According to US media, tariffs would come into effect 'shortly'. These tariffs would be added to those already imposed by Trump worldwide on imports of steel and aluminum.
US President Donald Trump on Thursday gave his approval to impose tariffs worth 50,000 million dollars to Chinese products, a measure that threatened for months and that Beijing promised to respond, US media reported.
Trump made the decision in a meeting at the White House with his Secretary of Commerce, Wilbur Ross; his secretary of the Treasury, Steven Mnuchin; and its responsible for Foreign Trade, Robert Lighthizer.
According to the media that leaked the news citing sources aware of the decision, the White House could announce tariffs today, which would take effect "shortly".
Trump advanced in March his plans to impose tariffs for 50,000 million to China for the trade deficit of Washington with respect to Beijing, and thus initiated a period of commercial confrontation between the two largest economies in the world.
The Trump government then identified some 1,300 Chinese products that it planned to tax in a list that included state-of-the-art devices from the aerospace and robotic industries.
These tariffs would be added to those already imposed by Trump worldwide on imports of steel (25%) and aluminum (10%).
China, on the other hand, said it would respond to Washington's levies with tariffs of 25% on a total of 106 products imported from the United States, including soy, automobiles and airplanes.
