Kate Forbes, who finished second in the SNP leadership race, is to leave the Scottish government. The BBC understands the finance secretary was offered a move to rural affairs by the new first minister, Humza Yousaf, but turned down the job. Her departure came hours after the new SNP leader was confirmed as Scotland's first minister after a vote in the Scottish Parliament. The post she was offered by Mr Yousaf would be seen as a major demotion. Ms Forbes later tweeted that Mr Yousaf had her "full support" and said: "I have full confidence he will appoint a talented cabinet and ministerial team, able to meet the challenges facing the country." She had been on maternity leave from her role when Nicola Sturgeon resigned as first minister and SNP leader last month. Profile: Who is Kate Forbes? Yousaf confirmed as Scotland's new first minister Shona Robison to be Scottish deputy first minister Mr Yousaf was elected as first minister after being backed by his own MSPs and the Scottish Greens, which guaranteed him a majority over the opposition party leaders. He becomes Scotland's youngest first minister, at the age of 37, and the first Muslim to lead a major UK party. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak spoke to Mr Yousaf to congratulate him on Tuesday. Ms Forbes had launched a highly-personal attack on Mr Yousaf during the SNP leadership contest when she questioned whether he was capable of being first minister during a live STV debate. She told Mr Yousaf: "You were transport minister and the trains were never on time, when you were justice secretary the police were stretched to breaking point, and now as health minister we've got record high waiting times". Ms Forbes came under fire from senior SNP colleagues during the campaign over her socially conservative views on issues like abortion and gay marriage, with Mr Yousaf warning the party against a "lurch to the right". Her beliefs as a member of the evangelical Free Church of Scotland also clash with those of the Scottish Greens, who had threatened to walk away from their power-sharing agreement with the SNP if she had won the contest. Speaking shortly after being confirmed as the new first minister on Tuesday afternoon, Mr Yousaf said he had spoken to Ms Forbes and "absolutely" wanted her to remain in government - but it was not known at that stage what role she had been offered or whether she would accept. Mr Yousaf narrowly defeated Ms Forbes by 26,032 votes to 23,890 to become SNP leader on Monday after a contest that exposed deep divisions within the party. The result was closer than many people expected, and showed that Ms Forbes has considerable support among grassroots SNP members despite Mr Yousaf being backed by the party hierarchy. Polling expert Prof Sir John Curtice has said Ms Forbes appeared to be more po[CENSORED]r than Mr Yousaf with Scottish voters as a whole. Ms Forbes congratulated Mr Yousaf after he was confirmed as the new SNP leader on Monday, saying: "Whatever the robust disagreements or frank exchanges of the last few weeks, I am confident we will unite behind Humza as our new party leader in the shared and common objective of independence". The pair also embraced in the Scottish Parliament chamber after the vote that saw him also appointed as the country's sixth first minister. Following the vote, Mr Yousaf announced that Shona Robison - who has been serving as the social justice secretary and was a close ally of Ms Sturgeon - would be appointed as his deputy first minister. Scottish Conservative chairman Craig Hoy said Mr Yousaf had "poured petrol on the SNP civil war". "Kate Forbes' furious snub to his offer of a cabinet demotion shows his mission to reunite their feuding party is doomed to failure," he said. "It makes a mockery of his claim only yesterday that: 'We are no longer team Humza, or team Ash, or team Kate, we are one team.' The reality is the SNP are divided from top to bottom." In his conversation with the new first minister on Tuesday, the prime minister is said to have reiterated his desire to "continue working constructively with the Scottish government". After his victory, Mr Yousaf promised he would "argue tirelessly for independence" He raised the question of an independence referendum during their call, but Mr Sunak suggested this would "distract" from "delivering on the things that are top of the priority list for people across Scotland". Earlier in the day, Nicola Sturgeon officially tendered her resignation as Scotland's first minister in a letter to the King. Rural affairs is a big job in government, and one that might have been close to Kate Forbes' heart given her distinctly rural constituency. But it is not on the same level as finance secretary, which is one of the very top jobs in government. So it was not a surprise to hear Ms Forbes had turned it down - given how close she ran Mr Yousaf in the leadership contest, she would have wanted a big job, and a significant degree of autonomy to run her department. Between her, Nicola Sturgeon and John Swinney, there is going to be a lot of talent and experience sitting on the back benches. This was the first in a series of tricky decisions for the incoming first minister. He will have wanted Ms Forbes on side, in a bid to reunite the SNP after a fractious leadership contest. But he may also have been wary of allowing her to build her own power base - especially given her own standing is only a few percentage points behind his own within the party. And he will have promised some plum jobs to those who supported his candidacy, rather than trash it as Ms Forbes did in public debates. It's an early crash course in the challenges of running a government for the new first minister. link: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-65105951

Fossils of a 70 million-year-old platypus relative called Patagorhynchus pascuali found in South America show that egg-laying mammals evolved on more than one continent. Around 70 million years ago, a small, furry, platypus-like creature shuffled along the banks of an ancient lake. This would not have been a remarkable occurrence, except for one thing: The lake was in present-day Argentina, not Australia. The creature, dubbed Patagorhynchus pascuali, is the oldest fossil of the egg-laying mammal group known as monotremes ever discovered in South America. The discovery may rewrite the story of where these oddball early mammals evolved. Today, all five species of living monotremes — which include the platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus), the short-beaked echidna (Tachyglossus aculeatus) and three species of long-beaked echidnas (Zaglossus) — are found exclusively in Australia and a few of its surrounding islands. So how did a platypus ancestor wind up so far from Down Under? Millions of years ago, Australia, South America and Antarctica (as well as parts of Africa and Asia) were smooshed together in a supercontinent called Gondwana. This mega landmass began to break up about 180 million years ago, during the Jurassic period, but didn't fully separate until about 66 million years ago, at the end of the Cretaceous period. Because more recent monotreme fossils have been found in South America, scientists previously speculated that the group evolved on the Australian landmass after this continental breakup and later migrated back to South America across a land bridge. But the fact that P. pascuali existed in Argentina before the continental breakup tells a different story. "Our discovery clearly demonstrates that Monotremes didn't evolve uniquely in the Australian continent, but also in other parts of southern Gondwana," study co-author Fernando Novas(opens in new tab), a paleontologist at the Bernardino Rivadavia Natural Science Museum in Buenos Aires, Argentina, told Live Science in an email. Related: Prickly echidnas stay cool by blowing snot bubbles The specimen, which was described in the journal Communications Biology(opens in new tab) on Feb. 16, was identified by a fragment of a lower jaw containing a molar. When it comes to studying fossilized mammal remains, "teeth give us a huge amount of information," Robin Beck(opens in new tab), an evolutionary biologist at the University of Salford in the U.K. who was not involved in the study, told Live Science in an email. In the case of monotremes, though, dental identification is a bit more complicated. "Living platypuses lack teeth," Novas said. But another extinct platypus relative, the 30 million-year-old Obdurodon, retained teeth in both its upper and lower jaws. The P. pascuali molar closely resembled these teeth, as well as the very small, imperfect teeth that baby platypuses briefly possess. Based on its teeth and apparent habitat, P. pascuali likely had a diet similar to that of a modern platypus: mainly, small aquatic invertebrates, including insect larvae and snails. The Argentinian fossil bed where it was discovered bears this out; Novas said that they found insects and snail shells in the sediments around P. pascuali. Additionally, the researchers uncovered the fossilized remains of other early mammals, turtles, frogs, snakes, aquatic plants and a variety of dinosaurs. While the discovery constitutes an important and interesting new piece of the monotreme evolutionary puzzle, researchers are still far from a complete picture. "There are still huge gaps in the monotreme fossil record," Beck said. For instance, although no monotreme fossils have been discovered in Antarctica, given its previous proximity to Australia and South America, there are likely ancient platypus bones deep beneath the ice. But as a South American paleontologist, Novas said, it's pretty cool to know that "the great grand-father of the Australian Ornithorhynchus was Argentinian." link: https://www.livescience.com/ancient-platypus-like-fossil-could-rewrite-the-history-of-egg-laying-mammals

The Tonale Edizione Bambini has a baby-changing station and a baby monitor to make traveling with kids less stressful. The Alfa Romeo Tonale Edizione Bambini is an interesting concept that prioritizes toddlers. The one-off Tonale is a parent-focused concept intended to add practical parenting accessories to the car. Titled the Tonale Edizione Bambini, the concept has a station for changing diapers, an in-car baby monitor, and a host of new storage accessories. Parenting is hard—or so we're told. Alfa Romeo, which hasn't yet started deliveries for its upcoming Tonale subcompact SUV, has revealed the Edizione Bambini concept that's designed to make parenting while driving less stressful. The Alfa Romeo Tonale Edizione Bambini is quite the mouthful. Bambini, as you may have guessed, translates from Alfa's native Italian to mean "baby." It's a fitting name once you look inside the concept. The one-off Tonale is Alfa's answer to tired parents who want to maintain the elegance of a luxury vehicle but are just too damned tired to clean the thing. The trunk of the Bambini is completely overhauled to cater to parenting duties. An in-car vacuum is stored along the back of the trunk, with storage organizers taking up the space in front of it. An Alfa Romeo–badged baby-changing station replaces the standard trunk cover and slides in and out as needed. Nothing says elegance quite like a small poop stain from one really bad day. Organizer slots are added to the back of the front driver and passenger seats in an attempt to cure childhood boredom. Alfa also added tablet holders to the back of the front seats to keep your kids occupied. Plus, children sitting in the middle seat have their own leather folder that can hold both a tablet and their own reward chart to minimize back-seat arguing. Alfa conducted a survey of 2000 U.K. parents with children aged zero to 11 years old to learn that children kick the back of the front seats roughly three to five times per trip. To counter this, the design team for the Bambini added protective panels to maintain style. The back of the front seats also have new storage spaces for a water bottle, bento box, tablet holder, and a chart to encourage children to keep the car clean. Is the lack of storage really the biggest issue parents have with young children and keeping a clean car? Is a bento box really going to keep toddlers from somehow spilling more Cheerios than they consume? We doubt it, but props to Alfa for trying to solve an impossible problem. link: https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a43438574/alfa-romeo-tonale-edizione-bambini-concept/

Not long ago, a friend said – in passing, as though it was so obvious that it didn’t bear any examination – that nobody would willingly choose to live their life again from the beginning if they couldn’t bring with them the benefit of hindsight. I would, I said instantly. I’d go back and do it all over again, no problem. In fact, I’d prefer not to have any hindsight: the idea of starting over and trying to live an unimpeachable life strikes me as a particular kind of torture. No, I’d go from day one, a blank baby, just for the hell of it. The concept of regret is difficult for me – not because I believe myself to have lived particularly well, but because to revise any decision could mean not meeting all the people I love, or not going to all the places that mean the most to me. Rather than specific regrets, I tend to harbour a large, free-floating dread that I will one day feel remorse about the way I live more generally – the biggest and most troubling element of this pre-regret being my decision to leave Ireland. It’s easy to justify my move, objectively. In a sense, I had given myself no choice but to leave, and fast, having burned down a relationship and a job and fallen for somebody whose mild but authentic disdain for certain aspects of Irish culture had begun to rub off on me. I had given Dublin a shot for seven years after leaving school and nothing good had come of it. Why not cut my losses? In a larger, less concrete, sense, though, I feel that the absence at my centre is partly to do with placelessness. The longer I stay away, the less I feel completely truthful when I tell people I’m Irish, although I’m certainly nothing else. But when I return to Ireland, I don’t experience any estrangement; I’m right at home again and without anything to prove. In New York, where I’ve been for the past few months, I turn hungrily on the street when I hear another Irish person on the phone. I stare beseechingly at Irish bar staff: ask me where I’m from, I think. Of course, there are also things about which anyone who moves away from home might feel a wistful regret. I’ve met my nephew only a handful of times, for instance, and will miss his pivotal early years, bar brief holiday interludes, during which I have to introduce myself anew. I am the only member of my close family not to live in Ireland and, with each year that passes, I hear my accent dwindle into a neutral transatlantic drawl. I find myself wondering what I sound like to people back home and how I would sound had I never left. I could handle the downsides of leaving if I didn’t also harbour the suspicion that these sacrifices will reveal themselves, ultimately, to have been in service of absolutely nothing. Many people leave their home country with specific, meaningful goals. They work hard and establish enough of a new foundation to feel the loss is justified. But how can I justify my losses? Yes there has been much laughter, a couple of novels, but also the harrowing morning panic that nothing I do has any weight; the suspicion that I have failed to become a real human being and now it’s too late. I won’t know for certain until the end of my life, but, for now, I fear that the things I left behind will never be offset on the balance sheet of life – that I will be left thinking only of what I chose to eschew, not what I chased after. link: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2023/mar/28/my-biggest-regret-was-it-a-mistake-to-leave-ireland-for-new-york

The first shipment of Leopard 2 tanks from Germany has been sent to Ukraine, the German defence ministry says. Eighteen cutting-edge main battle tanks were delivered after Ukrainian crews were trained to use them. Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said he was sure the tanks could "make a decisive contribution" on the frontlines of the war. Challenger 2 tanks from the UK have also arrived, according to reports from Ukraine. Ukraine has been calling for more modern vehicles and weapon systems for months to help fight Russia's invasion. The Ukrainian government is yet to comment on the arrival of the Leopard 2s, but they have confirmed the arrival of the first UK-made Challenger 2 tanks. Around 2,000 Leopard 2s, widely regarded as being among the best main battle tanks produced by Nato countries, are in use by European countries. Germany agreed to supply the tanks to Ukraine in January, after being initially reluctant to do so - or even to permit other countries from sending their own. Under German law, Berlin must approve Leopard 2s being re-exported by any country. German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said the tanks "have made it into the hands of our Ukrainian friends as promised and on time". The German army has trained Ukrainian tank crews to use the advanced A6 variant of the Leopard 2 over the past several weeks. They have been specifically designed to compete with the Russian T-90 main battle tank and is considered to be easier to maintain and more fuel-efficient than most other Western tanks. On top of the Leopard 2s, Germany has also sent Ukraine two specialist tank-recovery vehicles and 40 Marder infantry fighting vehicles. Meanwhile, Challenger 2 tanks from the UK "are in Ukraine already", defence ministry spokeswoman Iryna Zolotar told AFP news agency. Posting a picture of a Challenger 2 alongside other Western-made military vehicles on his Facebook page, Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov described the British vehicle as a work of military art. The UK Ministry of Defence declined to comment but earlier confirmed Ukrainian tank crews training in Britain had returned home after completing their training with the tanks. link: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-65095126

Spanish citizen Felix Ramos was arrested for rape, child abuse, and human trafficking in 2019. Rabat - Moroccan NGO “Touche pas a mon enfant” (Do not touch my child) has praised the eight-year prison sentence to Spaniard Felix Ramos for his involvement in human trafficking, rape, and child abuse. A statement from the organization said they “welcomed” the decision to uphold the sentence, adding that Ramos was also ordered to pay a MAD 60,000 ($5,800) fine for the victims. “This case had generated wide media coverage for the rapes perpetrated on minors in a Tangier shelter in 2019, and had seen several twists,” the statement continued. Congratulating the outcome of the case the statement read: “We salute the work of the judicial authorities who conducted this investigation with rigor and impartiality.” The sentence was initially decided in 2020, but the Court of Appeal in Tetouan granted a reduction to three years in prison for the defendant’s “health problems and need for medical treatment.” The reduced sentence was denounced by the NGO, who said in their latest statement that they mobilized to intervene in Morocco’s civil institutions and appeal for the reduced sentence to be overturned. “Thanks to the mobilization of our members and that of the Moroccan Association for Human Rights, the case was referred to cassation and the sentence of eight years' imprisonment and compensation to the victims of MAD 60,000 were confirmed,” the statement said. The NGO continued to note that a sentence for a case like this could entail 20 years in prison, but that they hoped the eight-year sentence would serve as a deterrent to anyone who might commit such acts against children. They added that they will continue to work to protect minors from abuse and violence. When returning to Morocco from Spain in 2019, Ramos was arrested in Tangier for fraud, before a 19-year old young man also accused him of raping him. link: https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2023/03/354730/moroccan-ngo-commends-eight-year-sentence-in-pedophilia-case

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 could debut in Shimmery Gold and Coral Green colourways, according to the leaked video. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 concept video has been leaked online, giving smartphone enthusiasts an idea of what to expect from the company's next generation foldable phone. The device is seen in the video posted to YouTube in collaboration with a tipster. The handset is shown in two colourways, while sporting a design language similar to the recently launched Galaxy S23 series. The video also shows off the Galaxy Fold Edition S Pen, which is expected to be sold as a separate accessory due to the purported lack of a stylus slot on the upcoming foldable phone. According to the video posted by Technizo Concept on YouTube in collaboration with tipster Super Roader, Samsung's upcoming flagship foldable phone, believed to be the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, may follow the same design language adopted by Samsung for its flagship Galaxy S23 series. A similar design can also be seen on recent smartphone launched by the South Korean giant in the affordable and mid-range segment. In the latest concept video of the purported Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, the foldable device is seen sporting three vertically aligned distinct camera cutouts with a single LED flash below them. The same design, as previously mentioned, was first seen on the Galaxy S23 series. However, tipster Ice Universe suggests the upcoming foldable device will differ from the Samsung Galaxy S23 in terms of size and thickness, owing to the external display. In the video, the foldable handset is shown to feature a teardrop-style hinge at the fold. A report by MySmartPrice suggests that the hinge is seen in the video ensuring that the gap between the two halves of the smartphone is much less when it is folded, due to the presence of the teardrop-style hinge. The suggestion of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 featuring a similar design to the Samsung Galaxy S23 series, which debuted last year as the company's flagship smartphone series, was previously made by tipster Ice Universe on Twitter. The alleged concept render also visualises the Galaxy Fold Edition S Pen, which is expected to be sold as a separate accessory, as the foldable smartphone is tipped to arrive without an S Pen slot. The smartphone is seen in the video in two colourways, Shimmery Gold and Coral Green. Both colour variants are shown to feature matching sides with a glossy finish. Samsung Galaxy A34 5G Variant With 6GB of RAM Could Launch at This Price Samsung Tipped to Launch a Phone With a Tri-Fold Display This Year Xiaomi Reports Record Drop in Q4 Revenue, Here's How It Performed in India In the video the SIM card slot is visible on the left side of the purported Galaxy Z Fold 5, while the volume buttons, the fingerprint scanner for biometric verification, and the power toggle button are housed on the right side of the device. Three mics are visible on the top of the foldable smartphone, while the speaker grille, USB Type-C port, and a single mic are housed at the bottom. link: https://www.gadgets360.com/mobiles/news/samsung-z-fold-5-design-leak-concept-video-first-look-galaxy-s23-3897689

Newegg, one of the leading global online electronics retailers, reveals that the company is utilizing the po[CENSORED]r AI ChatGPT on its website to increase consumers' overall online shopping experience. ChatGPT will be used for the company's PC Builder tool, text content, customer service, creating subject email lines for consumers, and search engine optimization (SEO). Newegg's ChatGPT implementation makes PC building fun and broken at the same time ChatGPT has introduced four months ago and has been an essential topic of conversation regarding generative pre-trained transformer artificial intelligence. The program, which has grown in po[CENSORED]rity and overall intelligence in the last several months, has seen use in several situations, whether it be customer service, writing articles or reports, and even writing code for programmers. Now, Newegg feels that the company can use the powers of ChatGPT to assist consumers with choosing the right parts and information and direct customers to the information they request by using the AI source. We’re always evaluating our e-commerce technology to ensure we’re providing the best customer experience. Through testing, we’ve proven that ChatGPT has a practical use for Newegg based on the added quality and efficiency it creates. We deployed ChatGPT to improve content both on-site and off-site to help customers find what they want and elevate their experience. AI doesn’t replace employees, but it adds resources so employees are available to handle more complex projects. We’re still in the early phases of AI but the benefits for e-commerce may be substantial. Our customers are among the po[CENSORED]tion’s most knowledgeable regarding the latest technology because they assemble often complex tech products. Customers should expect Newegg to deploy the most advanced technology for their shopping experience and ChatGPT currently enables this. — Lucy Huo, Vice President of Application Development, Newegg Newegg's new integration with ChatGPT will be used in the following: PC Builder shopping tool, which helps customers select components to build a desktop PC Optimizing text content throughout the Newegg website Customer service chat Customer email subject lines Search Engine Optimization Newegg Commerce Inc. will now incorporate ChatGPT in the Newegg PC Builder shopping tool launched in June 2020. The online toolset was out to assist consumers in locating parts to build their PC system but added the functionality to show what parts were compatible with each other as well as helping with user specifications and price range. The new ChatGPT integration is in its beta stages, but the company hopes that customers can speak to the AI chatbot and receive calculated answers to help build their system. In addition, Newegg will offer specific set selections, such as intended PC use, CPU, GPU, and price range. Editor's Note: So I was messing around with the tool and noticed that once you put in a specific query for an Intel or AMD build, it won't show the other brand at all. For example, if you were to select AMD PC builds at the start and then follow up with a sentence like "Best Gaming PC", all of those builds will be AMD-only. The same is the case if you use Intel first. ChatGPT will also work to alter text throughout the website to assist consumers. At the same time, the chatbot will assist customers browsing Newegg and help discover new tech products, such as suggesting certain products based on what the consumer is searching for with more efficiency and providing better page titles, along with more suggestive descriptions and summaries. For customer service, Newegg will use ChatGPT as a medium between consumers and Newegg's human staff workers to answer known questions and only notify the human side of the business when consumers require resolutions to any arising concerns during discussion. Newegg feels that ChatGPT's benefits for customer service are that the chatbots can replicate human understanding and interactions, replicate the customer service experience, and offer informative and satisfying sessions to resolve questions and concerns. ChatGPT increased artificial intelligence can process more topics than previous AI-based chatbots of the past, helping customer service representatives focus on complicated customer issues. Integrating ChatGPT for customer email subject lines are expected to increase the open rate for the company by utilizing analytical data that would be catered more to the consumer. ChatGPT will also assist with Newegg's SEO by creating text and descriptions on the website to increase and improve the shopping experience for consumers. For off-site matters, the AI-generative chatbot will offer friendlier and more welcoming content to Bing and Google to increase traffic for Newegg's online store. link: https://wccftech.com/newegg-incorporates-chatgpt-into-its-pc-builder-online-shopping-experience-for-customer-peace-of-mind/

Counter-Strike 2 is coming Counter-Strike 2 is the latest version of Valve’s long-running multiplayer FPS and is set to release sometime between June and September. The game comes as a free upgrade to its predecessor: Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO), released in 2012. Counter-Strike’s fast-paced, objective-based gameplay makes it feel like speed-chess with guns. Despite being long in the tooth, CS:GO has a thriving community of players, and the Counter-Strike 2 update looks like it’ll be a welcome breath of fresh air for newcomers and veterans alike. With a very active tournament scene and mods galore, CS:GO has been a titan in the FPS world, and Counter-Strike 2 looks poised to continue the legacy of its predecessor. Though we don’t yet have official confirmation as to Counter-Strike 2’s launch platforms, the “Limited Test” for the series’ latest incarnation will only be taking place on PC. However, since CS:GO never made the jump to PS4 and Xbox One, let alone PS5 and Xbox Series X, meaning Counter-Strike 2 may stay to PC for the forseeable. Read on to find out more about the Limited Test, as well as the new features in Valve’s upcoming FPS. Counter-Strike 2: cut to the chase What is it? More players will be added over time, but, as of yet, there is no way to guarantee entry into the test, so you’ll just have to keep your fingers crossed in the meantime. As for platforms, it has already been confirmed that Counter-Strike 2 will be coming to PC. There has been no news yet as to console releases. However, Counter-Strike 2 is an overhauled update for CS:GO, and Valve never released the game for PS4, Xbox One, or the more recent consoles, it’s possible the shooter will remain PC-only for a while, if not permanently. Resident Evil 4 remake is pretty great and, while it didn't quite stick the landing for me(opens in new tab), the core of the game is a combat system that can only be described as exquisite. The remake somehow keeps the same fundamental elements but, through judicious addition and re-working the ganados around Leon's newfound ability to move while aiming, updates the brutality and intensity of the crowd-management while feeling like Resident Evil 4 every instant. The best sequences in this game are the massive fights against crowds of enemies. R4 remake isn't shy about showing them off either: You'll have dozens, but the very first is a total blowout designed to give players a serious workout. It comes when Leon, having ventured from the outskirts, enters the village square for the first time. You can kill one or two enemies with stealth but, as soon as they spot you, it's on, and soon enough there's a chainsaw involved. This fight is both hard as hell and glorious, with the game throwing wave after relentless wave until the player has survived long enough. Then the church bell rings, the ganados suddenly turn passive, and they all shamble off as Leon wonders WTF just happened. It turns out that in R4 remake Capcom has added an easter egg allowing players to skip this encounter. That church bell, it turns out, is visible from various vantage points in the village and, if you hit it successfully with a bullet, it will ring. So you can start the fight, run straight into the house that triggers the appearance of the chainsaw, then immediately clamber out to the roof, dink the bell, and end matters after a few seconds. This chap shows how(opens in new tab) though, as that's not embeddable, you can see the same clip in the below tweet. I mean, this is neat as hell, obviously has big implications for speedrunners, and it speaks to the attention-to-detail in this remake that the development team found it funny enough to include. I'm not going to give you any boring lectures about not skipping the fight because it's so good either, because this mob killed me like six times so [CENSORED] those guys and gals. Resident Evil 4 remake has been received largely positively and, with the Mercenaries mode on due on April 4, will probably find itself in contention on many folks' best of the year lists. I'm taking a break before starting my Professional runthrough for one very good reason. I'm going to sit back, relax, and wait for the mod that lets me play through this as Joe Biden: Though, of course, the first thing modders actually did was put Leon in a thong(opens in new tab). link:https://www.pcgamer.com/resident-evil-4-remake-has-a-funny-easter-egg-that-lets-you-skip-the-first-major-fight/

Humza Yousaf is to succeed Nicola Sturgeon as SNP leader and Scotland's first minister after a vote of party members. Mr Yousaf defeated rivals Kate Forbes and Ash Regan in a leadership contest that exposed deep divisions within the party. The 37-year-old is the first Muslim to lead a major UK party. He is set to be confirmed as the first ethnic minority leader of a devolved government on Tuesday. Mr Yousaf is currently Scotland's health secretary and was widely assumed to be Ms Sturgeon's preferred successor, although she did not explicitly back any of the candidates in the contest. The leadership election was decided by the Single Transferable Vote system, with 50,490 of the SNP's 72,169 members casting a ballot - the vast majority of them online. Live reaction as Humza Yousaf wins SNP leadership Humza Yousaf: Who is the new SNP leader? Mr Yousaf failed to win a majority in the first round of voting, but won 52.1% of the votes after second preference votes from Ms Regan, who was eliminated after finishing third, were redistributed. Ms Forbes came second with 47.9% of the votes when second preferences were included, with Mr Yousaf receiving 26,032 votes and Ms Forbes 23,890. The new SNP leader will face a vote in the Scottish Parliament - which he is certain to win - on Tuesday before becoming Scotland's sixth first minister. He had been the clear favourite with the bookmakers during the contest, although polling expert Prof Sir John Curtice said ahead of the result that Ms Forbes appeared to be more po[CENSORED]r with Scottish voters as a whole. Ms Forbes, a member of the evangelical Free Church of Scotland, had been attacked by the SNP hierarchy during the contest over her socially conservative views on issues such as gay marriage, abortion and having children outside of marriage. Speaking after being confirmed as the new leader at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh, Ms Yousaf said it would be "the greatest honour and privilege of my life" to be the next first minister. And he called on the party to unite behind him after what has often been a fractious leadership contest. He said independence would be won "on the doorsteps" and pledged to kickstart a grassroots campaign, adding: "We will be the generation to win independence for Scotland". Mr Yousaf added: "In the SNP we are a family. Over the last five weeks we may have been competitors or supporters of different candidates. "We are no longer team Humza, or team Ash, or team Kate, we are one team." Mr Yousaf also said his grandparents had arrived in Scotland from Pakistan in the 1960s barely able to speak a word of English, and would not have believed "in their wildest dreams" that their grandson would one day become first minister of Scotland. Ms Sturgeon, who was Scotland's longest-serving first minister, announced last month she was stepping down after more than eight years in the job. She said Mr Yousaf will be an "outstanding" leader as she congratulated him on his appointment, adding: "I could not be prouder to have him succeed me". It was the first time the SNP has had a leadership contest since 2004, with Ms Sturgeon being unopposed when she replaced Alex Salmond in 2014. Mr Yousaf becomes only its fifth leader since 1979, and will face the task of uniting a party that has dominated Scottish politics in recent years but which has looked deeply divided in the wake of Ms Sturgeon's resignation. Ms Sturgeon's surprise announcement that she was resigning came just three weeks after she insisted that she had "plenty in the tank" and still believed she would lead Scotland to independence. Her husband, Peter Murrell, was forced to resign midway through the campaign after it emerged the party's membership stood at 72,000 rather than the 104,000 it had consistently claimed to have. The party still faces a police probe over the use of £600,000 which was raised by activists who were told it would be ringfenced for a second independence referendum, and questions over why Mr Murrell gave a SNP a loan of more than £100,000 in June 2021. The SNP and Mr Murrell both deny they have done anything wrong, with Ms Sturgeon saying she "can't recall" when she first learned of her husband's six-figure loan link: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-65086551
