  2. No matter how hard you try to style your tresses, if it’s not healthy from inside, no styling product can come to its rescue. Taking care of your locks might look like a mammoth task, but if done right it’s a piece of cake. You just need to know the right tricks! To make your life easier, here are a few haircare tips you can follow for shiny, healthy hair. For frizz-free, straighter mane: If you want to have sleek, straight hair but want to stay away from heating products and chemicals then we have just the right solution for you. This lemon juice and coconut milk paste is a thing of wonder. When mixed, thse ingredients act as a cream conditioner which in turn helps straighten the hair. All you have to do is wash your hair with lukewarm water after you apply it and leave it on for 20 mins. Use it twice a week and you will notice a difference. However, there’s another alternative to this. You can also make a paste of bananas, yogurt, honey and olive oil. Just mash two bananas with two tablespoons of honey, yogurt and olive oil, mix well and keep it in the fridge for 30 mins. Apply the paste on your locks and cover it with a towel or a shower cap for an hour and then rinse with cold water. Hair massage at home: Massaging your scalp for a few minutes everyday is a very good thing as it stimulates circulation. Just in case you aren’t aware, good circulation keeps hair follicles active. On days when you want to pamper your tresses then you can take olive or coconut oil, mix two drops of lemon in it and massage it gently into your scalp. Leave it on for an hour and then shampoo your hair. Also, you can use aloe vera gel to fight split ends, hair fall and dandruff as it restores the pH balance, reduces hair bacteria and relieves scalp itching. Hair wash routine: It is advisable to wash your hair two to three times a week as it keeps your scalp clean. But that’s not enough, it’s also important to condition your hair after a wash as it further prevents fungal infection. The best way to do it is to use a wide-tooth comb to spread the conditioner and rinse it with cold water. This provides a shine to your hair cuticles.
  3. During the Communist period, Romania was one of the largest automobile producers in Central and Eastern Europe, however the industry declined after the 1989 revolution. Previously, other domestic manufacturers such as Tractorul Braşov, ARO and Oltcit existed, however they eventually went bankrupt due to botched privatization in the 1990s. Since 1990, several foreign companies, including Mercedes, Audi, Hyundai, Volvo, Toyota, and Peugeot, expressed interest in opening branch plants in Romania.[2] In 2014, the Romanian automotive industry ranks fifth in Central and Eastern Europe, behind that of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, and Poland. Ford bought the Automobile Craiova plant for $57 million, planning to produce automobiles at a rate of over 300,000 units a year by 2010.[3][4][5] Ford said it would invest €675 million (US$923 million) in the former Daewoo car factory and that it would buy supplies from the Romanian market worth €1 billion (US$1.39 billion).[6] In September 2009, the company began to assemble the Ford Transit Connect in Craiova, and in 2012, production of the new Ford B-Max was started.[7] Robert Bosch GmbH, the world’s largest supplier of automotive components will invest as much as 60 million euros ($79 million) in a new factory in Jucu - Romania. The new Bosch facility will produce electronic components for automobiles, and will create about 2,000 jobs.[8] Dacia Logan was the top-selling new car in Central and Eastern Europe in the first half of 2007 with 52,750 units sold, ahead of Skoda Fabia (41,227 units), Skoda Octavia (33,483 units), Opel Astra (16,442 units) and Ford Focus (14,909 units).[9] In 2012, Dacia launched four new models, the Lodgy and the Dokker,[10] and the second generations of the Logan and Sandero,[11] whereas Ford launched their new mini MPV, the B-Max. The both manufacturers also introduced two new and technologically advanced turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engines (the 1.0-litre EcoBoost and the 0.9-litre TCe engine),[12] which are locally produced and represented premieres in their segments.[13][14] Active manufacturers[edit] DAC shelter carrier Astra Cibro DAC Dacia El Car Ford Romania Grivbuz ROMAN Defunct manufacturers[edit] ARO 10 (4x4) AA&WF ARO Automobile Craiova Malaxa Oltcit Rocar References[edit] Jump up ^ "El Car". 4.

  6. The average net salary in the insurance sector is twice bigger compared to the average net salary in the economy. The insurance industry, despite struggling with losses for ten years, is one of the top industries with some of the highest average net salaries. Employees in insurance earned an average net wage of almost EUR 1,000 in July, up 20% year-on-year, reports local Ziarul Financiar. By comparison, the net wage in the economy rose only by 13% during this period reaching EUR 460. The net salary in the insurance sector managed to exceed the net wage in the banking sector, which reached some EUR 966. The insurance sector recorded both layoffs, with 600 employees leaving from the nine largest insurers last years, and higher salaries. Between July 2008 and July this year, the sector recorded losses of RON 3 billion (EUR 674 million), but the average net wage doubled. editor@romania-insider.com

  9. There is a phrase in English when someone gets a big salary that they earn "telephone numbers". A man in New York is suing the city (and others) for so much that it is almost impossible to think of a comparison. Anton Purisima, 62, is suing for two undecillion dollars. Over 99.99 per cent of English speakers would not know or have heard of the word for this amount. That astronomical figure is two undecillion dollars – a two followed by 36 zeros. The only people who are likely to need this word are probably astrophysicists and astronomers. Two undecillion dollars is, in fact, more than all the money in the whole world. Even more than all the wealth created throughout humankind's entire history. E-mail this lesson to someone who would like to use it in classroom or study with it. 000's more free lessons. So what did New York City do so wrong to be sued for such a mind-bogglingly gargantuan sum? Quite a lot, it seems. The New York Post reports that Mr Purisima is suing the city (as well as two local hospitals, LaGuardia Airport, the transportation system, a bakery and even a dog owner) for "civil-rights violations, personal injury, discrimination in national origin, retaliation, harassment, fraud, attempted murder, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and conspiracy to defraud". Why? Well, it's because last month a "rabies-infected" dog bit his finger on a city bus; then, a "Chinese couple" took photos of him without asking; and to add insult to injury, he is routinely overcharged for coffee at LaGuardia Airport. 11. Apple launched its new iPhone 7 this week. This time, the company is using the slogan "This is 7". It's quite dull. But over in Hong Kong, where Cantonese is spoken, the phrase a little more interesting. Translating English into the languages spoken in China is difficult, and "This is 7" varies a lot. In Mandarin, which is spoken in most of the country, Apple's new slogan reads as "7, is here". In Taiwan, the phrase loosely translates to "Exactly is 7". In Cantonese, spoken in Hong Kong, it's "This, is exactly 7". AppleApple iPhone 7Apple iPhone 7 None of the translated slogans sound very good, but to us, none of them sound rude, do they? Well, the US site Quartz explains that in Hong Kong, “seven,” or "柒", is pronounced "chat", and is also slang for “penis.” "This is penis". Well played, Apple. Fortunately, chat isn't very offensive. It's used for the purposes of banter – friends might say "ha, you are so seven" if they see their friend say something stupid on Tinder, for example. People in Hong Kong are already laughing at Apple's new iPhone slogan. On one Facebook post about the Chinese translations, one local mocked: “Without a 3.5mm earbud jack, this is exactly penis".
  12. South Korea has a plan to annihilate the North Korean capital if it shows any signs of mounting a nuclear attack, according to reports from Seoul. A military source told the Yonhap news agency every part of Pyongyang "will be completely destroyed by ballistic missiles and high-explosives shells". Yonhap has close ties to South Korea's government and is publicly funded. On Friday North Korea carried out what it said was its fifth, and largest, nuclear test. The international community is considering its response. The US says it is considering its own sanctions, in addition to any imposed by the UN Security Council, Japan and South Korea. Pyongyang responded on Sunday by calling the threats of "meaningless sanctions... highly laughable". What to look for in North Korea's fifth nuclear test Stages of an underground nuclear test What did N Korea learn from its previous tests? Could North Korea carry out a nuclear attack? The South Korean military official told Yonhap that Pyongyang districts thought to be hiding the North's leadership would be particularly targeted in any attack. The city, the source said, "will be reduced to ashes and removed from the map". The BBC's Korea correspondent Steve Evans says the South is using the same bloodcurdling rhetoric that the North frequently uses about the South Korean government in Seoul. He says there has been rising criticism within South Korea of the government as its attempts to isolate the North have failed to deter leader Kim Jong-un's nuclear ambitions. News of South Korea's attack plan for the North is believed to have been revealed to parliament following Friday's nuclear test. "North Korea continues to present a growing threat to the region, to our allies, to ourselves, and we will do everything possible to defend against that growing threat," Sung Kim said. "In addition to sanctions in the Security Council, both the US and Japan, together with [South Korea], will be looking at any unilateral measures as well as bilateral measures as well as possible trilateral cooperation." The North said Friday's test had been of a "nuclear warhead that has been standardised to be able to be mounted on strategic ballistic rockets". Estimates of the explosive yield of the latest blast have varied. South Korea's military said it was about 10 kilotonnes, enough to make it the North's "strongest nuclear test ever". Other experts say initial indications suggest 20 kilotonnes or more. The nuclear bomb dropped by the US on Hiroshima in 1945 had a yield of about 15 kilotonnes.

  14. UK air pollution levels have fallen sharply since the last century "Air pollution particles linked to Alzheimer's found in human brain," Sky News reports after new research found tiny particles of magnetite – a potentially toxic by-product of traffic pollution – in samples of brain tissue. The samples, obtained after death, were taken from 29 people from Mexico City and eight people from Manchester. Magnetite is formed naturally in small quantities in the body, but the shapes of the naturally formed particles are jagged and irregular, while the particles found in the brain samples were spherical with smooth, fused Wednesday September 7 2016 "Air pollution particles linked to Alzheimer's found in human brain," Sky News reports after new research found tiny particles of magnetite – a potentially toxic by-product of traffic pollution – in samples of brain tissue. The samples, obtained after death, were taken from 29 people from Mexico City and eight people from Manchester. Magnetite is formed naturally in small quantities in the body, but the shapes of the naturally formed particles are jagged and irregular, while the particles found in the brain samples were spherical with smooth, fused surfaces. Magnetite may increase oxidative damage – damage caused at the molecular level – to brain cells, especially in the presence protein, a key protein linked to Alzheimer's disease. While it's worrying to think pollution particles can enter the brain, it's unclear what role, if any, these particles really have in the development of the disease. The people studied did not have Alzheimer's disease, although some of the eight people from the UK had a neurodegenerative disease. The researchers have called for more work to be done to establish whether or not magnetite particles from air pollution play a role in causing Alzheimer's disease. Independent experts have reacted with caution, saying this is as yet unknown. Air pollution levels have fallen significantly in the UK in the last 40 years, but there has not been a corresponding fall in Alzheimer's cases, possibly making the link between the two harder to determine. Where did the story come from? The study was carried out by researchers from the University of Lancaster, the University of Oxford, the University of Glasgow, the University of Manchester, the University of Montana and Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico. It was funded by Alzheimer's Research UK, the Alzheimer's Society and the Medical Research Council. The study was published in the peer-reviewed Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences journal. The UK media covered the study responsibly for the most part, making it clear that we don't know for sure whether these particles are a cause of Alzheimer's, and quoting experts unconnected with the study to balance the views of the researchers. What kind of research was this? This experimental laboratory study analysed brain tissue samples using four types of particle analysis processes. This type of study can show that these specific particles are present in the brains of the people studied, but nothing else. It can't tell us whether these particles are found in everyone's brains or just in the brains of people who live in polluted areas, or whether they are more common in people with Alzheimer's disease. What did the research involve? Researchers took samples of brain tissue from 29 people from Mexico City aged 3 to 85 years, and eight people from Manchester in the UK aged 62 to 92 years. They analysed the samples using four different scanning and analysis procedures to examine the minerals, shape and composition of nanoparticles found in the frontal cortex of the brains. The researchers looked at the number and size of the particles. They also compared the qualities of the particles found with previously identified naturally occurring magnetite particles, and also with particles found in air samples taken at roadsides in Lancaster. What were the basic results? The researchers found all the brain samples contained "abundant" magnetite particles "that match precisely the high-temperature magnetite nanospheres formed by combustion and/or friction-derived heating, which are prolific in urban, airborne particulate matter". The concentrations were mainly highest among older people, although some of the samples taken from much younger Mexico City residents were also very high. Mexico City is known to have high levels of air pollution. The researchers say they found two types of particles: the jagged types thought to form naturally, and the spherical, smooth type consistent with particles produced by air pollution. These rounded forms also varied in size much more than the smaller naturally occurring variety. How did the researchers interpret the results? The researchers say their results may explain previous research, which found spherical particles of magnetite in the plaques and tangles of protein in brain tissue from people with Alzheimer's disease. They also point to previous research from Taiwan, which found people living in areas with higher air pollution were more likely to get Alzheimer's disease. They say theoretically these particles could get from air into the brain via the olfactory nerve, which carries information about smell from the nose to the brain. "Because of their combination of ultrafine size, specific brain toxicity, and ubiquity within airborne particulate matter, pollution-derived magnetite nanoparticles might require consideration as a possible Alzheimer's disease risk factor," they conclude. Conclusion Air pollution is known to be hazardous for human health as a cause of heart and lung disease. This study suggests microscopic particles found in pollution may also enter the brain. While that's a worrying thought, we don't know yet what effect that could have. The study is quite limited in what it tells us. We know the researchers found particles of magnetite in all the brain samples studied, but as there was no control group – for example, people without neurodegenerative disease in the UK, or people from a less polluted part of Mexico – we don't know the significance of the finding. And we don't know whether brains of people with Alzheimer's disease are more or less likely to contain magnetite particles than any other brains. It's important that scientists investigate these findings further to answer some of these questions. But it doesn't mean the rest of us need to panic. Avoiding pollution is sensible for health reasons if you can manage it – for example, by walking away from the edge of a busy road, or cycling through back streets – but it's not always possible. Although nothing guarantees that you won't develop Alzheimer's disease,
  15. 1. By looking at this picture you can say that the players are tired of playing and one of them is resting on the other. Also you can say that the resting one has given up the game by doing hands-up. This is the tackling moment for both the players while chasing the ball and scoring it. Scoring a goal is probably the happiest moment of players life and so is the winning that game in which he has scored the goal. The players have different absurd ways to celebrate their goals. Here is one of them, in which you can see the expressions of the players while they are doing their weirdest thing to celebrate the goal. 8. In this picture you can see the most awkward thing happening between the two players of Manchester United. Paul Scholes is kissing Neville when he scores the incredibly awesome win against Manchester City. This is one of the most ridiculously funny and weird moment in the history of football. 7. I wonder what happens when the players see their weird pictures after the game. In this picture I guess the player was chasing the ball and ends up in this embarrassing position. While the other one is loving this unpleasant position so he is kind of relaxing and enjoying this moment. 6. In the history of football this is the most repeated moment. Opponent team players rips off the knickers of the other players just to save goals. This picture also shows the same meaning of doing this tricky action. I might say its for their defence but audience find it way more funnier than the defence. This action can result in many different ways if you think worst of it. 5. Now this kiss is quite a surprise for the audience and also for those two players. It’s kind of cute to enact this gesture in order to entertain audience other than the game. These kind of kissing are happened usually yet so sudden and people aren’t expecting these kind of actions. Same is the case with this picture, but it seems that they are restoring their friendly relation while playing game with an unharmful gesture. 4. Not only the game but also the game practice is also kind of funny. See the pose the most famous soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo, he has made it while practising for the game. Many different poses are unintentionally made when players are playing the game in the ground. See this pose, it feels like that the player is showering his blessings to Lionel Messi and also performing his Ballerina step while playing football. These kind of photos are undoubtedly percepted in many different ways knowing the fact that those players are not even aware of their weirdest actions which are later listed in the history. 3. This picture depicts the lust of winning the game no matter what it demands to do. If it’s even needed to climb up on the back of the opponent to save the goal, they will surely perform such actions for their defence. Another strange position which slightly depicts that the players are trying to dance while playing the game. They find it more interesting to pose as dancers and also as football players in the ground. Many football lovers will cherish these absurd moments of their favourite players afterwards. 2. No doubt this is the most cranky position in which players can be tackled in the ground while playing. Although they both were after the football but ended up in this freakish position which might be hurting. Another bizarre position of the players. Every football lover will surely know the cranky ways of Zidane to kick the ball if not then here is the one. I am sure that this kick will hurt the opponent more than the ball. 1. Another famous football player Wayne Rooney is kind of paying regards to the ground after scoring a goal. He bow downs on the ground to celebrate his goal, which was clearly not the plan of celebration. Football is recognized as the most po[CENSORED]r game with immense number of audience, and these funny moments have taken the game to another level. 16. 19. World leaders have reacted with anger after North Korea carried out its fifth and reportedly biggest nuclear test. The South accused the North's leader Kim Jong-un of "maniacal recklessness". China "firmly opposed" the test, Japan "protested adamantly" and the US warned of "serious consequences" including "new sanctions". The UN Security Council will meet later behind closed doors to discuss the issue. Such nuclear tests are banned by the UN but this is Pyongyang's second in 2016. Kim Jong-un's rhetoric has also become increasingly aggressive, analysts say. ADVERTISEMENT North Korea nuclear test: Is it important? What to look for in North Korea's fifth nuclear test Stages of an underground nuclear test What did N Korea learn from its previous tests? Could North Korea carry out a nuclear attack? Ri Chun-hee - the most famous woman in North Korea The isolated communist nation has been hit by five sets of UN sanctions since its first test in 2006. Talks involving world and regional powers have failed to rein in the North's nuclear programme. In its statement announcing the underground test, North Korea expressed anger at the "racket of threat and sanctions... kicked up by the US-led hostile forces" to deny a "sovereign state's exercise of the right to self-defence". The test came on the country's National Day, which celebrates the founding of the current regime and which is often used as a show of military strength. Map showing the locations and the magnitude of the seismic events triggered by North Korea's nuclear tests Technically, the North said the test was aimed at further developing the miniaturisation of nuclear warheads so they could be mounted on ballistic missiles. In its statement the North said it could now produce "at will, and as many as it wants, a variety of smaller, lighter and diversified nuclear warheads of higher strike power". In recent months, the North has conducted a series of ballistic missile launches and has in the past often stated its aim of hitting US targets. The North has previously made claims on "miniaturised" nuclear warheads but they have never been independently confirmed. What now? Analysis by Steve Evans, BBC News, Seoul What North Korea's opponents can actually do is problematic. After the fourth test in January, China agreed to impose tougher UN sanctions. Further and even tougher sanctions are still possible, like blocking the export of fuel oil to North Korea. That would be a drastic step which might halt the economy and cause serious suffering to ordinary people. China's bottom line is that it does not want the collapse of the regime in Pyongyang if that leads to a chaotic power vacuum, possibly filled by the US and its allies. North Korea has also been angered by a US and South Korean plan to install an anti-missile defence system in the South and by the allies' massive annual joint military exercises, which are still taking place. The North's recent actions have sorely tested its only ally, China. It condemned January's test and repeated that on Friday after the latest. China's foreign ministry said it would lodge a diplomatic protest and urged North Korea to avoid further action that would worsen the situation. Reaction from elsewhere was more harsh: United States - President Barack Obama condemned the test saying he had agreed with South Korea and Japan to work with the UN Security Council "to vigorously implement existing measures imposed in previous resolutions, and to take additional significant steps, including new sanctions" Japan - North Korea is an "outlaw nation in the neighbourhood" South Korea - "Such provocation will further accelerate its path to self-destruction" Russia - "We insist that the North Korean side stop its dangerous escapades and unconditionally implement all resolutions of the United Nations Security Council" The International Atomic Energy Agency - a "deeply troubling and regrettable act" that is "in complete disregard of the repeated demands of the international community" The latest test was announced on state TV hours after a 5.3 magnitude tremor was detected near the Punggye-ri underground nuclear site. Estimates of the explosive yield of the latest blast have varied. South Korea's military said it was about 10 kilotonnes, enough to make it the North's "strongest nuclear test ever". Other experts say initial indications suggest 20 kilotonnes or more. The bomb dropped by the US on Hiroshima in 1945 had a yield of about 15
  20. = Football History - First Football Story Dr Maria Hayward, an expert at Southampton University, has discovered that Henry VIII - the Tudor King who had six wives, owned a pair of football boots. These shoes, costing four shillings [approximately £100 in today's money] were made by his personal shoemaker, Cornelius Johnson, in 1525. Dr Hayward found them in a list of the king's clothes made when he died in 1547. Sadly we don't know what the football boots looked like so we cannot compare them with those worn by David Beckham or Ronaldo. However, it is not likely they were anything like the boots worn today. Historians think they were probably heavier than the normal shoes of the time and made of especially strong leather. They needed to be strong because football during the 16th century, when Henry VIII was king, was a very tough game. 'Football in Tudor times was a very vicious game, with no teams and no rules, so it was not a game for gentlemen, 'comments Dr Hayward. According to a Tudor writer called Sir Thomas Elyot, it was a game of 'beastly fury and extreme violence'. It is known that it was especially po[CENSORED]r on Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Day) and Henry VIII even tried to ban the game because it so often led to riots and violence. Behaviour generally, it appears, has improved over the ages!Peter Crouch - Bullet header Peter Crouch Causes Slump of Wide-screen T.V. Sales of Wide Screen T.V. plummet. The reason England fans realize that they cannot see all of Peter Crouch on the 1333 x 768 pixel models. The answer is the revolutionary 1333 x 3413 pixel model that Will and Guy are seeking to franchise. Peter Crouch first came to Will's attention playing for his local team Portsmouth. As you may know Crouch at 6' 7'' is the tallest footballer playing in the top flight. We predict that his aerial domination will play a crucial part in England winning World Cup 2010 in South Africa. Goran Granic - Looses His Bite A Croatian football star says his team are losing matches because he can no longer commit fouls since finding God. Hajduk Split defender Goran Granic has come in for a storm of criticism for abandoning his trademark hard tackles on opponents. But Granic has now revealed his Catholicism is behind his softer style of play. He told daily newspaper Slobodna Dalmacija, 'I'm so devoted to God now that I have started to avoid committing fouls during matches. God has created football for fun and relaxation. He would not like players to commit harsh fouls.' He added, 'I could probably have saved some key goals during the season, including in the Champions League qualifying games, if I had committed fouls to stop players scoring.' Hajduk Split are reigning Croatian champions but this season they failed to qualify for the Champions League and are currently fifth in the Croatian league.
  23. Two judges have been asked to leave a panel that picks the Nobel prize for medicine in a scandal surrounding a disgraced Italian transplant surgeon. The decision to drop Harriet Wallberg and Anders Hamsten came after the Swedish government sacked the entire board of the prestigious Karolinska Institute, where the scientist worked. Paolo Macchiarini was seen as a leading specialist on windpipe transplants. But two of his patients died and he was accused of falsifying his work record. Dr Macchiarini denies all the charges against him. The two judges who lost their positions on the Nobel panel have both served as heads of the Karolinska Institute, and were among several individuals suspected of ignoring warnings about the Italian windpipe scientist. The case has come as a severe blow to the institute. In a report on the case on Monday, a former Swedish judge said he had "never seen such negative references" and questioned why the surgeon had been initially hired and then had his contract extended. 'Scandal is the right word' "Confidence in the two principals is so seriously damaged that it has been exhausted," assembly secretary Thomas Perlmann told Sweden's TT news agency. "The damage is so great, and of such a character, that we will ask them to resign from the Nobel Assembly." The 50-member Nobel panel is due to announce the winner of the annual prize next month. "Scandal is the right word," higher education minister Helene Hellmark Knutsson said on Monday. "People have been harmed because of the actions of the Karolinska Institute and also the Karolinska University Hospital." Paolo Macchiarini was hired in 2010, two years after he was part of a team that carried out the first windpipe transplant partly made of the patient's stem cells. In 2011 he was hailed for leading a team that carried out the first synthetic organ transplant. But he lost his job earlier this year after a TV documentary by Swedish broadcaster SVT showed footage of operations he carried out in Russia which the Karolinska Institute itself described as "truly alarming". Prosecutors in Sweden said in June they were investigating the stem cell surgeon on suspicion of two cases of involuntary manslaughter at Swedish hospitals in 2011 and 2012. Other reports have alleged that he gave false information on his resume.
  24. Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has said he regrets calling his US counterpart Barack Obama the "son of a whore". His controversial comments have led to diplomatic consequences with the US president cancelling a scheduled meeting with Mr Duterte. But the Philippine leader, who has insulted prominent figures before, is not the only one guilty of offending world leaders. From a "sadistic nurse" to "the devil" himself, here are some of the more memorable comments made by or about those in positions of power. The then Syrian defence minister General Mustafa Tlass, known for his colourful language, triggered a diplomatic row with the Palestinian Authority when he described its leader Yasser Arafat as the "son of 60,000 whores". Gen Tlass, who launched the outspoken attack on Mr Arafat in a speech in 1999, said: "You should have told the White House that Jerusalem is the capital of the future Palestinian state but instead you stayed as quiet as a mouse and did not dare say a single word in favour of Palestine or Jerusalem." His comments led to demonstrations in Gaza with thousands of Palestinians protesting at the personal attack on their leader. In a dramatic speech to the UN in September 2006, the then president of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, famously described his US counterpart George W Bush as the "devil". "The Devil is right at home. The devil, the devil himself, is right in the house. "And the devil came here yesterday. Yesterday the devil came here. Right here. And it smells of sulphur still today. "Yesterday, ladies and gentlemen, from this rostrum, the president of the United States, the gentleman to whom I refer as the devil, came here, talking as if he owned the world. Truly. As the owner of the world." On the same podium in 2009, Mr Chavez cautiously welcomed Mr Obama's new administration. Looking around, he said: "It doesn't smell of sulphur any more. No, it smells of something else. It smells of hope, and you have to have hope in your heart." When a sentence begins with the words "I don't want to be rude", you should probably prepare to be offended. Nigel Farage, leader of the UK Independence Party (UKIP) at the time of his speech to MEPs in the European parliament, launched into a personal attack on Herman Van Rompuy that lasted several minutes. He said the president of the European Council had "the charisma of a damp rag". He compared the former Belgian prime minister to a "low-grade bank clerk" and said he came from a "non-country". The attack, which stunned the chamber, came as Mr Van Rompuy made his maiden appearance in parliament in Brussels.
