  1. The Division 2 Update 12 Goes Live Tuesday, Patch Notes Here The Division 2's Update 12 will introduce the game's next season, End of Watch, as well as adding several important new features to the game, like Optimization Station. The Division 2's next season is almost upon us, and we've got the patch notes that detail the changes that are coming to the game. Season 4 is titled End of Watch, and it will bring a new Manhunt, rewards, and a feature called Optimization Station that's designed to recalibrate the game's progression from the ground up. Update 12 will come to The Division 2 on Tuesday, with a three-hour downtime scheduled for 3:30 AM ET / 12:30 AM PT. The most notable addition will likely be the Optimization Station, which allows players to exchange resource currencies to wring out a higher gear score from their existing equipment. The materials required for this optimization process will be sourced from all over the game, from deconstructing high-end loot, defeating bosses, and completing multiplayer events like Summit floors. Speaking of the Summit, the update will also introduce some new changes to that mode, including the ability to activate two challenges at a time, and additional rewards for each challenge completed. The update adds numerous new weapons to the game, including a new Exotic shotgun called Scorpio and new named items, including a marksman rifle called the Scalpel.

  3. Apple Preparing Monster 32 Core HEDT CPU To Take Out The x86 Market Apple's M1 CPU is a very impressive 15W part and while it is certainly the fastest low power processor, it is nowhere near the fastest when compared to high-end x86 silicon from AMD and Intel. According to a recent report by Bloomberg (fair warning, this is the same publication that posted 'the big hack' story about a tiny and practically unfeasible Chinese chip which was never proven or retracted) Apple is currently working on a processor that should obliterate even the fastest x86 CPUs from Intel and AMD. Apple allegedly preparing 32-core HEDT CPU to replace Intel, 128-core discrete GPU to replace AMD All that said, the name of Bloomberg still means something so we will not be marking this as a rumor and I do personally believe this will very well turn out to be true. This would make for a very very interesting couple of years in the next decade as Apple - a company bursting with cash and the first-priority arrangement with TSMC - enters the high-performance computing ring and attempts to do something no other ARM-based company has ever succeeded at. Apple has already announced its intentions to start moving away from the x86 ecosystem and this is something we believe is in the best interest of the company considering the x86 champion is asleep at the wheel. According to the Bloomberg report, the company is already working on a 8-core (the M1 is 4+4), 12-core, and 16-core mainstream CPU part which should be rolled out soon enough. But that's not it, the company is also working on a 32-core HEDT part that will likely be featured in its Mac Pro series - which currently features Intel's 28-core parts. Keep in mind, we are assuming that their desktop chips will have big cores and it could also turn out that there are small cores in the core count as well (although I would consider that unlikely). On the GPU side, Apple is using AMD's discrete GPUs and reportedly plans to phase them out as well with their in-house silicon. The home-grown GPU will have up to128 cores and will replace the Radeon designs currently being used. 16 and 32 core parts for mobile and 64 core parts for desktop are already in active development and will be significantly faster than the Radeon GPUs they replace. One of the major reasons why ARM-based competitors have never been successful in the past is because Intel has historically enjoyed a node lead of roughly 1.5 to 2 years over the entire industry. This not only boosts the performance of the underlying architecture but also makes it very hard to compete. Fortunately (or unfortunately depending on whose side you are on), Intel's lead has not only ended but the company is actually lagging slightly behind TSMC right now. Keep in mind the marketing names of the processes mean nothing, if you look at the fin pitch and gate pitch, TSMC's 7nm process is roughly equal to Intel's 10nm. But 5nm is a full node advantage over the company's 10nm process (which isn't even fully out of the gate I might add). AMD has to rely on TSMC but the latter does not give it first priority treatment and it always gets more affordable levels of nodes (N+1) when compared to Apple - which usually gets the latest and greatest. This means that as far as nodes go, and considering the pile of cash they are sitting on, Apple has it pretty much in the bag. Nothing short of a complete miracle will stop Apple from retaining its process advantage over the next half-decade. The second major reason is that of clock speeds. One major reason why x86 has (historically) always fared well in high-performance tasks (and conversely not been very good at low power tasks) is that it can sustain very high clock speeds without any leakage. With Intel struggling to keep up and AMD CPU design focusing on IPC rather than clock speeds, the door is wide open for an IPC-centric competitor to take Intel and AMD's figurative lunch. Based on the current trajectory, and if this report turns out to be true, a 32-core Apple CPU that can clock even remotely close to the M1 should essentially destroy 32-core parts from Intel and AMD. We do expect Apple to easily be able to create GPUs with higher perf/watt than the AMD Radeon designs currently being used - which are mostly part of the mid-end spectrum.

  5. Fortnite Season 5 Adds Baby Yoda, Bounties, Kratos, And More Fortnite Chapter 2: Season 5: Zero Point is the latest major update to the battle royale game. The Zero Point has been exposed, and Fortnite's Season 5 has begun. Here's what you need to know about Fortnite Season 5 and what to expect from the new v15.00 update, which is now available across all active platforms (sorry, iOS users). Although we don't have Season 5 patch notes, there's a new Battle Pass full of challenges and skins--including one for the Mandalorian--some significant changes to the map, and much more to check out. You have plenty to do with the new update, including special bounties on other players. There also appear to be more famous characters on the way. This could be the most eclectic season for content to date. Battle Pass The new Battle Pass, as rumored, includes content from the Star Wars TV show, The Mandalorian. Players can unlock a skin based on the Mandalorian himself by simply purchasing the Battle Pass, and then challenges--such as one to visit the Razor Crest--will unlock additional customization options for it. By ranking up the Battle Pass, you can unlock tons of rewards, both Star Wars-inspired and otherwise, while making it to rank 100 will get you both The Child (aka Baby Yoda) as a pet and an additional clothing style for the Mando skin. At the higher ranks, there is a secret skin and back bling for players to eventually unlock, although it's unclear what that might relate to. We also got confirmation of Kratos from the God of War series appearing in the game, though that's a separate purchase rather than part of the battle pass. PS5 players get an extra armor skin, too. We've seen rumors of Master Chief and other Halo goodies coming in the future. This has yet to be confirmed. If true, it could include famous vehicles such as the Pelican dropship. As usual, you can unlock the new Battle Pass content through gameplay or by spending real money to get the items faster. This Battle Pass is priced at the usual 950 V-Bucks (just under $10) or, for the first time, you can join Fortnite Crew, a monthly subscription service that includes V-Bucks, access to the Battle Pass, and more perks. New Weapons and Items The Zero Point update also introduces new weapons, including the Dragon's Breath shotgun and Night Hawk. Another one is The Mandalorian's Amban Sniper rifle, which lets you switch between melee and ranged. One way you can get that is by heading to Mando's ship and taking out the AI enemy nearby. You need to reach that ship to get a piece of armor, as well. More weapons are coming throughout the Season 5 update, so you can expect a bigger arsenal over time. With any luck, there will be more Star Wars weapons, but the Zero Point theme could mean they come from different franchises. A new form of currency, Bars, are also now available in Fortnite. You can earn them by completing quests and bounties; they are also earned by racking up kills and finding hidden items on the map. These Bars can be spent on Exotic weapons and upgrades, among other things.
  6. Samsung's 2021 foldables get their screen specs and schedules leaked Here's what's coming... maybe Samsung has gone big on foldables in 2020, but expect even more bending handsets from the company in 2021. A new report out of South Korea gives us a bit more of an idea about what to expect in terms of Samsung foldables next year. According to The Elec, which is usually a reliable source of information, we'll be getting the more affordable Galaxy Z Fold Lite in the first quarter of 2021, to be followed by the Galaxy Z Flip 2 and Galaxy Z Fold 3 flagships in the third quarter of 2021. We've been hearing rumblings about a less expensive version of the Galaxy Fold for several months now – it's an approach Samsung has taken with its other phones in recent years, and it would help attract users currently put off by the high prices of foldables. Samsung is dropping support for older wearables Apple launches an iPhone 11 replacement program Next-gen consoles have made ray tracing cool There have also been rumors of a Galaxy Z Flip Lite as well – using a clamshell design – so we could see as many as four foldables from Samsung next year. None of this is confirmed yet though, and it's very possible that Samsung's plans will change along the way. Those foldables in full The sources speaking to The Elec say that both the Galaxy Z Fold Lite and the Galaxy Z Fold 3 will come with a screen that measures 7 inches corner to corner, with a 4-inch display on the outside when the device is closed shut. We're apparently also going to get stylus support and an under-display selfie camera on the Galaxy Z Fold 3 – rumors we've heard before. It's not clear whether these features will make it to the lower-cost Z Fold Lite though. As for the Galaxy Z Flip 2, the leaks and speculation so far point to it having a bigger screen and battery than the original. The new report puts the main screen at 6.7 inches, and the external screen at 3 inches. With the Galaxy Z Fold 2 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5G only unveiled in August, Samsung will want to leave some time before the updated versions appear – and that fits in with the Q3 prediction. Before that, we should see the Z Fold Lite, as well as the Galaxy S21 phones.
  7. AMD Radeon RX GPUs Witnessed Market Share Gain Versus NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPUs in Q3 2020 The latest AIB and GPU market share reports from research analyst, Jon Peddie, are out at JPR which show AMD's Radeon RX GPUs gaining market share compared to NVIDIA's GeForce RTX lineup in the third quarter of 2020. NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPUs Hold Dominant Position With a 77% Discrete GPU Market Share While AMD Radeon RX GPUs Start Gaining Back Lost Ground First up, we have the overall GPU report which shows that shipments for PC GPUs increased by 10.3% from the previous quarter. Despite the ongoing global pandemic (COVID-19), gamers are investing more savings towards PC hardware and peripherals, keeping the market vibrant and lively. Since most gamers and even regular consumers have nothing else to do, they are buying more gaming hardware to spend their time enjoying at home & this has driven unprecedented amounts of PC hardware and peripherals sales in the segment. As per the report, GPU makers also saw increased shipments with AMD's shipments increasing 18.7%, NVIDIA's shipments increasing 10.8% and Intel's shipments increasing 7.8% compared to the previous quarter. This led to AMD's market share climbing by 1.3%, NVIDIA's market share by 0.09%, and Intel's market share slightly declining by -1.4%. The overall GPU market share stands at 62% for Intel, and 19% for both AMD & NVIDIA. “The AIB market reached $14.8 billion last year,” said Dr. Jon Peddie. “We forecast it to be $20.3 billion by 2023. Intel entered the OEM AIB market in Q4’20. The company will introduce a consumer AIB by Q2’21. Since 1981, 2,077 million AIBs have shipped.” At the same time, these numbers came before the launch of both NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 30 GPUs based on the Ampere architecture and the AMD Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs based on the RDNA 2 architecture. In Q4 2020, we could potentially see NVIDIA gaining back share since their lineup is ranged from the RTX 3060 Ti which starts at $399 US and goes all the way up to the $1499 US RTX 3090 whereas AMD has only focused its launch on $500 US+ variants which are attractive in their own right with absolutely stellar performance and efficiency figures but don't cover the mainstream market as much as the RTX 3060 Ti does. Intel also offered its first mainstream discrete GPU, the Iris Xe Max, for its Tiger Lake-based laptops. The Iris Xe Max is the first of many discrete GPUs that the company is going to offer in the coming years on both the desktop and notebook segment. The Xe-based lineup will be competing against both AMD and NVIDIA and we will definitely start seeing them making some ground in the AIB GPU share by the end of 2021.
