A newly leaked slide suggests Intel may adopt a design strategy similar to ARM's big.LITTLE approach with a segment of its upcoming Rocket Lake processors, and specifically at least one of its Rocket Lake-S vPro CPUs. Or it could be a typo (assuming the slide is real to begin with), though this is the not first rumor to attach Intel to a big.LITTLE design scheme. Last month, Intel uploaded some interesting documents to its technical library in reference to Alder Lake, which will come after Rocket Lake and power Intel's eventual 12th generation Core processor stack (presumably, anyway). Those documents pointed to a new socket, LGA 1700, which does not come as a surprise. However, the same leaker who took a screenshot of the documents had also previously obtained a slide claiming Alder Lake will arrive with up to 16 cores arranged in big/little format similar (though not identical) to ARM's big.LITTLE layout. The slide indicated that at least two Alder Lake processors would feature 8 big cores and 8 little cores, plus onboard graphics (for an 8+8+1 configuration). Fast forward to today and the folks at Videocardz posted a photo of a slide it obtained from a "reliable source." The picture shows three Rocket Lake-S vPro processors, one of which sports an uneven core/thread arrangement. Have a look... The top part is a Core i9 chip listed as having 8 cores and 16 threads while the bottom SKU shows a Core i5 CPU with 6 cores and 12 threads. Nothing unusual with either of those. However, sandwiched in between those two models is a Core i7 part listed as having 8 cores and 12 threads. Is that a typo or actually representative of the core and thread counts? Whoever provided the picture was not able to say, though the unusual core and thread configuration is the reason why they shared the photo. Presuming this is both real and an accurate reflection of Intel's upcoming CPUs (none of which we can say with any level of certainty), bear in mind that it's a limited snapshot of the vPro series. Who knows if the regular (read: non-vPro) versions of Rocket Lake-S would follow the same design scheme. Another possibility here is that Intel is disabling Hyper Threading on some of the cores, rather than adopting a big/little design. If we had to guess, though, we'd say it's likely a mistake.

It may take about 10 hours for players who experience for the first time. There are four difficulty mode in the game, among which the most advanced nightmare mode needs to be unlocked after the game is accomplished once, we hope you can get the highest rating on the nightmare difficulty mode. Story Yet again, Yang Mingyuan awakens from a nightmare with a start; gripped by an unshakable sense of terror. Upon closing his eyes, the same scene plays, as if projected upon the insides of his eyelids—a rotten old mansion, a gloomy hall of mourning, ethereal shadows, and eerie paper dolls. It plays repeatedly, relentlessly. He hears a voice calling him, a murmur urging him forth, and yet he cannot make out exactly what it says. Yang Mingyuan watches the setting sun through the window, painting the sky red. He puts this all down to work stress and his other worries. "Just take it one day at a time…", he tells himself. He picks up his jacket and car keys, and tells his daughter to pack for the journey. That's right, she's going back to her mother's place today. About to close the door, he sees the box of medicine on the table and hesitates for a short moment. "Those blasted dreams must be some side effect of the medicine. "I'll toss the whole lot out, and get myself a new doctor!", he decides, before slamming the door shut. As the highway lights fade into streaks as they speed by, the light starts to dazzle him, and that's when the familiar voice returns. His daughter seems to be saying something, but even sat right beside him, he can't hear a thing: it's as if they were miles apart. What… What do you want!? Out with it!", he roars hysterically. Dimly ahead there's a light flashing, and a loud bang follows, and then utter silence… "This is…" When Yang Mingyuan comes to, he finds himself at an old and abandoned mansion. It is familiar yet alien to him, like a half-forgotten dream. The faint call of his daughter pulls him out of his daze, and he manages to rise up, albeit with considerable effort. He follows her voice into the deep darkness. What secrets do the mysteries within hold? The truth shall be unraveled, one piece at a time… The Old Yin Mansion In Beijing's western suburbs lies a mansion upon a wooded mountain. At the end of the Qing dynasty it belonged to the Yin family; the master of which was born into aristocracy, attaining great success as a youth and was highly valued by the imperial court. Leading an army, he pacified the lands far and wide, and would later marry a woman of similar social standing. Yet, their good fortune was to be short lived. When power over the imperial court shifted, Master Yin fell into a deep depression, and decided to live in seclusion. Thus, he chose a patch of land with suitable feng shui, with both mountains and rivers, and built his mansion. The only ones accompanying him were his personal attendants and two disciples. One of which was the erudite scholar Mr. Liu, the other Zhao, an expert painter. While his life was markedly more lonely than before, it was peaceful. Master Yin had wanted a son for many long years, and finally, the Mistress became pregnant. Yet, this created ripples much like a stone upon a still pond. Terrible rumors were spread, stirring the hearts of those in the mansion, and a series of tragedies came to pass… A heavy rainstorm fell upon the land, continuing for several months. Having cleared up, the mansion had simply disappeared from existence, its inhabitants vanishing from memory, together with their secrets… GAMEPLAY A first-person horror adventure game. Players must explore the gloomy ancient mansion and discover the unknown secrets behind the story. FEATURE Explore Search for your daughter in a gloomy Chinese mansion of the Qing dynasty, experience this terrifying journey of thrills and confusion. Adventure The path to his daughter is riddled with obstacles: how will you help him avoid, shake off, and defeat the many lost souls of the dead? As the story unravels, the truth gradually comes into light. Survival Those who die with unfinished business turn into restless spirits. For some reason, this manor is home to many such spirits and a single misstep may lead you into death's cold embrace. Puzzles Yet, the spirits of the dead are not your only worries. As terror looms in every corner, you must attempt to remain calm and solve the mysteries within. By piecing together what happened there, you will gain the knowledge required to open a gate—a gate that has been sealed shut for a hundred years. Collect Find all of the messages and information, discover the horrible truth of this hundred-year-old mansion. Please note: The sound is an important basis for storyline and foreseeing hazards. Details on a Nest-branded speaker that will replace the Google Home have leaked recently. Rather than continue to ignore the leaks, Google has released a video that gives a glimpse of what the Nest Team is working on from home. In the background in the early scenes of that video, we see the Nest Speaker that has been leaked and will replace the Google Home. The Nest Speaker is seen in the video comes in both light blue and coral colors. A gray color has been spied in regulatory filings. While little is known about the hardware details of the Nest Speaker, speculation suggests that users can link a pair of them for stereo sound (as seen in the video below). Past Google Home smart speakers have also supported stereo linking. All we know about the Nest Speaker is what we can see, it's tall and rectangular with curved edges. The familiar LED lights from past Google Home devices are in the center of the speaker. This isn't the first time that Google has offered a glimpse at products that have been leaked ahead of the official launch. It did so in the past with the Pixel 4. Not long ago, we caught a glimpse at another leaked product, the long-rumored Nest-branded Android TV dongle from Google. It's become virtually impossible for tech companies to prevent leaks, with many surfacing from supply chain sources overseas. Both Google and Apple have had problems with leaks, but it's interesting to see Google attempting to take back some control of the narrative of its future products by showing off its hardware early to thwart leaker.

Kingston recently released its DC1000M series of solid-state drives for data center applications, capped off by a massive 7.68TB model. The DC1000M series leverages a hot-pluggable U.2 (2.5”, 15mm) form factor, that’s compatible with U.2 backplanes and the drives target mixed-use, data-intensive workloads, including Cloud computing, web hosting, high-performance computing (HPC), virtual infrastructures, and AI and deep learning applications. There are four drives in the initial Kingston DC1000M family, bookended by a 960GB model and the aforementioned 7.68TB behemoth. We’ve got a 3.84TB model on hand, which we’ll be showing you here. If you peruse the drives’ main features and specifications below, you’ll see very little separates the drive models, save for differing write speeds and IO performance. Take a peek for yourself and then we’ll dig in a little deeper and see how the Kingston DC1000M performs in comparison to a couple of its peers... Kingston DC1000M SSD Specifications & Features Form factor U.2, 2.5” x 15mm Interface PCIe NVMe Gen3 x4 Capacities 960GB, 1.92TB, 3.84TB, 7.68TB NAND 3D TLC Sequential read/write 960GB – 3,100MBs/1330MBs 1.92TB – 3,100MBs/2600MBs 3.84TB – 3,100MBs/2700MBs 7.68TB – 3,100MBs/2800MBs Steady-state 4k read/write 960GB – 400,000/125,000 IOPS 1.92TB – 540,000/205,000 IOPS 3.84TB – 525,000/210,000 IOPS 7.68TB – 485,000/210,000 IOPS Latency TYP read/write: <300 µs / <1 ms Static and dynamic wear levelling Yes Power loss protection (power caps) Yes Enterprise SMART tools Reliability tracking, usage statistics, SSD life remaining, wear leveling, temperature Endurance 960GB — 1681TBW (1 DWPD/5yrs) 1.92TB — 3362TBW (1 DWPD/5yrs) 3.84TB — 6725TBW (1 DWPD/5yrs) 7.68TB — 13450TBW (1 DWPD/5yrs) Power consumption 960GB: Idle: 5.14W Average Read: 5.25W Average Write: 9.10W Max Read: 5.64W Max Write: 9.80W 1.92TB: Idle: 5.22W Average Read: 5.31W Average Write: 13.1W Max Read: 5.70W Max Write: 13.92W 3.84TB: Idle: 5.54W Average Read: 5.31W Average Write: 14.69W Max Read: 6.10W Max Write: 15.5W 7.68TB: Idle: 5.74W Average Read: 5.99W Average Write: 17.06W Max Read: 6.63W Max Write: 17.88W Storage / Operating Temperature -40°C ~ 85°C / 0°C ~ 70°C Dimensions / Weight 100.09mm x 69.84mm x 14.75mm / 160(g) Vibration operating / non-operating 2.17G peak (7-800Hz) / 20G peak (10-2,000Hz) MTBF 2 million hours Warranty / support Limited 5-year warranty with free technical support Kingston DC1000M SSDs feature 96-layer 3D NAND flash memory, a native NVMe PCI Express Gen 3.0 x4 interface and offer read speeds north of 3.1GB/s, with writes ranging from 1.33GB/s for the 960GB model to the 2.8GB/s for the top-end 7.78TB drive. The 3.84TB drive we evaluated isn’t too far behind at 2.7GB/s. Kingston’s specifications claim the DC1000M is designed to deliver up to 540K IOPS of random read performance with QoS designed to ensure “predictable random IO performance as well as predictable latencies over a wide range of workloads.” Endurance is rated for 1 DWPD (Drive Write Per Day) for 5 years with a 2 million hour mean time before failure. Of course, the drives offer reliability and usage statistics tracking, SMART monitoring, static and dynamic wear leveling, and temperature sensors, which are important to data center use cases. They also offer end-to-end power loss protection as well. Power consumption varies depending on the capacity, but ranges from the low 5W to 6W range for average reads and writes to a range of 9.8W – 17.88W for maximum writes. All of the drives carry a limited 5-year warranty, which is fairly standard for this class of product.

Microsoft continues to take a cautious approach to rolling out the May 2020 Update to Windows 10, with a staggered release schedule to avoid the kind of messy situation it had to deal with way back when the October 2018 Update arrived. That is a wise decision on Microsoft's part. However, where Microsoft could do a better job is in communicating with Windows 10 users why exactly they are not receiving the latest update yet. Like many others, I have still not received the May 2020 Update on my main PC. Initially, the message displayed within the Windows Update dialog box indicated there was a compatibility issue, and that there was nothing I needed to do but sit back and wait. More recently, the error message slightly changed to simply say, "The Windows 10 May 2020 Update is on its way. Once its ready for your device, you'll see the update available at on this page." It appears these blocks could be on the rise, as more problems emerge. People who are in the same boat as me can attempt to force an update by using Microsoft's update assistant tool. I would not advise going that route, but even if you do, it is not a guaranteed way of getting it installed. Instead, you could run into another, slightly different error message. I decided to throw caution to the wind and give it a whirl (again), and here's what happened after the update assistant tool got to the point where it appeared to be putting on the final touches... "Your PC settings aren't supported yet on this version of Windows 10. Microsoft is working to support your settings soon. No action is needed. Windows Update will offer this version of Windows 10 automatically when these settings are supported," the error message reads. Do'h! There are multiple threads on Microsoft's support forums complaining of this same, slightly informative (but not really) message. From our vantage point, Microsoft appears to be erring on the side of caution in light of the various issues that have popped up. They include... LSASS failures and reboots OneDrive file syncing issues File corruption with Windows spaces Login headaches on Chrome Breaking 'Fresh Start' functionality Borking printers There have been other issues as well. It's not clear how many people are actually affected by the various bugs, but regardless, I have no problem with Microsoft taking its time on this (the May 2020 Update launched to the public nearly six weeks ago). What's frustrating is the vagueness. Previously, I suspected that my discrete sound card might be causing the delay, or some other piece of hardware. But according to the above error message, there is something amiss with my "PC settings," which I suppose could still be the sound card. Or not. Who really knows? Not me, and therein lies the problem.

Xbox gamers know that Microsoft is working on its Project xCloud game streaming service that's expected to launch later this year as part of the Xbox Game Pass. The coolest part about that service is that it will allow gamers to stream titles they would typically play on the console to their smartphone. As Microsoft is gearing up for that launch, accessory makers are also getting ready with controllers meant for use with portable devices. One such controller is this 8Bitdo Sn30 Pro designed for the xCloud game streaming service on Android devices. The 8Bitdo Sn30 Pro can be preordered on Amazon right now for $44.99 and is available with free Prime shipping on September 21. The controller is arranged as you would expect an Xbox controller to be with a pair of thumb sticks down low, a D-pad on the left, a quartet of buttons on the right, two shoulder buttons, and two triggers under the shoulder buttons. The controller also has an integrated Xbox button and what appears to be a button for switching apps on Android devices along with a menu button. 8Bitdo Sn30 Pro for Xbox Cloud Gaming - $44.99 on Amazon The controller also ships with a removable mobile gaming clip that has adjustable positioning and supports large smartphones. The minimum smartphone width it accommodates is 49 mm, and the maximum is 86 mm. The controller connects to the Android device using Bluetooth and has an internal battery good for up to 18 hours per charge. The controller also supports button mapping allowing users to assign the buttons to whatever control they want. Now that controllers for the Xbox Game Pass xCloud game streaming service are available, gamers should be more excited than ever about the streaming service launching. Xbox's Phil Spencer confirmed in April that the xCloud game streaming service would launch later this year.

Windows 10, version 2004, or the Windows 10 May 2020 update, has been plagued with a variety of issues, including corrupted files in Storage Spaces. Microsoft has finally released a workaround for Storage Spaces that should help users that have already updated to Windows 10 version 2004. The main purpose of Storage Spaces is to protect a user from drive failures by saving to files to multiple drives. Unfortunately, several users reported that their files in the Storage Spaces “parity spaces” had been corrupted after updating to Windows 10 version 2004. For example, one user noted, “My 20TB parity storage space shows up now as RAW, no accessible files. Storage Spaces tool and PowerShell show it as healthy, containing data.” Another user remarked that they had noticed that the photos they keep within their parity storage space had been corrupted. Microsoft has therefore released two troubleshooters — a hardware and devices troubleshooter and a Storage Space troubleshooter. The hardware and devices troubleshooter “will prevent issues with the data on your Storage Spaces.” Users will be unable to write to their Storage Spaces once the troubleshooter has been run. The Storage Space troubleshooter “will mitigate the issue for some users and will restore read and write access to your Parity Storage Spaces.” It is important to note that neither troubleshooter will provide a complete fix for all users. The troubleshooters have been released to a handful of Windows 10 version 2004 devices. Microsoft has also provided IT professionals with a guide to manually administer the hardware and devices troubleshooter. They do not currently have comparable instructions for the Storage space troubleshooter. You can check that the troubleshooter has been run by going to your “Start menu” and typing in and selecting “Troubleshoot settings.” You will then need to click on “View troubleshooting history.” You should see the above titles and descriptions of the troubleshooters. Some users may see the message that the troubleshooter could not be run. Microsoft states that this message is expected if you have a device that is using Simple Storage Spaces or Mirror Storage Spaces. Neither Simple Storage Space nor Mirror Storage Spaces are affected by the bug. However, if you see this message and do use Parity Storage Spaces you will need to take additional steps. You can find more details about manual workaround and recovery steps here. You will not be able to update to Windows 10 version 2004 if you do use Parity Storage Spaces. You will receive the message that your device is not yet supported. Microsoft states that there is nothing further you will need to do except wait for them to fix the problem. Windows 10 version 2004 has been particularly frustrating for users. They have released a few fixes and workarounds, but there are still a bevy of unresolved issues. To top it off, Microsoft has now decreased the amount of time that Enterprise and Education customers have to defer the update. Windows 10 end users can now only defer the update for 35 days

The July 4th (Independence Day) holiday is tomorrow, which means that many folks will be setting off fireworks, enjoying time with friends (socially distanced, of course), and grilling a few burgers and dogs. This weekend also represents a good time to score some discounts on tech gear, particularly if you’re heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem. Apple Watch Series 3 Deals The Apple Watch Series 3 is a few years old, but it is still an incredibly po[CENSORED]r smartwatch that Apple has decided to keep around to occupy the entry-level market. The 38mm watch typically retails for $199, but Amazon is knocking $30 off the price, bringing it down to just $169. That price is for either the Space Gray or Silver Aluminum case finish. It should also be noted that despite the age of the Apple Watch Series 3, it is still eligible for the watchOS 7 update that will arrive in the fall. That means that you'll get at least another year of feature/security updates for the device, and perhaps even longer, considering that Apple is still currently selling the device. Apple HomePod Deals If playing some sweet tunes is more up your alley, the Apple HomePod has returned to its low price of $199.99 at Best Buy. The Siri-enabled speaker originally debuted at $349, and wasn't exactly a hot seller. Apple later reduced the price to $299, and from time to time that price dips to the current $199 at the retail level. At this year's WWDC, Apple announced that the HomePod will get a software update this fall that will allow the speaker to add native support for third-party streaming services like Spotify (which has been a long-requested feature from customers). Previously, the HomePod only natively supported Apple Music. iPad Pro (2018) Deals The 2018 iPad Pro may be Apple's previous generation flagship tablet, but it is by no means a bad buy. In fact, the new iPad Pro (2020) only brings a slightly upgraded A12Z Bionic SoC to the table and a LiDAR sensor. But since it is no longer Apple's latest and greatest tablet, there are great discounts to be had. If you want the top dog 12.9-inch model with 1TB of storage onboard, it typically runs at $1,549. However, Amazon is currently selling it for $1,299.99, which represents a $249 discount. If your budget is a bit tighter, the 11-inch iPad Pro is available for just $719.58, which is a nice discount from its regular price of $799.
