  1. Mega-wide, super-wide, super-ultrawide. The 32:9 aspect 49-inch monitor is possibly the most uniquely shaped video display there is. The advent of LCD technology made it possible to create a panel in literally any size or shape, and with a variety of curve radii, manufacturers have sought to broaden the array of choices. Though the ultrawide screen had an auspicious beginning, answering a question no one asked, there is no doubt today that curved monitors in the 21:9 and 32:9 aspect ratios make for some of the best gaming monitors. The 49-inch genre is especially interesting because it literally combines the resolution and attributes of two 27-inch 1440p monitors into a single screen. If you’ve been running a multi-screen setup and wish to rid yourself of the black line between displays, the Viotek SUW49DA ($980 as of writing) might just be the solution for you with its 5120x1440 resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate. We’ve looked at a couple of these mega-wide monitors in the past. About two years ago, we shared our Samsung CHG90 review and found that although it delivered excellent HDR and solid gaming performance, its 1080-pixel height made for a slightly soft image. Earlier this year, we shared our AOC AG493UCX review. That’s a 5120 x 1440 panel with much better picture quality. The Viotek SUW49DA shares that same attribute, along with a 120 Hz refresh rate and AMD FreeSync. We also got G-Sync to run on it even though it’s not Nvidia-certified (see our How to Run G-Sync on a FreeSync Monitor article). The panel uses VA technology for a nice boost in contrast and is rated at a fairly bright claimed 400 nits. Extended color is a feature as well, with a claimed 90% coverage of the DCI- P3 gamut. You also get HDR10 support, though we noted that HDR doesn’t work with Adaptive-Sync. The curve radius is 1800R, which is the same bend you’ll see from any 32:9 49-inch monitor. It provides a unique perspective to any kind of first-person game. You’ll be able to see a vast environment in your favorite shooter, and flight simulators play on another level. When sitting 2 or 3 feet away, you are completely enveloped in screen. Workday tasks also take on a new look, which Viotek has capitalized on. The SUW49DA can display up to four sources at once and has two each of DisplayPort and HDMI to help make that happen. There is a lot to see here so without further delay, let’s crack open the 4-foot wide carton. Assembly and Accessories for Viotek SUW49DA You’ll want to clear a large space to unpack the SUW49DA. The panel and upright are already assembled, so just grab the included Phillips-head screwdriver to bolt on the slim metal base. It looks tiny, but is more than capable of stabilizing this huge display. At only a tad shy of 4 feet across, you’ll need a wide desk to accommodate this beast. Hookup is aided by the inclusion of two DisplayPort cables. The power supply is internal, so the monitor comes with an IEC cord. Once finished, you can tidy the connections with a snap-on input panel cover. Photos cannot really convey the scale of a 49-inch 32:9 monitor. The SUW49DA is LARGE. But we quickly got used to turning our heads to see everything. The curve seems extreme at first, but it is an ideal radius for the screen’s size and shape. The bezel is narrow and flush mounted. At the bottom is a wider strip with the Viotek logo at center. Beneath this bulge are five buttons with their labels facing down, where they can’t be seen. But this ergonomic faux pas will be quickly forgotten when you discover the remote control. It’s very intuitive and we used it exclusively to navigate the SUW49DA’s on-screen menus. From the top, you can clearly see the curve. Also of note is the iridescent red trim. It looks almost like anodized chrome but is actually shiny plastic. Viotek uses it at the top of the upright and in a thin ring near the base. The stand offers 15 degrees of swivel to either side and -5/15 degrees of tilt. The movements are firm, but there’s a little wobble, which is expected given the size of this panel. If you want an alternative mounting solution, there’s a 75mm VESA lug pattern in the back. The input panel includes the latest versions of DisplayPort (1.4) and HDMI (2.0). You get two of each input. Both types work with FreeSync at 120 Hz, while unofficial G-Sync operates only over DisplayPort. HDR also works through all inputs, but it can’t be used in conjunction with Adaptive-Sync. There are built-in speakers that provide decent sound on the politer side. Or you can plug headphones into the 3.5mm audio port. A single USB 2.0 port supports firmware updates and service but will not operate peripherals. OSD Features on Viotek SUW49DA The SUW49DA’s on-screen display (OSD) is identical to the one found in all the Viotek monitors we’ve reviewed. It’s logically laid out, if a bit industrial, in style. You can navigate it with the panel-mounted buttons, but the remote is far better for this task. You can change sources in the OSD, but it’s quicker to just press the Source button on the remote. Brightness/Contrast does exactly what it says and also includes a black level slider to help with shadow detail and DCR, a dynamic contrast option. DCR works by varying the backlight so it won’t clip detail, but we could see it in operation because it lagged a bit behind changes in picture level. Quick dark to bright transitions produced a slow flickering effect that was distracting. In Color Setting, you’ll find all the necessary calibration controls. There are five gamma presets, six picture modes and two color-temp options, plus a user mode with RGB sliders. You can also vary color saturation and hue to taste. We were able to adjust our SUW49DA sample to a good standard of accuracy (see our recommended calibration settings below).
  2. Hackers were able to compromise the official campaign website of incumbent US President Donald Trump, which was briefly defaced this week with materials relating to a cryptocurrency scam. The attackers, whose identity and affiliation remains unclear, posted a message to donaldjtrump.com that suggested the group had access to “internal and secret conversations” between Trump and his associates. The hackers also accused the Trump government of criminal acts, cooperation with foreign actors mani[CENSORED]ting the upcoming presidential election and even an involvement in the “origin of the coronavirus”. Here's our list of the best identity theft protection out there We've built a list of the best antivirus services on the market Check out our list of the best malware removal software around Addresses for two cryptocurrency wallets were also posted to the website, one under the subheading “Yes, share the data” and the other under “No, do not share this data”. The two wallets, according to the hackers, would act as a polling mechanism; whichever contained the most cryptocurrency after the (unspecified) deadline would dictate the group’s next actions. Trump website hacked Although it is not yet clear precisely how the hackers gained access to the website, cybersecurity experts have suggested an administrator may have been deceived into giving up their credentials via a phishing attack, or that the website was somehow routed through the attacker’s own server. Once the incident came to light, the materials remained live on the website for under 30 minutes and a spokesperson for the Trump campaign has since confirmed it is “working with law enforcement authorities to investigate the source of the attack”. “There was no exposure to sensitive data because none is actually stored on the site. The website has been restored,” he added. The upcoming US election has provided fertile ground for cybercriminals, with some looking to capitalize on the event for monetary gain and others hoping to advance their own political agenda. The attack on Trump’s campaign website comes less than a week after a database containing detailed information relating to almost all US voters was listed for sale on various underground marketplaces. The sellers claimed the database consisted of 186 million records and contained highly personal information. including names, addresses, age, gender, contact details and even political affiliation. American intelligence also recently accused Iran of involvement in an email campaign targeting Democrat voters in the swing state of Florida, designed to provoke a change of allegiance. Iran, predictably, denied the allegations. “Unlike the US, Iran does not interfere in other country’s elections,” said Alireza Miryousefi, a spokesperson for the Iranian Mission to the UN.

  5. Everybody knows sleeping is crucial for the overall health of a person. If you eat well and exercise often, but do not clock in adequate hours of sleep every night, you do a great disservice to your body and mind. While people who find it difficult to fall asleep at night, do a great many things to aid their sleep, white noise and white noise machines have become quite po[CENSORED]r in the recent past. Simply put, a white noise machine generates a background noise which is known to soothe a person and help them sleep better and faster. The noise can be anything of your choice, the humming of the ceiling fan, sounds of rain and wind, thunder sounds, hair blower machines, etc. As such, many people are known to download such apps which generate these kind of ‘relaxing’ sounds that they come to associate with sleep. And while they are hugely po[CENSORED]r, their efficacy has been recently questioned. According to a report published in The Guardian, Mathias Basner, a professor of psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia, and colleagues systematically reviewed and identified 38 studies that researched noise as a sleep aid. And even though there was some evidence that continuous noise reduced the amount of time it took for people to fall asleep, the quality was extremely poor, with at least one study suggesting the noise may lead to more disrupted sleep, which could be counter-productive. “If these apps or devices could only do good things, I wouldn’t really care. But because there may be negative consequences, I would just be careful. I wouldn’t broadly recommend them, because there is no evidence that they are actually working,” Basner, whose research has been published in the Sleep Medicine Reviews journal, was quoted as saying. He was also apprehensive about the potential ill-effects of “not allowing the auditory system to switch off overnight”. “Whenever we’re exposed to sounds and noise, the inner ear is translating that into nerve signals that are then interpreted by the brain. It is an active process, which generates metabolites, some of which have been shown to be harmful to the inner ear. You probably want to have a period where the auditory system can wind down, regenerate and prepare for the next wake period,” he explained. The Guardian report further mentioned that Colin Espie, a professor of sleep medicine at the University of Oxford agreed and said: “The main concern to overcome in poor sleep is the busy or racing mind. People can’t switch off mentally. White noise is just like any other monotonous stimulation, which has been tried many times in many ways over decades, and the evidence is poor.”
  6. What is it? This is the Polestar 2 without the optional Performance Pack fitted to every example of this slick and very quick electric notchback that we've tried until now. Let’s go straight in and first talk about what you don’t get, should you forgo the package. (If you’re unfamiliar with the Polestar 2 in general, you can catch up by reading our experiences driving a prototype in Sweden, our first taste of the car on British roads or a head-to-head with its closest rival, the Tesla Model 3.) Most noticeably, you don’t get the supercar-spec 20in forged wheels with gold valve caps, the gold Brembo brake calipers or the sizable drilled discs they grip. And no doubt, without these, you also lose an appreciable portion of the 2's concepty visual clout. Neither do you get the high-gloss black roof panel, nor the gold seatbelts, although interestingly the lovely panoramic roof is standard. This is just as well, because I suspect the cabin would feel a little too cosy without the skylight, as Polestar surely knows. Most of all, by choosing not to have the Performance Pack, you go without the vaunted Öhlins dual-flow valve dampers, which are manually adjustable and paired with stiffer anti-roll bars and unique spring rates. Öhlins, if you don't already know, is the Swedish brand whose expensive kit is frequently found on racing cars and supercars such as the Lamborghini Aventador, although it has also recently announced remote-reservoir dampers for intrepid Suzuki Jimny owners. In short, the Performance Pack dampers are anything but ordinary. As for what you gain for resisting all that bling, there's a slight increase in ground clearance and therefore ride height, because the standard passive suspension uses longer springs than the Performance Pack suspension. You also get the standard 19in wheels, which aren’t so attractive but do wear tyres that are more generous of sidewall, which ought to improve the finer elements of the ride quality. Last but not least, you’ll save yourself £5000. What's it like? Not only will you save yourself £5000 but also you won’t actually sacrifice any of the 2's really good bits. The turn of pace, the interior ambience, the driving range; the general sense of wellbeing. Both variants get the same 78kWh battery and 292 miles of WLTP range and the same Valeo-Siemens electric motors – one for each axle, making more than 400bhp in total. Drivability is equally good. It’s all very easygoing, although push through initially quite hesitant throttle response and the 2 is uncomfortably quick. Floor it and this car would initially out-drag a BMW M4 or Porsche 911 Turbo S. Despite the lesser braking package, the non-Performance car is also similarly soft in terms of pedal feel and requires an assertive jab for the pads to really start biting. In the days of massively over-assisted brake pedals, this is actually quite nice, but it does take some getting used to. As for interior, gold seatbelts notwithstanding, the two cars are entirely the same and, depending on your trim choices, there really are some lovely finishes available. The wood in this example imparts an especially warm atmosphere. Now, the differences. You could argue that losing the lightweight 20in wheels and firmer Öhlins suspension drains away some steering feel, but there’s so little true feel either way that this is barely worth mentioning. The steering is accurate and sensibly geared, and that's it. The big change is found in the character of the ride. It probably isn’t too simplistic to say that, for 90% of most people's day-to-day driving activities, the standard 2 is going to be the better option. The Performance Pack dampers can deliver moments of magic, especially at speed, when they can cradle all 2048kg of the car's immense bulk so deftly that you would swear it were at least 300kg lighter. Yet even before you consider the range-sapping implications of putting your foot down, this simply isn’t that kind of car. It’s not something that begs to be hustled, and the Öhlins dampers only really begin to deliver their unique brand of supreme cushioning and control once you really get going. Otherwise, there’s simply not enough load going through the hardware. Should I buy one? Yes – if you like Polestar’s style and have the money to spend, although you might also consider the Tesla Model 3, which benefits from the Supercharger network. However, think very carefully about going for the Performance Pack. I know: you need the pack to get those magnificent wheels, but if you’re doing plenty of mainly sedate miles, you will probably thank yourself for passing up the Öhlins dampers. They’re very good, but they knock the dynamic package slightly out of balance and, in all honesty, you’re unlikely ever to move them out of the softest setting. The 2 may have the spec-sheet numbers, but it's no sports car. So, the real question is: just how badly so you want those forged wheels and gold calipers?
  7. Four countries opened diplomatic representations in Western Sahara over the past week. The UAE announced today its decision to open a consulate general in Laayoune, southern Morocco. The Gulf country made the announcement during a phone call between King Mohammed VI and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. A statement from the royal cabinet said the call was part of the permanent cooperation and regular consultations between the two countries. During the call, King Mohammed VI expressed satisfaction with the decision. The Moroccan monarch described the announcement as historic, reflecting the UAE’s support for Morocco’s territorial integrity. The announcement comes a few days after the UAE expressed support for Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara during the fourth committee of the UN General Assembly. The UAE’s consulate general will add to growing pro-Moroccan momentum in Western Sahara. This week alone, four countries opened diplomatic representations in Morocco’s southern provinces. Equatorial Guinea, Guinea Bissau, and Burkina Faso opened embassies in Dakhla on October 23. Today, Eswatini and Zambia opened consulates in Laayoune. The opening of UAE’s diplomatic representation will be the ninth of its kind. The UAE’s decision also comes at an important time. The UN Security Council will meet to vote on a new resolution to extend the mandate of the peacekeeping operation in Western Sahara, MINURSO. Several other African countries also opened diplomatic representations in Morocco’s Dakhla. Morocco’s foreign affairs minister Nasser Bourita said today that the openings are due to King Mohammed VI’s “wise” African policy. “Moroccan diplomacy is reaping the fruits of its African policy,” Bourita said. Evolving Morocco-UAE ties This decision signals a decisive thaw in relations between Morocco and the UAE. Ties between the two countries were strained over the past three years because of their dissenting views over the Gulf crisis. Relations between Rabat and Abu Dhabi started souring in the wake of the UAE and Saudi Arabia’s decision to cut their economic and diplomatic ties with Qatar. Bahrain and Egypt also joined the Saudi-Emirati alliance against Qatar. Rabat, which has long enjoyed proverbial and solid ties with its Gulf allies, especially with Saudi Arabia and the UAE, decided to take a neutral stance and offered its good offices to end the rift between the Gulf Cooperation Council members. Morocco’s decision did not sit well with Saudi Arabia and the UAE, who perhaps were expecting Morocco to join them in their boycott of Qatar. Saudi Arabia and UAE’s displeasure with Morocco was on display when Saudi Arabia and the UAE voted in June 2018 for the US-Canada bid to host the 2026 World Cup, to Morocco’s detriment. In addition, a number of Saudi and Emirati outlets started publishing reports and documentaries with rhetoric that deviated from the two countries’ principled position of support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over Western Sahara. Rumors about a deterioration of Rabat-Abu Dhabi ties took on another dimension when the Emirati ambassador left Morocco in April 2019 pursuant to a “sovereign” Emirati request. The ambassador’s post in Rabat remained vacant until this summer when the UAE appointed Al Asri Saeed Ahmed Al Dhaheri as new ambassador to Morocco. Observers regarded the appointment as a sign of Abu Dhabi’s will to mend ties with Morocco. Ambassador Ahmed Al Dhaheri had served as UAE’s ambassador to Morocco between 2011-2016, a period during which Rabat-Abu Dhabi ties reached new highs. Throughout this period of uncertainty, Morocco kept its composure and abstained from taking any miscalculated step that could further deepen any misunderstanding between the two countries. While ties between Rabat and Abu Dhabi suffered over the past three years, the UAE’s official position over Western Sahara remained unchanged. The Emirates continued to express support for Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces during each meeting of the different bodies of the United Nations, especially at the UN Special Political and Decolonization Committee, known as the Fourth Committee.

  9. AMD's earnings today kicked off with big news – the company agreed to purchase Xilinx for a whopping $35 billion in an all-stock transaction. Still, that big news shouldn't overshadow the company's stellar performance during its third quarter as the company posted record revenue. While Intel struggles with an unexpected shift to lower-end products for its desktop PC chip sales, punishing its bottom line and margins, AMD continues to chew away market share and notched record client processor revenue and unit shipments. That certainly throws Intel's relatively poor quarter in desktop processor sales into stark relief. AMD's client CPU average selling prices (ASPs) continue to climb, and the company posted record quarterly client processor revenue, signalling that Intel's sudden and unexpected shift to selling more low-end chips comes at the expense of AMD's high-performance Ryzen models snapping up more of Intel's potential sales. AMD is also on the cusp of launching its Ryzen 5000 processors next month, which the company says bring an amazing 19% improvement in IPC and take the lead in gaming performance, so we should see that trend accelerate in the near future. Intel's response will come in the form of Rocket Lake, but we won't see those chips until the latter portion of Q1 2021, meaning AMD should own the holiday season for client processor sales. AMD is firing on nearly all cylinders, with revenue skyrocketing to $2.8 billion, an increase of 56% year-over-year (YoY), and 45% quarter-over-quarter (QoQ). The stellar results stem from strong Ryzen and EPYC processor sales. AMD is also doing well at maintaining (and even slightly improving) its profitability: The company reported a gross margin of 44%, a 1% YoY increase. That yielded a gross profit of $1.23 billion during the quarter. In the client computing and graphics segment, AMD raked in $1.67 billion, a 31% YoY and 22% QoQ increase. Strong Ryzen sales drove those gains, but slow graphics sales dragged on revenue. That isn't surprising in the wake of Nvidia's Ampere launch, though AMD expects that to change with the release of its RDNA2 Big Navi graphics cards that it will announce later this week. Meanwhile, AMD has pulled the covers off its Zen 3-based Ryzen 5000 processors, and sales begin November 5, so its already-stellar desktop PC sales should accelerate further. On that note, AMD reported that both it's desktop PC and notebook processor ASPs increased, OEM sell-through doubled in notebooks YoY, and the number of notebooks designs doubled YoY. AMD CEO Lisa Su said the company believes it gained more share in the client segment for the 12th straight quarter. Operating income of $384 for the client segment was up $205 million YoY and $184 million QoQ, indicating AMD is doing brisk business on the client side of the house. Moving on to the enterprise, embedded, and semi-custom segment, which produces server CPUs and chips for game consoles, AMD posted revenue of $1.13 billion, which is up 116% YoY and 101% QoQ. That comes on the back of increased EPYC server processor sales, with revenue more than doubling YoY driven by cloud and enterprise adoption. That growth comes before AMD's next-gen EPYC Milan chips, which come with the powerful Zen 3 architecture, begin shipping en masse to OEMs in Q1 2021. In the interim, AMD plans to begin shipping Milan chips to cloud and select HPC customers in 4Q 2020. AMD also has chips for the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X in production, and sales ramps of those consoles over the holidays should further lift this segment through the tail end of the year. AMD has suffered sporadic shortages of some of its client chips this year, which is largely thought to be a byproduct of limited production capacity at TSMC. Su said that supply has improved, helping the company bolster sales in the quarter, and the company doesn't see any significant supply shortages in the near future. Things look good for the remainder of the year, too. AMD guides for $3 billion in revenue for the fourth quarter, a 41% YoY increase. As one would expect, AMD says those gains will come at the hands of increased Ryzen 5000 and EPYC Milan server CPU sales. AMD expects revenue to increase by 41% YoY and gross margins to weigh in at 45% for the full year, setting the stage for yet more growth in 2021.
  10. Barely six weeks old, the new Microsoft Surface Duo is now the prime candidate in Microsofts own 'Seasonal sale,' being offered up with a flat $200 discount, plus trade-in options for potential savings of up to $700. It goes without saying, this is the cheapest price on the Microsoft Surface Duo so far, and one that's left early adopters more than a little bit upset - more on that later. So, is the new Microsoft Surface Duo a tablet, laptop, phablet, or phone? The answer is yes to all the above. In all seriousness, even Microsoft itself has been reluctant to place this brand new device in any of the previously mentioned categories, which is a very hip move if we do say so. Instead, what you're getting is a slick, versatile little device that's squarely aimed at those who value mobile productivity. Its dual screens allow it to function in a variety of modes that resemble a laptop, tablet, or phone, respectively, but it's also got a fair amount of power under that hood, which means you won't be tearing your hair out while using those Microsoft 365 apps. Importantly, it runs on Android, not on Windows like the other Surface devices, so you'll also have all those key mobile functions, plus the ability to pair it with one of the best cell phone plans. So, is this latest early Black Friday deal on the Surface Duo a bit of a slap in the face for early adopters? Unfortunately, Microsoft itself has stated that it will not be refunding the difference for those who bought it on release, instead stating customers need to return their original device and then pick-up another. In our eyes, that's definitely not an amazing consumer-focused response, given the extra hassle it puts customers through. However, people should always be aware that this time of the year is on the cusp of the Black Friday deals period - one where new releases often get flash discounts.
  11. I had high hopes for Mercedes’ voice recognition. But it’s proving a bit hit and miss so far; sometimes it picks up my commands – even complex postcodes – but at other times it gets confused. It’s early days, and I’m finding a more relaxed chatting voice is more effective than a carefully enunciated one. Let’s hope we learn to get along better in time.Sometimes it takes a little jeopardy to push boundaries. Just the night before, I’d done a radio phone-in about electric cars, suggesting that they’re generally hugely capable and that for many more people than are buying them, they could be the perfect means of transport. And then I went to bed without checking my schedule for the next day. So it was with no little amount of horror that I then awoke to discover that – after six months of commuting 12 paces from my bed to my chair – I was due in Northampton, 89 miles away, and that I hadn’t charged the rather lovely Mercedes-Benz EQC overnight. Did I grab the keys to my wife’s trusty 10-year-old Honda Civic, or did I live the change I wanted to see? Back to top I’ll admit that my hand flicked from one set of keys to the other more than once but, after a calming few minutes online researching charger locations, I knew I had to live by my own words. My almost-calamitous organisation meant I had to leave 30 minutes earlier than otherwise but, if all went well, I’d be on time and have enough electrons whizzing around beneath my feet to get home again. And – surprise, surprise – I drove, I stopped and a 35-minute stop at an Ionity/Polar charging station just off the M1 delivered around 70 miles of charge. Naysayers take note: there were 11 fairly-high-speed chargers at this well-known location, and I was the only one using them; come a short distance off the motorway these days and it feels like you’re never far from a chance for a rapid top-up. And while I waited, I was able to go online and clear my emails, so even having to leave early had upsides, too. I’ll admit that my hand flicked from one set of keys to the other more than once but, after a calming few minutes online researching charger locations, I knew I had to live by my own words. And while I waited, I was able to go online and clear my emails, so even having to leave early had upsides, too. First impressions? To drive, it’s a cut above the average electric car – which means relaxing or fast on demand, with a frisson of dynamic excitement on offer, albeit one that can never hide its 2495kg kerb weight and sits short of what the I-Pace achieves. It’s a joy to be in, from its comfortable, beautifully upholstered seats to its abundance of practical cubbies. The massive, dasbhboard-length infotainment-and-instruments screen and the head-up display give a futuristic air, although I suspect it’s going to take time for the array of screen, dash and steering wheel buttons to all fall to hand intuitively. The voice-controlled ‘Hey Mercedes’ system helps with that but isn’t infallible as far as my southern English mumbling is concerned. Range will be interesting, too. As it dials into my driving style, an indicated 210 miles is being shown, rather than the official 232. Consider also that it seems to be rating its capabilities around 5% too highly and you end up with a car that records a sub-200-mile figure; that’s potentially 25% short of what I’d consider ideal and less than the Kia e-Niro offers for half the price. It will be interesting to find out if I can learn to use the various driving modes more efficiently and dial my driving style into the car better, too. Most exciting of all is the fact that the EQC is already pushing the boundaries of what I thought I knew about EVs or was willing to do. Question is, is it going to lead me down a path of fulfilment or trouble? Second Opinion I’m most interested to find out how Jim gets on with the EQC’s various driving modes and semi-autonomous driving aids. It’s a complicated thing to get on terms with, as I discovered on the international press launch in Oslo and on a group test. It just shaded its electric rivals in the latter, mostly by being the most multitalented car on the day. But the way the regenerative braking system manages itself around town if you leave it in Auto mode certainly raises some drivability quirks. 12. The Movement of Enterprises in France (MEDEF) — the largest employer association in the country — called on French companies to stay strong in the face of an ongoing boycott campaign prompted by overt Islamophobia. “The French principles of secularism and freedom of speech must take precedence over companies’ development plans,” Geoffroy Roux de Bezieux, MEDEF’s leader, said today. The statement from the business lobby leader came after thousands of Muslims launched a boycott campaign against French products. Activists launched the campaign in response to a rise in Islamophobic acts in France. “Of course this is bad news,” Roux de Bezieux told RMC radio, referring to the boycott campaign. However, according to the French businessman, companies must prioritize France’s “values of secularism and freedom of speech” and be stoic in their handling of the situation. Roux de Bezieux qualified the boycott campaign as “stupid” and urged French business leaders to “not answer stupidity with stupidity.” The campaign came after a series of acts that attacked Islam and Prophet Muhammad. Last week, French President Emmanuel Macron said that France “will not renounce” the caricatures and drawings depicting Prophet Muhammad, defending the “right of blasphemy.” The French government also allowed for the display of caricatures offending Muslims on some of its buildings. Countries such as Kuwait, Jordan, and Morocco have officially condemned the Islamophobic acts in France. Meanwhile, Turkey, along with NGOs and activists in several Muslim countries, went one step further and boycotted French products. Several supermarket chains in Qatar, Kuwait, and Jordan, among other countries, removed French products from their shelves, in a move that observers expect to significantly affect the French economy.

That's why we're keeping an up-to-date list of the best laptop deals we can find around the internet, just in case you need to upgrade or still don't have a laptop of your own yet. While Amazon's Prime Day shopping event may be over, Black Friday deals are right around the corner, so it's important to stay vigilant if you want to snatch up the most savings. On this page, you can expect to find bargains on all kinds of systems, from powerful gaming rigs to low-cost systems for kids to the slimmest ultraportables. For more savings, check out our lists of best tech deals overall, best monitor deals, best SSD deals, best gaming PC deals and best Raspberry Pi deals. Microsoft Surface Pro X tablet: was $1299, now $899 @Amazon This 13-inch surface tablet is usually priced around $1299 but is seriously discounted on Amazon to just $899. It has a touchscreen interface and features a 256GB storage capacity. This offer is for the tablet only with no accessories. ASUS - ROG Zephyrus G14: was $1449, now $1199 @BestBuy This gaming laptop has a screen spanning 14-inches across. It has an AMD Ryzen 9 processor and is currently marked down $250 through Best Buy
  16. Early Black Friday gaming laptop deals are still available today at Best Buy. Originally posted last week, we spotted this beast of a Ryzen 9 equipped Asus Zephyrus for just $1,199 (was $1,449.99) and we're still eyeing it up right now. The Asus Zephyrus G14 is currently ranked our best gaming laptop so we're always on the hunt for the best offers on this particularly awesome little machine. This is actually the lowest price we've seen this spec go for, and it's a fantastic deal considering you're getting one of the most powerful laptops on the market for a fraction of the price of a new Alienware. The AMD Ryzen 9-4900HS is a particular highlight in this spec, meaning you're not only getting a processor capable of excellent gaming performance, but also with plenty of grunt for productivity tasks. An RTX 2060 graphics card, 16GB of RAM, and a lavish 1TB SSD round out the specs here to make one extremely fast laptop capable of running even the most demanding games at high settings and 1080p resolution. Unfortunately for those on a budget, you've also just missed a similar deal on the baseline spec model, which was going for just $899 last week. We actually didn't think this one was quite as good value as the upgraded spec version, although it's still an extremely capable gaming laptop all around. If you did want to snag yourself that cheaper version, we'd bet money that it'll crop up again in next month's official Black Friday deals so fingers crossed you won't have long to wait. If you're eying up the upgraded spec that's still on sale right now, however, don't feel like you have to wait - Best Buy has guaranteed it won't go any lower come November. Not in the US?
