. link: https://www.livescience.com/otherworldly-lord-of-the-rings-frog-discovered-in-the-mountains-of-ecuador

Jeep had previously shown off a couple of Wrangler-based teasers, but has now hinted at a modified Grand Cherokee that will be shown at the Easter Jeep Safari. Jeep showed off two new teasers ahead of the 2023 Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah. The brand uses the event, now in its 57th year, as a showcase for new concept vehicles. The company released the first two "trail markers" hinting at what it will bring to the event scheduled for April 1–9, 2023. UPDATE 3/16/23: Jeep revealed three new teasers for the concepts that will debut at the Easter Jeep Safari. The first image, seen above, appears to show the same green vehicle that was previously teased with a two-door pickup body. The other two images, seen at the bottom of this article, appear show a Gladiator or Wrangler Rubicon and a Grand Cherokee in red and purple color schemes without any obvious modifications. Jeep Nation rejoice! The Easter Jeep Safari is nearly upon us. This year will mark the 57th Safari, and true to form, Jeep has started hinting at the wild concepts it will bring. The first two teasers—or "trail markers," as Jeep is calling them—were released today. Rather than images or renderings, the company showed off two eye-catching sketches. The first sketch shows what looks to be a muscled-up two-door version of the Gladiator truck wearing a wide set of knobby off-road-ready tires hiding under what look to be the largest fenders we've ever spotted on a Jeep. From what we can tell by squinting through the blinding green haze of the sketch, the driver's-side mirror has migrated from the A-pillar and now rests directly in front of the enlarged front fender. The second sketch has a bit more muted color scheme, which seems to be Jeep's way of showing off the blue-trimmed 4xe font. This concept looks like a more straightforward Wrangler Rubicon off-roader, and we can once again spot enlarged fenders. Unlike in the Green Giant sketch, the mirror placement in this sketch look standard. One element that's not standard is that the doors have been replaced by tube half-doors, while the rear windows are replaced by some sort of Jeep Performance Parts (JPP) utility rack. Last year Jeep brought a whopping seven concept vehicles to the event. We think it's a safe bet that they will bring at least that many this year as well. Two more each week between now and the start of the Easter Jeep Safari would bring the total to eight, topping last year's figure. link:" https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a43276094/jeep-teaser-revealed-ahead-of-2023-easter-jeep-safari/

I’ve found so many life-enhancing kitchen utensils on Instagram that I’ll have to share them with you. It’s the thoughtlessness that counts Sometimes, in pursuit of a better life, I turn to the ads on Instagram, because the world is always better there. It has the gloss you get off a coffee table that’s just had a polish after a spray of Mr Sheen. When you look at Instagram you hope to see your own face reflected back at you, only prettier. For here are an array of devices specifically engineered to make working in the kitchen a more blissful experience; a place where you can cook un-aproned in a white shirt and never get stained; where your hair will always be glossy, and your mood so serene that Buddhist monks will tap you up for wisdom. I trust Instagram. Perhaps, as Mother’s Day is upon us, you have considered having a browse here too for gifts. Because as we all know, it’s the thoughtlessness that counts. A chef friend of mine has a cast-iron rule that no gadget in his kitchen can have a single use. His rice cooker is also a slow cooker. The toastie maker can be used to grill vegetables. The frying pan can be used to smack intruders across the head, and so on. While I understand the decluttering instinct, this is to miss out on some life enhancing fabulousness. For example, until I saw it for myself on Instagram, I didn’t know there was a moulded yellow plastic cuff called the Chef’n Cob Corn Stripper solely designed to get the kernels off ears of corn. Oh, what sweet corn kernel-stripping joy we could have together. Inevitably, I started scrolling. I was thrilled to come across the wonder of non-stick silicone kitchen spatula tongs. They have a little hammock of flexible silicone in fluorescent green, between the ends of the tongs so you can, I don’t know, rock your vegetables to sleep while you lift them out of the pan. Not interested? How about the metal plunging tube that is the pineapple corer. To meet my pal’s ban on single-use items, I’m sure you could carry out a non-elective full-frontal lobotomy on an annoying family member with it, so there’s that. Not for you? Then surely you want the Chef’n Stalkchop Cauliflower Prep Tool for getting the stalks out of cauliflowers. And only cauliflowers. Because using a knife would be so pre-social media. Or a pizza cutter in which the round blade is the wheel of a mini bicycle. Or a garlic crusher shaped like a kind of giant knuckle duster, which you rock back and forth over the cloves, while sustaining a beatific grin on your stupid face. I blink. All of a sudden I am back in my own kitchen which doesn’t have a cauliflower corer or a bicycle-shaped pizza cutter. I realise that, as I age, my real-world kitchen-kit desires have become so much simpler. I want a pepper grinder that always works, and not just one that functions for the first three months. I want a cafetiere which doesn’t always dribble when you pour from it. I want a glass measuring jug from which the scale hasn’t rubbed off with time, so that you end up squinting at the measurements on the side like Mr Magoo. That’s it. Nothing more. Then, like the addict I am, I glance at my phone and see an Instagram advert for a bright orange oval-shaped piece of plastic with holes of different sizes. It costs a mere £10. It’s for stripping the leaves off fresh herbs. I realise that what I really want is, yes, the functional pepper grinder, the non-drip cafetiere and the age-resistant measuring jug. But also, the herb stripper. That is what will make my kitchen life complete. The US military has released footage of a Russian jet crashing into one of its drones over the Black Sea. The US said the damage to the large drone meant it had to be brought down into the water near Crimea on Tuesday. Russia denied its Su-27 fighter jet clipped the propeller of the drone, but the video appears to back up the American version of events. It was in the Pentagon's interest to release this video - not least to verify its version of events. The BBC has not seen the events before or after the collision. The US initially said the confrontation lasted around 30-40 minutes, but the released footage lasts for less than a minute. On Wednesday night, US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin said: "We remain confident in the facts we've conveyed so far." He said then the Pentagon was looking at what video could be released. It is not unusual for militaries to take some time to declassify video footage before making it public. Mr Austin previously described Russia's actions as dangerous and reckless - and the edited video released appears to back that up. A feed from a camera fitted under the fuselage of the surveillance drone shows a Russian Su-27 making two extremely close passes while releasing what appears to be fuel as it approaches. In the first pass it seems to mire the lens of the camera. The second pass is even closer - disrupting the video feed from the remotely piloted aircraft. When the picture returns, a blade of the drone's propeller at the back of the aircraft can be seen bent out of shape. National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told the BBC's US broadcast partner CBS that it was not clear whether the Russian action was deliberate or accidental. But he said this did not matter because the moves were "completely inappropriate, unsafe and unprofessional". Surveillance flights would continue over the Black Sea, he said, but there was no need for military escorts, which he said were unnecessary and would put pilots at risk. Russia has claimed the drone was approaching its territory, but all we can see from the video is sea, sky and cloud. Moscow appeared to suggest on Tuesday that it had imposed a unilateral no-fly zone over the region as part of its invasion of Ukraine. Russian Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov said the drone had "violated boundaries of the temporary airspace regime established for the special military operation". But Mr Kirby said the airspace was international and not restricted. What to know about the US-Russia drone row In a statement released hours after the crash, the US said Russian jets dumped fuel on the drone several times before the collision. Pentagon spokesman Brig Gen Pat Ryder told reporters the drone was "unflyable and uncontrollable", adding the collision also likely damaged the Russian aircraft. Russia's defence ministry said the drone crashed after a "sharp manoeuvre", and that it was flying with its transponders (communication devices) turned off. The Kremlin has not yet responded to the release of the US video. On Wednesday Russia's security council secretary Nikolai Patrushev said attempts were being made to find and retrieve the remnants of the drone. On Thursday, Russian ships were seen at the site of the downed drone on the Black Sea, US media reported. Mr Kirby said the US was also searching for the aircraft, but stressed that if Russia beat them to it, "their ability to exploit useful intelligence will be highly minimised". That message was reiterated by General Mark Milley, America's top military general, who said the US has taken "mitigating measures" to ensure there was nothing of value on the downed drone. link: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-64975766
