David Warner's colourful Test career is at an end By Phil Mercer At the Sydney Cricket Ground Combative, prolific, and polarising. David Warner is without doubt one of Australia's most controversial and dogged cricketers, who is playing in his 112th and final Test against Pakistan in Sydney. In 2018, he was suspended from international competition for a year by Cricket Australia, the governing body, over his involvement in the sandpapergate ball-tampering scandal in South Africa with teammates Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft. Warner was stripped of the Test team's vice-captaincy and banned from leadership roles for life. It was a sporting wildfire that seared a nation. Some Australian fans have never forgiven him, but others believe the aggressive left-handed batsman has served his time and has atoned. "People get into him for cheating. The fact is that a lot of guys have done it. A ban to anyone in the prime of their career is massive and what he's done since he's been back is sensational," former Australian bowler Merv Hughes told the BBC at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).He's a good fella. He has been very good for a very long time." Warner has always been in the headlines for both his triumphs and troubles. He made history on his international debut in 2009, becoming the first man to represent his country without playing a single match in the Sheffield Shield, the national state-based league. Four years later, he was sanctioned for punching England's Joe Root in an altercation at a bar in Birmingham. "The junkyard dog I used to call him," said Hughes. "He'd sit behind the fence and bark a lot and if you jumped the fence he'd rip your leg off." His powerful batting has resembled that of a baseball slugger, allowing his career to flourish across three formats of the game. He plans to continue to play in global T20 competitions, but as he says goodbye to Test cricket and one-day internationals, Warner's role in the ball tampering saga still lingers.Bernadette Hicks has mixed feelings "My opinion of him did go down significantly during that time and I have to be honest and say it hasn't come back to what it was," explained Bernadette Hicks, who'd travelled from the Blue Mountains west of Sydney for Warner's farewell Test. "He is a very polarising character but regardless of what you think of him, his cricket is good. He's had his ups and downs, but he's always come back." Other fans told the BBC that they, too, can't forgive or forget Warner's involvement in the ball tampering affair at Newlands in Cape Town in March 2018. "I didn't watch [cricket] for two years. It was pretty painful at the time... but I came back to the fold after a little while," said fan Terry Dumbleton from Sydney. "I've almost forgiven him. I don't think he should have got back in the team but he is a great cricketer." Johnson questions 'hero's send-off' for Warner Australia cricket scandal stings an incredul ous nationWarner apologising in tears for his role in the 2018 ball-tampering scandal The 37-year-old was simply too good to cast aside when his ban ended though; at its best his batting was explosive, his slip-catching unwavering and his fielding flawless. He has no clear-cut successor, although Cameron Bancroft, another rehabilitated member of the Sandpaper Three, has been in good form. "Cam's done well. He's a lovely guy, came to Durham for a couple of years. The way he's been playing this year he probably deserves the chance," said Sir Ian Botham, who is on commentating duties at the SCG. The England legend told the BBC that David Warner, along with Bancroft and Steve Smith, who has reclaimed his place in the Test team, deserve second chances. "At the end of the day, do the crime, (he) did the time and on you move. You've got to be pretty special to come back from that but then again, so is Steve Smith. They've done their time. Get on with it." Warner appears unapologetic for his part in a seismic event that rattled Australian cricket. He told ESPNcricinfo that: "reflecting back on that whole period, my whole career, I have got no regrets because you are going to have a lot of hurdles you are going to have to jump. But you have to move forward and I have done that with dignity…making sure that I gained the respect back but making sure I am putting Australian cricket first."Jack Sparrow says Warner's absence will be felt So, is there finally redemption for David Warner? Typically, opinion is split. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation's Jim Maxwell, the king of the cricket commentators, believes the batsman remains burdened by the scandal. "I think it lives with him, unfortunately," he told the BBC. "But hopefully [England fans] will remember him as a wonderful competitor, someone they love to hate. David Warner has always been a combative figure, somewhat controversial but perhaps a bit more maligned than he should be." But to his die-hard admirers, Warner's sins of the past have been washed away. "He's Australia's most prolific opener. He's aggressive, passionate, reformed and an icon," said Jack Sparrow, a supporter who had travelled 2,000kms (1,243 miles) from Townsville in Queensland for the SCG Test. "He's paid his dues and he'd bounced back well." "I think we're really going to miss him.".. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-67870596

Google continues working on the integration of its Bard chatbot with the Assistant, which will offer a renewed user experience by introducing a shortcut to this tool with new artificial intelligence (AI) functions in Discover, on the Google Search screen . Bard is a generative AI tool that Google introduced in February last year and is based on the experimental LaMDA language model. This conversational 'bot' uses this technology to interact with users and improve their productivity. In recent months, the technology firm has been working on the integration of Bard with its Assistant with the aim that it can soon offer an experience powered by AI, a version that can be combined with the classic format, as announced ago a few weeks Android Police. The new AI version, Assistant with Bard , is designed to completely replace the Assistant experience that currently exists on compatible Android devices, as verified by 9to5Google, with contributions from contributor Dylan Roussel. This means that you can access this tool in the same way as when you want to use the Assistant, that is, either by long pressing the power button or by saying 'Ok, Google' to activate it .When this pop-up window opens, users will be able to enter text by voice or use the keyboard, although the Assistant will also be able to recognize images, either with photographs taken with the camera or stored on the smartphone. On the other hand, this medium has pointed out that the technology firm plans to introduce this Assistant experience with Bard on the Discover page of the Google Search application, with a switch located at the top, which will allow you to choose between the standard search and the one powered by AI. It has also been found that it will be possible to enable a pop-up window to ask questions or specify commands directed to the Google Assistant with Bard, a format that was noted a few months ago in initial previews of this tool.At the moment it is unknown when Google plans to launch this renewed tool, although it has been confirmed that with its implementation the Search Engine will issue a notification encouraging users to update its assistant to implement the 'chatbot' functions. . https://www.europapress.es/portaltic/software/noticia-bard-asistente-tendra-acceso-directo-pantalla-descubre-buscador-google-20240103160509.html

Fatty the cat found her special place at the garden centre when she was just a kitten By Helen Burchell BBC News, Cambridgeshire A garden centre and its comfortable patio furniture have become a second home for two cats. Fatty has been visiting Scotsdales in Horningsea, near Cambridge, for about 15 years and was recently joined by her "brother" George, a handsome tabby. While both share the same loving owners in the village, they are now "like staff members" at the garden centre. However, staff have a nightly ritual of finding and putting them out at closing time, as they set off the store alarms. Fatty - a fluffy black and white moggy - has been visiting the garden centre since she was a kitten, and is a favourite with both staff and regular customers.George, an equally fluffy tabby, is a relative newcomer, and at about two years of age has only one year's experience of perusing the store.Fatty loves to sit among the flowers Broadcaster and cat expert Roger Tabor told the BBC that cats who sought out other people and enjoyed attention from regular contact with strangers were "in the great minority". Fatty and George subscribe to this theory, apparently unfazed by hundreds of customers filing past them, many with dogs - and seem intent on amusing themselves, staff and customers for many years to come. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-cambridgeshire-67686351

Watch: First pictures of plane on fire on Tokyo runway By Kelly Ng and Simon Fraser in Singapore and London A Japan Airlines plane burst into flames after a collision with a smaller coastguard aircraft on the runway at Tokyo's Haneda airport. All 379 passengers and crew on board were evacuated, but five of the six crew on the coastguard plane died, police said. The captain was injured. Flames engulfed the airliner after it landed, skidding on the blazing runway. Fire crews spent hours dousing the blaze. The airliner came from Sapporo on the northern island of Hokkaido. Air safety experts have praised the crew for safely evacuating all the passengers. All four of Haneda's runways were closed after the incident, disrupting travel plans for thousands of passengers.Japan Airlines Flight 516 had departed from Sapporo's New Chitose airport at 16:00 local time (07:00 GMT) and landed at Haneda shortly before 18:00. Video showed it bursting into flames as it sped down the runway after landing. "I felt a boom like we had hit something and jerked upward the moment we landed," one passenger told Kyodo news agency. "I saw sparks outside the window and the cabin filled with gas and smoke." Passengers escaped via an evacuation slide and ran across the tarmac to safety, footage and photos showed. Officials said the flight crew had reported no problems before landing. Exchanges with flight controllers are under investigation. What caused the collision remains unclear. The coastguard said an investigation was under way to establish how and at what time the two aircraft came into contact with each other. Five dead on coastguard plane after Tokyo crash - follow live Dramatic videos show how plane is overcome by fire at Haneda airport A Japan Airlines statement said flight JL516 had been "involved in a collision with a Japan coastguard aircraft during its landing at Haneda Airport, resulting in a fire on the runway". "We want to assure you that all passengers and crew on our flight were safely evacuated. Our thoughts and prayers are with the deceased members of the Japan coastguard." The coastguard aircraft - a De Havilland Dash 8 turboprop - was heading to help with rescue and relief efforts following Monday's earthquake in Ishikawa. It was one of four planes on a mission to the quake site. TV footage showed several fire trucks at the scene as smoke and flames billowed from the Airbus. Footage from inside the aircraft showed passengers surrounded by thick smoke. The passenger plane effectively burnt down to its fuselage. One woman posted a picture of a huge crowd watching the scene unfold. "I was on board. I'm safe. Thank goodness," she wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. But within hours of the blaze, police in Tokyo had confirmed reports that the five coastguard crew members had died and said the pilot was severely injured.Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said the authorities were trying to make sure the accident did not impede deliveries of earthquake relief supplies. "This is a great regret as the crew members performed their duties with a strong sense of mission and responsibility for the victims of the disaster area," he said. At least 14 of the passengers and crew who were taken off the Japan Airlines flight suffered minor injuries, according to Japanese public broadcaster NHK, citing fire officials. Flights at Haneda - one of two international airports serving Japan's capital - were grounded and many diverted to other airports in Japan while emergency services tackled the fire. All but one runway - where the collision took place - opened later on Tuesday evening, the transport ministry said. It is the first major accident involving an A350, one of a new breed of aircraft built largely of advanced materials such as carbon fibre-reinforced plastic. Airbus is sending a team of specialists to assist in the investigation in Japan. There was also praise for the efforts of the Japan Airline crew and pilots. "Their focus is on safety. They are the last people to evacuate the airplane and on face value, it looks like they have done an incredible job," Prof Graham Braithwaite, director of transport systems at Cranfield University in the UK, told the BBC... https://www.bbc.com/news/world-67862011

Xiaomi has discarded the POCO HyperOS and Redmi HyperOS development projects to unify the operating system of their brands under Xiaomi's HyperOS, in order to simplify software updates for these devices. The company presented HyperOS at the end of last October, when it commented that this operating system, based on Linux, was designed to bring coherence to the Internet of Things (IoT) landscape, by unifying all the devices in the ecosystem in one only 'software'.This means that the Chinese firm will use its operating system on all its devices, instead of creating a specific and different customization layer for each of its product lines, which will also simplify software updates for these terminals. It is worth mentioning that a few days ago the firm announced its plans to launch HyperOS on its terminals, indicating that it will deploy this OS during the first quarter of the year in the Xiaomi 13, Redmi Note 12 and 12S family, as well as in the Xiaomi Pad 6 tablet. POCO F5 owners will also be the first to experience Xiaomi HyperOS. https://www.europapress.es/portaltic/software/noticia-xiaomi-descarta-desarrollo-sistemas-operativos-independientes-redmi-poco-unificarlos-hyperos-20231227112144.html

AMD might be preparing new products based on its Radeon RX 7000 "RDNA 3" GPUs under its Navi 3X lineup as suggested by a shipping manifesto with several "Cuarzo" products. AMD Mentions It Navi 3X GPU Lineup With Multiple "Cuarzo" Codenames, Adds Unknown Navi 32 "RDNA 3" Models As Well Which Point To Potential Launches AMD might be switching from fish codenames to crystalline rocks, as a shipping label, disclosed by po[CENSORED]r hardware leaker Harukaze5179, reveals. The shipping manifesto suggests that AMD uses a new "Cuarzo" codename for its existing Navi 3X GPUs. This label was reportedly obtained from the company's Canadian HQ when the mentioned SKUs were shipped to the firm's labs globallyNow the naming convention used by AMD is "Cuarzo", a Spanish word, that refers to the element "Quartz" in English. The new naming is divided into three categories: Cuarzo Rojo, Cuarzo Verde, and Cuarzo Azul, translating to Red Quartz, Green Quartz, and Blue Quartz respectively. We have no idea why AMD decided to choose such names for its Navi SKUs, but given the company's previous track records, it isn't a surprising one, in fact, far better than "Pink Sardine" or "Hotpink Bonefish".Unfortunately, the SKUs mentioned within the shipping label don't indicate any new release in development. Still, an assumption made by Videocardz states that Team Red might decide to integrate the Navi 32 GPU package into mobile variants, as hinted by the "board D716" and "XEM" variants listings, but that is just a rumor for now. We don't have any solid evidence in the form of leaks to back this but it will fill up the huge gap between the Navi 33 and Navi 31 mobile SKUs. Samsung plans to introduce a new tool that allows users to set up to three charging levels to protect the battery of their devices, which can be adapted to user needs. The company has implemented this functionality in the latest update of the customization layer they use on their devices, One UI 6.1, based on Android 14, as 9to5Google has seen. This portal has indicated that this tool, available in the Settings section, allows you to establish three levels of battery protection, which differ between basic, adaptive and maximum protection.Adaptive protection, for its part, pauses fast charging at 80 percent and, from that point, slowly charges the remaining section until it is 100 percent complete. In this sense, this medium has recalled that Google Pixel 'smartphones' offer similar functionality and that this option is ideal for those people who charge their mobile phones at night, since sleep time is estimated based on habits. of mobile phone use. Finally, maximum protection again limits charging to 80 percent and will not resume unless your battery level drops below that value. In this way, the greatest protection is provided for the device's battery, although it will never reach percentages higher than that. Finally, 9to5Google has recalled that this adaptive loading configuration will arrive with the deployment of said One UI 6.1 update, which is scheduled for release in January 2024... https://www.europapress.es/portaltic/software/noticia-samsung-planea-introducir-funcion-proteger-bateria-dispositivos-carga-20231228104538.html

Earlier this year, we got our first taste of the latest PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSDs, offering up to 10,000 MB/s read and write capabilities. These drives were first but we knew that faster drives would be entering the market sooner or later as the technology matured. Furthermore, Gen5 platforms are more accessible to a wider range of audiences with the introduction of mainstream AMD & Intel motherboards. While offering 10 GB/s speeds as a start, SSD manufacturers have quickly started rolling out faster drives by optimizing thermal designs and utilizing enhanced NAND solutions. T-Force is beginning its very own Gen5 journey with the Cardea Z540 series which is designed to offer the best speeds possible given the current limitations of NAND flash. For today's review, we will be taking a look at the Team Group T-Force CARDEA Z540 2 TB SSD which is equipped with Phison's E26 controller and is aiming at the high-end storage segment. This SSD comes at a retail price of $259.99 US which is around where you'd expect 2 TB Gen5 SSD drives to fall. Team Group T-Force CARDEA Z540 2 TB PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSDThe Team Group T-Force CARDEA Z540 is part of the CARDEA Z5 lineup. The CARDEA family has been around for many years now and we have looked at many products within the lineup from Gen3 to Gen4 SSDs. Now, we are looking at the Gen5 series which is branded under the "Z5" SSD series. The Team Group T-Force CARDEA Z5 SSDs are based on the NVMe SSD form factor and feature the latest Micron 232-layer TLC NAND flash which offers larger capacities of up to 2 TB, twice the performance of Gen4 drives, & full compliance with Microsoft's DirectStorage API. The T-Force CARDEA Z540 SSDs are based on the high-end Phison E26 SSD controller which is in use by some of the fastest Gen5 drives at the moment. T-Force has pushed the NAND speeds from 1600 MT/s to 2000 MT/s, allowing for higher read and write capabilities. We can expect further optimizations to these speeds in future Gen5 drives from T-Force. https://wccftech.com/review/team-group-t-force-cardea-z540-2-tb-pcie-5-0-nvme-ssd-review-graphene-cooled-for-259/

StreetVet volunteers say the pets of homeless owners are often very well cared for A charity is offering care and support to the four-legged friends of a city's rough sleeping community. Volunteers with StreetVet provide medical check-ups, treatment and outreach care in Cambridge city centre every week. Clinicians say the pets they see are often as well or better cared-for than those seen in general practice. One rough sleeper told the BBC he could not have afforded his dog's care without the help of charity. The team meets on Thursday nights close to the city's Grafton shopping centre and also reach out to local homeless shelters.rVolunteer Laura George says the owners she meets always want the best for their pets Volunteer Laura George, a registered veterinary nurse, said she was always struck by the "love and devotion" of owners. She said: "The thing that sticks with me most is just how kind all of the owners are, how much they love their pets, that is undeniable. "You can see how much they care for them and how much they just want to do the best they can for them. "And it comes through in spades," she added... https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-cambridgeshire-67808077

Fighting on the Israeli-Lebanese border earlier this week By James Gregory BBC News Israel will act to remove Hezbollah from the border with Lebanon if the militia group's attacks continue, an Israeli minister has warned. Benny Gantz said the Israeli military would intervene if militants do not stop firing on northern Israel. Time for a diplomatic solution was running out, he added. Meanwhile, the head of the Israel Defense Forces said troops were in "very high readiness" for more fighting in the north. "Our first task is to restore security and the sense of security to the residents in the north, and this will take time," Chief of the General Staff Lt Gen Herzi Halevi said, after conducting a "situational assessment".Cross-border exchanges of fire have been escalating since Hamas's 7 October attacks on Israel. On Wednesday, Hezbollah launched its highest number of cross-border attacks in a day since 8 October, security sources told Reuters. It has led to concerns the conflict in Gaza could become wider across the region. "The situation on Israel's northern border demands change," Mr Gantz told a news conference on Wednesday night. "The stopwatch for a diplomatic solution is running out. If the world and the Lebanese government don't act in order to prevent the firing on Israel's northern residents, and to distance Hezbollah from the border, the IDF will do it." But the Lebanese ambassador in the UK, Rami Mortada, said his country was on the receiving end of attacks and "the party that should hold back is Israel". "We are not interested in escalation - all sides need to de-escalate," he told the BBC World Service's Newshour programme. Earlier this month, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on a visit to troops near the border that Israel would "single-handedly turn Beirut and South Lebanon, not far from here, into Gaza and Khan Yunis" if Hezbollah started an all-out war. Hezbollah - a Shia Muslim organisation - is designated a terrorist organisation by Western states, Israel, Gulf Arab countries and the Arab League. Funded by Iran, it is one of the most heavily-armed, non-state military forces in the world. In 2006, a full-blown war between Hezbollah and Israel was triggered when Hezbollah carried out a deadly cross-border raid, with Israeli troops invading southern Lebanon. At the border, there has been an increase in rocket fire and the use of weaponised drones by Hezbollah this week, with Israeli war planes quick to respond. On Thursday, Israeli forces said they intercepted a drone crossing into their territory from Lebanon. And on Wednesday, state media in Lebanon reported that a Hezbollah fighter and two of his relatives had been killed in an Israeli air strike. The attack reportedly hit a house in Bint Jbeil, a town about 2km (1.2 miles) from the border with Israel. A Hezbollah statement said one of the victims, Ibrahim Bazzi, was an Australian citizen visiting his family. More than 100 people have been killed in Lebanon since October - most of them Hezbollah fighters but civilians, including three journalists, are also among the dead. On the Israeli side, at least four civilians and nine soldiers are known to have died on the Lebanon border since hostilities began. Thousands of civilians living in dozens of communities in the area have been evacuated by the army. Meanwhile, Unifil - the UN peacekeeping force that has operated in southern Lebanon since 1978 - called on Lebanese authorities to investigate after one of its troops was wounded in the country's south. Unifil said a patrol was attacked "by a group of young men" in Taybeh, with a vehicle also damaged. What is Hezbollah and will it go to war with Israel? Hezbollah's leadership praised the unprecedented cross-border attack launched by Hamas gunmen on southern Israel on 7 October, in which at least 1,200 people were killed - most of them civilians - and about 240 others were taken hostage. More than 21,100 people have been killed by Israeli forces in Gaza - mostly children and women - during 11 weeks of fighting, according to the Hamas-run health ministry. Thousands of Palestinian families in Gaza are trying to find shelter as Israel broadens its ground offensive across the centre and south of the territory... https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-67831478

LMicrosoft has provided a tool that helps solve the problem of ghost installations of the HP Smart application and the appearance of HP printer data on computers with Windows 10 and 11 where there are no linked computers from this technology firm. At the beginning of the month, some Windows users detected that the HP Smart application had been automatically installed on their computers , which configures and checks the status of this American manufacturer's printers. This application generally comes installed on HP computers and can be downloaded for free on other brands' computers through the Microsoft Store, iOS App Store, and Android Google Play. However, the installations of said 'app' were happening on computers that were not from HP nor did they have a printer of this brand installed. As detailed by Microsoft , the bug that caused it changed the printer names and icons to show information about the LaserJet M101-M106 model and installed said 'app' automatically. The cause of the failure has not been identified, but Microsoft has provided a tool to solve it, which restores the printer information and its icon and eliminates the HP Smart application if it detects that there are no hardware or drivers related to it installed on the computer. https://www.europapress.es/portaltic/software/noticia-microsoft-facilita-herramienta-solucionar-instalacion-fantasma-impresoras-hp-windows-20231220112250.html

It has been estimated the cost of a 2nm wafer can go up by 50% from 3nm, attributed to the complexities involved in the manufacturing processes and the utilization of sophisticated equipment within the semiconductor production. Utilization of Next-Gen EUV Lithography Process Along With High R&D Costs Will Make 2nm Process An Expensive One Based on a report by International Business Strategies (via Nikkei), it is predicted that 2nm wafer pricing could reach up to US$30,000 and the process they have quoted is TSMC's N2, which is around a 50% bump from a 3nm (TSMC N3) wafer price, which is around USD$20,000.The huge price increase is attributed to the utilization of advanced next-gen EUV lithography equipment along with costs associated with fab development for 2nm production. The research firm reports that the cost to build a 2nm facility with a 50,000-wafer monthly output could reach up to US$28 billion, while a 3nm plant with the same output would cost around US$20 billion. This means that the industry adoption of the 2nm process could translate into a "negative" economic effect on consumer products, meaning that we could see a considerable price increase as well. It was reported previously that Samsung has offered a discount on its 2nm pricing to attract client interest, hence the pricing of a 2nm wafer could vary depending on how the process turns out, in terms of yield rates and the industry's adoption. Companies like Apple, which tend to utilize leading fabrication processes, will see a drastic increase in next-gen products, given that the current trend of semiconductor economics persists. In terms of the status of 2nm production, it is reported that industry giants such as Samsung and TSMC will commence mass production of their 2nm technology sometime in 2025. It is expected that with the introduction of 2nm nodes as a whole, the industry will see a rise in competition, since firms like Samsung Foundry, Intel, and TSMC are set to introduce their options almost "simultaneously" in the markets, which will make things much more interesting in terms of how each process stands out amongst the eyes of potential customers... https://wccftech.com/2nm-wafer-pricing-50-percent-price-bump-compared-to-3nm/
