Taylor Swift's Eras Tour, a "cultural juggernaut" remarkable for both its scale and intimacy, comes to an end this week. Along the way, it has become the most extraordinary live event of our time – and for many, it's meant even more. This weekend, after 20 months, 149 shows, a blockbuster concert film and millions of friendship bracelet swaps, Taylor Swift's Eras Tour finally comes to an end in Vancouver, Canada. Less a live show than a cultural juggernaut steamrolling into 53 cities across five continents, the Eras Tour has dominated headlines, boosted national economies (and craft sales), caused mini-earthquakes and broken countless records – including becoming the highest-grossing tour of all time (experts believe it will top $2bn (£1.6bn) – and that doesn't include merchandise). Since she kicked off the live shows in March 2023, Swift has released three albums (re-recordings of Speak Now and 1989, and The Tortured Poets Department), snagged her fourth album of the year Grammy – the first artist to do so – and embarked on a high-profile relationship with NFL star Travis Kelce (who made a cameo on the Eras Tour). She has called the end of the tour "the closing of the most extraordinary chapter of my life so far". I think her fans are going to church, or the closest they can get to church – Simon Critchley The sheer scale and cultural dominance of the Eras Tour, from the record attendances to the 3.5-hour setlist, is undeniable. In the almost two years it's been going, it has become its own news cycle – even if you didn't attend, you've probably seen the videos of Prince William or Tom Cruise dancing at the show, or heard about world leaders begging Swift to give their country an economy-boosting visit. We live in an era of blockbuster live shows, but there's never been anything quite as colossal as this. It's hard to see how anyone, including Swift herself, will top it anytime soon. And yet, if Swift's shows were remarkable for their size, they were also striking for their against-the-odds sense of intimacy. Attending the Eras Tour felt less like bowing down to a global megastar, and more like a mass, sequinned meet-up. Earlier this year Variety magazine dubbed her "the world's greatest community organiser". https://www.bbc.com/culture/article/20241205-how-taylor-swifts-eras-tour-took-over-the-world

The Giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) is a bear species endemic to China. The name "giant panda" is sometimes used to distinguish it from the Red panda, a neighboring musteloid. The Giant panda has often served as China's national symbol, appeared on Chinese Gold Panda coins since 1982, and as one of the five Fuwa mascots of the 2008 Summer Olympics. The Giant panda is a bear of medium to large size with a large head, small eyes, long muzzle, large nose, and short tail. It has large jaws with strong muscles, and together with its flat molars, it is able to crush bamboo leaves and stems. Its thick fur is creamy-white with big black patches on its shoulders, ears, and nose, with distinctive black patches around its eyes. An extension of its wrist bone, which serves as a thumb, enables them to grip bamboo stems. https://animalia.bio/giant-panda

[Sport] Why Amorim must unlock Zirkzee's unique talent
X A V I posted a topic in Sport / Biographies
Thirteen games in and most fans and a few pundits had already decided that Joshua Zirkzee, named in the Serie A Team of the Year for his beguiling performances in Italy last season, was a poor investment by the Red Devils. Bologna football club reside in Italy's food capital. Few cities in the world could delight the appetite quite like Bologna and while the football has often been hopeful at best, Thiago Motta and his group of chaos-inflicting footballers began to attract as much passion as the famous tagliatelle with ragu last season. Zirkzee was worth the ticket price alone as many happily pointed out to the reporters arriving in droves to enjoy the spectacle. Complex, incredibly intelligent and a throwback to the kind of football that once showcased players' unique talents as opposed to a team's tactical philosophy, Zirkzee entertained. He was the amalgamation of all the players who inspired him and a product of Cruyff Courts, the enclosed football pitches that augment skill on the ball. Did he score endlessly? Nope. Was he essential to Bologna and the football viewing experience? Absolutely. The third goal for Manchester United against Everton captured a glimpse of what Zirkzee does so well. A second to survey the pitch, a moment of perfect technique to deliver to Amad. The only thing Zirkzee loves more than runners alongside him is the freedom to drop deep, create and deliver. But that was a glimpse and only a glimpse. How pleasing for Zirkzee fans to watch a United coach finally exploit the player's tactical intelligence and movement in space by allowing him the freedom to roam, to create, to unleash. How thoughtful to surround him with runners who can showcase what his intelligence can produce rather than asking him to simply stay in the box and score. When Corriere della Sera asked the player in February what he needed to improve, he replied: "I have to remember that I am the only striker in the team and to stay more inside the area." He tries to remember and he can obviously manage it but that's not where his talent lies. Italian media analysed and scrutinised the player's heat map after a match between Bologna and Roma. Zirkzee was omnipresent, moving vertically and horizontally, coming to the rescue of his team-mates to create an outlet for the pass, dragging defenders away to clear space for the incursions of midfielders and Riccardo Calafiori and even coming back to aid the defence. Zirkzee is not a striker, he was the heart of the operation. Every move flowed through him at Bologna because, as he says: "I have a certain ability, [Motta] gave me the confidence to exalt it." One of his most perfect games was against Inter in the Coppa Italia last season. Surrounded by seven players in the centre of the pitch as he accelerated forward, flanked by two runners, he threaded the perfect pass for Dan Ndoye to score. Inter were knocked out of the cup. Go back and watch his first assist of the game - a flying backheel kick with the outside of his boot from the byline for Sam Beukema to score. Nothing he does is ordinary. Should the defender wish to press him, this will delight the Dutchman further. He loves nothing more than to lure his opponents close to him, the more the better, before he unleashes his technique. Even defenders capable of pivoting are caught flat-footed in the presence of Zirkzee. He is the master of escapology and to him football is art, it's a source of enjoyment, of fun. It's all about the game of one-upping the guy ahead of you and unless Zirkzee can tap into that energy, be allowed to express his talent, he may disappoint. It's almost like he manages the impossible with ease - and the easy with great difficulty. When playing for Bayern Munich, he notoriously missed a tap-in against Ajax in a pre-season friendly that led to an insufferable amount of criticism and abuse from fans. Social media was too much to bear and the forward proceeded to delete all his Instagram posts and even changed his profile picture to a black screen. Then boss Julian Nagelsmann wasn't impressed: "He wanted to finish this one casually. I hope that he has a different sense of seriousness in competitive matches." That's the problem with Zirkzee - his attitude has seemingly always been questioned. "Talent alone is not enough, it is important that he works on himself," said former Bayern manager Hansi Flick. "Then he can play Bundesliga. It's about mentality and attitude and the absolute will to show what you want." Does Zirkzee want it at all costs? At Anderlecht, a viral clip of then coach Vincent Kompany berating his players made the rounds earlier this summer. "And second thing, Zirk, this is the last time I talk about your attitude. You come off, I don't need a ******* smile but I need an attitude that's perfect. You were not good, just like all the other ones. I could have taken anyone off without anyone complaining." In teams where effort and intense determination are prized beyond insatiable skill then perhaps Zirkzee may not win hearts until people see a moment of magic and begin to question what football should be about. Kompany actually proved to be an important coach for Zirkzee - he scored many goals in Belgium, paving the way for his move to Bologna. Having a coach who believed in him and helped nurture him was pivotal for a player who always wants to learn but is temperamental by nature. With Motta at Bologna, especially in his second season when Marko Arnautovic had left and Zirkzee was loaded with more responsibility, the Dutchman thrived. Bologna had players that understood how to exploit the space Zirkzee created for them, allowing for Calafiori's excellent drives forward and Lewis Ferguson's many goals. When Zirkzee understands the skill of the players around him, he learns how to manoeuvre to create the conditions for them to express their best. "I try to move knowing the characteristics of my team-mates. With some I come to meet and receive the ball, with others I pretend to attack the depth, then I try to receive the ball on my feet," explained Zirkzee to DAZN in March. "I don't consider myself a selfish striker but I think it's something I'll have to work on in the future. People are right, I don't score enough. When I don't score I get angry with myself. Believe me." It doesn't help that Zirkzee's physical stature suggests he ought to be a different type of striker. One look at his physique and we imagine him to bully opponents, use his weight, win the aerial duels and fight. Instead, he is defined by his technique, ambidextrous as a child, he always wants the ball on the ground, more interested in delivering the game-splitting pass than scoring the goal. That's not to suggest he isn't a clinical finisher - two predatory goals against Salernitana last season showed he's not all beauty and magic, there's efficiency too. But that hunger for goal perhaps isn't a feeling that resides deep within. The more he feels involved, the better he plays and Ruben Amorim has seemingly started to understand how the player can be utilised. Be patient with him, it's not every day a player can comfortably contort his body like Zlatan Ibrahimovic or evokes Ronaldinho on pitch. "Seeing him day to day, he reminds me of the Ronaldinho I played with at Barcelona," Motta said. "But I cannot compare him to anyone. He is Joshua, he is special, he enjoys his football and above all works very hard in training." https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/cm2vz1222nmo -
The regular British army could be wiped out in as little as six months if forced to fight a war on the scale of the Ukraine conflict, a defence minister has warned. Alistair Carns said a rate of casualties similar to that prompted by Russia's invasion of Ukraine would lead to the army being "expended" within six to 12 months. He said it illustrated the importance of having reserves in order to be able to fight in a "war of scale". Official figures show the army had 109,245 personnel on 1 October, including 25,814 volunteer reservists. Carns, a former Royal Marines colonel who is also a reservist, said Russia was suffering losses of around 1,500 soldiers, killed or wounded, a day. "In a war of scale - not a limited intervention, but one similar to Ukraine - our army for example on the current casualty rates would be expended, as part of a broader multinational coalition, in six months to a year," he added. In a speech on reserves at the Royal United Services Institute defence think tank in London, Carns, the minister for veterans and people, said: "That doesn't mean to say we need a bigger army, but it does mean we must be able to generate depth and mass rapidly in the event of a crisis. "The reserves are critical, absolutely central, to that process. "Without them we cannot generate mass, we cannot meet the plethora of defence tasks and challenges that we require, and we cannot seamlessly integrate the very best experts into the heart of our armed forces.” 'Third nuclear age' Speaking separately at the same think tank, the head of the armed forces said it was important to note there was only a "remote" chance that Russia would launch a "significant direct attack or invasion" on the UK, or other Nato member. Admiral Sir Tony Radakin added that Russia "knows the response would be overwhelming, whether conventional or nuclear". But he added that it showed the need for nuclear deterrence to be "kept strong and strengthened," warning that the world was entering a "third nuclear age" following the Cold War and subsequent period of disarmament. This new age would be defined by the "almost total absence of the security architectures that went before," and more countries having nuclear weapons. He added that China's increasing nuclear weapons stockpile meant the United States could face a "two-peer challenge" from Beijing and Moscow, with both countries possessing significant arsenals. Army reservists serve in their spare time, getting paid to train outside their main jobs. Carns said the reality of wars such as the one being fought in Ukraine was that they were "attritional in nature". He also said the UK needed to "catch up with Nato allies" by placing a greater emphasis on its reserves. A Ministry of Defence spokesperson said the UK's armed forces were "amongst the best in the world and offer a 24/7 defence of the UK, operating alongside our allies and partners to prepare for any event". “The Strategic Defence Review will look at the threats we face and the capabilities we need so that our Armed Forces are better ready to fight, more integrated and more innovative," they added. “Our Reserves are an essential and extremely valued element of the Armed Forces and the contributions they make to our resilience and our ability to call on additional personnel when required are vital.” Earlier, the prime minister's official spokesman said the Budget had "invested billions of pounds into defence". 'Time to act' Last month, Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff Lieutenant General Sir Rob Magowan told MPs on the Defence Select Committee: “If the British Army was asked to fight tonight, it would fight tonight. “I don’t think anybody in this room should be under any illusion that if the Russians invaded eastern Europe tonight, then we would meet them in that fight.” Earlier on Wednesday, Foreign Secretary David Lammy urged Nato's European members to step up their defence spending ahead of Donald Trump's return to the White House. The US president-elect has accused European countries of relying on American taxpayers for their security. At a meeting of Nato's foreign ministers in Brussels, Lammy said "the time to act is now" - although the UK government has yet to set out its own plans for increasing its spending on defence to 2.5% of national output. He highlighted Russia's invasion of Ukraine and its involvement in conflicts around the world, including the Middle East. "In the United Kingdom, we are at 2.3%, heading to 2.5% as soon as we can get there, and we urge all allies across the Nato family to get serious about defence spending. "All of our po[CENSORED]tions require us to understand the tremendous security challenges that we are facing at this time," he added. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c3rqlelypgxo

Apple launched iPad Pro with a new M4 chip and slimmer bezels in May this year. The Cupertino-based tech giant is believed to update the iPad Pro next year with a new generation chip. Most recently, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that the iPad Pro powered by an unannounced M5 chip will become available to customers in the fall of 2025. Apple has historically updated its iPad Pro line about every 18 months. The last generation iPad Pro (2022) models with the Apple M2 processor were launched in October 2022. iPad Pro With M5 Chip Launch In a Medium post, Ming-Chi Kuo shared his expectations about the launch of the M5-powered iPad Pro. He states that mass production of the iPad Pro with M5 will begin in the second half of 2025. "The iPad Pro equipped with the M5 processor is expected to enter mass production in 2H25. The company's business momentum in 2H25 is anticipated to benefit significantly from Apple's new product launches" he wrote. This suggests that the M5 iPad Pro will go on sale in the fall of next year or about 18 months after the release of the M4 model. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman had made similar claims in October. He said that the M5-powered iPad Pro won't be launched until late 2025 or the first half of 2026. Apple currently follows a 1.5-year gap between iPad Pro launches and Kuo's revelation suggests that this will continue. The iPad Pro was last updated in May of this year with an M4 chip, slimmer bezels, up to 2TB of storage, and iPadOS 17 operating system. It came with a starting price tag of Rs. 99,900 for the base model with an 11-inch screen and Wi-Fi connectivity, while the 13-inch model was priced at Rs. 1,29,900 for the Wi-Fi variant. iPad Pro features an Ultra Retina XDR display and supports Apple Pencil Pro and redesigned Magic Keyboard. It features a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle TrueDepth camera on the front and a 12-megapixel rear camera well as a LiDAR scanner. https://www.gadgets360.com/tablets/news/ipad-pro-m5-mass-production-2025-second-half-ming-chi-kuo-medium-7179273#pfrom=topstory

Within the world of the recently released sci-fi MMO/Survival game Once Human, there are a fair few little creatures you can capture and use both in your home base and during combat. These are called Deviants, and they are spread throughout the world, collectable through various methods that range from grinding dungeon drops to farming and harvesting wheat, and many others in between. Today, we're going to help you find Once Human's best Deviants. Electric Eel During my time in Once Human, the single most useful Deviant I have found is the Electric Eel. At face value, he might not seem that great, as his ability is inherently tied to your base building. All the eel does is provide more electricity to your generators, regardless of whether they’re solar panels or electrical generators. This ability seems pretty basic at first, but as you progress, you’ll find you’ll need a large supply of expensive electrical facilities to keep up with the power demand requested by your crafting machines. This Deviant helps you avoid those expensive crafting recipes and get a large buff to your electricity pool without much work. All you have to do to catch this one is fish at any water source until you get him. He’s not too rare of a drop, so it shouldn’t take much grinding. Digby Boy The Digby Boy is objectively the best Deviant in Once Human, and luckily for us, extremely easy to find. This cube-shaped fella will passively grind ores and rocks for you while you’re away from the base and can gather up to around 300 of three different ores from your base’s region. If you gather three or four and plop them in your base, you’ll essentially have an endless supply of all the ore you need without having to farm for it yourself. https://www.pocketgamer.com/once-human/deviant-guide/
